Best Lightweight Music Player/Manager

I was looking for a music player with the following features.
1. Lightweight.
2. Quick keyboard controls.
3. Music management (organize music based on id3 tags and folders)
4. Edit id3 tags in baches and one-by-one.
5. Rating of songs.
Other features that will be appreciated but not necessary are:
1. Ability to change music format.
2. Rip music from cd.
I tried the following:
1. xmms + madman. I dont like the way madman opens xmms separately and poor integration of these 2.
2. mpd + client. I tried few clients like sonata, gmpc and gmpc works best for me, but again i cannot edit id3 tags.
3. xmms2 +client. I havent found a good client for it.
Whats the best in ur opinion.
Also please suggest a client for mpd and xmms2 that have the above features.

I guess you have to make choices on what you find important to have vs system requirements.
Some very non-scientific data:
http://fifthplanet.blogspot.com/2007/03 … ayers.html
Yeah.... i think they're very non-scientific and unrepresentative.
Just checked up here, mpd is using 0.8% of 1gb ram, that is, *8mb*
So... yeah, either all those applications are terrible, or those results are very fubar.
James
I agree... I've had MPD running and playing for the past 18 hours and it's using 6mb. MPD is very very lightweight by it's self.
Sonata is using 34mb, but I know there's alot lighter-weight clients out there.
edit: and the funny thing is, sonata (and mpd combined) beats all those music players, and it's got tons of features

  • N95 how to limit what directory the Music Player s...

Hi. I installed some sofware in E drive (memory card) with some sound files (an IM program). The Music Player managed to find them and added them to the library. But those files are really nudge sounds and not musics.
So I really prefer it not searching directories other than the one I set to search. I would like to set it to only search "Music" folder if I could.
Could you help me out? Thanks.

If you hook up via USB you can change the file attribute to "Hidden", they then don't show in Music Player.  Refresh Music Player after changing them.
I haven't done it for a while so those instructions are a bit vague, if you search this site or some of the others you'll find more detail.
I had to do it after I installed "Step Counter" -- it's sounds showed up on Music player.

  • Lightweight qt music player?

i'm looking for a simple, fast, lightweight qt music player, basically something like foobar2000. i've tried qmmp, but it scans my music directory on startup and takes an exceedingly long time to load. at the moment, i'm using juk, but it's buggy (slow startup, custom shortcuts don't work, etc.) and development seems to have halted.
of course, if there are no good options, i suppose i could go with a console-based player like moc or cmus. one question: is it possible to create a shortcut to load a player like moc or cmus?
    thanks!

Dheart wrote:When I migrated from win 4 years ago the thing I missed the most was foobar2000. Unfortunately the only way to use foobar under linux is via wine (heard that recent versions did miracles with it, perfect sound quality etc.)
I've settled with mpd + sonata. It's not that much of a feature rich but it gives you basic music player (really lightweight) easily managed playlists and lyrics + cover art fetcher, even a tag edtior.
actually, i used foobar2000 in wine for a while, but these days i'd rather use native linux applications.
    EDIT:
Whoops didn't see the qt requirement.
You could chose another mpd frontend and also the mocp shortcut is easy to create. Regardless of the DE you're using just create new shortcut and check the "run in terminal" checkbox.
awesome, just what i wanted to know.
i thought about mpd. i had some trouble getting it to work before, but i may take another look.

  • Using iPhone as a music player at work...best battery practice?

I'm using my iPhone as a music player at work. I have a power cable (one that plugs into the wall, not a computer) and am wondering if it will harm my battery's longevity if I leave the power connected all day.

You do not have to worry about your iPhone overcharging, but all li-ion batteries need to get some "exercise," so be sure you use the phone on battery power from time to time to ensure longest battery life.

  • Volume problem with Music Player on N95

    Hi all,
I am puzzled with a problem I'm having with my N95. The problem appeared after I performed an upgrade on the phone.
The thing is that the right side Volume keys do not work when using the Music player. I know the keys work since the zoom is working on the camera (the same keys). But what is really weird is that if I use the File Manager and open a music file, hence opening the Music player then the Volume keys work fine.
The problem is when I access the Music player either by the Media button on the handset or via the Menu > Music > Music Player.
This is driving me nuts I have tried to update the firmware with the same load without success, I just updated the firmware to the latest version V 30.0.018 hoping that it would be fixed but it didn't
    Anyone have the same problem??
    Thanks,

