Best Ink Jet Printer

What would be the best ink jet printer to hook to a airport extreme router with both Mac's and Pc's hooked to it.
No need for high end printing mostly black & white word documents and a few colour pages for school projects.

The best one "for what?".
According to your post, if you're looking to print mostly B&W and some color, basically, any modern printer will do.
One point that you've to check carefully is the cost of the replacement ink cartridges.
The very cheap printers (+/- US$ 60.00) usually use one cartridge for the 3 colors (Red,Green and Blue) and one for the Black, and replacement of these cartridges cost almost the price of a new printer.
The ones over US$ 100.00 have separate cartridges for each color, so, when you run out of one color you'll have to replace ONLY that color, which can amount for a lot of savings.
If you also would like to print labels directly to the surface of the blank CD's and DVD's, then I would recommend an Epson (there're various models that'll do this).

According to this, your Canon driver has been updated for Yosemite.

Question:How do I connect my MacBook Air so my Epson Stylus Color 740i Ink Jet Printer will print?

First, the Epson Stylus Color 740 (which I assume is your printer) is listed in this article, which is good news:

So Apple can provide its driver software.

  • Does Lion work with an Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Ink Jet Printer?

Does Lion work with an Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Ink Jet Printer?

Took deliverly of my R2000 yesterday 11/04/2012.
**** of a job/mission getting to connect wirelessly to OSX Lion, but thanks to the perseverence of Epson support online chat plus ultimately phone call from Epson, the problem was resolved (total 3hours 45mins online chat 45mins on phone) yes i was a gineapig as the R2000 has only been available since March 2012 here in the UK.
    1. Download combo driver/utilities for R2000 Mac 10.6 (works with Lion)
    2. Install latest drivers and Epsonet.
    3. Connect the printer to your wireless router using a LAN cable.
    4. Ensure ink is installed on startup of the printer as the printer wont for some reason communicate without it as all the printer knows is it needs ink.
    5. Ensure Mac is also connected to router.
    6. Run Epsonet.
    7. When Epsonet has found the R2000 click next.
    8. Then click Changes on the following screen.
    9. Select wireless Lan.
    10. Select config manually (the auto will not work with Lion)
    11. Allow Epsonet to use passwords from keychain network name(SSID) + WEP password.
    12. When done you will be prompted to disconnect the LAN from the printer.
    13. Then Click next.
    14. Ensure wireless light on printer is lit if not hold WiFi button on printer for 3 Secs.
    15. If config is successful (it took me Two attempts) goto system preferences/print/scan/Add printer and add the R2000 that ends in IP.
Hope this helps someone. Epson support is a good enough reason to buy Epson IMO as mentioned with their help it took nearly 4 hours to reach the above solution at no cost to myself and believe you me i was on the verge of returning the printer to the supplier as Wireless printing is a must with a 19 month old child on the loose.
    Thanks Epson/Europe

  • Printing alarms to an Ink Jet printer?

In all the SCADA systems that I have ever done, I have always spec'ed a Dot matrix printer for Alarm Printing. Using a Dot matrix it is simple for the printer to do line by line printing and not form feed a whole sheet of paper.
With the price of Dot matrix printers going up and Ink/Bubble/Laser Jet printers going down. Has anyone been able to use one of these types of printers for alarm printing, and not have it form feed a sheet of paper for every alarm it prints?

  • Need new ink jet printer for Mac G4 with classic

I've searching for a new color inkjet printer for my G4 with Classic and have found only 1 by Epson, the R800. However, I'm getting different answers from various techs. One said I just need to get a print server. A tech at Epson says it probably won't work for my classic mode if the OS 9 software is booted up with an OS 10 driver. I don't know the answer to this or exactly what it means!!! Most of my printing would be done with OS 9 software. I have been using an HP laser printer and an HP color inkjet on all 3 of my networked Macs with no problem. Can anyone tell me if the Epson R800 will work? Thanks, Ann C

I don't have it, but the specification page says
    +Windows 98SE/2000/Me/XP, Mac 8.6-9.2, OSX 10.1.3 or later+
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&in foType=Specs&oid=37472319&category=Products
Plus, there is a driver for Mac OS 9 available for download here

So I see no reason why it would not work.

