Best levels for going into plugins (Logics or 3rd party)

What are your preferred levels to go into plugins?
I personally record at +4dbu = 0 VU = -18 dbFS, to get a bit of headroom in my 24 Bit System-Setup. But I realy would like to know if there´s an ideal level hiting some kind of plugins? I´m feeling that e.g. the UAD plugins are set up at a Pro-Level of +4dbu = 0VU, as they are emulations of vintage outboard Gear. What´s your expierience and feeling about that? Any "best levels" in your setup to hit some plugins (Logics or any 3rd party developers), like EQs, Compressors and so on?

Setting privilege level for logging into ASA through ACS

Hi!,
In my environment i implemented AAA for logging into switches, routers, asa etc through ACS which is being configured TACACS+.
I have set different privilege levels like readonly, readwrite etc into ACS. There are working fine when i try to login into switch or router.
But in ASA i am unable to restrict the privilege levels of different users.
Can someone plz guide me with ASA & ACS setting to solve this issue!!!!!

I tried this option. It is working fine with routers & switches. But for ASA privilege access it is not functioning.
I created 3 profiles in "Shared Profiles" & added 1 of them in Group setting & added users to this group with mentioning group authentication. This way i am able to control access to the switches & routers with proper privilege. But the same way when i tried to impolement ASA it's not happening.
Can u plz check it out...

Flickering graphics in Logic - especially 3rd party plugins

I see a lot of people reporting (myself included) "flickering" of graphics in Logic, especially in 3rd party plugins so I decided to post a video of it occurring. Is this a "known issue"? I will be reporting it to Apple, and I hope everyone else experiencing it will do the same. Please watch the video and provide any input that you might have. Thanks!

Could it be related to a Retina display?
Possibly... but as you know, I cannot test for that as i don't have a Retina display... (and frankly I'm not sure I want one at this time ) and I could recreate it on a standard screen using the same 3rd party plugin as the OP used... so i think it isn't specifically a Retina issue but... maybe retina 'enhances' the problem because of the extra load placed on the Graphical hardware/routines

I suspect however, given the video he posted, demonstrating the issue occurring with the PSP MasterQ2 plugin...that it's only happening with some 3rd party plugins.... (as again he stated "especially with 3rd party plugins" which really might mean... only with.. depending on how you 'translate' that) and therefore my comments earlier.
Finally while the number of posts about this issue is actually rather small ( as far as i can determine from some detailed searching at least).... the thread on GS seems to indicate it's been going on since early versions of LPX and is related to Yosemite rather than LPX itself...

...and some people have been reporting the same sort of flickering issues with other 3rd party apps and also plugins for apps like Aperture for example... after upgrading to 10.10... again indicating its a general Yosemite issue rather than a specific app issue.

Logic 9 - 3rd Party Plugin Settings not rememebered

Is anyone else having these problems?
GearBox and PodFarm don't recall their settings after Logic 8 to Logic 9 upgrade, so compete mixes have GONE!!!!
Wave Burner does the same thing with 3rd Party Plugins!!!!! Ozone is not recalling anything.
This is REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD!

I don't know GearBox and PodFarm, but Ozone is incompatible with a new feature in WaveBurner and needs an update.

Data ingest into Primavera from a 3rd Party application

Dear Primavera community,
Does any one know if a data ingest form a third party timekeeping application into Primavera 8.2.1.22 is possible.
I was told that there might be a limitation and an upgrade to Primavera 8.3 is needed before being able to make any data ingests.
Is that true?
If not what capabilities in regards to data ingest exist for version 8.2.1.22

Hi,
Bringing 3rd party data into P6 is certainly possible - they have exposed a few ways to do this. Primavera Web Services, Primavera Integration Programming Interface, Primavera Software Development Kit, Primavera Gateway or even just excel imports through the client.
You can either code an integration interface yourself, get someone to code one for you or use an off the shelf tool such as Legare that takes the hard-work of coding away so you can just map the data.
The one thing you can't do is just insert the data directly into the interface.
Unfortunately I can't answer the one key question you might have which is can you insert the raw hour per activity per day - i'm not sure if this gets exposed through any of the interfaces, you can certainly add the data at an activity level but possibly not at the timesheet level like you would get if you were using the Primavera timesheet application (Progress Reporter).

No InBooklet SE features for InDesign CS3, is there a 3rd party plug-in ???

I am searching for a plug-in for Mac that will supply all/most of the capabilities of InDesign's CS2 InBooklet SE for InDesign CS3. Realizing that Print Booklet was not designed to offer the same services as it's CS2 predecessor, I am hoping that a 3rd party will step up to the plate to fill the gap.
Features such as manually altering the pagination by deleting or inserting blank pages and generating a new InDesign document in printer spreads (rather than just a PDF, as in CS3) are vital to my Design department.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

InBooklet was VERY limited in it's ability to PROPERLY create new files.
That ability would have gotten even worse had those limitations
continued into CS3.
Imposition is the job of the printer, not the designer. And if you are
the printer there's really no need to be imposing InDesign files.
Follow Richard's advice and impose PDFs...it's far safer since you don't
have to worry about shadows moving or number lists getting totally mangled.
You might want to have a look at Quite Imposing since I wouldn't really
want to depend on anything owned by Quark.

