Best Laptop for school

Im wondering what kind laptop I should get for school?? Im taking online classes and I'm wondering what should I get any suggestions?

Pretty much any laptop out there will fill that need, but of course, a faster one is always better.
I would guess a 15.6" would suit you alright, and there are PLENTY of options within your price range. I personally prefer ASUS, but there will be good options from all the manufacturers. I would suggest going intstore and getting some hands on time with a few models to see which one fits you best.

  • What is the best laptop for Photoshop Elements 10 ?

I have HP Pavilion g6 Notebook,i5-245M 2.5GHZ, 4 GB mwmory, 64-bit Operating system window 7, Radeon Graphics, Eidtior not working , I get error message ( Unable to continue because of hardware or system error,Sorry, but this error in unercoverable).
So I want to give this one to my son, and I want to bay new One for me,
but i do not want to have same Error with my new Laptop,
So any one know what is the best Laptop for PhotoShop Elements 10 ?
    Thanks for Helping me .

I would suggest a machine with a multi-core processor and plenty of storage as photo files take up quite a lot of room over time. Many laptops have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and whilst elements will run OK some menu functionality will be missing if the display is not at least 800 pixels in height. A resolution of 1600 x 900 would be much better.

  • Best laptop for a family

What is the best laptop for a family- value, price, etc?

When a family shares a computer it is best to create individual accounts for each user so that email, messages, and contacts don't get blended. (Parents can set up administrator accounts for themselves and the kids can have normal accounts.) So far so good, all Apple notebooks can handle this.
Potential problem: digital photos, music, and movies. Assuming you have kids they are likely to download more music and video than the parents. Since the kids will eventually leave the nest you'll probably want to have them establish their own Apple IDs so they can take their music with them when they leave without having to have access to your family ID. Leaving this issue aside, for family use you will want to have the largest hard drive possible to accomodate all the users.
For a single user a 128GB drive might be large enough but for a shared computer no way. My wife and I wouldn't be able to even co-exist on a 256GB drive but we are somewhat out of the norm having overlapping but different music tastes and being avid photographers. So married couple could probably live with a 256GB drive but add a child or two...
Once again, assuming you have children, I'd look at the 13" MBP mostly because it has a 500GB hard drive. All the other MacBooks have solid state drives which are wonderful but are much more expensive. My favorite of Apple's computers, the 13" MacBook Air would cost $1600 with a similar sized SSD while the 13" MBP costs $1200
One other point: I always advise customers to buy a notebook if they need portability not just because they want it. A notebook always costs more than a desktop computer with similar specs and since it is carried around and subjected to the elements, tends not to last as long. Perhaps a better solution is a Mac mini and an iPad mini.

  • Best laptop for Premiere Elements

Can you recommend a laptop for Premiere Elements.
    I have PE9 and thinking about PE10.
    Preferably matte screen.
UK based so Sager not really an option.
    Thanks

Laptops are never best for video editing, since they're usually built for portability rather than power. They also cost about 50% more than desktops for the same amount of power.
But what type of camcorder is your video coming from?
If you are editign tape-based video, a dual-core processor and 4 gigs of RAM with a 500 gig hard drive should be adequate.
If you are working with AVCHD video, you should go for a quad core or i7 processor running Windows 7 64-bit.

  • Help! Need a good laptop for school and editing. Budget is around $800 (Canadian).

I'm looking for a laptop for around $800 Canadian, I'm starting a science and technology program in high school so I will need decent graphics performance for editing and 3D modelling. My budget is a bit flexible but only by around $100 for a significantly better product. I've had my eye on the Lenovo y40-80 but some people say it's great and other call it a dissapointment. I was thinking about either ASUS, Lenovo, or MSI.  Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks.

I own an ASUS and a MSI laptop.  A little advice for you.... Visit the store and see if you can play a YouTube video.one laptop display appears dimmer and not so brightthe other laptop does a very poor job of rendering colors (especially with skin)Can't say this is a problem with today's newer machines.  But it was something that has troubled me.

  • Best laptop for working with after effects

I need a laptop for work with adobe after effects and some others. Anyway I need laptop wich will not cost more than 1400€ and which will have inside intel core i7, 4 GB of memory or more and Nividia graphic card. Somthing more pls dont say the apple is the best beacuse i dont like it very much.
    Thanks.

4GB is a rather small amount of RAM for working with After Effects. If you can get a computer with more RAM, I recommend doing so.
For After Effects CS5, the graphics card (GPU) doesn't matter as much as RAM and CPUs, so focus on RAM and CPUs first.
In general, a laptop is not going to give you the same performance as a desktop computer of the same price. If you need a laptop, fine; but don't be surprised when performance isn't as good as you might like.

  • Need suggestion for Best Laptop for Premier Editing on the Go

    Hello,
I am a longtime user of Premier and Aftereffects and planning to buy Premier CS4 in the next few weeks.
Considering I travel a lot I need a good laptop to edit my shoot while traveling. I would like to hear from this forum the recommended laptops for editing. I am budgeting around US $2,000/-.
Secondly should I request the laptop vendor for Windows XP instead of Windows Vista considering XP seems to have better speed than Vista. If CS4 is completely 64 bit then I may end up with Vista.
One review suggested Gateway P-7811FX is a good laptop for Photoshop / Premier CS4 since it is a gaming laptop and understand it weighs 9.1 lbs.
Thanks for reading this posting and all the suggestions - pointers in advance.

