Best Motherboard for Dual Core with AGP?

I'm stuck with a GeForce 6800GT that I don't want to replace. For a new system, what is the best motherboard that will support AMD64 X2 and AGP?
Thanks in advance.

  • Is Logic 8 not optimized for dual core processing duties ?

Running MacBook Pro 2.4 ghz, 2 gig Ram 200 gig HD external eSATA or FW 800. No other apps running.
I am consistently seeing Logic 8 use ALL of the first core and barely tough the other - sometimes freezing up - saying that the CPU(s?) can not handle the audio. Why do I not see the other core "bailing water" for the first core ? Isn't this the purpose of dual core ?. It is like one guy is lifting a 150lb sac and his partner is sitting there eating lunch - and the "team"'s efforts fail.
Is Logic itself not optimized for dual core processing duties ?

I get beachballs just logging in. No apps - then Safari is also very buggy. I have had to "pull the battery out" more times than I would like to recount.
That sounds very suspect, like there is something wrong with the hardware or your OS install. I have a MBP 2.33 and have none of the Logic or other system problems you describe. Have you looked at your System Profiler to make sure both sticks of Ram are being recognized? If one stick is bad and you're only utilizing 1 gig, that would cause slow downs and spiny beachball with Leopard and with Logic. Try running hardware test from your system disks, and also try running Rember, a small app that will run a series of read/write tests on the Ram, incase one stick has a bad sector.
If that comes up with nothing, I'd try setting up a new user, logging in to that user, and seeing if you're having the same slow down problems with Leopard, Safari, Logic, etc. If not, then you have some corrupt files in your User system somewhere. Whether that works or not, the next step would be to back up all of your data and do an Erase and Install.
Finally, if you have specific problems that you can recreate, you could also take the machine to Apple if you still have a warranty, and perhaps they can figure out your performance issues.
    Good Luck!

  • Best practice for sharing data with model window

    Hi team,
what would the best practice for sharing data with a modal
window be ? I use a modal window to display record details from a
record list, but i am not quite sure how to access the data from
the components in the main application in the modal window.
    Any hints would be welcome
    Best
    Frank

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
    I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
    post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
    parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

  • Best practices for apps integration with third party systems ?

    Hi all
I would like to know if there is any document from oracle or from your own regarding best practices for apps integration with third party systems.
For example, in particular, let's say we need customization in a given module(ex:payables) need to provide data to a third party system, consider following:
    outbound interface:
1)should third party system should be given with direct access to oracle database to access a particular payments data information table/view to look for data ?
    2) should oracle create a file to third party system, so that it can read and do what it need to do?
    inbound:
    1) should third party should directly login and insert data into tables which holds response data?
    2) again, should third party create file and oralce apps will pick up for further processing?
again, there could be lot of company specific scenarios like it has to be real time or not... etc...
How does companies make sure third party systems are not directly dipping into other systems (oracle apps/others), so that it will follow certain integration best practices.
how does enterprise architectute will play a role in this? can we apply SOA standards? should use request/reply using Tibco etc?
Many oracle apps implementations customizations are more or less directly interacting with third party systems by including code to login into respective third party systems and vice versa.
Let me your know if you have done differently and that would help oracle apps community.
    thanks
    rrb.

you want to send idoc to third party system (NONSAP).
what kind of system is it? can it handle http requests
    or
    can it handle webservice?
which version of R/3 you are using?
what is the mechanism the receiving system has, to receive data?

    Hi there!
So you got a dual core machine huh?
    Let's narrow down your choices.
The Radeon 2600 and the 3870 are Mac Pro cards. They won't work in the G5.
    Forget the X1300 as well.
The Radeon X1900 is a possible candidate, but it must be the G5 Edition X1900 GT. The one that you linked is for Intel macs (Mac Pro).
In fact, all cards that you linked are not candidates for the G5.
Here are your choices from slower to faster:
    Geforce 6600 256MB
    Geforce 7800GT
    Radeon X1900GT G5 Edition
    Quadro FX 4500
    Geforce 7800 GTX

  • G5 Dual Core with ATI X1900GT - upgrade to FCS2, Tiger or Leopard?