  • HP Ink Jet Printer CN219A

I am trying to print the word RED on red cardstock for a Kindergarten class to learn their colors and words.  When I put the red cardstock in the printer to print the words RED on it, the red cardstock just goes through the printer without printing on it. It will print just fine on white or light colored cardstock, but not darker colors.  Is there a fix for this?

I don't know for sure if this will work, but you could try this:
Load a sheet of white paper on top of the color paper.
In the paper tray, load a sheet of plain paper on top of the colored paper.
Select Print, then change the Number of copies to the number of copies you want + 1 (so if you want 1 copy, select 2).
    Click Print.
In theory, it will detect the white paper and print on both.
    Thanks!

  • Conecting Ink Jet Printers

Could be an Ink Jet printer, such as Epson 777i or Epson CX 3500, be "shared" with the Mac Os X Server?
I don´t have any skills on Server, and I am looking for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

I don't use the Print Services much but the problem with USB printers seem to be that they are mostly non-postscript and, like the Epson C64 for example, do not use printer PPDs (Epson use plug-ins). This means that clients are not able to access the 'extended features' of the printers because it only shows up as a 'generic' printer. This differentiates sharing a USB printer on the server compared to sharing it off an ordinary os x machine.
    However...
...you can temporarily turn your server into an 'ordinary' OS X machine, switch on the normal USB printer sharing, then turn it back into a server, and voila clients can now access all the USB printer's features - and control it via the Print Services queues.
    Disclaimer
I use this successfully but I have not used it in combination with other printers so I do not know if there are any unseen repercussions. If you want to try this, it is totally at your own risk...
    In Terminal, type...
    cd /System/Library/CoreServices
    sudo mv ServerVersion.plist oldServerVersion.plist
Log out as the current user (no need to restart), then log back in - note that it displays the normal OS X login window rather than the Server login window.
In System Preferences-> Print & Fax, you can now activate the USB printer sharing (same as in normal os x).
Then, in Terminal, reverse back to the Server...
    cd /System/Library/CoreServices
    sudo mv oldServerVersion.plist ServerVersion.plist
Log out and log in again.
The USB printer now appears in the printer queue and (as long as you installed the printer driver on server and clients) all its features are accessible.
Once again, this is not an approved Apple mod, you do it at your own risk.

  • Ink jet or laser printer?

    1) I am trying to decide whether to buy an ink jet or color laser printer for a home graphic design business. I would be using the printer mostly for proofs and comps. I am looking for recommendations for models under about $800.
    2) Are there big differences in color accuracy between ink jet and laser printers?
    3) Is the availability of Postscript an advantage for the laser printers? Or is Postscript not an important issue? The only ink jet with true Postscript I have found in this price range is the Xerox Phaser and I am worried about ink clogging from underuse.
    Thanks!

    b ark,
Lasers are getting better, but for pure quality, an inkjet is superior. Depends on what you need.
If you want the highest quality, an inkjet is the way to go. It will also have a larger color gamut, is more stable, etc. But, the majority of inkjet papers are coated only on one side, so double sided printing can be an issue.
Lasers are good for comps, but quality, gamut and accuracy can suffer. They can print on plain paper and printing on both sides is usually not an issue. They are less stable than inkjets and require more regular profiling if color accuracy is important.
a CMYK RIP provides greater control over ink limits, linearization, etc. But, a good custom color profile for your paper/printer/ink combination using the standard RGB driver is usually very good. I don't bother with a RIP, since I get great results from the driver. I have done a lot of both. A RIP will be more accurate, especially for postscript encoded data (lines, fonts, etc). RIPs also allow much greater flexibility on layout. Again, depends on your needs.
You don't mention the maximum size of paper you will print on. You can check out an Epson 2400 inkjet. Epson, Canon and HP all have reasonably priced inkjets that will accept 13x19 inch paper. I have no recommendations on lasers and am not current on what is the best bang for the buck.
