Best HD for sft instr. and audio recording

hello everyone,
having big problem with both Lacie and WD hard drives, i'd like to know what is safe and fast (FW800), for audio transfer. Even when the CPU load meter is low I get system overload messages and broken audio
I assume it is the hard drive that is not fast enough. Am i wrong?
with best regards.

Are Glyph drives using the Oxford 911/922 chips now?
I hope so.
I had them a few years back. A GT-308 rack.
The chipset they were using destroyed every drive in
the rack.
Really? (he asked, incredulous)
Wow, sorry to hear about that. I'm positive that Glyph's been using the 911 chips for at least the past 2 - 3 years if not longer. And prior to that I hadn't had any problem with their drives. Expensive, but worth it for the warranty and the tech support alone. Blew the bridge twice (doh!) in one of my older drives (a Project 30) and they replaced it both times with 24 hr turnaround.
Best,

  • What's the best mouse for heavy video and audio editing?

I do an enormous of audio and video editing.  I'm finally feeling the strange sensations of tightness in my right hand (being right-handed).  I realize now that the typical mouse design is bad for heavy precision work.  When I use my son's Mac flat mouse, I notice that my hand lies flat and somewhat rested while working.
Can anyone recommend a great flat or other mouse for my PC?

I guess it's all a matter of personal preference.
When I got my Mac, the first thing I did was replace that God-awful Mighty Mouse with a nice, generic two-button roller mouse.
They all work about the same. I guess it's mostly about your personal ergonomic comfort.

Unlikely.  Based on the complete lack of detail of the issue provided it is entirely possible the same issue would occur.
Unless and until the user provides some actual details of the problem, there is nothing the indicate that the issue is with the iPhone.

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

  • HT1296 I was using the iCloud for my iPod and had recorded an important Voice Memo on the device. Before I was able to store it on my computer, the device stopped working. I have the data on the Cloud, how can I get that back to my iMac?

I was using the iCloud for my iPod and had recorded several irreplaceable Voice Memos. It went up to the Cloud, but I wasn't too savvy with the Cloud at that point, so it wasn't syncronizing to my home computer. So, the thing is that the iPod died and the backup is in the Cloud and I would like to load the backup to my iMac to recover my data. How can I do that? Thanks

The new device I got to replace the iTouch is a iPad and I don't see the playlist I created with previous voice memos on it at all. Is there any way to access them on the iPad? If I erase the iPad and restore it with the old back up will the Voice Memos come along and get in to my home computer or will I be out of luck?

Whats the best software for photo editing and creating product catalogues that can be saved as PDF's

You are asking two different questiions:
    1. What's a good photo editor? Answer to that here is probably obvious.
    2. What's a good desktop publishing/page layout program for creating PDF files for production? Answer, not PSE. It's a photo editor, not a page layout program.

  • Weblink issues for copying opportunity and lead records

I am trying to create weblink fields for copying Opportunity and Lead records. I am basically successful for Opportunities except that I can not get picklist or link values (such as the associated account) to copy over.
I am having no success at all for the the lead copying field. My code is as follows:
    https://secure-ausomxbha.crmondemand.com/OnDemand/user/LeadsNewPageDefault?OMTGT=LeadCreateEditForm&OMTHD=LeadEditNav&OMRET0=LeadsDetailPage%3focTitle%3dPA%2bCasinos%26OMTGT%3dLeadDetailForm%26OMTHD%3dLeadDetailNav%26ocEdit%3dY%26OCTYPE%3dOther%26ocTitleField%3dFull%2bName%26LeadDetailForm.Id%3dABHA-5SVNQI&LeadCreateEditForm.Id=ABHA-5SVNQI&OCTYPE=Other&LeadCreateEditForm.First Name=%%%First_Name%%%&LeadCreateEditForm.Last Name=%%%Last_Name%%%.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
To my knowledge there is no written documentation available. But this is the way i do it. Go to the lead edit page. Right click in your IE and choose view source. Search for that particular field say "First Name" or "Last Name". As part of the HTML code displaying the field (<input> html tag), you can find the exact field name to be used.
The example in my case is below says the field name is LeadCreateEditForm.First Name
    "First Name*</span></td><td class="fv" style="padding-left:6px;height:2px;vertical-align:middle"><input name="LeadCreateEditForm.First Name" size="20" maxlength="50" tabindex="4" type="text" value="Doug" class="inputControl" id="LeadCreateEditForm.First Name" />"
    Hope this helps !!!