    Hi pavelosk,
I solved the problems on mine. It wasn't easy and is not a straightforward solution. After several attempts everything is ok now. I had to restore the phone to original settings. But also you need to remove all media in the phone. Somehow when the files or links to files are corrupted (often by downloading music via PC suite) this in turns gets the phone in this weird status. It is best to download music files to the phone via a data transfer.
Anyways you need to make sure all music files are deleted and that from within the music player library you cannot see any music file. It must state 0 Music files.
Once you have got rid of this, then I had to load the firmware several times until it worked. I am not sure but it happened to me that there was a new firmware available, but it didn't fix it on it's own. I had to remove the files and re-flash it like 4 times before the issue dissappeared. I know it isn't a step by step guide. But no one else knows what the problem is exactly. I am happy I managed to fix mine (after more than 4 month of trying!!!)
    Good luck.

  • Not see the background images in the music player

    Hi all!
Well I'll try to explain my problem in my best english
I have an Ipod Touch 1G (Ver: 2.1), a MacBook (Mac OSX 1.5.5) and the latest itunes avaliable for donwload.
The problem I have is that spent a lot of time adding an image to every song that I have in my music library but when I upload to the ipod it isn't shown in the music player.
    I try this things:
    - Reupload the song with de image
    - Asing an image over a song which already on the ipod yet
    - Using another PC with Windows XP and the latest version of itunes
    - Using different images for the same song, trying first one and then another one
Some songs have an image but I think that songs are there long time ago.
I hope I can explain my problem. Could you help me?
    thanks for all!

    Hi thanks for reply
I can see the album art in the itunes if I go to get information about the file there is it (I´m trying now in windows becouse I don't have here the MacBook)
I manually manage music so I uploaded one file which I can see their album art in itunes but when i play it in the iPod it doesn't show me the album art
Later I try to open the file in the ipod from itunes and I can see the image as in my computer.
I have apple care for the macbook but it seems a problem with the ipod. Don't you think?
    thanks for all!

  • Faulty n95 v21 music player?

    hi,
Before on v20 (with orig. Nokia 1gb microsd and 2gb microsd), every new music added through nokia music manager will be automatically added to the music player without me refreshing the phone, now a couple of days(maybe weeks)i updated fw (v21) and i also switched to a sandisk 4gb microsd hc, i noticed that music doesn't automatically appears on the player, i have to refresh the music player from time 2 time.
Could it be the memory card? Or the firmware?
    Thanks in advance!

Revert to a memory card that you were using when the phone didn't display the fault. If the problem goes away then the new memory card is the source of the problem. If the problem persists then it's the new firmware.

  • Lock Screen Music Player Issues

    Here is the deal:
To the best of my knowledge, there is no solution (as of yet).  I am hoping someone can guide me in the event there is.
I carry my iPhone in my front pocket like many people.  I don't carry anything other than the phone in that pocket other than the headphones. Yet somehow, almost daily, the music player starts while the phone is in my pocket.  If I manage to hear it, despite the surrounding noise and whether the headphones are plugged in, I can usually turn it off and save the battery.  However, in many instances, I have pulled my phone out to find that the player has run the battery into the ground.  After doing some general research, I have found that this significant problem is not limited to me.
Now I understand that generally, to activate the music player you have to press the home button twice and then tap play on the music player.  However, day after day the player starts.  I am certain that when the phone goes into the pocket, I press the button on top of the phone placing it in Sleep mode.  Regardless of what I do - nothing seems to work and it is my understanding that there is no setting from Apple to disable the music player.
Therefore, I believe my options are limited to the following and hopefully someone can confirm my understanding or offer better solutions:
    1.     I can remove every song from my IPhone.  Without music, there is nothing to play.  Granted it defeats one of the key features of my $600 device;
    2.     I can jailbreak the iPhone and rely on the thoughtful functions created by third parties outside of Apple who have thought this process through; or
    3.     I can buy a competitive device that is not simply a phone built around a media player.
Frankly, at the end of the day, how is this functionality not a safety hazard?  If I am stranded somewhere with no phone battery because Apple decide not to give me an option to turn off the "lock screen" music player function - I would go so far as argue that this is Apple's own negligence.  A "lock screen" by definition should LOCK THE SCREEN.  This should not be a "lock screen" with certain Apple exceptions.  At the very least, Apple should give the owner the ability to determine whether this information is accessible from the outside screen.
Even worse, assume that I have confidential business memos stored in the music player (this is where it stores them).  What if my phone was found by a competitor who decided to listen to the memo that I have on my phone - based on the current function, there would be nothing to stop them?  Or what if a child finds a phone and the music library contains explicit lyrics.  Is there nothing to stop the child from accessing these.  I cannot believe that the genuses at Apple did not have the foresight to think of these potential issues with the function - therefore, I believe that there must be a solution and I am not seeing it.
    Can anyone help?