Holy crap...do NOT get a Gateway anything.
Gaming technologies and build concepts sometimes are useful in video production builds, but not always. Stuff like graphics rendering often doesn't affect video.
HP has a 17" laptop line in the dv7 that is pretty nicely configured. Dual 7200 RPM drives available, as well as on board eSATA built in (for additional storage, or for connecting to an external RAID array).
Vista 64 is preferable, since the OS can utilize more RAM. Even if the suite itself is only 64bit compatible (as opposed to completely 64bit "aware") you still benefit from the OS being able to delegate an entire set of RAM to each application without sharing from a small pool of only 4 GB. I believe you can configure that dv7 laptop with up to 8 GB of RAM (or at least it's capable of up to 8 GB, but maybe you have to purchase your own upgrades separately).
Vista 32 runs PPro and AE very fast on my laptop, faster than XP Pro ever worked for me. Vista is a little bit smarter about handling physical RAM and processor resources (Vista SP1 made the OS very usable, and 3rd party support is a non issue if you are purchasing new components or a new machine, as you seem to be doing...hiccups come with trying to get 5 or 10 year old hardware and software to work on a new OS like Vista). Don't believe too much of the hype until you've given it a shot.
Oh, about 64 bit support...Photoshop CS4 is 64-bit native (Windows Vista 64 only, not Mac OSX). After Effects and Premiere Pro can open multiple instances of the application for rendering and such to take advantage of RAM availability. After Effects and Premiere Pro do approach this slightly differently from one another, but the end result is still that you have a 32 bit application that is trying to act like a 64 bit one, and from what I've seen so far, that makes a difference over 32 bit OS.

  • Best laptop for ADF development?

    Hi all,
The next week I want to buy a new laptop for adf development and the question is What are the optimal requirements to run jdev and deploy big apps to the integrated weblogic without lost my hair.
I know this is a well commented issue in this forum but the tecnology change quickly.
    Jhon

Based on my experience, I can post below comments:
I used Windows7 with 4GB Ram and I5 processor (32 bit) in previous project and I started loving mac so I am using Mac (Mountain Lion 10.8.3 version, I7 processor with 8GB Ram) now for my current project but somehow I notice my mac machine hangs a lot though it is of higher configuration and also still has some jdeveloper issues like (some time my BC tester fails i.e. testing model from AM) fails adhoc basis. However all these comments are applicable only for my machines and I may be wrong as well. Just thought of sharing my experiences with Windows/Mac.
Another point, if you want to develop any ADF Desktop Integrator applications, only windows OS supports and MAC has not support for it.
    Regards,
    Ravi Nuka.

  • Best Laptop for a college student?

Hi, I'm an entering college freshman at Mississippi State University, and I'm having a little trouble finding a laptop that meets all of the University Engineering specs.
    Here are the specs...
1.8 GHz or faster Dual Core processor or equivalent.
2 Gb RAM (2 Gb is the minimum required for Vista but we strongly encourage 3 to 4 Gb)
    120 GB Hard drive
    DVD-RW required
Video screen with minimum resolution of 1024x768
DirectX Compatible Video Card with 256 Mb RAM (512 Mb RAM encouraged for longer usability in graphics intensive fields)
    IEEE 802.11g wireless capability
    Ethernet (network) card
1 Gb minimum USB Flash Drive (thumb drive, memory stick, etc.) to allow easy transfer of files between computers.
    Required Operating System:
Windows Vista Business or Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (Vista Home is not acceptable). Do not purchase the 64-bit versions of Vista. This version has not been checked for compatibility with software used in the various disciplines and needed drivers for some equipment  may not be available.
    Required Software:
Microsoft Office 2007 Professional to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks

Keep in mind that while the laptops may not be preinstalled with a "required" operating system, you can install a more suitable OS yourself.
There's a good chance you can get a SIGNIFICANT student discount through your school on the "required" OS since it's a relatively uncommon variant that most students aren't going to have.
For example, I think my girlfriend got copies of Windows XP for something like $10-20 through her school while she was a student.  I can get MS Office Professional for personal home use for around $20 through my employer.
It is possible to get VERY good (legitimate) deals on Microsoft software through employee discounts or student discounts.

  • Looking for the right laptop for school use

I'm hoping to find some good suggestions for a new laptop.
I'm a college student and need something I can take with me from class to class & use for typing notes (in Microsoft Word) and opening and editing PowerPoint documents.  I'm also wanting a fast internet connection.  Other than that, I'm hoping to spend as little money as possible.   I'd like something slightly compact, but price is more important than size.  I won't need much memory at all- my school documents will be stored on a USB and on my home PC. (Dell Studio PC)  No gaming, no need for music or pics.
    Any suggestions????  Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pretty much any netbook will work.
BUT.... the part that you'll need to clarify. Most netbooks/laptops don't come with an internet source built in. You'd either need to look at an air card from a wireless provider, or check to see if you'll have WiFi where you go to school. To be clear though.... Air Card = Internet pretty much everywhere. Wifi = Internet where it's provided by someone, either the college, or at your home, or Starbucks.

  • HELp! Best laptop for photo editing.. or would a PC be better?

I'm looking to buy a new computer. Would love for it to be a laptop but a PC would be ok too.. Any information on which is best for photo editing.. hopefully a large volume of photo editing.. which ones already have photo programs installed on them? help!

Well.... the biggest limiter will be how much you can spend...
But, you need to look for a higher end processor and a fairly decent graphics card.
No new computers come with any decent graphics program.

To my knowledge, the Slingbox can only encode standard definition output (the ones that support high def input downscale it to SD before encoding), so that machine should be more than fast enough.
HOWEVER there is the question of whether you'll be able to stream across the Pacific reliably, especially through the Great Firewall of China.  No laptop on the planet will help you if you are limited by network connectivity problems.