  • EHD, Samples, and Audio Recording

I will be purchasing an imac which has 2 fwire ports...My concern is that I will need the 400 port for my soundcard and use the 800 for samples/loops etc. Should I partition the "system" drive and use it for recording audio or should I put the samples and loops on it? Or, should I record audio (up to 16 tracks) to the external drive?
Your system setups and advice would be much appreciated...
    have a good one
    3Eo

Sadly, once you've attached a FW400 device, your entire firewire bus is going to run at FW400 - not 800 to your additional drive, as there is only one FW bus in your machine.
+Or, should I record audio (up to 16 tracks) to the external drive?+
Yes. You'll get the best performance recording audio to a separate drive.
+Should I partition the "system" drive and use it for recording audio or should I put the samples and loops on it?+
Personally, I wouldn't partition it and I'd install your loops and samples on your system drive. Partitioning, IMO, is useful for housekeeping, but it's the same physical device, so I don't think you'll see a performance increase.
If you have large sample libraries, maybe you could try a USB external. I don't use huge orchestral libraries so others may give you different advice, but I do have large drum libraries and I find USB works fine for these, but the individual samples are quite small and therefore USB works ok with these.

  • External Hard Drive and Audio Recording Application

Hi, hope everyone is doing well today. I'm new to this forum but I have been occasionally browsing it from time to time and find it very useful. So I figured I would post a couple questions that I have.
First of all I would like to tell you all excatly what I want to do with my computer. Currently I am trying to optimize my computer for the Audio Recording Application I have *Cubase SX 3* I recently just upgraded my RAM from 512 KB to 1.5 GB. My next purchased is most definitaly going to be an external hard drive, which leads me to my first question.
    1. If someone could recomend me an external hard drive that is abosolutly amazing for audio recording and such around $150. I would ONLY be using the drive to save my audio files. Definitaly needs to be firewire also.
    2. Next question is. I've heard of people booting from their external hard drives which has nothing but there OS and there audio recording application. That way when they boot it up they don't have processes running "Behind the scenes" and taking up some processor power. Is this true? If so, how would you going about doing this and what would I need?
    3. If anybody else that is reading this is like me and does alot of audio editing on their iMac G5 computer if you could give me some tips in optimizing the performance of the computer in order to get the most out of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks ahead of time everyone.

Hard drives are pretty much the same. 7200 rpm are obviously a bit faster than 5400rpm. Why Firewire? USB 2 is about the same speed as standard Firewire 400, but the drives are cheaper.
    2. Next question is. I've heard of people booting
from their external hard drives which has nothing but
there OS and there audio recording application. That

going about doing this and what would I need?
OS processes are going to be running in the background regardless of which disk the OS is on, that's what an OS does! If you don't want more processes simply make sure you don't have any other apps open. I don't know Cubase, but a G5 will handle video editing along with background tasks no problem, and video editing generally involves far more data manipulation than just sound, even if you're doing multiple tracks.
You can easily install the OS on an external hard drive using your original system install disk. Simply connect the drive and choose that as the destination in the installer. To boot from that you would choose it in System preferences/Startup Disk. You could minimise that system by deleting other applications from that drive's Applications folder, turning off internet connections, disabling all widgets etc, but as long as you only have Cubase open it shouldn't make too much difference.
    3. If anybody else that is reading this is like me
and does alot of audio editing on their iMac G5
computer if you could give me some tips in optimizing
the performance of the computer in order to get the
    most out of it.
There's not really much else to optimise. Modern Macs are not like computers of old, and OS X is a very modern system, not requiring the type of disk optimisation etc that there used to be.

  • Advice for flash animation and audio

Just wondered if anyone could give me advice on the
    following:
I have a music score in flash with an animated bar to show
the position in the score during playback. The audio track is
included with the flash file before I import it into Director.
Is this the best method to run audio and flash together or
does running the flash movie and audio track seperately have any
    advantages.
    regards
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
That behavior will let you set a Flash sprite's member to be
    paused or
not. I don't know that this has anything to do with what you
    want to do.
You can't directly change the volume of a flash .swf from
    Director. You
can use sprite(X).stopAllSounds() to stop the sound in a
    Flash .swf in
Director, but there's no start available. A Flash .swf has a
    sound
property, but that will only toggle the sound of an .swf off
    and on, and
only applies after the sound has finished. The change will be
    used at
the next play of the .swf.
You can use the soundLevel property of Director to control
    the volume of
the whole Director movie. If you have no other sounds playing
    when the
.swf is running, you can use this property to control volume.
    It's
pretty coarse, it only allows for 7 levels of volume change.

  • Will one software program work for Tivo, VHS and audio cassette transfer?

Been wanting to do some things for awhile and am hoping I now can with the new Macbook. I have 3 things I want the capability to do. I have researched and read a million forums at this point. I am hoping for some suggestions on programs/software and I'm not against buying things.
    1) Transferring Tivo programming to the Mac and being able to burn it to DVD. I have a broadband connection and the Tivo adapter but seems like there's Toast/Popcorn or many other free programs or widgets required for Macs.
    2) Transferring VHS video to the Mac for DVD burning.
    3) Transferring audio cassette tapes to the Mac for iTunes listening or CD burning.
Is there software that handles all of these? I'm just trying to avoid buying 3 different things or downloading 3 different programs if something can do them all. I didn't find the Roxio site very helpful for the non-techs amongst us. Thanks for any suggestions...

