Best method to copy slide audio to new project ?
Captivate v5.5
I have a project made up of multiple slides.
Each slide has its own audio.
I need to update the project (resize and update slide images) but the audio does not need to be changed.
Rather than record the narration for each slide again, I am planning to copy the audio of each slide from the old project (export) to the new project (import). Audio of slide 1 of old project gets attached to slide 1 of new project etc.
Any suggestions as to the best way to do this bearing in mind I have multiple slides each with their own audio and I need to ensure I attach the right audio file to the new version of the slide it was copied from.
Thanks in advance,
Noel
Hi Noel,
Can only explain what would be my method in that case. All audio clips will be found in the library, but they have a not very descriptive name. I would identify them and change the name (if they have to go to the same slide number, just put the slide number in it). Then in the new project I would open the old as an external Library (File, import, external library) and drag the audio clips to the proper slides. External libraries are so little known, but I use them all the time (have a set of often used assets in separate project files that I only use as external libraries)

PS just did see the official answer from the staff, but please, rename your clips there as well or you will not be able to identify them. In the original file you can look for the clip in the Library from each slide

CS4 Copy and paste to new Project
When I copy (or cut) and paste an audio clip to a new project timeline the sound is fine but after I save the project I see the video and the sound file but no sound. The sound file still plays in Soundbooth but not on the project timeline. I tried rendering the clip but no lucki. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
These are the files properties:
File Path: C:\Heritage\Aftergut\Movie\Untitled Clip 02 Audio Extracted_1
Type: Windows WAVE audio file
File Size: 514.2 MB
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00:46:48:19468
Average Data Rate: 187 KB / secondHi Bill,
I haven't remapped the keyboard. In the CS4 (which I am using) help shows "M" as the key for Match Frame. Also I am targetingthe audio track and moving the CTI over it and pressing "M" as you suggest but no luck.
I guess I will just have to find another work method to complete my project but I really thank you for your efforts on my behalf

Subject: CS4 Copy and paste to new Project
Stanely,
One thought - have you remapped your keyboard?
Also, and a CS5 user will have to step in here, it could be that Match Frame has changed. It did between PrPro 2.0 and CS3/CS4, so it is possible. In the CS5 Help file, what is shown for the keystroke?
Last, are you Targeting your Audio Track, Selecting the Audio, moving the CTI over it, and then pressing M?
Just thinking there, and good luck,

Replace SUP1A with SUP2 - Best method to copy configs
I need to replace a couple of SUP1As with SUP2s and could use some advice on the best method to proceed. From what I have read here and elsewhere, it seems the best method is to stage a SUP2 in a spare chassis and apply the configs beforehand. Then, the migration would simply consist of swapping SUPs. I would like to know if this is the best course of action. Also, as to copy configs, would it be preferable to copy the configs to a flash card in my test SUP2 and then just insert that flash card into my new production SUP2. Or, is it better just to use the actual SUP2 I built in the lab. Is there a difference?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Thanks for the reply. I plan on using a spare chassis, but would really like to know if it is possible to go the flash card route in lieu of tftp. With TFTP I would need an ethernet connection; further, I would be transferring config to bootflash and, thus, have to swap card for card. Is it possible to build SUP2 in lab with new config, copy config to disk0: (flash card) and then just send that flash card to campus site where they can insert into new SUP2 and copy from disk0: to bootflash?
Thanks again! -
Captivate 7 saved project randomly does not play slide audio in preview project.
I created a training project with over 100 slides. Each slide has an audio track that I recorded, When I preview each slide it sounds fine. When you preview the entire project, some slides randomly do not play the audio track. Try it again and other slides randomly don't play. How can I fix this and prevent it from happening?
I concur, but do not have the device with me today, and was wondering if this is a common discrepancy. Has anyone tested Captivate output with slide audio into DPS? Does it work?

