Best lens for T4i for shooting at night with bright lights?

I am looking for a lens for my Canon Rebel T4i. I am a news photographer and I shoot fire, police, and ambulance scenes at night where there are flashing lights like this: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3857/15157183675_9500a2f415_b.jpg. My current lens is coming out blurry at times and overall quality is not good. I'm willing to spend a few hundred dollars on it, but nothing really expensive.

Hello sambo613,
The lens that you would want would be one with a larger aperture that will allow more light into the camera.  One of the more budget friendly lenses that you might want to look into would be the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM or the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM.  Either of these will feature a larger aperture value than what comes with the stock kit lens.
EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

  • Best practice for integrating oracle atg with external web service

    Hi All
What is the best practice for integrating oracle atg with external web service? Is it using integration repository or calling the web service directly from the java class using a WS client?
    With Thanks & Regards
    Abhishek

Using Integration Repository might cause performance overhead based on the operation you are doing, I have never used Integration Repository for 3rd Party integration therefore I am not able to make any comment on this.
Calling directly as a Java Client is an easy approach and you can use ATG component framework to support that by making the endpoint, security credentials etc as configurable properties.

What is the best way for sharing an iPad with 2 iPhones using different Apple acount ?

You can't share with other devices if you are using different Apple ID's and iTunes account on them. You can only share if you use the same ID.

  • What's the best method for a nav menu with image rollover for all visitors?

    Hi.
    First, thanks for reading this.
What's the best method for a nav menu with image rollovers for all visitors, including PDAs? I've used JavaScript rollovers for years because the majority of my customers' visitors use some version of IE (past 7.0) but I'm building a new site that has to display properly for the widest range of visitors imaginable. (I also know that I need to use a more modern method for everyone and this is my excuse to start).
Finally, using images is critical. I apologize ahead of time to anyone I offend, but I have never seen a nav menu without images that doesn't look just plain terrible.
    Thanks.

If you want the best menus possible for Dreamweaver look no further than Project Seven:
    http://projectseven.com/
They have all kinds of menus and other extensions available for purchase.  Easy to use and they work as advertised.  I personally use Pop Menu Magic and Tab Panel magic myself.  I could go on and on, but I guarantee that if others respond they will echo the same sentiment for Project Seven.

  • HT1229 what is the best method for using a iphoto with an external hard drive for greater capacity?

what is the best method for using a iphoto with an external hard drive for greater capacity?

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • I have the Canon T5i and when I shoot videoat night with a good deal of light I get a lot of noise.

I shoot at night with a lot of source light, I get a lot of noise in the video. I have all the settings on automatic. What should I do to get rid of all the video image noise?

    Hi mrmyth!
    Thanks for posting.
When you shoot in lower light, even at night with artificial light sources, the camera may need to use a higher ISO speed.  Higher ISO speeds help with exposure, but they can produce higher noise levels.  Do you know what ISO speed your camera was using?
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • Washed out pictures during night with LED lighting

Few nights back i was into a pub with my friend, we planned to capture memory with a picture. Then i set up my cam with flash light (on and auto-swapped for few times), when taking pictures got a washed out (a white, light coloured) image. Tried few times as this captured few good shots during day light (without LED), and in night with adequate lighting (flash kept off) but every time got the same poor image.
Finally had to use black burry 2.0 cam, which gave better image than this 5.0 cam.
Could someone help me to resolve this, do i need to contact the service centre to change any parts or change software. As of now i use all updated (OS and i-tunes), i just update what ever is updated.

PIjoe : has got answer for me, and feel it was my stupidity of protecting mobile.
"I had the same problem with occasional dark pictures... i noticed this only happens when I the flash is used... because when the flash is off pictures do come out ok...
and i discovered (embarrased on my stupidity), it seems i still havent removed the plastic protector at the back of the iPhone4. it appears the plastic diffuses the light from the flash and affects picture output drastically.
    I hope this helps. "
The above was her answer to other forum, Thanks..

  • Best lens for Canon 50D to shoot sports

I am looking for a lens for my Canon 50D to take sport shots of my boys?  Any suggestions?

f/2.8 constant aperture and moderate to long telephoto.
Really depends on how close you can get to your boys.  70-200/2.8 is a common sports lens, but you'll see the pro photogs have crazy stuff like 300/2.8 and 500/4.
A 70-200/2.8 will run you around $800-2000 depending on brand/features - The Tamron ones with no IS are around $800, I think the Canon L glass with IS is in the $2000 range.
    A 300/2.8 will be a few thousand, a 500/4 will be $5k+ easily.
Note:  If only outdoors in daytime, you may be able to get away with one of the (far cheaper) 70-300 f/3.5-5.6 lenses.  But these won't work well for indoor or night sports.
*disclaimer* I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of Best Buy, Geek Squad, nor of any of their affiliate, parent, or subsidiary companies.

