Best method of 'Importing" a HD movie?

There seem to be various suggestions as to the best way of transferring AVCHD video files from camera to PE9
I connect my Sony camera via USB2 to the computer and it looks exactly like another hard drive in Windows Explorer.
The camera files all have MTS extensions. They are 1920x1080i AVCHD files according to Sony and even play in WMA direct from the camera.
I then simply copy them to a hard drive folder using Window Explorer. I dont use any special import program.
To use them in PE9, I "Get Media from files" in the Hard Disk in the usual way.
I notice when getting them, PE9 does a little Comforming routine for a few seconds on each file clip. Is it changing them in any way? No red lines show.
They all preview and edit OK
Is this the best way and have I really imported best quality AVCHD files or are they now something else?
When I used the Sony downloading program they ended up m2ts extensions instead of mts but they look the same to me.

When AV files are Imported into PrE, they are Conformed, creating CFA files (for Audio) for editing, PEK files for Waveform Display, and with MPEG files, they are also Indexed. This process is necessary, and is explained in this ARTICLE. One should let the Conforming complete 100%, before using those files, or there can be truncation with the CFA and PEK files, resulting in only partial Audio. On weaker systems, if one does anything, during this process, it can crash the system, or PrE. I just Import, and sit back with a cup of coffee, until everything is complete. In most cases, this takes but just a moment.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Best Method For Importing Clips Between FCP Projects

What is the best method for importing clips between FCP 7.0.3 projects?  I am wondering whether or not pulling the clips from the Capture Scratch folder is the way to go or will using Import from the new FCP project create a new folder in Capture Scratch with the imported clips?  I have a new HD camcorder with different clips for different projects and Log and Transfer makes it so easy to bring them all in at once but now wondering how best to separate them into separate Capture Scratch folders for each project.

well, I simply either drag them in to the new/different project from the finder, or drag or copy and paste between open fcp projects.  Never had any problems working this way.  Just remember that if you delete a specific project scratch disk folder, you may be deleting media used in another project.

  • Best method of importing from external drive?

I have a 1T LaCie and want to know the best method to get those images into LR. The defaults are: "Add" and "NewPhotos" to "MyCatalog"
I think I may have more than one catalog and am not certain how to combine them. Is it best practice to have only one catalog?

  • Best methods for importing artwork via Illustrator with tranparency?

I'm new to Final Cut Pro and am tryin to figure out the best methods for importing artwork via Illustrator. So far, I've been saving the artwork as a transparent PNG, but I feel like there should be a better way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi:
Ussually I have to rebuild in AI the company logo (I use to work for industries) to include in FCP edit.
    - If you have CS2, open Photoshop and create a new file using the right preset (i.e. DV PAL) using transparent background. That creates a PSD empty file with all attributes you need (pixels dimensions and aspect ratio) to use later in FCP.
    - Select your work (i.e. the final logo) in the AI canvas and copy it.
    - Paste it in the empty PSD file as "vextor information" (I don't remember right now the exact words!). That way you can resize it in the PSD file without loosing quality.
    - The better ir deciding the size NOW in Photoshop, or create sveral version in different sizes. Yuo'll get better quality id you make the resizings in Photoshop rather that doing a scale in FCP timeline.
    - Once your logo is in the right dimension into the PSD file, save a copy and flatten all layers keeping the transparent background. If you don't need the layers during editing in FCP, you better have all layers flattened.
    - Import that file in FCP.
That's my workflow, but probably you'll find different flavors here!

  • What is the best method to import my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new iMac [27"]?

What is the best method to import my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new iMac [27"]?

