Best laptop for Premiere

What Windows Laptop under $1500 can run Premiere effectively?

First we have to know what media you will be dealing with. And something about your workflow.
Here is what I have done and am using at this very moment.  I had to cut corners on this laptop to fit it into my budget.  In January this year I bought a refurbished ASUS G750JW for just over $900 ( just saw Newegg now has it for only $850) and upgraded the memory from the initial 8 GB to 24 GB by a very simple operation.  This computer has provisions for two hard disk drives and the furnished drive was a lousy 5400 rpm drive which has no use in video editing.  I cloned the OS and applications to a Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB SSD with the furnished Samsung Magician Software.  It was simple.  I removed the 5400 rpm drive and put the SSD in its place and the system worked perfectly.  I then installed a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro in the second disk slot.  Total cost $1450.
I have just recently edited a hour long three AVCHD camera shoot that worked beautifully.  Now you have to remember that there is only one way to edit video on a laptop, you have to keep it plugged into the AC power so that it does not go into battery saving mode and throttle CPU and GPU down.  I just checked last night and played the video from the Premiere timeline with playback set to full resolution and in the hour long video it only missed 6 frames.
Also I have found a very high performance USB3 flash drive that is fast enough to be useful to hold the project file and the media for editing.  It is the PNY Turbo USB 3 128 GB for only $49 with 190 MB/second Read rate which is faster than 7200 RPM disk drives.

  • Best laptop for Premiere Elements

Can you recommend a laptop for Premiere Elements.
    I have PE9 and thinking about PE10.
    Preferably matte screen.
UK based so Sager not really an option.
    Thanks

Laptops are never best for video editing, since they're usually built for portability rather than power. They also cost about 50% more than desktops for the same amount of power.
But what type of camcorder is your video coming from?
If you are editign tape-based video, a dual-core processor and 4 gigs of RAM with a 500 gig hard drive should be adequate.
If you are working with AVCHD video, you should go for a quad core or i7 processor running Windows 7 64-bit.

  • Best laptop for Premiere Pro CC 2015?

    Hi
I have a nice system at my homeoffice, but now I need a laptop too, for when I´m working at another office in town. I´m in a bit of a hurry, and have not catched up lately on all the new laptops and stuff, so I hope some of you guys will give it a try and help me with this one ;-)
I allready have an 4 year old laptop with only 4 GB RAM and even though it did a reasonable job years ago in Photoshop CS4 etc. it really doesn´t work for anything else than Word and internetbrowsing anymore.
So I need a laptop that will do nice, but not a 10.000$ workstation laptop...
I mostly edit AVCHD files and nothing above 1080 50P, but who knows if I will not have to deal with 4K within a year. But the 4K is not a real dealbreaker - 1080 will be just fine for a while I guess, as I mostly edit videos for online use. Besides from Premiere I use Indesign, Photoshop. Illustrator and Lightroom a lot.
As I ám going to be sitting in a small office with two other persons, I really need a laptop that does not make to much noise when idle or during normal use (like photoshop, etc.) I can live with a bit of noise when encoding/exporting video, but not while I am edditing in Premiere...
I have thought about the ASUS ROG G751JT-T7018H - wich comes with 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD / 7200 rpm,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - 3 GB GDDR5 and thunderbolt....
So the pricetag would about 2500 $ I guess - don´t want to spend more. Anyone having experiences with this laptop - especially concerning noiselevel?
My questions is (and these question are general questions - not only concerning the the ASUS mentioned above):
    1. Is 16 GB RAM sufficient - or will 32 make a huge difference? I did not see much improvements when I upgraded my desktop from 24 to 64 GB RAM...
    2. Wich Geforce xxxM cards should be avoided - if any? Is the 970M supported?
    3. Would it be better with one 1 TB SSD disk instead of 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD? Heat- and noisewise?
    4. Think I read somewhere that an external disk (RAID) with Thunderbolt could speed up things - make editing smoother - any thought about the Thunderbolt?
If you have any suggestions or experiences with running Adobe CC on any of the newer laptops from 2014/2015 please share them.
Thx in advance - and sorry for the long post...
    Cheers

