Best iPad/general coverage for travelers?  (including theft, water)

I'll be traveling in Ecuador for a year and am looking to add some insurance/coverage to my new iPad 3. I say it's new, but I've had it now for 85 days, so I know some insurance/coverage options might be out if they require the device to be purchased within the last 30 days.
I'm not sure if I would be better off with a general traveler's insurance but I figure I would like to have this insurance here and abroad.
I need options for international coverage including:
theft
drops
spills, water, humidity
possibly loss (I'm not sure if this is a must yet)
can be purchased after 30 days
Here is what I have seen thus far:
Worth Ave group
Safeware
Gocare (not sure if they are international)
ProtectMe (not sure if they are international)
Protect Your Bubble? (not sure if they are international)
Securranty (not sure if they cover theft and looks like they have a 30 day limit)
Obviously I have more research to do on these options but couldn't find everything right away.
Does anyone have experience with these or recommendations? I would love to hear it.
Thank you.

I did take a look at the case but since I'll be living in the humidity, I wouldn't be willing to open the case and actually use the iPad. If it wasn't for the humidity, this would be a nice option.
So instead I'm looking for a waterproof case, but unfortuneately most of them are basically high-end ziploc bags.
I'm hoping that Lifeproof come out with their case before I leave or Otterbox releases an Armor Series case for the iPad, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • What is the best iPad to get for elders/old people?

    Hello.
What is the best iPad model to get for old people/elders who are over 60 years old? I assume iPads' iOS can do DPI to adjust sizes for bigger
visuals. Also, it needs to work well with both English and Chinese
    Thank you in advance.

All iPads can read and write Chinese and can also have Chinese user interface.  They can even accept Chinese handwriting input.  Plus Chinese SIRI, Dictation, and Dictionaries.  See

  • Best efficient general practice for serial communication

    hello,
when talking to a serial instrument, do you have to insert millisecond waits in the while loop or will the reading and writing from the instrument generally control the loop speed of the loop?  On the basic read write example they feed in the Bytes at Port into the VISA Read.... is this making the VISA not read until those bytes are avilable? I'm wondering if this was in a while loop if the loop would only iterated once the VISA has executed the read... which in turn depends on whether the bytes are avilable at the port?
I'm trying to figure out a general best practice way of setting up a serial device in an effecient manner, for something where you send a write then read.... in the basic serial read write example there is a delay in-between the write and read... is this an arbitrary number? does it need to be there if you're not reading until a specified number of bytes are at the port anyway?
    much thanks!

As far as I use the serial VI's for communication I do not use Loops, I do use loops when I need to send a bunch of query commands. Bytes at port just gives a count that how many bytes are there at the port, even if you don't use it and wire byte count in read VI you must get the response, but you will not be sure whether you have recieved exact data. Time delay between write command read response also depends on how the protocol is setup.
I would always prefer VISA configure -> Bytes at port -> Read (this will empty any previous buffer)-> Visa write -> Bytes at port -> Visa read -> Visa Close.

  • Best ipad 1 apps for integrating voice and handrwriting recognition to other apps like email & calendar

my wife just inherited my old ipad 1 and she wants to use in her office to replace her old paper/binder franklin organizer. she needs an easy to use intuitive set of business apps that she can type, dictate & write that will inetgrate with other apps like email, calendar & orgnized note categories. what are the best apps to give her a great experience. If all goes well, she may upgrde to new ipad but she needs to see value here first to stop using her paper system.

I should also mention that we use android phones so iPad is a new technology for her. She needs a Windows or web interface since she uses gmail, google calendar & google docs. I guess I am asking for a lot but it seems that somebody (quite a lot of people!!!!) would have the same requirements. Just a no-nonsense high functionlaity portable interoperable daytime planner/organizer. OmniFocus looks good but is only Apple centric and requires iOS 6.0 where our iPad 1 only goes up to iOS 5.1.1. How about the ability to 'print' .. ??? Am I going off the deep end here ?? Sounds pretty obvious to me ...

