Best firmware for 5.5g 80GB?

When all is said and done, what has turned out to be the best firmware (overall) for the iPod 5.5G 80GB (taking into account: navigation speed, sound, playtime, stability)?
Is that firmware compatible with iTunes 9.03.15?
Thank you!

Not quite sure what you mean, but to take a stab I would say the latest (1.3). It would help if you clarified your question.

  • What is best firmware for Nokia 5800 XM?

When I try to check firmware via *#0000# it shows my firmware is v 21.0.025 and when I check for new update, it tells me no further update available.
Yet, I see here people talk about v31 of fireware!!
How do I get later firmware?
Which is the most stable firmware? I see here that each new firmware introduces new bugs instead of fixing them!
    Thanx

There are rumors about a v60 coming out, but I quite doubt it... and even if it comes it will most likely be a failure...
Nokia has done so much stuff wrong latelly (even Symbian^3 devices are filled with bugs and issues) and doesn't commit into fix them before launching something new based on the old ones.
This angers the users and most likely drivens them away... Nokia was once one of the biggest (if not the biggest) name in smartphone industry... now ... iPhone, Android based and even the dieing Blackberry are way ahead of them ... only 'dumbphones' on Nokia worth some consideration...
If you think 5800 has issues then don't look at it's more expensive brother ... the N97... so much for a top of the line phone...
Nokia has the firmware so fragmented that makes Android look like an homogeneous mass of software...
Because how some companies work, I start a personal blacklist of devices/brands that will never buy.... Apple and Sony are on the top of that list, Nokia will soon join them :[
Well... true to be said, I have 2 old 'dumbphones' - one of them has a 3.2MP camera with OPTICAL zoom, while it has 6~7 years more than 5800 it beats it in screen quality, camera quality and build quality, it also cost half the value of it - that I would most likely return to once 5800 dies... because it will die...
5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

We want back 52.firmware it was stable without any bugss..
    60.00 full of bugs

Should I update my 5800 to v60 or not? Nokia has screwed my 5800 since v40 by inducing the "white box" bug. It is a white box behind symbian logo which shows when the menu button is long pressed to show "open applications". Since then I had to disable themes effects. Lousy Nokia.

  • Linksys BEFW11S4(BEST FIRMWARE)

    Hi.
I want to know what is the best firmware for BEFW11S4.
    Thanks!

I would consider the latest to be the best since it would have fixed the issues experienced with the older firmwares. And it would depend on your hardware version. And please remember that not all firmwares will work with another hardware version. You can only use a certain firmware version with the correct hardware version.

  • What is the best and most stable firmware for wrt1900ac?

I recently got the wrt1900ac and I wabt to update the firmware. What is the best and most stable firmware for wrt1900ac?

The most current version is pretty stable aside the Network Map App which is known to cause a router reboot. Linksys is aware of this and is working on fixing it. Just don't use this app.
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html to find out. Use v3. How many?
My current WiFi settings that are working well are Mixed Mode on both radios, Mixed Channel width on both radios, WPA2 only. Manual channel 11 on 2.4Ghz and 149 on 5Ghz. However those channels for your use will depend on whos near by your surroundings found in the InSSIDer app and you'll need to adjust accordingly to channels that are not being used which are preferred 1, 6 and 11 or (13 for out side of the north america region) on 2.4Ghz. WPS, Media Filter and IPv6 disabled. USB Drive Share, WMM and Media Prioritization enabled. LinksysSmartWiFi is enabled along with mobile access app on Iphone 4S works.

  • Great Firmware for E70 from the E61i?