I do have a passcode - as I mentioned I am using a LOCK SCREEN which is the password protected screen.  My point was that audio memos (like voice memos) are stored as audio files in the music player.  They are accessible through the standard lock screen music controls on the iPhone.  It makes no difference whether you have the screen locked/unlocked.  To the best of my knowledge, there is no setting to turn off those controls which would be the ultimate solution to my problem.
I purposefully don't save such memos becuase I know that anyone can access them.
I am more concerned with the player turning itself on, daily.

  • Music Player Issue

I'm having an issue with the music player for Z10. When I uploaded my .wav files, they appear in the music folder in file manager with the proper artist name and album. When I open up music player, however, only the song title is listed. There are no albums or artist titles, everything is "unknown". Why can't I see the album/artist? I don't have an external sd card, so everything is saved to the internal storage.

I wrote this a while ago. Seems it didn't help the guy I was trying to help.
I have spent many hours organizing about 1700 songs in about 140 albums. Not huge from what I can gather. It takes time. You have to use either Windows Media Player or iTunes. I use WMP. Focus on albums then artist. If it's a compilation album of many artists then use one name for all of them in the album artist field. The same for the next compilations album. I used the term Compilations. That way you don't get a zillion "albums" for all the different artists. Then use the given album name and the artist name goes into contributing artist.
I think it would've been nice to see all the artist names AND contributing artists and their respective songs when selecting artist on the phone but alas it doesn't seem to work that way. It's unfortunate that the compilations end up in this one big pot but that's the way it seems to works best.
The albums organize and display nicely...just not ALL the artists.
The album art goes into each album directory and the file should be called folder.jpg. I think this is best done manually. WMP can gortch up your listings in a hurry if you let it and if the album art isn't right it's pretty sticky to change it. It stores its jpg's deep in a directory somewhere.
Once that's all done then you open BBLink and connect to the phone and I don't bother syncing back to the computer and then manually sync to the phone.
Test with a small group of albums to see how your organizing affects the displaying on the phone and to have a smaller set to upload. I'm up to 14GB now. It takes a while if you want to do a whole change of your organizing. Adding albums after is easy and the sync is only limited to what you add.
It might also be that wav files don't have the ability to have tags in the files. So maybe it can't know to be linked to an album or artist. I just ripped everything all 320k mp3. I have some other tracks of less fidelity but all mp3.
As for the playlists...you can add whole albums to a playlist by pressing and holding the album in the album list and getting the menu from the right and selecting add to playlist. Not just song by song.

  • Nokia 2330 music player help please...

Just purchased this phone, and user guide has no info on how to download to the media player! I had hoped the PC suite would be able to be downloaded to use bluetooth, but the phone is not listed as one that is compatable with that software?! Anyone able to advise on how I'm suppose to be able to use this feature or if it is usable with the PC software?????

Hmm. I don't have this model...so what I'm suggesting is a best guess based on the fairly simple phone model you have there:
Well first, you'll need to convert any mp3 files you have into a mobile optimised format (AAC) as your phone isn't intended to play mp3 music and there's not a whole of space for music.
Next use the Nokia Suite and connect your phone via BT.
Then, go to file manager on Nokia Suite > Locate the converted music > Copy and paste/Drag and drop the file into your phone (Nokia Phone Browser > Nokia 2330 > C: ...there should be some folder for music there...)
Then go to your music player and try to check if it's there?
    The other options are:
    1. to purchase music from online, but be careful what you buy because there's a lot of MP3 mobile music which is NOT for your phone.
    2. get a friend who has .aac format music files and have him/her bluetooth it to your phone...
Do let me know if any of this has helped. If not, please indicate what you have tried.
"Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."
If you found someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to the post!