    HI Bill
THank you for the quick reply..
I have read a few reviews of the Asus Rog today, and it seems to be the best choice right now. At least for me. So I am very glad to hear, that you have had so good experience with the Asus as well.
My biggest concern is noise from the coolers, because I need to have a very lownoise laptop when I sit in the new office. The room is small and we need to work with some kind of noise reduction because the walls and floor is quite hard and kind of amplify all sounds in there :-)
Another thing: the one I plan to buy gomes with 16 GB Ram (2 x 8) a 256 Gb SSD and a 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD. I might be able to live with this setup - at least for some time. i guess I could just put in another 16 Gb ram and change the HDD some day in the future when my needs eventually changes. SSDs comes in 1 TB now - could that be the way to go? Keep the 256 and change the 1 TB from HDD to SSD...
I also read a bit more about Thunderbolt. Seems to me, that with fx. a LaCie extermal  Thunderboltbased raid system I would be able to edit fluid 4K directly from the external disk???
The only thing I reslly dont like with theAsus Rog series is the gamer design. I can almost smell the rubber. i would rather have an aluminium/carbon cased monster instead. But I can live with that as long as the specs looks so good.
Anyone else having any comments on the Asus? Please share ;-)
    / Morten

  • Best Laptop For Premiere Pro Editing?

I've used my Sony Vaio for over 4 years, it's getting a little long in the tooth.  Does anyone have a preference or aversion to certain brands of laptops?  At this particular moment, I'm leaning towards a Dell...primarily because it allows for a second hard drive and has plenty of horsepower.   A second HD apparently is no longert an option with Sony.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks to all for your constructive input!
I elected for the Sager NP8120.  I have three 500 gig 7200RPM  hard drives, two of which are configured for RAID 0.  I suppose the driving factors were the number of hard drives and video card.  I've fully invested in the Adobe CS5 Master Collection, so it made sense to maximize the capabilities.
Now for the hard part...putting everything to work

  • What is the best laptop for Photoshop Elements 10 ?

I have HP Pavilion g6 Notebook,i5-245M 2.5GHZ, 4 GB mwmory, 64-bit Operating system window 7, Radeon Graphics, Eidtior not working , I get error message ( Unable to continue because of hardware or system error,Sorry, but this error in unercoverable).
So I want to give this one to my son, and I want to bay new One for me,
but i do not want to have same Error with my new Laptop,
So any one know what is the best Laptop for PhotoShop Elements 10 ?
    Thanks for Helping me .

I would suggest a machine with a multi-core processor and plenty of storage as photo files take up quite a lot of room over time. Many laptops have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and whilst elements will run OK some menu functionality will be missing if the display is not at least 800 pixels in height. A resolution of 1600 x 900 would be much better.

  • Best laptop for a family

What is the best laptop for a family- value, price, etc?

When a family shares a computer it is best to create individual accounts for each user so that email, messages, and contacts don't get blended. (Parents can set up administrator accounts for themselves and the kids can have normal accounts.) So far so good, all Apple notebooks can handle this.
Potential problem: digital photos, music, and movies. Assuming you have kids they are likely to download more music and video than the parents. Since the kids will eventually leave the nest you'll probably want to have them establish their own Apple IDs so they can take their music with them when they leave without having to have access to your family ID. Leaving this issue aside, for family use you will want to have the largest hard drive possible to accomodate all the users.
For a single user a 128GB drive might be large enough but for a shared computer no way. My wife and I wouldn't be able to even co-exist on a 256GB drive but we are somewhat out of the norm having overlapping but different music tastes and being avid photographers. So married couple could probably live with a 256GB drive but add a child or two...
Once again, assuming you have children, I'd look at the 13" MBP mostly because it has a 500GB hard drive. All the other MacBooks have solid state drives which are wonderful but are much more expensive. My favorite of Apple's computers, the 13" MacBook Air would cost $1600 with a similar sized SSD while the 13" MBP costs $1200
One other point: I always advise customers to buy a notebook if they need portability not just because they want it. A notebook always costs more than a desktop computer with similar specs and since it is carried around and subjected to the elements, tends not to last as long. Perhaps a better solution is a Mac mini and an iPad mini.