    Hello!
After wining an E61i recently and comparing the performance to my E70 I noted that the E61i software handles the memory far-far better than my E70 with the 3.x firmware. (The E61i had more than 20 MB free system memory after 2 days, while my E70 can get down to 11-12 MB in one day.)
As I noticed previously that the Firmware numbers of the E70 and the E61 for the 3.x firmware have been identical - sending the message that the firmware for the two phones are identical - I started to wonder, whether the firmware of the E61i would also run on the E70 especially because it is closer hardware wise than the E61 (without the i).
It would be great if Nokia would just release the same firmware for the E70 which they have now on the E61i.
I have had a discussion with Nokia Care, and here is the most relevant part:
"I was aware of the fact you wrote in your answer, that each phone has their own firmware updates. Acctually this was the very reason why I contacted you, to request from you to release the same firmware software awailable for the E61i also for the E70 so I would be able to upload it on my E70. If the firmware software for the E61i would be able to run on the E70 also, than it is only a matter of making the same software availableto be uploaded on the E70. That is what I am asking for.
I am happy to see that in your latest answer you do not claim any more that the E61i firmware would not run on the E70 but you only say, that it is not possible to upload that firmware on the E70. That is great news for
me, as it hints that it might just work fine on the E70 also if You make that exact same software available for the E70.
That is what I have been asking for.
I hope this clarifies my point, so could you please check with the E-series phone developers whether the firmware of the E61i would run on my E70? And so if it does, please release it for the E70 also!"
Nokia Care could not advise in this matter and they sent me here.
How should we proceed from here?
    Best Regards!
    Aron

I forgot to mention that I love my E70 and would like to unlock it to full potential by better memory handling.
The memory handling of the E61i is fantastic!
If they would not say that it is without FP1 I would belive it is an FP1 device...

  • Best SSD for late 2008 Macbook?

    Afternoon,
I'm also looking for an SSD for my late 2008 aliminum Macbook. It's the 2ghz model : model number- A1278.
Can anyone suggest one that's fast and reliable, but not too exspensive. I'm looking in the 250 GB range.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!
    BertieTBE

OCZ Vertex 3! Bar none!.  For this model, only 2 SSD works reliably with the MCP79 problem that hosts the sata controller. OCZ did their best work to rectify this situation where it works flawlessly now. Crucial M4 SSDs also works well without any effort. Vertex is very fast and lower cost than most SSDs due to aggressive price pushing by OCZ.
Here is the right method of doing upgrade.
    1) Use a desktop PC to update the firmware of the SSD before installing. Choose Mac version or latest version.
Set the sata 2 setting and temperature fix using the CD software of OCZ. Best firmware update anyone has ever created!.
    2) Put SSD in USB enclosure and connect it to your Mac. Download SuperDuper software for Mac to clone your existing disk.
    3) Run SuperDuper to clone. 1 hours or less.
    4) Shutdown everything and swap the HDD with the SSD.
    5) On Bootup, then quickly Reset SMC, Left-Shift  Control Option (3 fingers on these) and Power button. Remove Magsafe power, remove the battery, Press POWER with all those things removed for 5 sec. Put battery back, Magsafe on and power up.
    6) On Powering up, quicky do NVRAM reset with OPTION COMMAND P R keys. Hold it until it chimes twice, then release. See it boot in 15 seconds and "One More thing ....."
    7) Last step, on boot up, Download TRIM Enabler 2.2 and run it. Check System profiler to see it is ON. Then enjoy. Remember to backup daily or weekly, SSDs can fail anytime without warning unlike HDD.
Note: This process can save people days of agony if they simply rush into the install without understanding the process and will cause all sorts of strange problems.

  • New Firmware for Zen. Where is

I remember during Christmas Break, when I first got my Zen (8gig, now upgraded to 6), I saw new firmware updates every week. Its been nearly 4 months without a firmware update. I liked the new features they kept adding, but stopping suddenly at only copying items in my SD card to my Zen and seeing ONLY my photos is NOT the best Creative can do. I love my Zen, but surely, someone in Creative's team can fix something about the Zen freezing (you know, fixed by using the paperclip reset ) or add more SD card functionality