  • Successfully Synced Music Missing In Music Player

Alright, maybe you all can help me, maybe I'm just missing something obvious... Here's my problem:
I'm trying to sync my music to my Sprint Pre using the syncing feature in Windows Media Player. It says I've got 1200 songs and that they all successfully sync. What's more, if I look through the Pre's files through my computer it shows that all the songs are contained in the phone's memory just like they should be.
Problem is, once I open the Pre's music player, only about 350 songs show up. Some albums will only have a portion of their songs, and some albums are missing entirely!
Now I've tried this twice, and both times the music syncs successfully, and both times I double-checked through my computer that the Pre's memory does indeed contain all those music files. Not to mention, after the first time, when I went to delete those 350 songs to start over the computer confirmed that it was deleting 1200 files.
So it seems everything transfers over successfully, and in fact, looking now at my phone's memory, the appropriate amount of space is indeed being used... But most of that music isn't showing up at all.
Is there a file viewer\manager on the phone somewhere that I can't find? Am I missing something completely obvious? Where's all my music? WHAT GIVES?!
Thanks for any help you can give me...

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Media sync from WMP may not be the best option for managing your music. You can just put your phone into USB mode and drag and drop mp3 files to your device just like you were putting them onto a thumb drive. You can put them in any folder, the Pre will see and manage them automatically. If they're already showing there, I would delete the music off of the Pre and then re-add them manually, not syncing through WMP.
Additionally, you could use a program like DoubleTwist to manage your music.
    Hope this helps,

  • N97 V2 music player has more bugs than a hundred y...

