Best Mac compatible cell phone/PDA?

I'm in the market for a new cell phone/PDA and I need some help. I'm currently considering the Treo 700P because of it's smooth, trouble-free integration with the Mac OS using The Missing Sync (http://www.markspace.com/).
It seems like the Treo 700P will do everything I need it to except for allowing me to check and send emails while on the road. Although this is possible with EVDO, I think my carrier, Verizon Wireless, charges about $25 per month for this service, which makes it way too expensive for the small amount of time I'll be using that feature.
Another solution is a device with WiFi capabilities, which will allow me to check and send emails at various hot spots, like hotels. I know that you can add WiFi capability to the 700W, but I've heard that the Windows OS doesn't play very nicely with Macs.
To recap, here's what I need in a cell phone/PDA solution.
1. Dependable
2. Mac compatible
3. Able to integrate with Mail and Address Book
4. Will allow me to check and send emails cost effectively
Given these parameters, what do you recommend?
Thanks,
Kelly

I have a Treo 700p and I love it. I have had it since early September. I sync it with three Macs and it integrates nicely with iCal, Address book, etc. I use Missing Sync to sync. You can get Missing Sync at http://www.markspace.com
I can't claim the 700p is the best smart phone for use with the Mac because its the only one I have tried, but it works well for me.

What is the best mac compatible digital frame?

For a high quality portable audio recorder, I've been very happy with the Olympus LS-10, but it is more expensive that the ordinary voice recorder, on the order of $250USD. If you want quality, this has it. I am disappointed at the sound quality of the voice recorders I have tried. It's stereo, about the size of a pack of cigarettes (if anybody remembers that). The built-in microphones are not perfect for music (reduced bass and boosted highs), but are excellent for voice. The device records about 10 hours continuously on 2 AA batteries. It has tiny speakers and earphone jack, and an iPod-easy menu system. It requires no software to transfer files. You connect the USB cable to the Mac, and the recorder shows up on the desktop for you to move whatever files you wish. You can record in WAV, MP3 or WMA formats at several bit depths and sample rates to balance quality with file size.
There are many competing products (Sony, Tascam, Marantz, others) that have some similar characteristics, but I have no experience with them - except some Zoom products I tried were poor.

  • What is the best Mac-compatible Alternative to Quicken and why?

I made the jump to Apple desktops when my PC went on the fritz.  I was using Quicken 2013,  mostly for tracking accounts and forecasting spending, but not the higher end stuff like paying bills, tracking investments, etc.
I wanted to ask the group if anyone has experience with a Mac-compatible alternative to Quicken, especially one that imports Quicken qif files.  I'd also like to know what features you like best about said alternative.
(My entry may be a bit vague, so if you need more info to post a response, please ask.)

  • Best home/office cell phone signal booster

Can anyone recommend a cell phone signal booster for the 4/4S?

Sure.  If it's for a car, that's easy. If it's for a home or office, answer the following:
What carrier or carriers do you need to support?
Over how large of an area do you need to boost the signal?  One floor or multiple stories?
How strong is the signal strength outside of your home/office (Ideally on the roof where you'd need to mount the outside antenna)?
With that information, it's possible to figure out what signal booster would be best for you.

  • What's the best mac-compatible memory stick?

The 2Gb memory stick I've just bought won't store files that have a forward slash in the title, which means me changing hundreds of file names before I can use it. Is this standard or is there a more compatible stick that I can use?

Hi, SCWP, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your inability to use a "/" in filenames has nothing at all to do with the RAM module you've installed. Quoting from Mac OS Help:
You cannot use a colon (:) in the name of files and folders. Mac OS X uses this character to separate folders in pathnames.
In addition, some applications may not allow you to use slashes (/) in the names of items.
I suspect the applications that don't allow slashes in filenames are probably ones that write their files in cross-platform formats, so that a Microsoft Windows-based version of the application can open them directly. The slash and many other characters are illegal in Windows filenames, so it's best to avoid them on a Mac when naming files that may be shared with Windows users. Here are the characters Windows doesn't allow:
    [ ] / \ = + ; : " , | *
Note that you've posted your question in a Titanium Powerbook G4 forum, and no Titanium Powerbook can use any 2GB memory module (Tibooks are limited to a maximum of 1GB of RAM, in two 512MB modules.) I don't know what Mac model you have, but in future you may get help faster by posting your questions in the most appropriate forum(s). • What is the best Mac Compatible wireless router?

    Hi,
I currently use a D-Link Dsl 300T Modem plugged directly into the computer. I used to use it with the airport express, but that went pop and stopped working a few months ago. I'm moving house and will need to set up a wireless network that several computers will be running off. (I used to have problems with the D-link modem when I ran several computers off it before) So could I just by a wireless router with a modem combined instead of buying a new modem and an airport express again? What are the best non Apple wireless routers out there?
    Many Thanks
    Rob

  • Best MAC compatible NAS device?