"...any update would probably affect millions of Zen users..."
Not if they chose not to install it.
Re the integrated SD question. I don't know if it's deception, per se, but it kinda felt that way to me too. I don't think its an unreasonable expection that that you would be able to access the stuff on the card through the regular menu (music, etc.). I've seen a variety of players with expandable storage and Creative's is the only one I've seen that keeps the card memory separate. It's just different, and not what many people expect.
Another thing that is different and unexpected about this player is the faulty "resume" functionality. Oh, it will remember where you left off all right, and start there the next time you turn on the player, as long as the next time isn't more than 2 hours later. Overdri've media includes the Zen on its list of compatible players (one of the reasons I bought it), but it's only compatible in the sense that it will play the DRM WAV files. This flaw in the resume function and the fact that a bookmark loads only the single file containing the bookmark, i.e., it doesn't remember that the file you bookmarked is part of a playlist, makes it a frustrating experience.
I know most people use the player for music, but the audiobook & podcast world has been getting more popular for the last several years, and it would seem like Creative would want to to take those uses -- and users -- into consideration when designing firmware for their products. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to return Zen in favor of the **other mp3**, but I certainly won't recommend it to anyone if they plan to use it for anything other than music.

  • Best setting for my set of devices

I would like to know what would be the best settings to get the maximum throughput for my set of devices.
Last night both Airport Extreme and Airport Express were updated with firmware to 7.5.2
    1) Upstairs I have an Airport Extreme. Newer version with 2.4gz and 5ghz bands. This is connected to my AT&T Uverse router/modem. My iMac is ethernet connected to the Airport. Running speed tests I get almost the expected speeds of 12mbs download and 1.5mbs upload.
I had setup a 2.4ghz network and a 5ghz network but may not have used the best settings for my environment.
    2) Downstairs is an Airport Express. I is a "n" version
    3) Connected to the Airport Express via ethernet is a small ethernet hub and connected to that are 2 Dishnetwork 722 DVRs. Each 722 has a Sling Adapter to allow viewing the contents over the internet via iPhone, iPad or web browser. This was the goal for the Express, to supply that info.
Getting max speed out of this Express is important to get the DVRs output out of my house and to my iPad or iPhone.
    4) These are the following devices that are connecting at the house via wifi:
    a) iPhone 4
    b) iPhone 3g
    c) Apple TV newest model and is downstairs next to the Airport Express
    d) iPad
    e) Macbook Air first generation and this is used downstairs in the same room as the Airport Express
Using Airport Utility it appears that all devices show 80211.n and 5ghz except the iphone 3G, which shows 802.11 b/g AND shows it attached to the Airport Express even when I'm next to the Extreme.
From the Airport Utility, I've seen the values fluctuate but here is what shows Signal, Rate and Noise for each device as a snapshot on the Airport Extreme
    iPhone 4 -44, -96, 65
    Airport Express -59, -96, 144
    Apple TV -70, -96, 52
    iPad -50, -96, 65
    Macbook Air -24, -96, 216
Using the Airport Utility, the Airport express show these values
    iPhone 3G -66, -85, 54
    Airport Extreme -54, -86 104
Let me know if you need any other details.

Any advice on the best Airport Utility settings for the Extreme and the Express?
The default settings work very well, so unless you have a specific reason to change them, I would stay with those settings
Should the Express extend a network or join a network?
"Extend" provides more wireless coverage in the area where the Express is located. "Join" provides better bandwidth if you are using only for iTunes, etc. Most users want more wireless coverage.
If I were to extend at network, should the Express extend to the 5ghz or the 2.4ghz
If you have good signal strength at the location of the Express, 5 GHz will support up to 270 Mbps bandwidth. 2.4 GHz will support up to 130 Mbps. You want as much bandwidth as you can get for high definition video performance if you are using wireless. If you have an option to connect the DVRs using ethernet, that will provide the best performance.
The iPhone would have to connect back to your main router if you set the Express up for 5 GHz. It is not easy to extend 5 GHz. You literally have to have very close to a line of sight situation between the main router and the Express for this to work.
If I were to get another Extreme, should it join or extend the network on the Extreme upstairs.
The Extreme does not really do anything if you set it up to "join". The ethernet ports are not active. All you would be able to do with the device in this setting is attach a printer or hard drive to the USB port.
Any documents that would explain the best choices for linking 2 Extremes together?
Apple AirPort Networks is a very good guide.
If you are linking two routers together, an ethernet connection is always the "best" way to do this because it provides maximum bandwidth performance. Up to 1000Mbps with ethernet. "Extending" using wireless only can work well if the "extending" AirPort receives a very strong wireless signal. Ideally, there would be a line-of-sight situation between the devices or close to that ideal.