    Hi everyone,
I am little confused what to do. So, maybe somebody can advise me what it would be the best.
    Here is the situation:
I am still using my G5 Dual Core 2.0 with an ATI X1900GT card, 8.5GB RAM and Decklink SP (as below states). I intend to use it till the end of this year, and then to switch to the fastest at that moment Mac Pro. Now, I have 10.4.11 and FCS-1 with almost all filters from Noise Industries. Everything works perfect.
But I would like to upgrade to FCS-2, especially because of Motion3 new features. The questions are:
    1. Stay with Tiger and do the upgrade to FCS-2? And after that how the Motion3 will work? With similar speed? Or better, maybe worse? (I am not afraid about Final Cut - it shouldn't be any problem, but what about Motion?)
    2. Upgrade the system to Leopard, and then upgrade the FCS?
But what about the graphic card drivers? On the Ati/AMD web site there are still (from over a year) drivers for Tiger and not for Leopard. Without the proper drivers it could be a problem to install the FCS. Few months ago, when I was changing the startup disk for WD Raptor, I did the clean system installation and tried to install FCS-1. But I forgotten about installing the ATI drivers. When I tried to install, the FCS shows the info that this computer doesn't have the graphic card which support Quartz Extreme. Of course, after installing those drivers everything works OK.
So, how it could be with Leopard?
    3. Will the all filters (I mean filter from Noise Industries) work fine in Motion and in FCP?
    4. Will the old Motion project open correct in Motion3? I use the old project quite often.
+For those upgrades I can use another (cloned) startup disk to avoid the "dramatic" situation.+
I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
    Marek.

    Thanks for all replies.
It looks that it is not a bad idea to stay with 10.4.11, and upgrade only the FCS.
I will do this on my clone disk, and check if everything works fine.
But, is it possible to install Motion3 (from FCS2 upgrade disks) and leave the Motion2 on the same disk being installed? (I suppose no, but asking just in case)
I checked the specification of the Noise Industries - filters work fine in both system Tiger and Leopard (most of them I am using now, except of those filter which need FCP6 and Motion3), so I think I will stay with Tiger.
Peter, do you know what capabilities exactly I can loose staying with Tiger? Do you use those filters (or some of them)?
    Marek.

  • Best quality for editing fcp with p2 standard definition and canon elura 100 widescreen

I am editing on FCP 7. Three cameras were used. Panasonic HPX 500 set in standard def 4x3, another small panasonic that shoots standard def was used only it was set a 16x9 and an even smaller Canon  NTSC Elura 100 was set on widescreen (16x9). My mistake is I want them look the best they can (at 16x9 or 4x3) when burned to DVD. I would prefer to go with 4x3 and crop the 16x9s. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 ; 2 Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66 gHx and AJA Kona card. The question is: What is the BEST setting for log & capture of each device and what is the BEST sequence setting to build my project on. Right now everything looks like it has a soft shadowy image (basically low quality image - probably because it is mostly low quality... even the HPX 500 looks bad because I expanded it to fit the 16x9 screen of my sequence. And here's a strange event, even though my sequence setting is 720x480 the screen aspect ratio comes out 16x9... go figure. I seem to know less and less about this business every day. If anybody is willing to offer some advice on how I can make Chicken Salad out of this Chicken Shi_, I'd love to hear it. I hope it's just a settings problem on the ingest or sequence side.
    Thanks,

  • 13'' dual-core with 16gb ram vs 15'' quad-core 8gb ram -- ram vs cores?

    Hello.  I am at a point between choosing a 13'' dual-core i5 with 16gb ram vs the 15'' quad-core with 8gb ram - both retinas.
I will be using photoshop and illustrator while uploading/downloading large files constantly.  After much headscratching I almost decided on the 13'' i5 because from my experience, RAM limitations is where I usually run into problems, and don't see the extra price of i7 worth it when it is still a dual-core.  For the same price I can get a 15'' quad, but will be stuck with 8gb ram.
I don't care about the screen size, I have good eyes and the weigth trade-off makes this a non-issue.
I'm thinking about down the road, as either of these I'm sure will be fine solutions.  I'm just wondering where does the edge really come in this case?  Ram or processor / cores?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply tjk, of course with 16gb on the 15'' for $200 more  I'd have easier time, but in this case I am comparing a refurbished - the lowest 15'' 16gb I could find would cost $500 more, I just can't do it.
I should make clear that this particular comparison between 13''w/16 and 15''w/8, they are the same price (the 13 being new) - which is why I'm stuck.
To rephrase - for the same price - which will I regret less in 4 years?
As a side note, I can't believe I'm even thinking about paying this much money for something that is not upgradeable, but that's another discussion entirely.

  • Replacement Motherboard for Dual 1ghz MDD G4

My original motherboard for my G4 is toast.
What replacement Motherboards are compatible with my dual 1ghz
    mdd G4?
The white sticker on board reads: 630T3984/630-4256
    Thanks
    Eric

