Best Easy Setup for 1080p?

Just got the new Canon and it captures video in 1080p H.264 Quicktime files. What is the best Easy Setup option since none match exactly to the captured format? The Apple Intermediate Codec at 720p seems to be the most accurate, is there an upgrade available to natively work with the 1080p files? To avoid excessive rendering, is it better to convert the original files in Quicktime Pro to another format? Final use will be to put on a DVD.

You can't use this camera with FCE without converting the material. Canon tried hard to make a great little video camera, but stupidly, in my view, chose to record at 30fps. Also it's in a H.264 proprietary video format that has to be converted to work smoothly in Final Cut.
You could use the QT pro player to convert it, or import and export from FCE. Not sure well i would handle the frame rate conversion which can be tricky. FCP will do a better job as you can work in ProRes or ProResHQ.

  • Best "Easy Setup" for AVCHD .mts files

I'm on a MacBook Pro in 10.5.8 with FCP 7, all footage is shot by a Canon HF S100 at 1920x1080 60i. Is there a best way to set up the Easy Setup for the AVCHD files?
    I currently have it as:
    Format: (all)
    Rate: (all rates)
    Use: Custom Setup
    Sequence Preset: HDV 1080i60
Capture Preset: HDV Apple ProRes 422
    Device Control: non-controllable device
    Video Playback: none
    Audio Playback: Default.
Is there a better way to do it than this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Yup,
It costs but it's supposed to be very worth it on saved time and trouble.
    http://www.clipwrap.com
    From the website:
    rewraps - doesn't transcode
ClipWrap rewraps the video samples from your existing m2t, mts, m2ts files without re-encoding them. This means blazingly fast convert speeds and no image degradation.
    Transcodes too!
Need your files in ProRes, AIC, DNxHD or DVCProHD? ClipWrap can seamlessly convert your files. Don't worry about frame size changes, gamma shifts, or any of the other problems resulting from mismatched settings - ClipWrap chooses all those based on the source file's format.
    Automatic format detection
ClipWrap speaks your camera's language so you don't have to. It automatically parses the file's format and chooses the proper output format, so there's no hassle trying to determine the proper settings (frame rate, image size, gamma levels, etc).
    Full timecode support
Timecode is recreated in the new QuickTime movie, so you can recapture from tape later if necessary.
    Supports HDV and AVCHD formats
Now you're not limited to specific HDV or AVCHD cameras, you can rest assured your files will be compatible with FCP when it comes time to edit.

  • Easy setup for 1080p 24

i'm shooting 1080p 24 dvcpro hd (panasonic hvx200) and importing the p2 files into my project but it requires constant rendering (orange line) with every little change i make. i have the fastest mac and more than enough ram with a kona card and i still cannot edit because the frame rate is so bad unless i edit. what should i set my sequence settings to? does anyone out there with a similar setup have a simple step-through for me?
    thanks

There isn't an easy setup. But there is a nifty trick to get sequence settings that match your clip settings:
    www.proapptips.com/shane NON-STANDARD CODECS IN FCP
Then you should be set. Let me know if you aren't.

  • What is the best easy setup for d600 nikon. and what is the best export for hd movie, 11 min ?

i'm exporting my movie in mpeg4, 1960X1080, for streaming.
all the movie is going well, but there is some cubes in the sky, and also, some frames jumpes.
I treid few times, but its always the same.
    Thank you,Lena

You should transcode the Nikon clips to Pro Res 422 before you import them to your project. That can be done in Compressor or MPEG Streamclip. Let FCP automatically determine the best sequence settings, based on your first clip.   Export your project as Quick Time Movie, current settings. If you need an MP4 with h.264, MPEG Streamclip can make it for you.

  • What's the best FCP6 easy setup for HD shot on Canon XHA1?

Hi, I'm sorry to ask such a novice question, but I want to make sure I'm starting correctly. Anyone have advice on the best easy setup to use for a project that will be predominantly footage shot in HD at 30P on the Canon XH-A1? It will also include a little bit of HD footage shot through a Canon 5D markii, but I think I understand how to bring those clips in later using log and transfer and the appropriate Canon EOS codec deal.
I'm just still not sure of the difference between HDV, DVCPRO HD, and all those other easy presets that are listed out...
    thanks much!
    -Sarah

I tried to search through other threads before posting my question, but I guess I didn't come across yours.
It was in response to your other question on the forums... So it was an answer directly to you.

As for your other question, that I also answered...use the camera if you want to shoot 30F or 24F, or shoot 60i and use the deck. Those are your choices. There is no deck that deals with Canon's F format...and they don't make decks. Silly stupid.

  • Need best Easy Setup

What is the best Easy Setup in FCE HD for the following:
    Video Codec: AVCHD 720p 60FPS
The closest I come to this is HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30.
Is this is the best setup would the frame rate be problematic with the video codec at 60FPS and the Easy setup showing only 30?