Setting up Audio in New Project
Hello:
I am fairly new to CS3 with a lack of understanding for audio channels. I shot a two person interview the other day with each person miked with a lav. Each lav was recorded on a separate track. I set up a new project in CS3, 720p 30fps, audio – stereo. I imported the clips and starting bringing the HD clips into the timeline. What I see is one video track and one audio track. I expected to see 2 audio tracks because there were two lavs. Well, I decided to start another project and try again. This time, I set the audio as mono, imported the clips and when I bring them onto the timeline, the video and both tracks of audio appear on Track 4 and 5 (which I assume is reserved for mono). So I am confused. Why do I have to create a mono project in order to see both tracks? Perhaps I doing something wrong. Can you please walk me through how I set up a project when I am working with footage that has two channels of audio recorded on it.
Thanks, SteveAnn and Jim are both correct. Leave the Project's Master set to stereo/2-channel, as that will be the most common for Export formats (DD 5.1 SS being the second, but that takes a DD 5.1 SS Encoder to produce).
The 2-channel Audio files can be split in PrPro easily, or you could also do that in Soundbooth, Audition, or even the free Audacity.
Though it does not directly apply to your question here, this ARTICLE might make for good reference, regarding Audio in PrPro, Audio Tracks and channel-count.
Good luck,

Copy clip markers to new project?
I have a project file that was used by the director to make descriptive markers on clips. it references identical media and it was just a basic project file dupe for the director to use. i'd like to copy the markers in his project and add those to my markers on the clips in my master project. copy/paste just makes a subclip icon in my browser and defeats the purpose of it being a marker. is there an effective way to do this?
thanks,
ryanNot that I know of Ryan, but could you simply copy his clips to your project file?

Best method for copying database
I am building a new production database and was mulling over the 'best' (read: easiest) way to move / copy the database onto the new production server. I have exports and full RMAN backups from the production database. TIA.
Hi ,
Use the full automated procedure procedure called 'Clone Database' via Enterprise Manager.
Here is the overview of this tool:
Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
-- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
-- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
-- A saved working directory from previous cloning
Clone Database performs the following operations:
-- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
-- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
-- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
-- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
-- Open the cloned database with resetlogsRegards,

After copying the audio from one project to another, there is only silence?
I am working in Adobe Premiere CS4. Because of an error with one of my projects, I wound up just copying all the video as well as the audio (which has a bunch of fadeouts/intricate splices) to another project. When I try to play the audio in the timeline, however, there is just silence. The video is just fine, though, besides things like scaling being off, which I've accepted that I will have to re-do manually. But does anyone have any ideas as to why the audio is just not playing at all? Thanks.
Select one of the silent clips and then park the playhead over it. Perform a Match Frame operation by pressing the M key. That should bring your audio back.

What is the best way to copy 700 local folders full of email to a new computer?
I am moving my wife from and old computer (Thunderbird, Win XP) to a new one (Thunderbird Win 7). She has about 700 local folders with thousands of email messages in them. What is the best way to copy them to the new computer?
The easiest way is just copy the whole profile.
Help menu > troubleshooting information
Close Thunderbird
In windows explorer select all and copy.
paste everything onto a thumb or other read/write portable media (not CD or DVD)
on the new Machine repeat the troubleshooting and close steps to get the current profile folder
This time paste everything from the portable media into the profile replacing what is there
Open Thunderbird, your done mail contacts add-ons everything -
Copy/paste clips from a library/project to another copying media on the new library
I want to copy/paste some clips from a project timeline to another but COPYING MEDIA also on the second library/project. How can I do?
I'm in the project "Anima mia" (which is together with an event in a library: all with the same name "Anima mia"). I want to pick up FROM THE TIMELINE some audio clips (which are the edited part of bigger clips placed in the browser) and some video clips (which are the edited part of bigger clips placed in the browser) and copy them on a new Project called "Riferimento" (which is with an event inside a library: all with the same name "Riferimento"), and I want to copy also the concerning original files to the new library. But I can't, infact if I copy/paste these clips in the new project/library I get this
I'd like to choose if leaving the original media in the source library or if phisical copying them to the new library. But it doesn't seems possible here....