    My problem is back!
This is what I have done in the past hour.
Exported my contacts to vcf onto memory card. Removed the card.
    *#7370# - hard reset
Went through all that... Then remembered I hadn't wiped mass storage.
Wiped mass storage (Which it kept complaining it couldn't do until I removed all the default active apps on the front screen). After removing them it eventually formatted it
    *#7370# - hard reset
    Let it get settled...
Connected to USB, did a firmware update check. 2.00.19, no update available. Disconnected USB.
Removed all the front screen **bleep**, added shortcut 2, put my normal shortcuts onto it.
    Added my wifi destination
Opened the browser, went to google.co.uk via my wifi, added that as bookmark
Put the memory card back in (there are no apps on it, I never got round to using it for anything).
Imported my contacts back from the memory card.
Went into music player, zero tracks shown. Good.
Connected USB, started Nokia Music PC application (latest version, had checked). Right clicked on one album 13 tracks.
Let it send them over to the N97.
Disconnected phone. Started N97's music player. It says music library corrupt, scanning... Says 13 tracks found.
Artists shows one artist, 13 tracks. Albums shows 1 album. All looks good.
Go into the album, pick on a track, starts playing.
Volume control does nothing. Touch volume control does nothing. Headset remote control, volume, forward and reverse do nothing. Touch screen pause/play forward and reverse do work, but there is no way to control volume.
I've screwed up this music player app before the Nokia system has even got round to sending me the Welcome text message (which I have seen too many times!).
Okay, I'm going to write the next bit line by line as I do it... So bear with me... It's step by step. You never know, it might help anyone that gives a damn (Nokia hopefully), fix it!
    *#7780# - soft reset
Front screen now just shows shortcuts1 and 2, but the shortcuts themselves have switched back to Nokia's defaults.
    Music player volume now works!
Connect to USB, send another mp3 album. PC app says (and shows on the %age bar) transferring 5 tracks. Album has 18. Nokia Music system tray icon says complete after 5, but the little arrows shows things are still being transferred. Waited for them to finish. Click the N97 icon and it's showing both albums, with all 18 tracks the second one really does have.
    Disconnect USB
Go into Music library on N97, no auto refresh message. Showing only the original album with 13 tracks.
"Options\refresh library" nothing shows as scanning, just appear straight back at the artist, album, playlist option screen. Albums still shows just the first one.
Option\music library details says 13 tracks
    Playback and volume still work.
Using the file manager, mass storage, music there's my 2nd artist, the album, and all the mp3 files. I can click them and play them. Volume still works.
Select original (found) album, select delete. Everything shows 0, even though 2nd album is there in the mass memory, file mgr shows it. First artist and albums folders are still there, but empty (Nice house keeping Nokia).
Reconnect USB, Nokia Music just shows the "invisible" 2nd album, and will play it.
Pick a 3rd album of 11 tracks... Send that to N97.. No progress bar or anything shown, just wait for the arrows to stop flashing and then confirm N97 is showing two albums (the invisible on and new one) on the PC app.
    Disconnect USB.
Back on the N97... Apps, Music.. Says Music Library 11 songs (that's the 3rd album)... Go into it..
    Albums (no songs)
    All songs (no songs)
Artists: The artist from 3rd album is shown... 11 songs!
Click it... Shows the album name, 11 songs.
Click the album, and click the first track to play it... Long delay of a few seconds...
Starts playing... Volume not working again!
Try refresh library... again, nothing, no progress bar...
    No change, no volume control.
Now here's the really weird bit... If I go and find the mp3 file on the mass storage, and play it from there, volume control works! Come back through the music play app, play the same track, volume won't work.
    *#7780# - soft reset
Welcome message, yeah yeah... Ooooh, very fast confirmation text message...
Apps, Music, Music Library (11 songs), go into that, click Albums.... "Cannot perform whilst USB connected" **bleep**?I disconnected that ages ago when i said I did. After that every attempt to go into Albums dumps me back to the Music app showing "Last player - blank" "Music Library 11" etc etc...
Exit all the way out and try to go back in...Artists does the "USB connected" error. Albums just dumps me out. Playlists says "File corrupt". All songs say "(no songs)". Podcasts and Genres say "USB connected", composers "General system error" and after that I get a couple of other system errors from other options and then it just dumps me back out.
    *#7780# - soft reset
    Ovi welcome... blah blah...
Apps, music, music library (11 songs), go into it, option\refresh... Ooooh, something happens, a progress bar! 18 files added! That's 3rd album...
Albums show both... Artists show both
Pick one for playback... Volume control is back!
Right... Time to try a different tack...
Connect USB, mass storage mode this time (all previous attempts have been PC suite mode).
Create a now folder in music for the artist name (as stored in ID3 tag), create subfolder in that for the Album name (as stored in ID3). Copy mp3 files.
Eject USB device, wait for windows to confirm... It does.
    Disconnect USB cable.
App\music\Music Library (29 songs - Thats the two previous albums). Go into it, previous tracks shown, playback/volume okay.
Refresh library works again... Now 3 albums, volume works.
Back to USB (mass storage mode).
This time deliberately doing the storage structure wrong... \music\albumname\mp3s (normally \music\artist\albumname\mp3s).
Music library still showing the 48 tracks from the first 3 albums... Seems to open a bit slower... Still works though.
    Refresh library... 13 files added...
    4 albums... All working...
Looking with file mgr from badly arranged folder is still as I made it... I guess the Nokia Music PC app creates the tree format, and the N97 doesn't actually need it.
    Okay, proof of pudding test...
    Connect via USB (mass storage).
Delete the album I created with the mangled folder structure.
Copy 20 folders of mp3 albums across using just windows file manager to the mass storage drive's music folder.
Eject USB storage device from windows....
Oh... Up until now I was almost certain I would be able to use N97 as an MP3 player as long as I avoided the Nokia Music PC app...
Apps\Music\music library shows 61 songs, which is what it had...
Go into it, click albums and I'm getting the USB device connected message. It's not, and the icon isn't even showing on the phone, so I can't go into the player to see if volume works.
Refresh isn't displaying anything, or doing anything I can see. Playlists say the file is corrupt...
    *#7780# - Soft reset
Apps\Music\music library (61 songs).. go in, "Repairing corrupted library. Searching for music and podcasts"
After a little while... 2 hundred and something found...
    Yup, all there...
    Guess what...
    Volume control is screwed again!
Manually telling it to scan for new tracks doesn't do anything.
    *#7780# - Soft reset
Apps\Music\music library (276 songs)... Go in "Repairing corrupted library....."
2 seconds later "Search complete 0 file(s) added"
All albums there, still no volume control.
    Okay, that enough... No more...
Hopefully that is enough to give Nokia a clue as to what is wrong, and may I just make a slight suggestion.
TEST WITH MORE THAN HALF A DOZEN TRACKS YOU **^(*&)(*)(*(*£$%^*(#!
I'm off to buy a 7lb club hammer.

