Best extention cable for ihome to iphone 4s, many from web purchases haven't worked.

What is the best source for an extention cable for iphone 4S to ihome?  Many I have purchased on web for $2-$4 have not worked.

Ok - an update ...
Managed to get the phone to backup to iCloud, so decided to risk the "Factory" reset.
Took the reset option including delete all data and crossed fingers.
It took a while to resotre from iCloud, but everthing seems to be back and ...
Bluetooth now working agaim.
Backup to Computer working again.
And somewhat to my surprise, GMail in the mail app is working again. (The surprise being that the implication of other posts was that this was a 6.1.3 fundamental bug)
Still no idea why the iPhone was corrupted - but at least the "Factory" reset seems to have recovered the situation.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. What is the best charging cable for the iPad Air (that is not made by Apple)? I need a long cable (over 6ft or more). I also need the cable to be of high quality and the cord part of the cable to be made of strong material. Apple does not make one this long. Is there a cable out there that is sturdy like this and is safe to use?

yes, but I'm trying to use my iPad to type notes (using pages) and I have the smart case which I use as a stand. I need a cable long enough to fit through the back of my desk and the charging brick for the iPad won't fit behind the desk. I have to put it on the floor and then the apple cables aren't long enough to reach.

  • Can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?

Brnad new user of the iPad - can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?  The iPad does not charge when plugged into the computer or the wall (110V) adapter.  I've been able to sync in iTunes using the same cable on both.

Actually, the iPad charger works just fine with iPhones and iPods.  The iPod/iPhone charger will charge an iPad very slowly but no harm will be done.

I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks
    This may also help

The App Store is now available in Azerbaijan starting July 2011, so you're in luck. The App Store Azerbaijan has will contain apps, podcasts, iTunes U courses and royalty-free books. There are a number of Azerbaijan-centered apps in the App Store as well, so you're in luck.

The best one is the cheapest you can find in the length you need.  On consumer equipment, there is *NO* difference between a $5 cable and a $150 dollar cable.  There are some that will mumble about gold plated connectors or some mumbo jumbo about shielding (which makes no difference to a digital signal, which is what all HDMI cables are), but it is all smoke and snake oil, designed to liberate as much money form your back account as they can...
Do not be fooled by the hype and the bullsh*t; and get the cheapest cables you can find.  Use the money you save to buy a few good movies, or take your significant other to dinner...
Actually, gold plated connectors are important for corrosion resistance and shielding is critical for all high-bandwidth digital signals.  (I've seen plenty of systems fail EMI testing where I work due to improper shielding.)
However - even the cheapest HDMI cables I've found have gold plated connectors and proper shielding.
So to the original poster:  The best cable for you is the cheapest one that is:
    HDMI High-Speed certified
    Long enough
Things that are nice but not critical:
24AWG wires - the premium cables from my favorite supplier are in this category.  The cheap ones are 28AWG.  (Larger number = thinner wire).  24AWG wires will make the cable more reliable and also more durable, but also less flexible.  The big ripoff artists like Monster won't even tell you this particular specification!  If you are paying more than $10 for a 6-foot 24AWG cable, you are paying too much by the way.
Net/mesh jacket/sheath - provides a little extra protection for the cable and looks nice too.  Still, again - don't pay more than $10 for a 6-foot cable or you're getting ripped off.

  • I need a lightning to lightning extention cable for my lightning digital a/v adaptor

Why doesn't apple make a certified lightning to lightning extention cable?  Not just a longer lightning to USB cable like they have on their site. Need to extend the reach of my lightning digital a/v adaptor. I know there are 3rd party foreign versions but I would rather not risk my money or devices on cables that don't work or are dangerous.

Google lightning connector to 30 pin connector and see how many hits you get.

  • Best firewire cable for 2010 macbook pro 13 to new Seagate drive?

Hi. Have an old 2010 macbook pro 13" running OS 10.6.8. Have a friewire 800 port. Need to hook up to a 4 TB Seagate back up plus drive (http://www.seagate.com/in/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plu s-desk/) While the specs on the drive clearly indicate that it is firewire 800 compatible, I'm not sure which cable to get. I'm told there are different pins, so what exactly do i need to ask for, to make my ageing 2010 macbook talk to my new(ish) seagate back up drive via firewire? Also, if anyone out there knows where I can source such a cable in India, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks.

As far as I know, there are 2 types of charging methods.
    1) Leave the charger attached to the MacBook Pro as frequently as possible. Basically the laptop is attached to the charger 24/7.
Leaving it attached 24/7 is not good - lithium-based batteries like the one in your MBP need to be used to maintain their health.
    2) When the battery reached 100%, unplug the charger and use it with the battery only. And when it reaches a certain level indicated to connect the charger, then charge it.
This is what I have. Currently, I am doing option 2 since that is how I think batteries work.
#2 is also not good. You are thinking of the older nickel-based batteries, for which #2 was best.
The 'best' option is somewhere in the middle - use your battery frequently but lightly, an hour or two on battery a day, for a total of 1-2 cycles per week.