How To Copy Slides without Losing Object Properties
Because I was working in a corrupt file, I had to copy and paste my slides into a new project.
After doing this, I see that my click boxes, captions, and other objects lose their properties (including Item Name, "On Success: Show" instructions, timing, etc.)
Is there any way to copy and paste slides into a new project without losing this critical piece of each slide?!
Many thanks,
NatalieI had a similar problem when I first started using Captivate. I was able to copy the objects while maintaining the properties by exporting all
objects from the corrupt source files to a new project.
Hope this helps. -
Best way to copy files to server via UNIX?
Hi there!
I need to write a script for my clients to copy files to a server. What is the best method to copy a lot files to a server? I want this all handled through a UNIX tunnel.
Thank you!spraguga wrote:
Sorry about all this as I am very unfamiliar with ssh keys. I was trying to do this in the terminal maybe I should be doing it via ARD. Currently all Clients have ARD access and SSH access active in System Preferences/Sharing. Evey client machine is authenticated with the same admin account that I use with ARD.
So should I be doing the following:
Run this on every Client machines via ARD UNIX command to create the key:
ssh-keygen -t dsa -f ~/.ssh/id_dsa -N ''
And then run this on every Client machines via ARD UNIX command to update the servers authorized_key file:
cat ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub | ssh user@host 'cat - >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys'
Is that it, am I missing anything?
I'm not familiar with ARD so I can't comment on that part. I can tell you that there is no need to create the keys on the clients. You can create all the keys for all the clients on a single machine - your machine. Instead of naming them "id_dsa", use something like "~/Documents/client_ssh_keys/client1". Write a script to go through and build them all in one swell foop. Then you can copy them all to the server's authorized_keys file.
You will have to copy the client1 and client1.pub files into .ssh/id_dsa and .ssh/id_dsa.pub on each client machine. It would also be a good idea to update the .ssh/known_hosts file on each client machine with the entry for the server. You can get this from your own known_hosts file. As long as you are on the client, copy your own public key into authorized_keys.
At this point, you can log in to every client machine and do so in a script, without a password. Each client can log in to the server without a password and run scripts.
Also what if the machine is logged in by another Client. Then this will not work, correct? Can I set it up so anyone who is logged into any Client machine can ssh in to the server. Would I just change the id_dsa location to root or top level of the server and client startup volumes?
SSH is an independent communication channel. No one needs to be logged in on any machine.
You can use the "-i" option on SSH to use a specific set of keys for communicating with a server. Sharing keys like that would be a significant security hole. You would definitely want to use a passphrase in that case. -
Captivate 7 - Copying slides with Advanced Actions
Hello,
I have a number of slides that I want to copy and paste into a new project. Many of these slides have click to display type advanced interactions. When I copy and paste the slides into a new project, the advanced interactions don't seem to copy over. Does anybody know how to copy and paste slides into a new project along with the advanced interactions so that I don't have to recreate variables and interactions? I tried following Adobe Captivate Help, but got lost.
Thanks!Rod, you're a lifesaver! I figured out the update part and the advanced actions look like they all work. You just saved me about a thousands hours worth of work. Thanks

Properties of duplicate or copied slides
I have copied slides within the same project but I would like
the properties to be unique to that slide. It seems when I add or
delete an item from the library the change occurs to the copied
slide too. How can I seperate the properties? I have renamed the
slides as well thinking that would eliminate the issue. No
luck.Just curious... why would you want to delete resources from
the Library when they are still in use? The obvious answer to your
problem is simply to not delete anything from the Library unless
the Usage count is zero.
That said, there is no way to "copy" slides uniquely within a
given project.
By copying slides in the same project, your new slides share
all the same objects from the original slides, such as background,
inserted images, and so on. This sharing of resources is by design
to keep the published file size as small as possible.
The fastest option to achieve what you're looking for would
probably be to save a copy of your project, then use File ->
Import to "copy" in the slides you need.
Since the objects are coming from an external project,
Captivate *should* create duplicates of everything.

Importing old project to new project
Hi All-
My client wants a different backgorund/template on the
project that exists now. I decided the easiest way to make this
change might be to open a new project, design the new background
(actually I imported a new background into the new project form
PowerPoint) and then import objects only slide for slide into the
new project. But, the audio doesn't come along. Any suggestions or
do I have tomanually import all the audio again? Or is there a
better way overall to do this? I haven't spent very much time
yet! Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I am having Kernel error problems with my G5 so I am moving files from my external drive to the new iMac rather than trying to fire up my old G5.
I opened the FCE project on my backup drive and saved it to the desktop of my new computer. Obviously, the new computer is trying to find the video files on my new computer and they are not there.
Unfortunately, I have made several long/large movies on my G5 but I have never really understood the exact path of where the video files are stored (documents, data, etc.) and how they are accessed by FCE.
So... can you please explain where I can find the associated media files (from my project on my old G5) and where exactly I should copy them on the new iMac. And can I just "copy" and "paste" from my external drive into the iMac?
Thanks in advance!