Apple going to open source to 3rd party apps?

I read that apple was opening their software to 3rd party software developers. I thinnk that it's great, not only do I want to listen to music on the plane but I want to be able to play solitare, for example, or many other of the cool apps being developed. When can we expect to download apps to the phone to ENHANCE the experience?

Apple is releasing an iPhone SDK - software developers kit in February reportedly to select developers only but the select part may or may not be true but depending on the application, I don't expect to see much being available during February.

Best Substitute for Virus Indigo in Logic?

Really would miss Virus Indigo which I use in PT if I went to Logic 8. Is there anything out there that captures the Virus sounds that can be used in Logic?

Best software for getting into video

First let me claim ignorance. I just switched to mac just today with my new rmbp. I am a photographer with a d800 and I am wanting to try video for some of my engagement sessions. I am wanting to use a mix of stills from the session along with video off my d800. The first thing that came up when looking is Final Cut and I am wondering if this is the best option or if there is something cheaper that will do the job while I test the waters. Thanks so much

Best workflow for going from Final Cut 1080i60 sequence to 720 X 480

Hi:
We have edited HD footage and SD footage into a nice piece and now have to burn a DVD in 720 X 480 or 486... so what is the best plan to make a pristine DVD copy of our sequence without having to change the aspect ratio, or squeeze down images, etc... (using compressor or quicktime compression to dvd studio pro.)
Please inform--I am open to any guidance.

Best level for tone and voice - dubbing tro digi betacam

Hi All,
Im just about to 'print to tape' a doco that is airing in the UK. Any ideas if i should set tone at 0db or -12 db for the digital Betacam dub on the FCP print window.
It all sounds fine (done a copy and checked on the tv) but dont want any surprises when I drop it off at the dubbing house with my note that says TONE SET AT ......
FCP automatically puts it at -12 db - should I drop it to zero ?
Also The levels are bouncing at around -6db in FCP and all seems fine - is this ok ?

You seem to be a little confused. For clarification: A reference tone is just that. You set it at a level to relative to your mix. Here in the US there are a few commonly accepted standards. I know from other discussions on this board that it differs slightly in the UK.
For delivery to US broadcasters, (typically) when you output to DigiBeta you set tone to -20dB and your absolute peak hits no higher than -10dB. -20dB is used to reference the average level of the audio in the mix. For mastering to DV -12dB is used as reference because DV does not have as much dynamic range as Digi.
0dB reference tone would be very bad. You are mixing up VU and dB. 0VU is an analog measurement equivilent to -20dB on a digital scale.

Embedding HTML into forms to make 3rd party Host Work

My form looks wonderful! Only one problem.... It doesn't work!
It won't says the form was submitted successfully, but I don't receive it. After reading a thread that said I have to make sure my host provider enables PHPmail, I contacted them they said I need to enter the following:
mail("receiving-email","subject","message-body","headers");
Into the form to make it work.
Is this right?
If so, how and where in the form do I embed it. I don't want to screw up the widget. I opened the html page for the form, but again I don't know where to put this line, if at all.

Best Practice for Recording to HDD's.

I want some answers from some people who have been using Logic for a while and have experience in this topic. I have a 2010 MBP 13" with 1 Firewire 800 port, after looking for a cheap quality interface i purchased a Saffire Pro 14 which has a Firewire 6pin interface and i assume is Firewire 400mbps. The interface also doesn't have an extra Firewire port and the manual says not to "daisy-chain" becuase of latency and CPU spikes. Honestly i haven't noticed any problems with my HDD I/O in Logic, when i skip around it peaks but never any errors. I formatted an old 160GB Sata 1 drive and hooked it up over USB, i noticed that when i "skip" arround or w/e its called it doesn't peak (get red) anymore. I want to know peoples experience with Daisy chaining firewire devices, and using USB HDD's.
When i invest more money, would it be ok to stick with my interface for now and get a Glyph drive and daisy chain my interface on at the end? Should i stick with USB storage? Should i stick with internal 5400RPM drive? Should i upgrade it to a 7200RPM ( my original idea). In I.T. we call it best practices, whats the best practice for storing your audio/logic files on a Mac when running Logic.

Please don't just tell me Firewire is faster than USB.....I'm an I.T. Proffesional (wishing i went to school for recording ) I know how comptuers work, i build them and fix them all day. I want to know from peoples personal experience what they run and their suggestions. Thanks so much!

Best options for mass pricing load/update?

I need to design an interface to load PR00 pricing condition data into SAP from a 3rd party (custom) system. The interface will need to support (1) creating brand new condition records, (2) changing existing condition records (example i: price changes but effectivity dates remain the same, example ii: price remains the same, but the effectivity 'to' date changes, etc.), and (3) setting the deletion flag on existing records.
Any thoughts/comments on the best mechanism for getting these pricing updates loaded into SAP? LSMW vs. BAPI , etc? I've spent some time searching and see that there are some BAPI's out there, but that some folks are using LSMW or even BDC. I'm interested in hearing the pros and cons of the various approaches.
FYI, I'm on ECC 6.0.

Writing BDC and BAPI wil take time if your volume of DATA is huge then go for this option
Otherwise I suggest you use LSMW simple and quick method,