You can copy your iPhoto Library to an external hard disk, USB flash drive, or other media (depending on the size of your iPhoto library). Then, you'd copy the iPhoto Library from that media to the same location on your iMac.
Using the Finder, navigate to your Home folder (or click on Go from the menu bar and click on Home). Open the Pictures folder, select your iPhoto Library and then from the menu bar choose "Edit" and then "Copy". Then navigate to your external disk, click on "Edit", and then click on "Paste".
Then, insert your media on the iMac, and copy the iPhoto Library from your external media to the same location on your iMac (the Pictures folder located under your Home folder).
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • Best Method Of Import For Future Preservation

I would like to import all my home movies through iMovie to an external hard drive, but am wondering if that is the best method to ensure that I will always be able to use/access them in the years to come. A couple of questions:
**Does iMovie still preserve and save to the external drive the original format the movie was recorded in? Does it switch it to something that only iMovie can recognize and find?
**What if iMovie quits being made in 10 years or if I switch to a different editing program down the road? Will I still be able to use/access my movies?
**Would it be better to skip going through iMovie and just copy the movies/files directly to the external drive?
Thank you for any info you can give me.

in iMHD≤6: yes, even after editing, the unaltered original video is kept untouched; in iM08 answer is more complicated: the Events store the original data, but it is unable to export without altering it.. And: mpeg2 and AVCHD files get automatically converted.. but into a lossless codec ..
Does it switch it to something that only iMovie can recognize and find?
the .mov digged deep into the file structure of iM (in iMHD6: in the project packages; in iM08: in the Events Folder) are playable without iM..
.. What if iMovie quits being made in 10 years or if I switch to a different editing program down the road? Will I still be able to use/access my movies?
very hard to tell; my experience: cross-app/cross-platform, accessability is .. small. compare with 'opening iMHD6 project with iM08' , or 'transfer iM08 to FCE' .... and those are actual apps from one manufacturer..
.. Would it be better to skip going through iMovie and just copy the movies/files directly to the external drive?
that's why I'm in the process of decision making come back to tape (HDV) - I'm storing about an terabyte of my son's life on video in a simple shoebox.. no copying, backup, no transfer.. as long as I get some service which is able to playback that worlwide standard, I can watch and use those videos..
I often tell that situation: me being on Cuba, running out of 'storage space' ... 7$ and got a new tape, 60min.. imagine that with a fancy HDDcorder.. you need additionally in your travel luggage your Mac, power brick, prob. an ext. harddrive, just for 'emtpying' your camcorder .. honestly: not on MY vacations/my hotel rooms, tents.. ..
and don't tell me '17h recording time' .. IF HiDef camcorder, than FullHD.. which is actually a max. of 3h per device.. and I do record more than 3h on a 2 weeks journey..

  • Best method for importing AVCHD

Another AVCHD question. Which method would give the best quality?
    1) Import AVCHD via FCP log and capture using Pro res.
    2) Import via HDMI using Blackmagic Intenisty card.
Thanks in advance. I've found a lot of good info so far by reading older posts.

Much of a muchness really ... do you intend to work in ProRes?
Log and Transfer will access the RAW data, decompress it in software and the recompress to ProRes, whereas Log and Capture will access an the uncompressed data as provided from the camera via the Intensity card and then compress that to whatever you've chosen.
If you want to work in ProRes (or AIC) then you may see faster than realtime ingest using Log and Transfer, but if you want to work in DVCProHD or other then you'd want to use Log and Capture.

  • I have a huge amount of songs on my Mac in files that aren't in iTunes.  what is the best method to import them all into iTunes easily?

When I got my 1st MacBook Pro I was coming to the Mac world from a PC.  When importing all the files from my PC to Mac the files got scattered bad, and now I am faced with the dubious task of getting my music library all into iTunes so I can organize and then burn them or sync to our iPads and iPhones.  Can anybody lend a hanf on how to complete this enormous task efficiently?  All assistance is very much appreciated.

Drag and drop the files form the Finder into iTunes. Another way is to select 'Add to Library' from the iTunes file menu - then follow the dialog to locate the files you want to add.
Before doing that - go to iTunes prefs>Advanced - enable the copy and keep options. iTunes will do all the heavy work for you.
Once the tunes are added to the iTunes Library then you can delete the files from their original location.

  • Best Method for Importing and Exporting Data to a local 'resrouce'  file

I've searched the forum, and seen glimmers of hope to what I am trying to piece together - but not in a concise way that will sink into my brain.
Using Javascript on a PC for IDCS2, I'm writing a simple script that has a user interface.
I'd like to have 4 default values for the user interface to be read from (and if altered, written to) a text file.
What's the simplest way to go about this? I've read through many posts, and toyed around with readln and writeln functions, but nothing is working out. For some reason, I can't send any information to any file - let alone read it back in.
Could somebody point me in the right direction? For simplicity sake let's say I have just one variable, "myVariable" - and I want to send it to and read it from c:\test.txt.
Someday - this will all sink in. Right now, I'm reaching for Aspirin.