As it is a totally different app, vaguely similar to the latest iMovie but with more power than all the previous FCPs you will probably need to learn how to use it.
If so go to Izzy Video where you can watch/download over 2 hours of free video tutorials.

  • FCE HD Easy Setup for Canon Vixia HFS21?

Dear ones, I have FCE HD v 3.5.1 installed on Powerbook G4 Mac OSX 10.4.11
Is FCE HD v 3.5.1 compatible with Canon HD Vixia HFS21?
If so, what is the appropriate Easy Setup for Canon HD Vixia HFS21?    Thxs kindly!
Do I need an Intel based laptop to use this Canon Vixia HD HFS21?  I believe my Powerbook G4 is not Intel based! Or is it?
    Thanks kindly!
    Nestor

    Bad news:
I'm pretty sure this Canon shoots AVCHD video for which you need both FCE4 and an Intel Mac to edit.  (Your G4 was the next-to-last of the Motorola processors before Apple switched to Intel chips.)

  • Easy setup for capturing 12 bit Hi8 through a mini DV camera?

    Hi,
I have some old Hi8 tapes that are recorded in 12 bit audio. Unfortunately the easy setup for a converter doesn't seem to let you specify 12 bit audio, so I'm getting awful sync problems. I know I could record all the footage onto mini DV tapes, but is there an alternative? Is there any way of adding an easy setup that would do what I want?
    Mark
    Dual 2.5 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCE 3.5HD

If you just use the MiniDV camera in passthrough mode, it will work fine. The audio out of the Hi8 should be analog, which specifies no specific bit depth. So as long as you have your MiniDV set up to 16bit, that's what it will send to the computer.

  • Easy Setup for PAL

    Hi,
I am using a JVC GZ-HD 7 Everio in Switzerland and I am filming in 1440CBR PAL and downloading with a firewire directly to FCE 4, and I setup my Easy Setup to Format:HD / Rate:(all rates) / Use: HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50.
Is this a good setup or should I choose something different ( I am looking for the best quality possible since I am selling Gym DVDs)
    Thank you
    Michael

I have the same (fantastic) cam (from 2000 and use still the same batteries!) and use DV-pal DV Converter. Now it is also possible to capture direct from camera (thus no tape running!) that save time. In iMovie you can do the same but after ending the direct-capture, iMovie need a lot of time to make thumbnals. Or, when you pause for a while and want to go further you have to wait for very long if you direct recording/capturing was long too! Sometimes is that not possible!
    Succes!

  • Easy Setup for 24p Question

I have footage shot in standard 24p (F5 on the DVX camera)
I will be editing on a 23.98 timeline
I am also working with some 24pA material, so we're planning to use Cinema Tools to convert the standard 24p material for use in the timeline.
In Easy Setup there is one choice for DV-NTSC
    And another DV-NTSC 24p (23.98)
Confusing! Especially since I'm going to be editing in a 23.98 timeline. I know that the material on the tape, whether shot in 24p or 24pADV is 29.98; I'm just confused about which of these capture presets to choose
I knew this information at one point but it has decided to either go to sleep or exit my brain entirely.
thanks for any clarification you can offer

  • Easy setup for Digibeta?

I realize this is probably really simple, but:
I need to get my sequence out to Digi and every time I try the edit to tape i'm told i have "Incompatible compression settings"? I'm on FCP 6 going to a sony DVW-M2000P through a AJA IO (SD) and i'm using the 10bit Uncompressed easy setup, which as far as i can tell sets both the sequence and the output to the same thing?
Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I still get the same error message when I create a new sequence and nest the output sequence within it. No Idea how that can be?
On a slightly seperate issue i'm now having serious problems getting the IO back on-line (since installing the control panel). The installer updated the firmware, after which the IO simply stopped working, I tried to roll back the firmware using an older version from the AJA website but it still cannot be seen by FCP (or anything else for that matter). I'm also quite worried that the FireWire status light is on regardless of weather the IO is connected to the FireWire or not..!
I've tried uninstalling the AJA driver etc and re-installing but to no avail. If I try to update/rollback the firmware on it's own (using the firmware updater from the site) it now cannot find an Io version or serial number.
ddoes anyone know of an alternate download location for these drivers? or if there is any support for AJA offered from the UK? (the only number I can see from the site is in California).

  • Easy setup for Panasonic AG-HMC40P

I have the camera settings to capture at 1080/60i.  I burn to regular DVD, not blueray.  Can you please tell me what the easy setup should be in FCP? Once I'm finished editing in FCP, I output to QT movie and then into iDVD.

Click on one of the ingest camera files in the FCP Browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those settings here or take a screen shot of your Sequence Settings and post that screen shot here.