  • Best lens for a T3

I bought a T3 a few years ago.  It has served it's purpose for basic pictures but I want to buy a better lense that will work for action shots, outdoors and low light settings.  I realize I might have to buy more than one lense but I am starting to get into photography more and my budget is very tight right now.

The point of a camera having a "removeable" lens is that no single lens is ever "best"... but you can swap in the lens which is most opimal for the situation at-hand.
I have an EF 135mm f/2L USM --  a fantastic lens, great for low-light and subjects at a moderate distance.  It's also one of the least expensive of the L series lenses (the L series lenses are Canon's top-end glass).   But as this is a prime (non-zoom) lens, it doesn't have the versatility if your subject shooting distance and framing need to keep changing... which is why just about everyone makes a 70-200mm zoom.  Further, most manufacturers make that 70-200mm zoom in a version that can provide f/2.8 at any focal length in the range.
By using the lower focal ratio versions of the lens, the lens gathers more light while the shutter is open.  The f-stop (focal ratio) is the ratio of the focal length divided by the diameter of the lens (clear aperture).  The bigger that diameter, the more light it collects.  The ratios happen to use even powers of the square root of 2.  f/5.6, for example, is √2^5, f/4 is √2^4.  f/2.8 is √2^3, f/2 is √2^2, and so on.  Notice how each square root of 2 is being raised to one power less each time we move down to a lower stop.  The reason the square root of 2 is the all-important base value is because each time you change the diameter of a circle by a factor of the square root of 2 (approximately 1.4) you will either DOUBLE or HALVE the area of that circle (depending on whether you are making the circle larger or smaller of course).
This means an f/4 lens litterally is collecting twice as much light as an f/5.6 lens (allowing you to either reduce the ISO or halve the amount of time that the shutter needs to remain open to capture the same exposure.)  An f/2.8 lens is double the f/4 lens... or four times the f/5.6 lens.  An f/2 lens is double again (or 8 times more light than the f/5.6 lens).   A couple of stops makes a huge difference.
But there are two trade-offs... as the aperture increases in size, you also make the "depth of field" (the range of distances at which subjects nearer or farther than your intended focus distance will also appear to be in reasonable/acceptable focus.  This means if you need subjects both near and far to be focused nicely then a low focal ratio is working against you (but these are laws of physics so we just have to put up with them. )
The second trade-off is physical and economic.  When you increase the diameter of the glass so that you can collect more light, the glass also gets thicker and thus heavier.  But also, the dispersion increases as well.  Dispersion is the property that causes light to split into it's different wavelengths (like the rainbow that you get when you shine a "white" light through a prism.)  This causes the images to go soft (especially near the edges).  When you zoom in to the corners to inspect the image, you may notice that edges of objects have a "purple fringe" on one edge and a "red fringe" on the opposite edge.  That's the light starting to split into a rainbow spectrum due to dispersion (the name for this is "chromatic aberration").   It turns out you can correct for this -- not perfectly, but mostly.  To do this, you'd need to add more corrective elements of different shapes to reverse the dispersion problem.  Different materials can be used to make the "glass" and some recipies with exotic substances (translation:  expensive) will greatly improve the situation.  Canon sometimes uses fluorite.  Fluorite is a crystal that has low-dipsersion properties.  It occurs in nature but only in small sizes and always cloudy/impure (not suitable for making a lens).  So they "grow" their own fluorite crystals in a kiln.  But to "grow" these crystals without impurities means it has to be grown slowly... it can take months to grow the crystals to a point where they are large enough to be ground into lenses.
This means you are using more expensive glass which is harder to produce and it also means you are adding even more glass (more weight) and of course this drives up the cost of the lens even further.
This is why you tend to not find lenses which are versatile, good in low light (low focal ratio), with high image quality, AND inexpensive.  What you need to do to the lens to make it good in low light and still maintain a high image quality definitely drives up the price tag.
You can find budget lenses but you always have to ask... what compromises are being made in order to keep the costs low?
Lenses are always a game of trade-offs.  There's a continuum of price ranges, capabilities, and qualities.  The good stuff is also the expensive stuff.    If it were possible to make a "good", "cheap", "low-light" zoom... then we'd all own it and manufacturers wouldn't even bother to make the expensive versions because there would be no market for it.