  • Laptop for Premiere CS6

    Hi All
I  check buy this laptop for editing video via Premiere CS6.
    FHD via effects.
    If it is good enough?
    Lenovo Ideapad y70-70
    Cpu : i7 4710HQ
    Ram: 16gb ddr3
GC:  Nvidia gforce gtx 860m 4gb
    HD: 256 SSD
    Thanks
    Best Regards

Past the above, my concerns would be ... what external drive connections does it have? If it's got USB3, you could use a large and FAST flash drive as the storage area for your media ... you'd need to move projects on & off it of course as you worked, but say a 128 flash drive with a high sustained read-speed would handle a lot of work moving it off that relatively small SSD. Small, of course compared to 1T or better HD's.
Thunderbolt & eSATA both have much better sustained throughput for working than USB3, for say any cache/database/renders/project file use. Though renders ... a lot of the time, out to a different flash drive would probably work fine. But with T-bolt & eSATA, you can attach external boxes pretty much as swift working as an internal drive.

  • Laptop for Premiere

    Hi,
Can anyone recommend a laptop priced around or below $1,000 that can run Premiere Pro cc fairly well?
Will an HP Envy sleekbook with 6gb ram and a radeon hd 8610g graphics do the job? Besides the amount of ram, what else would be crucial to running PRO CC?  Someone mentioned  a Dell alienware 14  laptop - heavy , priced at $1,000 - as a possibility?

    mic333,
Here is what I would suggest you do.
    1.  Get this ASUS X750JB-DB71.laptop for $909.  I do not like the low resolution of the screen (they do offer this series with a full HD screen), but you have a severe $ restriction.
    2.  Buy two hard disk drives like this 500 GB 7200 RPM drives for $60 each and install the OS and applications on the first drive and use your second 500 GB 7200 rpm one for the projects.  The laptop has two internal hard drives.  Of course the ideal configuration would be for SSD's but your budget does not allow that.  Get an external USB 3 2.5 disk enclosure for the 2 x 1 TB 5400 rpm drives and use them for backup/archiving.
    3.  Upgrade the memory to 16 GB by installing a 8 GB SO-DIMM in the empty memory slot for about $80.  (I beleive that they install one 8 GB module)
So for about $1100 you have a usable laptop with a great Intel fourth generation mobile i7-4700HQ 4-core hyperthreaded mobile processor with an nVidia GT 740M with 384 CUDA cores but sadly the 2GB of video RAM is DDR3 memory and 16 GB of RAM,  Incidently, you can acquire a disk drive carrier for the interchangable optical drive for a third disk drive.
For about $250 more than the $909 base ($1150) unit you can get a full HD screen in a refurbished unit.  It is a unit that has a better GPU, the GTX 765m.  The GTX 765m It has twice as many cores and the video memory is GDDR5 with much, much better memory bandwidth.  It has a single 1 TB drive installed currently from Newegg.  The BB in the G750JW-BBI7N05 indicates it was original configured for Best Buy where you can get a brand new unit for $1250 plus sales tax.
You just convinced me that I should have one of these and subsequent searching I just found the HD screen refurbished unit at BlinQ.com for $937.89.  I may order from Newegg and use their Iron Egg℠ Price Guarantee program

  • Need suggestion for Best Laptop for Premier Editing on the Go

    Hello,
I am a longtime user of Premier and Aftereffects and planning to buy Premier CS4 in the next few weeks.
Considering I travel a lot I need a good laptop to edit my shoot while traveling. I would like to hear from this forum the recommended laptops for editing. I am budgeting around US $2,000/-.
Secondly should I request the laptop vendor for Windows XP instead of Windows Vista considering XP seems to have better speed than Vista. If CS4 is completely 64 bit then I may end up with Vista.
One review suggested Gateway P-7811FX is a good laptop for Photoshop / Premier CS4 since it is a gaming laptop and understand it weighs 9.1 lbs.
Thanks for reading this posting and all the suggestions - pointers in advance.

