Best hi-def camera setting when delivering video on DVD?

I know this issue has been addressed here before, but for some reason I can't find the relevant thread using the search function.
The Sony EX1 (and most other hi def camcorders) has several shooting modes.  Frame sizes available are 1920x1080, 1440x1080 and 1280x720.  Frame rates at 59.94i, 29.97p and 23.98p.  If I know in advance that I'm going to be delivering the video on DVD (after being edited in Premiere), which is the best camera setting to use?
J. D.

I usually shoot 1080p with my EX-1.  30 or 24 fps are fine depending on content and personal preference (30p for me) and always shoot in HQ (highest date rate) mode.  Interlace?  Not a chance for most of what I do.
The great thing about dropping HD shots into an SD sequence is that it gives you the ability to reframe your shot within a large canvas.  Plus perfect zooms or edits to tight shots to hide jump cuts without resolution loss.  So many options.  You can shoot in 720p if you believe more data for fewer pixels equals better SD (a valid argument I suppose), but your canvas for reframing with be substantially smaller.
I like to keep an HD version of every edit even if I believe it will ever see the light of day.  Who knows what tomorrow may bring.  After editing, if I want to play with framing, I'll copy/paste the edit into an SD sequence and go to town.  Otherwise, I'll just export the HD sequence to Encore or AME.

There isn't one. You have to convert the media to one of the ProRes codecs, probably ProRes LT would work best. You need to do this in Compressor.
Easy setup isn't relevant as it's options are for tape based media, which this isn't.

  • Red Camera Light when taking Video

    Dear All,
I know this has been discussed many times but I just want to check whether is there any way or nokia have any intention to solve this issue of having the red indicator light when taking video/picture.
I do understand is for privacy issue and have no regards in shutting off simulated camera shutter tone when taking video and picture.
However problems comes in when we try to take video/picture through windows and we see the red reflection light instead, and we are not able to capture our young children without them staring at the red light.
Do advice, im using a nokia 6710 navigator by the way
    Regards

well, i got a 6120 classic- video camera is not the best in the world. what i have found- in during the day and just for more colorful photos it is better switch a Sunny mode. but every thing goes wrong with the video.
and during the night it is better not to shooy at all.
some people told me, that the panel of a phone and the  transperent part of a camera is not of the best quality.
i even tried several programms for photo's quality development- no use.
the example of on my honda's board in the night- i guess the topic starter is talking about this effect.  http://xcuber.com/photo/kiilo89/1/1 - this is an xcuber account- there are 4 photos in that album. except one all photos shooted at night with the light source.
    can it be fixed somehow?

  • What's the best compression setting for exporting video to DVD?

My QT self contained file from FCP is 13 GB (1:02 min long) when I use DV NTSC while exporting. When iDVD finished encoding it, it went down to 3.4 GB (that includes video files in my iDVD menus).
*Since the DVD media is 4.7 GB can I make better quality DVD by lessening compression while exporting from FCP?*
I don't think there is a way to tweak compression in iDVD. And my second question:
*Is "self contained" file better quality than just a reference file?*
*I would like to make the best possible quality DVD and am looking for some tips on what settings would help me achieve it.*

    Hi Joby,
    Compressor is what you need.
Import your file, choose DVD best quality 90 minutes from the settings tab (lower left window in Compressor). This will allow your movie to be converted as MPEG 2 and ac3 dolby stereo (best compression for DVD audio).
The inspector window (lower right window) will allow you to decide/arrange settings as you like.
If you are not sure about best bit rate choice use the [Bit Budget|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html]
As you can see the inspector window offers a range of customizable settings if you are not familiar with those the manual (main menu>help>user manual) will answer all your questions. Simply type a word or definition in the search area and most likely the manual will provide the info you seek.
Self contained means that you create a file with exact copies from your original frames and edit on the timeline, a self-contained file becomes independent from your timeline. A reference movie as the definition says totally refers to your FCP project and wouldn't work on a different machine without referenced media files.
There is no difference in quality between the two QTmovie options.
    Hope that helps

  • Encoding Error for Premier Elements 3.0, when downloading video to DVD

I have been using Adobe Premier Elements 3.0 for three years without any serious problems. However, when I try to download my latest edited video from my camcorder, to DVD, it hangs up every time at exactly the same place. It starts "ENCODING MEDIA". When it reaches 49.83%, the programme stops and reports "TRANSCODING ERROR". In "HELP" I am advised to turn off all other programmes, including Firewalls and Antivirus programmes. I have done all this with no change in results. I have tried editing some more (around the 50% point). It still hangs up at exactly 49.83%. Can anyone advise me what is the problem, please? Someone suggested a dead spot on my hard drive.

  • When delivering for professional DVDs, should files always be progressive?

Is it understood that every Quicktime file that you deliver to a professional DVD authoring house should be progressive? Or do I need to ask? Or do some DVD authoring houses make DVDs from interlaced files.
A house I delivered to didn´t bother to tell me that they waned progressive files, because they thought it was so obvious that everybody used progressive.
The program I delivered was 100 per cent made from dv footage, so therefore I would have to deinterlace my self. Is the interpolation in the deinterlace filter in FCP any good? could it be compared to the interpolation filter in Photoshop.

"Professional" is meaningless around here. Your duplication house was correct but your client wasn't. You needed to know what the delivery format was BEFORE you started the job. A progressive DVD is usually meant for display on computers only. Anything that is meant to be viewed on a television/video monitor is—usually—output to DVD interlaced, unless, of course, you're going for that film look.
Progressive and interlaced have other uses, too.