  • Best iPad mail app for attachments

I'll be picking up the new iPad Air in the next few days and am wondering what email app I should use for attachements. My work uses a Gmail hosted email service, and I'm a Gmail user myself, so ideally it would have multi-account support.
In my work I use the usual mix of .doc, .xls and .pdf documents. From what I understand the default Mail app is not suitable for (multiple) attachments. I'm a big Dropbox user if that makes a difference.
I hear good things abou the Mailbox app (by Dropbox) and the Gmail app by Google themselves.
    Any suggestions?

I love the recently launched iPad app Cannonball. https://itunes.apple.com/app/cannonball-email/id701582906
You can search for just attachments as well as sort email into various cataegories as you would with snail mail. So subscriptions, financial, travel etc all get sorted and allow you to peruse through as you need them.
It got great reviews as well - http://mashable.com/2013/10/22/cannonball-app/

  • BEST iPad 2 case for Kids

My 5 year old has the Griffin Survivor 2 on her iPad, it's a great case.
See my review on it here
    http://livinthemommylife.blogspot.com/2012/02/griffin-survivor-ipad-2-case-revie w.html

Thank you all SO much! My 2 1/2 y.o. uses my iPad and I've been paranoid about her dropping it! I was familiar with the Otterbox series, since I have a Defender case for my iPhone 4, but was not familiar with the Trident Kraken! I think this will be a perfect fit for her, especially since she's often frustrated because of accidental screen swipes, or from where she holds the screen, and it's slightly extended handles seem to be the perfect solution. I also found it on Amazon for $27! Nice!
I'd also like to add to @HuskieN, there are 24 hours in a day and if the other parents here are like me, our children get PLENTY of outside play time, as well as other extra-curricular activities such as dance and music class, however, there are times when she needs to sit still, and I'd much rather she play with the eLearning's Spanish flash cards, or Kids Manadarin language matching game than turn what should be a 30 min affair into a 2 hour one.
We're raising well-rounded children, ones who are physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and technologically experienced, so don't knock others parenting tacticts unless you know and understand the fullness of them.

  • Whats the best ipad flash app?

  • HT1430 I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3.  How do I update my IPad?  I have gone to settings, General, but I do not have the option fo update..should k call Apple Tech?

I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3. I open my IPad to Settings, General, but there is no "update" to select..should I call Apple Tech to have my IPad updated???thanks

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, you will need to update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
You can only update a device to the highest iOS version that it supports, which for a first gen iPad is iOS 5.1.1

  • Best Ipad3 case with keyboard? Can I use a Ipad 2 case for Ipad 3?

I just bought the Ipad3 and I need to buy the case, but all the cases I found are for the Ipad 2 - are the Ipad 2 and 3 the same size? Can I use same case?
Which one is the best case with keyboard for ipad 3?
    Thanks!

First, we have a whole bunch of threads on this, so a search would help, and it would offer dozens of answers to this you might want to think about including a long thread where I reviewed a whole bunch of keyboards for the ipad3....
    But in short,
The Zagg Folio fits both the 2 and the 3 -- most people are finding in general that almost all cases made for the ipad 2 work with the iPad 3....
The Zagg has what I have found to be, by far, the best keyboard with the least errors -- in fact, I was able to get about 60 wpm on the keyboard without error after only a few minutes of practice. The downside is that the case is flimsy, looks kinda cheap, and its really hard to get the iPad out of the folio case -- I've found I have stopped using the folio at all, and just use the keyboard on my desk at work.
The clamcase fits both the ipad 2 and the iPad 3 -- it is by far the best overall case/keyboard that I have found. It looks great -- and the keyboard works well. Because of the realignment of the magnets in the ipad 3, it does not turn on/turn off the iPad like it does with the ipad 2, where that works flawlessly.
The downside is that the keys are cramped, and the error rate increases. With about a half hour of practice, I got about a 45 wmp typing rate, and that included several errors that required correction. It's a tradeoff because the keyboard feels good, the response is good, but because the keys are not seperated it is harder to type. I use this case only when I go on longer trips and don't want to take my laptop.
The nest overall keyboard is the Apple bluetooth keyboard without a case -- but it's a pain to lug it along, and you need a seperate "easel" for your ipad. Still, it's the best keyboard you can use -- and I get 65 wpm error free with this keyboard. I have one at home, and it's my keyboard of choice when you don't need the case.
Finally, I've gound that Brookstone makes a decent keyboard -- it works well, comes in multiple colors, and its actually more stable than the Zagg folio. The keyboard is not as good, though, and is plastic-y feeling. Still, it might be a fair tradeoff.
Almost all other keyboards are made by the same companies and distributed to third parties who put them into their own cases. I'd stay away from most of the other keyboards.
Overall -- for the convenience of the sheer folio thing, the Clamcase is about as good as it gets, even though it is about 50 dollars more than the Zagg and other similar models. Plus it makes your iPad look like a macbook, which is kind of cool.