  • Best Practices for Initial Setup

Hi, I'm going to be helping a friend setup his new Time Capsule and Airport Express for his home network. I've been following some of the threads here about the nightmare problems some people are having with speed, connectivity, reliability, etc.
So I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of steps to take among setting up that might avoid some pitfalls. Feel free to add stuff not mentioned.
    1) Should firmware be updated first? What is current version?
    2) Would doing a '7-Pass Erase' on the TC first potentially avoid some issues (seems like this has helped some folks)?
    3) If you plan on storing other data on the TC yourself (not a TM backup), do you need to partition the drive first? What is the best method for this? Would this have any potential on slowing TM backups?
    4) What is best method for determining best channel to set TC to? (ie, are there ways to test?)
    5) Should you perform initial TM backups from each computer over ethernet before attempting wireless?
    6) What tools are there to accurately check your wifi and/or file transfer performance? Are there listed standards that a good working TC 'should' be to compare against.
THANKS in advance. I'm trying to help them avoid some of the pitfalls people have encountered. Hopefully this can help others as well.

    1) I would update first Airport Utility is 5.3.2 and firmware 7.3.2
    2) not needed is over kill
    3) partition is a waste of valuable space, Airport Utility is not going to do that; you'll need to pull the drive and do it then you'll run into unusual problem over the long term.
    4) jump by at least 6

  • Which is the best iOS for iPhone 3G? I am currently on 3.1.3 !

Which is the best iOS for iPhone 3G?
Should i update it to the latest 4.2.1 or let it be on my current firmware 3.1.3?
I have heard that 3G is best on 3.1.3?
    Comment?

If I may, I agree that version 3.1.3 is the best for the iPhone 3G, however, I am currently travelling in Europe and I have a SIM card from a local mobile company. I discovered the hard way that there is an option missing: Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data (on/off). This option is not present in iOS 3.1.3. So basically, you disable 3G but it is impossible to block EDGE, and your phone will automatically revert to it if 3G is not available, and you will occur cellular data fees anyway.
I am sure of what I am saying because with the local service I use, I have unlimited data for $4 per day, but it is debited as soon as I consume one byte of data, then it is free until midnight the same day. Event if I have set Enable 3G = off, Data Roaming = off, for two days in a row, I was still charged the $4 a day because the Cellular Data was not off!
I compared with my wife's iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.1, there is the three options, Enable 3G (on/off), Data Roaming (on/off), Cellular Data (on/off). The option to turn it off simply doesn't exists on iOS 3.1.3!
With some research, I found that it is possible to block it anyway if you change your APN (Access Point Name) to an invalid setting. The easiest way to do this is to connect to the Internet using WiFi, then access this web site with Safari: http://unlockit.co.nz/ (from your iPhone).
This online tool allows you to change your APN, it is very useful when you travel abroad and you use local SIMs. On the first screen press Continue, on the second screen press Custom APN to create an APN for a local mobile company, or press Disable Data (FakeAPN) to disable 3G and Edge for good. When creating a Custom APN, you will be asked to choose a Country and a Provider, then press Create Profile. Then, either way, press Install and "Install Now" or "Replace", then press Done. This will add two things to your phone: first, an app-like icon for quick access to the website http://unlockit.co.nz/, second, a new menu in Settings > General, labelled "Profile", that contains your new APN. Note that it is possible to add several profile information, and some may conflict with each other. Remove those you don't need. Don't remove them if you are not sure!
I hope this works for you!