  • What adjustment should I make when Render Video to make it look best in non color managed players?

I have experienced when rendering video from Photoshop that the color looks especially bad in Quicktime Player compared to what it looked in PS. I read that there is a color shift issue when Rendering Video from Photoshop due to the lack of color management in some video players. I know this is more a player issue than a Photoshop issue, but I want to be able to make my video look best across all players.
Is there any kind of general rule for an adjustment I can make?
I can't seem to find much information on Google about this particular shift with regards to PS' Render Video.

The only way to handle final output in video is to run it though a calibrated broadcast monitor, and set things per broadcast standards. I do not think that Photoshop offers that output, but Premiere Pro does.
Apple's QT Player has many issues, from gamma to color, and is not, IMHO, an ideal player. There are settings, that might help it, but if you were to deliver to a dozen recipients, then it is unlikely that each would wish to spend time with that calibration.
This article might be helpful: http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2008/06/fix-quicktime-gamma-shift/

  • When i playback videos from camera roll on pc, video plays narrow or sideways

When I playback videos taken on iPhone4s from camera roll on pc, video plays narrow or sideways?

That would be because you are holding the phone in a different way when you are filming the video. This happens on all phones, and you should experiment with holding the phone other ways and see how you like it the most. Honestly, you'd probably want to hold it horizontally to get the best videos.

What you could do now is break up your video into smaller parts and render them out, then assemble them again as a whole.
I know this is not the best fix, but it might work.
You can duplicate an edit in the main screen, then delete the last bits and export,
do the same for the other half.
Then import the two bits (or more if you need) in a new edit.
Out of curiosity, can you post what format the video is in?
Copy a video straight from the camera to your computer.
Open it in Quicktime player, and with out playing type Apple + i
or Control + i for PCs
It should tell you lots of info about the video, and might help us to see what is wrong.
This is what it looks like:

I'm not sure that recovery mode works when you have to trust the computer, but did you try it?
If you can't update or restore your iOS device - Apple Support
If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.
iCloud: Erase your device - Apple Support
This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone.

  • Where are my Camera Roll pics n videos saved in iTunes(Laptop) when I backed up my iPhone to iTunes?

I backed up my iPhone today in order to save my Camera Roll pictures and videos safely in my Laptop and then I deleted them from my iPhone to make some free space.... And I want those pictures and videos in future back into my iPhone. So I know I must restore my iPhone from back up to get back the camera roll pics and vids. But what I want to know is, where are those pictures and videos saved in my Windows Laptop when I backed up my iPhone to iTunes today? There must be some folder of iTunes or somewhere in the iTunes software where they must be saved after backing up. I want to see them on my Laptop now but how can I do that?
I did not import them, I backed up my iPhone to my Laptop using iTunes.
I want to see those pictures on my Laptop since I deleted them from my iPhone after backing up. Where are they in my Laptop now???

they are in the backup file that, sadly, is not accesible unless you restore it to a phone... if you want/need access to them, you should import them

  • Stereo audio when using video camera?  Any way to do this?

Is there any way to record in stereo (2 mics) when recording video with the onboard camera? Can the 30-pin connector receive a stereo signal when videoing?  (iPad3, iOS 7)

I figured it out myself so thought I'd share this for anyone else who wants to record video with the audio portion in stereo, you can do this using Sonoma Wireworks' GuitarJack2 in conjunction with a mixer.  Keep in mind this isn't a portable solution at all but the resulting audio is excellent, especially in headphones so this is great for doing a video of yourself singing and playing guitar (for example) and you want to capture a good stereo audio signal.  Basically, the way is works is you plug your two mics (we're talking recording style microphones with the XLR connectors) into your mixer of choice.  You then run a line out of the mixer into the 1/8" audio input jack of the GuitarJack 2 (it's a stereo line-in) and the 30-pin connector goes into your iPhone/iPad.  There are a couple of settings you have to make with the software for the GuitarJack but once you've done that, you can then make some videos with terrific stereo sound.  You monitor the audio via the headphone jack of your mixer.  If anyone knows an easier way to do the same thing, please let me know but this is the only way I've found.

    Hi, Vikas-
After a brief bit of research, you're definitely hitting upon the limitation of the browsers.  Not all of the browsers have implemented this part of the HTML5 standard, so you're going to either have to use Flash or be limited to these specific browsers.
    Thanks,

  • What is the best way to back-up and load Hi-8 video onto my i-Mac so I can edit it on i-movie? A camera store will convert it to DVD for $32/120min.ll

What is the best way to back-up my Hi-8 video tapes and then load them onto my i-Mac so I can edit them on i-movie? A camera store will convert them to DVD for $32/120min. Will I lose a lot of quality that way?

Quality is not much of an issue with Hi8, the main issue is age of the tapes.  The older the tapes, the more degraded the images are going to be.  Regardless of how you transfer the video, the quality is going to be pretty much the same.
The "best" way depends on how valuable the images are to you and how many tapes you have.  I did a similar project last winter with a collection of 14 Hi8 tapes that dated from 1994 to 2002.  I bought a converter bridge (Canopus), maximum RAM for my Mac, and a huge hard drive.  I also decided to get Final Cut Express because it had more ability to enhance the pictures after downloading them.  I am very happy with the results, but it cost me nearly $1200 for the upgrades, equipment, and software.
The only other thing to consider is to be sure that if you go with an outside vendor (like the Camera Store) that the files they provide for you will be in a format that iMovie can recognize.
    Good luck.

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.