  • Best Lens for Real Estate and Landscape photography? Interior / Exterior residential homes.

    I'm using a 6D.

The "shift" aspect is used to correct for that "leaning" look of buildings ... or the trapezoidal look of doors & windows when shooting interiors.  But the shift aspect of the lens is actually fairly easy to understand.  Anyone could pick that up fairly quickly.
The "tilt" aspect -- used to alter the plane of the depth of field... that's the tricky bit.  That takes some time to learn what it's doing, how it does it, and then LOTS and LOTS of practice.  That's the part that confuses most people.  But you don't actually have to use that part (just set a high focal ratio).
I still DO NOT recommend these lenses for a beginner.  But then I don't recommend HDR for a beginner either.  Even understanding how to use Photoshop to perform perspective distortion correction using a "transform" tool may be a bit much for a beginner.
I'm the sort that will say:  "Go learn the basics with this easy-to-use technique... it will get pretty good results without too much fuss.  But when you find that it's not getting the results that some world-famous photography is able to get... it may be because that photographer is using these more advanced tools.  Someday you too may want to use those more advanced tools."
I include it for completeness.  My opinion is that when I leave out some secret (even though it's advanced) then someone is going to beat themselves up trying to understand what they're doing wrong because they aren't able to acheive a result -- only because they didn't realize that a different tool is needed.
Tilt-Shift lenses are the ideal lens for architecture and landscape.  That's their sweet spot.  So if someone says "I want to architecture and landscape" I almost feel like I'm misleading them to omit that information.

  • Best settings for Green Screen Video with Canon Mark iii

    HI
What are the ideal camera settings for Green screen video.
    Iso?
    aperature?
Depth of field settings (best to have the green screen a bit out of focus?)
Any other camera settings would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Rowby

    Hi Rowby!
Thanks so much for writing in about green screen shooting with the EOS 5D Mark III camera.  Green screen shooting can come down to some crucial elements and how well you handle the camera and the lighting.
Arguably the most important thing is to have excellent lighting on the screen.  Without this, the keys used to replace the green screen will not be accurate.  So hopefully you have a good set of lights you will be using to actually light the physical screen.
With regards to ISO, shoot as low as possible.  We suggest that you stick in the ISO 200-400 range where possible.  With good, high key, proper lighting on the screen this shouldn't be an issue.
Aperture should actually be in the higher end of the range, you would want to stick to apertures around f/8 and above.  Again, with adequate lighting this shouldn't be out of reach.  This is so the green screen is more in focus, versus having it out of focus, which would not yield successful results.
Use an appropriate lens to the subject, for example if you are doing wide shots- use only the focal length needed for the shoot and no wider.  For head shots, close ups- use a lens that will get you close.
Following these suggestions should give you some pretty good results.  Remember, if this is your first attempt don't be discouraged, green screen shooting can be difficult to accomplish.
We wish you the best of luck in your endeavor!

  • Is Rh the Best App for Managing 41 manuals, with many pages being the same?

I'd like to automate a labor intensive task that I will soon be assuming. We have 41 install manuals for an automotive accessory that fits 41 different models of vehicles. The current manual is 28 pages with at least 24 pages being identical. The documents are done in Word, along many pictures and drawings. When the document is finished, it is converted to a PDF and sent with the item. The pdf is also made available online for folks who may need the electronic version. When we change one page that is common to all, we have to manually update each Word file and then convert it. As you can imagine, the manuals don't get updated and corrected as often as they should
Since most of the pages are the same, I would like software that can manage changes to these pages and automatically update all manuals. For example, if a change is necessary on page 6 and 34 manuals use this page, I simply change one page and the software "exports" this new page to all affected manuals.
    1) Would Rh do this?
    2) Would it be the best choice for this task?
    3) If Rh is the best choice for this, what is the best approach for beginning this task? Get a book and read or just jump in?
    4) I came across a book written by a firm called GooberGuides, is this a good resource? Do you recommend a better one?
    5) Does my project require a special technique when setting it up in an app like Rh or is the process fairly intuitive? I don't want to waste time by implementing this incorrectly, only to start over again when I realize there was a better way.
I would be very grateful for any guidance you could provide.
    Thank you.
    Rodger