  • Best config for adding new 250GB HD

    Greetings:
My G4 at work shipped with a 40GB drive that filled up quickly with design projects, etc. I'm on the brink of a huge catalog project, and I was down to less than 3GB of space, so I dumped all the archived stuff to an external and now have 25GB of free space to work with.
Hoping to prevent any storage/performance problems in the future, we bought a 250GB Maxtor (internal) and the Sonnet ATA/133 PCI card. At first I was thinking of partitioning the new drive to form scratch, boot and storage sections. After reading some threads here it seems partitioning would cause more problems than solve them.
So what then, would be the best configuration for the two drives to work together? I am doing some pretty heavy design work with Adobe CS and will be installing Tiger. Any ideas for the best setup for speedy and efficient operation? It'll be the first time I've added an additional HD to the rig.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    PowerPC Quicksilver G4 800MHz 1.25 GB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi, Time Pilot!
I really can't tell you the "best" way to set up your drives, but I will say that I personally run partitioned drives when it suits my needs. I still use PS 7.01 and use a scratch disk on a partitioned volume, which I also use for video import and editing. I also have a volume set aside on my second internal drive for backups/archives, in addition to the clones I keep externally.
I wouldn't recommend partitioning without good reason, but I wouldn't condemn it, as some may. I've successfully done it for years. Perhaps the biggest mistake folks make when partitioning is to create too many partitions, or partitions which are too small to be useful down the line. If I could give a general guideline, I'd say that fewer partitions is better, resulting in more space per partition while minimizing wasted space. Do what makes sense for you, rather than be hamstrung during daily operations. Alternately, add yet another drive.
Regarding the card and new drive... your original drive should already be jumpered as Master, but you might check to insure it's not set for Cable Select. Put the new drive on the Sonnet card, jumpered as Master and connected to the end connector on the ribbon cable. You can leave your old drive on the logic board's bus if it's the original drive that came with the Mac. Unless it's an ATA-100 or -133 drive, you won't get any better performance from it if you install it on the second controller on the Sonnet PCI card. After installing the PCI card and drive, do a PRAM reset when you boot the first time. Then launch Disk Utility and format (initialize) the drive, using the Erase option. Format the drive with Mac OS Extended and check the box to install the OS 9 drivers, whether you plan to run OS 9 or not. It takes up no user-accessible space on the drive and you might be glad the drivers are there if you ever have to do a firmware update which OS X might not be able to handle, or something similar. You might also take the opportunity to overwrite zeros to the new drive before putting into service. This takes a few hours and is not essential, but is good insurance. The zero-overwrite process will identify and map out any bad sectors which may be on the drive, precluding their future use and insuring against consequent data corruption. If you plan on partitioning, switch to the Partition tab when you're done.
If you want to move your current startup volume to the new drive, use a cloning utility to do so. You can use the Restore option in Disk Utility, but most folks seem to prefer a third-party alternative like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!. The former is donationware and the latter is freeware for full volume cloning. Both are very simple and effective.

  • Best Practices for Using Airport Express to Stream iTunes via Ethernet

So I've been reading various posts about using Airport Express to stream iTunes and I've been reading various posts about using the Ethernet port on the Express. However, not sure I've yet found an inclusive listing of settings for both. Wondering if anyone out there has such a thing?
I have an (older) Aiport Express (802.11g, no 'n') running the latest Firmware (6.3, I believe). I have it lashed into my switch via a Cat 6 cable and the 3.5 stereo mini running out to RCA jacks into my RussSound (home audio system) amp. I'd like to make the Express ONLY a iTunes streaming device getting its network link over Ethernet (AirTunes). So, what does everyone suggest for best settings for turning on the Ethernet, turning off the WiFi and running AirTunes?
    Thanks much in advance!
    cheers
    cp root

Airport > Wireless > Wireless mode "off"
Internet > Internet connection > Connect using "Ethernet", Configure IPv4 "via DHCP"
    Music > Enable Airtunes
Enable Airtunes over Ethernet (if this choice appears).
When I first did this, the remote speakers didn't appear in iTunes. I poked around to see what I missed and couldn't find anything wrong, but the next time I ran iTunes the remote speakers appeared.
If you run into a firewall problem, make sure your OS X firewall is configured to "set access for specific services and applications": http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/18503.html
Firmware 6.3 is correct for your Express.