Last night I had a thought...
I wondered if the N97's Music player was getting upset when scanning my music because I had the jpg of the album cover in the folder with it (I tend to do that). As I hadn't bothered reloading any music since my last hard reset I thought I would give it a try.
I removed all non-mp3 files from my music folders.
Connected N97 in PC Suite mode
Started Nokia Music PC app and transferred one album. Let it finish, closed the PC Nokia Music app, gave it a few seconds to settle, disconnected the N97 and had a look.
It appeared in the music player and worked.
Ooooh, right, in for a penny, in for a pound as they say... I connected it back up and sent over another 6 albums. Again closed the Nokia Music app... Waited a few seconds and disconnected the N97.
Went and had a look... "Library corrupt, scanning.... blah blah"... Oh dear, here we go again. But no, a progress bar actually appeared, and after a minute it said "0 file(s) added", but they were all there. All the album art appeared (I'd already embedded that in the mp3 files days ago). All the albums, all the music.
They played, and the volume worked!
Yay! Thinks me... Solved... And goes to bed a happy man.
I set my alarm (on the phone) for the morning and turn the phone off so nobody can phone me before my alarm (which really screws up my sleep!).
This morning the alarm goes off.
I hit stop. It asks if I want to turn the phone on, I say yes.
It asks for my lock code (which I have enabled). I enter it. It says code correct.
Flash of white on the screen... and it asks for my lock code again, which I enter... It says correct again.
This time I get the Nokia tune.
It comes up to the normal front screen, jumps itself onto the application screen, throws up a system error and reboots.
It comes back up (without asking for a pin) and this time settles at the front screen looking for all the world like a working phone... A text message arrives to prove at least that's working.
Hmmm... I wonder about my music...
Well it's all there... But guess what... Volume control doesn't work again!
Oh and clicking "Podcasts", of which I have zero, still produces, and has always produced (even straight after a hard reset), the message "Out of memory, please remove something"... Pressing it again produces "System Error". After that nothing in the Music Library menu works, all produce "System Error". You have to close it and restart to get anything in Music Library to "work".
I wouldn't say I am short of memory. DeviceInfo (from moubail.com) Shows
    C: 32.68 MB free
    E: 30116.46 MB free
    F: (8Gig card) 7120.86 MB free
    RAM: 48.83 MB free.
I keep my C: drive clear of everything. Even my text message storage has been switched to E: (not that I have may since all the hard/soft reboots. Most of them are the "Welcome to nokia" message. Anything that gives me the option to install to another "drive" gets put onto E:
I haven't installed any of the 3 files offered in since the hard reset "SW Update", N-Gage, Nokia Messaging or Ovi Contacts.

  • Looking for a decent music player

I know there is a lot of similar topics on forum, but no one did not respond to my question.
So far I have tried Exaile, Rhytmbox, Pragha, Decibel, Goggles, ... and so on.
They are all good players but have some critical flaws.
Exaile is maybe the best of them, but it is slow with large collections.
Pragha is fast and light but does not support pulse and multimedia keys wont work with it.
Decibel is next best thing after Exaile.
Goggles is fast, but ugly, media keys wont work, no pulse support and its GUI is confusing.
I have even tried mpd + GUI, but such option is just too complicated to setup for simple music player.
Okay, this is my personal opinion. What do you think?
I just need player with ease of use of Exaile but faster with large music collections.

I'd suggest you buy a faster computer with lots of memory and keep using exaile.
    Regarding GMM:
    1) media keys: we try to grab the usual XF86AudioPlay multimedia keys. If they don't work, it usually means they're already grabbed by some other application or desktop environment (I noticed this with gnome on a ubuntu installation). In case of the desktop environment, remove the default keybindings for those specific keys. Another case it might fail if the multimedia keys don't have the usual XF86Audio* keycode assigned to them.
    2) For pulse support you need a pulseaudio plugin for xine. Either file a bugreport with Arch to enable the building of the plugin, or create your own custom xine package.
    3) I'm always happy to hear suggestions to make the GUI less confusing.

  • Looking for a good music player app

    Hi.
I have a problem. i'm looking for a good music player app for my new iphone (which i will buy my next month) in terms of playing music. after having 3 phones in the last 9 months i'm still unhappy.
Had a Samsung Galaxy Ace. sound was above average but due to underpowered processor + RAM (and Samsung stating they won't update the software anymore) i had to sell it.
Than had a Sony Ericcson Xperia Neo but felt the sound was "flat" and bland" and left me disappointed and uninspired coming from a well-known phone maker know for its audio & visual expertise.
Now, i currently have the HTC Desire S. umm although the sound was "Ok" with its usual pre-set equalizers (common among Android phones) and SRS sound enhancement it felt me wanting more and although i have the phone for a week now i would say "so far-so good."
but i heard the best music phones out there are those with either Beats Audio (which are very brand new) or the ones with Dolby Mobile.
had an iPod touch (4th-gen) and i was amazed and impressed by the sound quality.
so, if i can get away with a good music player app that recreates surround sound, has good preset EQ's along with customisable ones and one with Dolby-like support which app would you recommend?
    Thank you.

Stock lock screen does not normally support 3rd party widgets so you wont find any third party players that allows you access while on lock screen..  As for the player I perfer Meridian Media Player Revolute from https://market.android.com/details?id=org.iii.romulus.meridian&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5paWkucm9tdWx1cy5tZXJpZGlhbiJd