Holy crap...do NOT get a Gateway anything.
Gaming technologies and build concepts sometimes are useful in video production builds, but not always. Stuff like graphics rendering often doesn't affect video.
HP has a 17" laptop line in the dv7 that is pretty nicely configured. Dual 7200 RPM drives available, as well as on board eSATA built in (for additional storage, or for connecting to an external RAID array).
Vista 64 is preferable, since the OS can utilize more RAM. Even if the suite itself is only 64bit compatible (as opposed to completely 64bit "aware") you still benefit from the OS being able to delegate an entire set of RAM to each application without sharing from a small pool of only 4 GB. I believe you can configure that dv7 laptop with up to 8 GB of RAM (or at least it's capable of up to 8 GB, but maybe you have to purchase your own upgrades separately).
Vista 32 runs PPro and AE very fast on my laptop, faster than XP Pro ever worked for me. Vista is a little bit smarter about handling physical RAM and processor resources (Vista SP1 made the OS very usable, and 3rd party support is a non issue if you are purchasing new components or a new machine, as you seem to be doing...hiccups come with trying to get 5 or 10 year old hardware and software to work on a new OS like Vista). Don't believe too much of the hype until you've given it a shot.
Oh, about 64 bit support...Photoshop CS4 is 64-bit native (Windows Vista 64 only, not Mac OSX). After Effects and Premiere Pro can open multiple instances of the application for rendering and such to take advantage of RAM availability. After Effects and Premiere Pro do approach this slightly differently from one another, but the end result is still that you have a 32 bit application that is trying to act like a 64 bit one, and from what I've seen so far, that makes a difference over 32 bit OS.

  • Best laptop for working with after effects

I need a laptop for work with adobe after effects and some others. Anyway I need laptop wich will not cost more than 1400€ and which will have inside intel core i7, 4 GB of memory or more and Nividia graphic card. Somthing more pls dont say the apple is the best beacuse i dont like it very much.
    Thanks.

4GB is a rather small amount of RAM for working with After Effects. If you can get a computer with more RAM, I recommend doing so.
For After Effects CS5, the graphics card (GPU) doesn't matter as much as RAM and CPUs, so focus on RAM and CPUs first.
In general, a laptop is not going to give you the same performance as a desktop computer of the same price. If you need a laptop, fine; but don't be surprised when performance isn't as good as you might like.

  • Best DVC for Premiere 10?

I have a Canon digital video camcorder which has no firewire connection socket - only a socket for a USB connection, which means that Premiere 10 doesn't recognise my camcorder when I want to transfer videos from camcorder to computer.
Does anyone have any opinions about the best camcorder for use with Premiere 10? Price range up to 500 dollars.

In reply to both Steve G and John T, my camcorder is a Canon Legria FS20 with its own hard drive (flash memory) and an SD card as well. I can't find out whether it has high definition or not in the manual - it seems to be geared towards displaying videos straight from the camera to the TV and for burning direct onto DVDs.
I believe it to be "a lower end, standard definition hard drive camcorder" as Steve says.
I did have a tape based camcorder before which is now broken and I don't see many of these for sale now - hard disk drive models seem to be taking over, and I don't see many film cassettes around either.
Ideally I'd go for inbuilt hard drive, high definition, a powerful optical zoom, 4:3 & 16:9 image proportion and easy transference into Premiere 10.
There are so many makes and models on the market it's difficult choosing. I'm hoping Adobe Premiere 10 users will have some ideas.