    Hi D Scott Chinn,
    Try something like this:
var myFile = File.saveDialog ("Save file as:")
    if(myFile != undefined){
var myString = "Write this string to a file."
    myFile.open("w");
    myFile.write(myString);
    myFile.close();
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Importing H.264 movie clips

I have taken a lot of 1060p movie clips on my Canon 60D.  They imported directly into iPhoto.  I want to now make a movie.
I am not sure which is the best method of importing them into FCE4.  I can drag and drop them from iPhoto Events into the Browser, or I can export from iPhoto to MPEG Streamclip and export as a QT movie which can then be imported into the browser.  Or I wonder if I would get better quality if I used log and transfer directly from the SD card in the camera?  Can anyone advise please?  Thank you.  Keith

Thank you Al and David.  I looked at this information carefully. I have set up a new preset for loading in MPEGStreamclip using AIC, dropped in a movie clip from iPhoto, made a movie and then imported that into the browser in FCE.  I was able to place that on the timeline without the need for rendering. This seems to be the best procedure for my particluar project.  Am I correct?  Thank you for your advice.  Keith

    Hello:
You pretty much have it right. Here's what I do to move applications between APEX installations.
    1) Export/Import Workspaces
    2) Export/Import Applications for each workspace. (I retain the source application id in the target)
    3) Export/Import Workspace Images/Files etc
    4) Use Oracle exp/imp , Oracle DataPump or plain old sqlplus scripts to move database objects from source to target.

  • Best Method To Organize (move) Messages (many Mailboxes to one)

I'm working on reorganizing my Mail messages from unique Mailboxes for certain topics (or senders) to having my messages in Mailboxes by year. Then use Smart Mailboxes to view what I need.
Before I start moving around a lot of messages, I want to make sure what I'm doing will work and not cause any unforeseen side effects.
Right now, I have many (20 or more) Mailboxes that I use to organize all the mail I get. What I want to do is move all my messages from last year (2013) into one new Mailbox.
    Here's the method I thought I'd use:
    Create a Smart Mailbox > Date Range > 1/1/2013 to 12/31/2013
That should effectively show me all mail messages received last year.
Create a new Mailbox called Mail 2013
Drag all the messages in the above Smart Mailbox into Mail 2013.
My understanding is that this will move all the messages I received in 2013 (which are currently sitting in many different Mailboxes on my Mac) into the newly created Mail 2013 Mailbox. The Smart Mailbox (with the 2013 date range) will still show all the same messages, since it doesn't matter where the messages are located.
    Am I correct?
Is this the best method for doing this? Moving messages from many Mailboxes into a few Mailboxes that contain any and all messages within a specific date range.

    Hi;
My first question is your ASM cant be mount to your new box? If answer yes than Just create same path, same hostname&Ip for new server(Unplog your existing server cable) than just open your new server and open db.
You may also go wiht RMAN(Even you go wiht clone process you need to use RMAN due to do usage of ASM)

  • Best method to move "previous system-users" to the new user folder

I was doing an Archive and Install of a current 10.5.8 system because of problems with the "usr" folder showing in the root listing of the hd folders while booted from this same hd. I knew that wasn't a good sign.
Anyway, it failed saying that the previous Users could not be moved into the new OS's User folder and they would be placed in the "Previous System" folder.
I have updated the newly installed OS to the latest Apple updates.
Now I'm wondering what is the best method to get the User folders (with lots of data) from the Previous Users folder into the new Users folder so that all the data is recognized.
    Thanks in advance!

Just drag contents of the previous Home folder to their respective locations in the new Home folder.
Do not simply drag the entire Home folder into the new /Users/ folder. Just the content of the old Home folder, i.e., Documents, Downloads, etc. The system may prevent you from replacing some folders, so you will need to move the contents of those folders.
Oh, and see this: How to get files from a previous home directory after Archive and Install.