I don't think your questions were answered, except for the tool one, which is not the most important one. I would reverse your questions:
Does my project require a special technique? Yes! Single sourcing, which is a methodology for developing modular, reusable information, not a tool. Before you even approach a tool, you must analyze your content, define standards for it, define information types (Google for DITA), and convert it from linear (as your Word documents are) to modular.
I have not seen the GooberGuides book, but I can definitely offer these:
Content Managment for Dynamic Web Delivery - Jo Ann Hackos
DITA 101 - Anne Rockley, Charles Cooper, and Steve Manning
Introduction to DITA: A User Guide to the Darwin Information Typing Architecture - Jennifer Linton & Kylene Bruski
Managing Enterprise Content: A Unified Content Strategy - Anne Rockley
Single Sourcing: Building Modular Documentation- Kurt Ament
Tools - obviously since we're on the Adobe forum, Technical Communication Suite must be acknowledged. But you can accomplish single sourcing with several tools. Check out a brief overview of some at http://www.writersua.com/restools.htm.

  • Best practice for remote topic subscription with HA

I'd like to create an orchestrator EJB, in cluster A, that must persist some data to a database of record and then publish a business event to a topic. I have two durable subscribers, MDBs on clusters B & C, that need to receive the events and perform some persistence on their side.
I'd like HA so that a failure in any managed server would not interrupt the system. I can live with at least once delivery, but at the same time I'd like to minimize the amount of redundant message processing.
The documentation gets a little convoluted when dealing with clustering. What is the best practice for accomplishing this task? Has anyone successfully implemented a similar solution?
I'm using Weblogic 8.1 SP5, but I wouldn't mind hearing solutions for later versions as well.

A managed server failure makes that server's JMS servers unavailable, which, in turn, makes the JMS server's messages unavailable until the either (A) the JMS server is migrated or (B) the managed server is restarted.
For more discussion, see my post today on topic "distributed destinations failover - can't access messages from other node". Also, you might be interested in the circa 8.1 migration white-paper on dev2dev: http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2004/05/ClusteredJMS.html

  • Best practice for replacing a package with equivalent, lots of deps

I was having CPU issues, posted about a bit back in another thread, which brought up the fact that it might have been related to the nvidia version at that time (325.15). As a result, I switched to nvidia-beta and nvidia-utils-beta from AUR.
Nvidia from extra is now up to 331.20, and I was thinking of switching back so that I wouldn't always be surprised after a kernel update that no screens were found (AUR packages don't tend to flag updates just because linux updated). Not a big deal, as I just have to re-build the AUR package and I'm set. Anyway, I was going to switch back to the standard nvidia packages, but am not sure what to do about the dependencies on libgl, provided by nvidia-libgl-beta (a split-package provided by nvidia-utils-beta):

As you might imagine, I'd prefer not to remove all of those packages just to switch my libgl providing package and then re-install.
In digging around, I found this entry on downgrading packages without respecting dependencies.
Is that the best method for doing what I describe above as well? Would I do something like `pacman -Rd nvidia-utils-beta` (without X running) and then install the packages from extra?

It should be similar to switching to nouveau driver https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau
    Just:
    # pacman -Rdds nvidia-beta nvidia-utils-beta
    # pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils

  • Best Approach for integrating SAP CRM with Outage Management System

    Hi All,
We are moving towards deploying Outage Management System (Oracle Utilities NMS) to help localize the fault, achieve Outage Management and a transparent network with a near-real time stats. We already have SAP ECC 6.0, ISU, SAP PI 7.0 and SAP CRM 7.0. One of the challenges we are facing is to decide how should we go about the integration of SAP CRM with Oracle's Outage Management System.
Here is a sample business scenario,
CSR receives a call from a consumer and inquires about planned outages for a particular area.
This information is contained in the Outage Management System (OMS). OMS is SOA based and is hosted on Oracle Service Bus.
I want to know that is there any ES Bundles available for CRM-OMS integration? Should we go about Service Based Integration? What are the alternatives to Service based integration? Can it be done using BAPIs?
We receive around 1000 consumer complains and against every complain a ticket is generated in CRM. Now If CRM is integrated with OMS using SAP PI, the volume of the data being exchanged via PI is very much high and exceeds our licensed volume for SAP PI. So I do need to know the best practices for either approach that you may recommend.
    Regards,
    Adil Khalil

does anyone have an idea about this one, I've asked this question in a few places and no one really seems clear about it.
Also, I've read here and there that SAP Business One is not a real SAP product. It was bought by SAP and is sold by them but has little do to with SAP's technology (R/3, SAP ERP, Netweaver, SAP CRM, ...), and that therefore they don't support it that much ? Is any of this right ?
I'm just trying to get my vision of the SAP universe clear.