    2) Transferring VHS video to the Mac for DVD burning.
You’ll need a piece of hardware to digitise the signal first. Connect the VHS player to this, then connect that to the Mac. Canopus make various devices for the job (http://desktop.thomsongrassvalley.com/products/ADVC110/index.php for instance) or many middle to high-end Camcorders now also have the ability to pass through the signal. Once you’ve done this you can use iMovie to capture the video and then send it to iDVD for burning.
    3) Transferring audio cassette tapes to the Mac for iTunes listening or CD burning.
Again, though more simple, the signal has to be digitised. So you need to record the audio on the Mac and then save it as an AIFF or mp3 file. You can do this with pretty much any audio recording software I’ve use both the Open Source Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and the shareware Sound Studio (http://www.freeverse.com/apps/app/?id=5012).

  • Logic Pro and Audio Recording

I just read the incredibly depressing post entitled "should emagic buy back logic?" and I'm more confused than ever about purchasing Logic.
I am primarily a guitar player and will be recording mostly real instruments. I would like to learn more MIDI, but this is not my priority. I am VERY torn between ProTools LE (Digi 002) and Logic with a MOTU.
My question is this: What exactly does everyone mean when they say ProTools does "audio" better than Logic?I mean, what is the MAJOR difference? And should this HEAVILY be taken into consideration when purchasing one or the other? I am really torn here and am going on my SECOND month of contempalation on this issue. I just want to make sure I make the right purchase because either way it is a lot of money and I am pretty much commited to one product or the other once I choose. Thanks for the help everyone.

    Jack Q,
I am in the same boat as you. I did buy Logic pro. I also have a digi001 and thought very much about the decision. I record straight audio and found more midi people working with Logic than protools. My questions before getting Logic about how many people were using it for straight audio did not ellicit an overwhelming response. Here is my opinion based on owning Logic for almost 6months.
The manual (for me) is almost useless. I am a hands on kinda guy and needed to be shown how to do many functions in person.I paid someone to help and it still was and is a huge learning curve. I came from protools which in my opinion is much more user friendly.
I bought logic pro because I have a nice apogee interface and Protools (002)does not support 92 sample rate that my appogee is capable of and higher. I also bought logic because the PLUG INs that come with it are a great value. The plugs that come with the 002 are NO comparison and very costly. I f you do get a protools rig DO NOT GET AN 002. Move up to the HD world because in the long run you will kick yourself.
This forum has helped me so much and I have begun to learn alot!!!!! The people here will really help you...and you CAN COUNT ON THEM.
Certain things about Logic really frustrate me such as there are SO MANY OPTIONS. It is a bit overwhelming. IMO. the editing is cumbersome and confusing with LOGIC.
Some people talk about LOGIC being a creative tool as opposed to protools being more of a simpler recorder and editor.I believe this to be true and ideally it would be great to have both. I am starting to enjoy Logic more and more...but if I had it my way and had the money...I would have PT HD3 and alot of even more money for plug ins.
Logic is a great value. It has lots of fun stuff to play with like loops etc. Depending on what kind of music you make it might also influence your decision. I still love my 001 and have made some good recordings that have been used on TV. I heard some cool things about Logic and wanted to upgrade the QUALITY of my recordings with the Appogee interface which as I've said before was my main reason for getting Logic.
I am a guitar player and also record live drums, bass and keys with Logic. I am still having some trouble adjusting to the nuances of how to keep it simple as a recorder and editor/mixer/master. It is slowly coming together and I can hear that the quality is very good. I personally don't like messing around with key commands as that makes me even more confused. I just lik to point my mouse and go. It seems that no matter how I slice it Logic takes a few more steps than protools does. for expample punching in etc.
ALL AND ALL..I am glad to have 2 systems. Logic familiarity is growing on me and even though I get bothered sometimes...in the long run...with the help of this forum...everything will be smooth and I'll have more time to actually make music. If you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me.
Good luck with your decision..read alot..asl questions an go look at logic in an APPLE STORE or firend house before buyiong

  • Best MMORPG for Iphone 3G and a question about gps maps

    Hi there,
Could anyone tell me what are the best free and paid iphone 3G MMORPG games? And please tell me some positive and negative things in the games.
I didn't know where i could ask this so, i came here to apple forum, because i have subsribed to internet on iphone today. This topic doesn't have anything illegal.
Another thing, does anyone knows if using gps maps through 3g internet, spends a lot of internet trafic? today i've used gps maps for about 12km and it spend me 80kb of trafic. Is this possible? because someone told me that iphone gps spend a lot, but really lot internet trafic. I didn't used sattelite view.

The sattelite view uses far more data, of course - because of the photography it has to download. But the regular map is still a bitmapped image that has to be updated. It's not a massive amount of data, but not insignificant either.