    Hey.
I am looking for a NAS device to use with my iMac and MacBook. Therefore, I was wondering if anybody knows if any of the NAS manufacturers such as NetGear, Synology, QNAP etc. has specialized in Mac compatibility?
If so, which NAS device would you recommend? I am looking for a NAS device with 2 bays for drives.
    Thank you for your help
    Best regards,
    Jesper Pedersen

From my brief experience with Synology, I would like to elaborate on something Laplace noted.
Synology is not Mac-friendly. It is the antithesis of Mac-friendly if only for one reason:
    The ext4 file system.
The ext4 file system disallows particular file name character combinations to the extent that many files on an HFS+ file system (i.e. Mac's) simply cannot be transferred onto the device.
Including, but not limited to, ANY invisible Mac file. Or any file with an underscore at the beginning. And the list goes on.
Why custom partitioning is not allowed is a mystery to me. If there is no way around the issue, it's a bad system for Macs, period. Anyone who tells you otherwise probably doesn't use NAS for network file storage and sharing, which is supposed to be any NAS's main job.
In summary, Synology and Mac, as they currently stand, do not mix well.
Not to mention, file names with underscores at the beginning, etc., are not too uncommon on NTFS file sytems either (i.e. Windows'). So Windows users should keep an eye out as well.

  • Best mac compatible mouse for photoediting?

I am new to photoediting and just purchased Lightroom 5. I own a MacBook Pro and am wondering if those of you who have tried different mouses over the years have a favorite one best suited for editing. I am not a professional, just an enthusiastic beginner.
    Thanks!

I don't think any particular mouse is better than another for photo editing. You probably want a two button mouse with a scroll wheel but this is the basic mouse anyway. Some people like more buttons to attach keyboard shortcuts and the like but it's never seemed worth it to me. Go cheap and simple is my recommendation.

  • Mac Cell Phone In the Works?

I saw on a cable show awhile ago on G4TV that Mac was in the works of developing a MAC/iPod cell phone. Then the other day on CNBC there was a report that Mac is in development and looks to release the "MacPhone" in 2007. The reporter said there was no word of iTunes comapatibility or what service will offer these phone. The reporter also said that there was no word if these phones will be available for any provider or if Apple will offer a phone service. Unfortunately, the reporter said there was no price announced. However, they also released a photo of what appeared to be the actual phone. I have not been able to find any other reports online or any photos of this new Mac product. Does anyone know where I can find the photo or specification information?
    Sounds great nice move Apple!

    "Mean spirited"? In what way?
I told you that Apple have not announced any such phone - which is true. Everything you have heard is speculation and rumour - not fact (yet).
I also gave you a helpful tip on how to find dozens of pages on other sites with speculative information on the subject of your post, that you may like to read.
Finally, we both notified you that the subject of your post is, in fact, against the terms of the 'Apple Discussions Use Agreement". Verify it here where you can scroll down to 2. Submissions and see where it says:

Sorry if that's not what you wanted.

  • Is Palm Zire 21 Software compatible with Palm Pre Plus Cell Phone?

I have an older Palm Zire 21. I love all the features. However, now I am trying to consolidate my Windows (vista) Calendar with my Palm and it is not compatible. I thought I would purchase the newer Palm Pre plus Cell Phone in order to have all of my contacts and calendars on my phone as well as my laptop. Though no one can seem to answer my question: Can I import my contact and calendar from my Zire 21 to the Palm Pre Plus?
Many thanks to who can answer this for me. I greatly appreciate your time and assistant.

webOS (the new Operating System) from Palm does not natively sync to your computer, but to the "cloud" (online servers).
Palm offers a program that will read your Palm Desktop information, and transfer it to Google.  This is only a one-time transfer, and not a sync solution.  See this thread.

  • My MacBook Pro does not recognize my Android Incredible 2 cell phone and I can not transfer my photos from my cell phoen to my Mac. I was able to do this in the past, but can no longer do so. i havenot upgraded to any new software.

My MacBook Pro does not recognize my Android Incrdible 2 cell phone and therefore I can not transfer any photos from my cell phone to my Mac. I was able to do this in the past, but can not do so now. I have not upgraded to any new software. My USB cable is plugged in properly and I just get an error message -- "No Android Device Found". What could be the problem?

I had the same issue with the Galaxy S4 trying to see what the hype was about and was my first and last android phone. With that being said unfortunately it is a hit or miss with the Mac recognizing an android device or not.  It worked perfectly fine the first time around and then it stopped working for no apparent reason. Through trial and error nothing I did solved the issue.   I did however plug it in my Mac and left it connected for about 30-40 min to charge for a bit and all of the sudden it recognizes the phone. So I just launched Android File Transfer and everything else became fluid after that.    I have no explanation as to why it happened that way, but what I gathered from this is maybe you just have to let it sit for a minute while plugged in before the Mac recognizes it, after all they are opposing software.  On a side note this is why I will always be an apple user, Iphones and the like never have this problem