  • What are the best dimensions to allow for iPad 3 Retina for full-page landscape images?

What are the best dimensions to allow for iPad 3 Retina for full-page landscape images?
I read an article and cannot find it that said something about trying to make it 2million pixels and JPG to keep it small, but what exactly should the dimensions be that I ultimately import?  Is there some kind of a "density" setting I have to use, as well, when exporting from Photoshop, for example?

See Optimizing performance in your iBooks Author books
Density is discussed by Apple in this context as 'dpi'...
    132 - iPad 2
    264 - new iPad
At the top of this forum there are popular links listed on the right, including image sizing etc. Be sure to study those existing/previous threads on this topic.
    Good luck.

  • What is the best cf card reader for ipad 3 available in uk

what is the best compact flash reader for the ipad 3, available in the uk that works with ios6.  thks

You asked about CF, which is Compact Flash (which is larger than and different from SD cards). CF is used typically in higher end digital cameras.
Here is the CF reader I recommend:
Hoodman USB 3.0 Raw Steel UDMA Card Reader for CompactFlash and SD Cards
    http://www.adorama.com/HNRAWUSB3.html?utm_source=ET&utm_medium=TransactionalEmai l&utm_campaign=2point0Product1
(also available from other sellers, including Amazon and many camera stores simply stock it on their shelf)
This product reads two kinds of cards -- CF and SD. It is very good at doing those two things (as opposed to cheap readers that read 20+ types of cards and are flimsy and don't work all that well and don't last).
This Hoodman device is ruggedly built, largely metal, and has a special pin guard "drop door" that protects the numerous delicate pins in the reader from accidental damage, which is what often happens to these CF readers -- namely a few of the many delicate pins get bent unintentionally after a period of use. This has been the bane of CF and its readers, those many delicate pins. This Hoodman design directly addresses the issue and from the reviews I've read and my daughter's experience with it, they seem to have succeeded.
It comes with USB 3.0, which is very fast (if you have the 3.0 port), and it works as USB 2.0 if you have the older interface. It reads the latest and fastest of the CF cards as well.

  • What is the best way to get a tune created in GB for iPad into iMovie for iPad?

What is the best way to get a tune created in GB for iPad into iMovie for iPad?

Haven't done it myself, but seems like the correct workflow would be:
From GarageBand (iOS), My Songs -> select song -> Send to iTunes
From iMovie HD (iOS), My Project -> Insert Media -> select by song name
I'm not sure if GB creates its own playlist for tagging exported songs in your iTunes library so selecting by name would be the next-best method.
    Have you tried this?

I am having difficuties in maintaining a Facetime connection through my ipad 2. It will generally work for 20 seconds or so, and then the frame freezes. Sometimes we have audio with a freeze frame picture. It is difficult to maintain the attention of a 2 year grandson anyway, but the the lost connections make it impossible. Any fixes?

This is a connection problem with wifi.   Either your wifi is failing, or your internet service is not fast enough for video feed.

  • What is the best ipad app to use for documents/notes

    Hi
I really want to use my new ipad at work for note taking at meetings, creating to do lists, actions etc, but most of my colleagues use laptops with MS Office (word mostly).
Does anyone have any recommendations as to whether I could do this, and if I can which app is best? Of course I want to email my colleagues with my notes so they can read them without losing any formatting I do on the ipad....?
    Help would be appreciated...

If you're about to email them, take notes right there in the 'compose email' function.  That way you can't lose any formatting !  Otherwise the Notes app isn't bad.
But if you want proper formatting flexibility then you're possibly best off getting a copy of Pages for iOS.  This has lots of formatting flexibililty and exports to Word format.