  • Any good chargers or dual-use cables for charging an iPhone 4S (30-pin) and iPad 4 (lightning)?

    Here is the situation:
A sick friend lies in bed most of the time and has her iPhone 4S (30-pin) charging cable connector within reach. She now also has an iPad 4 (lightning connector).
We are looking for a good charging solution which doesn't require multiple chargers or getting up and replacing the cable in the adapter.
We know we can use the same adapter for the iPad 4 and iPhone 4S, but the cable/connector is different.
Is there a good single cable with both kinds of connectors on the end?
Or would a connector adapter be easiest?
Or is there some cool charging unit which can do both at the same time?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Your only two choices, that I can think of, is to use an adapter. I have a third party one that I got at Office Depot that has micro USB on the end, with a lightning or 30 pin that I can swap out. And there are cables that are dual ended...as in the adapter is attached and can be plugged/unplugged but are still part of the cable.
For third party I'd suggest to stick to well known names, Targus, Zagg, Kensington, Belkin etc for your shopping. THose companies have most likely, gotten permission from Apple to make accessories.
The only other option I can think of is to use a longer extension cord to put the power block near your friend's bed, which will then allow her to plug in the appropriate cable to charge the appropriate device.

  • Extention cable for Mini DisplayPort

i have MacPro , i want to extent my Cinema display cable , how can i , where i can get

Assuming you have the older (2010) 27" display with a mini-displayport cable Dr. Bott makes one that also handles USB.  And OWC has one for just the mini-displayport.  There are also many other sources for these.
If it's for thunderbolt then try this google search.

  • Best prepaid carrier for dual-band iphone 4s A1387, unlocked by AT&T?

Hello -- I acquired a fine 16gb iphone 4s A1387, which is supposed be a "dual band CDMA & GSM world phone."
It was formerly on AT&T but has been unlocked by AT&T.
Do I have the best of both worlds? Can I go on either a CDMA or GSM network?
What would be your recommendation for a prepaid plan? My preference is to buy a block of minutes and GB good for an extended period, rather than a monthly plan.
How can I set up this phone to switch to wifi for Internet access when wifi is available?

If the phone was originally set up for AT&T, it can only be used for other GSM carriers. It cannot be used with Verizon or Sprint as they require the phone be in their database in order to be used - and they do not allow you to bring your own phone.

  • Best HDMI cable for 2009 Macbook?

I've been using this HDMI cable to connect my 13' macbook to my HDTV:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802 &p_id=5969&seq=1&format=2
It was great for awhile (over a year) but now the cable has stopped working.
Are there any newer/better cables out there that include audio support for an older Macbook (i.e., pre-2010?)?
The nice thing about this cable was that It was an all-in-one and thus not too bulky.

    anyone, anyone??

  • Seeking Extention Cable for Apple Pro Speakers

    is this an impossible quest?
I've searched everywhere...even tried to put something together with Radio Shack parts but no go. I see that this has been in many forums when I looked up google...hopeless?
Anyone have ANY idea where I might find one?
I bought the speakers on ebay and silly, they have the short cord which barely gets them on my desktop.
I thank you for your thoughts!

Griffin used to make an "APS Extender" that adds 6' to the length of the speaker cable. A gentleman on the Low End Mac swap list told me about a place in England where he purchased one. It cost $40 US with shipping, and took a couple of weeks to arrive. I bought one also. It was nearly a year ago. I don't know if they still have them. I don't remember the name of the place, but I'll look for it if you want me to.
Don't bother trying to use a submini stereo extension cord in the APS jack. I tried that and it only plays out of one speaker. Apparently the outside ring of the jack is a conductor for one of the stereo channels.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your friends and family... (smile)

  • Best Practice/Standard for Securing and Attaching Files in a Web Service

    Thanks in advance.
Being new to Web Services as well as most of my team. I would like to know what is the best practice for transporting files via a Web Service. I know of several methods and one that seems to be the standard, but you can't really tell in this ever changing world of Web Services. Below are the options that I have found.
    1. MIME encoded the file and embed in the payload of the SOAP message
    2. SwA (SOAP with Attachments) which applies MIME attachments to SOAP. I think this is similiar to the way emails are handled.
    3. DIME (Direct Internet Message Encapsulation) similiar to MIME encoding but is more efficient
    4. MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) I really not understand this method, but it seems that this is the NEW standard. I just don't understand why.
    5. Utilize HTTPS and download the file from an accessible file server w/ a login id and password.
Is there someone out there that understands this problem and can assist me in understanding the pros and cons of these methods? Or maybe there is a method that I'm overlooking altogether.
    Thanks

JWSDP supports securing of attachments [1]and will soon support securing MTOM attachments too. [1]http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/2.0/xws-security/ReleaseNotes.html