Ouch, I was hoping it wouldn't be one of those.
I think it has to be the same. My info comes from an Apple document discussing CPU upgrades.
    Wait ... quoted -
    Before Replacing the Processor
    Important:
Apple has determined a compatibility issue between the processor and certain
fabrication levels of the logic board on some Power Mac Server G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors)
and Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) products. Before ordering a replacement
processor for those models, follow these steps:
    1. Open the computer and check the fabrication number that is printed on the logic
board. The fabrication number is easily visible at the edge of the board near PCI card
    slot 5.
    2. If the logic board fabrication number is 820-1308, 820-1440, or 820-1445, do
    not
order the processor module. Instead, you must replace both the logic board and the
processor by ordering the combined module: Module Set, Logic and Processor (Apple
    part number 661-3654).
    Replacement Warning:
When ordering this combined module set, a returned logic
board must match one of the three fabrication numbers (820-1308, 820-1440, or 820-
1445). If the logic board does not match one of these fabrication numbers, it will be
    rejected.
    3. If the logic board fabrication number is any other number (
    not
    820-1308, 820-1440, or
820-1445), order only the multiprocessor module (Apple part number 661-2730).
So make of it what you will. If your email address is in your profile, I'll email the whole document - it's a bible for MDD owners - shows you how to remove and replace everything, with photos. It's only 3.3MB.

  • Best Configuration for Dual Monitors and Cintiq

I'm a photographer and my G5 has dual monitors with Aperture. I now have a Wacom Cintiq monitor that I want to incorporate into this configuration, but I am having trouble figuring out the best way to do this. Right now, I have to disconnect one monitor and use that DVI port for the Cintiq. It works, but it is a hassle.
Does anyone out there have this sort of setup and how have you solved this? Thanks.

I still don't have an answer yet. I have two identical NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT cards in the number 1 and 2 slots. They are both set to x8/x16 which is a setup for equal medium performance from each card.
My problem persists as described at the beginning of this forum (all the monitors flick OFF for about two seconds, at a 30 minute interval (exactly), except that recently a new problem has cropped up. When I return to my computer each morning the monitors running from the number 2 slot don't light up right away, and I need to turn the power switch on the monitors on and off a couple of times before they will recognize the computer's signal and start glowing.
Also another new issue that seems related to the monitors. When the monitors go off every 30 minutes, the signal to a pair of amplified speakers is interrupted.
Any theories out there? If you guys can help me with this, maybe I tell you about the problem I have with my Mini Cooper! Wrong forum?

  • Is the ATI Radeon X1900 xtMac G5 only for dual cores?

I have an old G5 single and I was wondering if this card could be used with it.

Yes, that card (more accurately the X1900GT - the XT was for the Mac Pro only) is a PCI Express card, and only the dual core (Late 2005) G5s have those slots.

  • Is it worth recompiling for dual core?

I've just bought a new pc with dual core. Is it worth building none/some/all apps from source to take advantage of the second processor?
My guess is only some apps will benefit from having two processors, things like multimedia, can anyone confirm?

In answer to your first question, programs that support SMP (symmetric multiprocessing--the use of multiple cores/CPUs) should not need to be recompiled with a different ./configure flag (e.g. /var/abs/extra/gimp/PKGBUILD says that the GIMP is compiled with --enable-mp by default on Arch). However, modern CPUs (whether multi-core or not) support various optimizations (specific to each CPU) that may improve performance beyond Arch's default CFLAGS, which on i686 is CFLAGS="-march=i686 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe". Using ABS, you can recompile [core], [extra], [community], and [testing] packages with your own CFLAGS, which you should probably copy from the wiki according to your specific CPU. Just note that you probably won't notice much of a difference in performance, if any, from Arch's default CFLAGS, so I don't recommend recompiling all your software from source. Let me refer you to CRUX or Gentoo if you want to follow that road. Of course, you should still set CPU-specific CFLAGS in your /etc/makepkg.conf because they apply to the AUR as well as ABS. While it's probably not worth recompiling all your software just to optimize a little bit further, you might as well optimize your AUR builds since you have to compile from source anyway.
In answer to your second question, yes you should use MAKEFLAGS="-j3". I've never had a program fail to compile because of make -j3, and it almost doubles the speed of compilation. Definitely use it. Actually, according to this, MAKEFLAGS="-j2" might be slightly faster, but I've always followed the convention of adding 1 to the number of processors or cores.

  • Best phone for Sync-ing with iCal?

I'm due to upgrade my mobile and wondered which is the best available handset for Sync-ing with a mac. At present I have the Sony Ericson K750i which was working fine up until I upgraded to Tiger.
    Any ideas?

Has anybody had any experience syncing the Motorola
    KRZR with iCal?
I own a Motorola KRZR K1m (Sprint), which is supposedly supported by iSync 2.4. This seems to be a troublesome phone in regard to compatibility with iSync. If you read the iSync discussions, you will see many problems. Those that do get iSync to accept the KRZR as "supported" seem to still have problems with iCal in particular. Evidently, there are some system hacks available to force the sync to work with iCal. If you are not comfortable with getting inside files and re-writing code, then you may not be a happy camper.
Naturally, if you have access to a Windows machine, you will have no problem. (... Getting ready to duck, since that last statement will draw out all the Apple apologists and Apple-employee-wannabes ...)
Personally, I have had no success getting iSync to recognize my KRZR at all. While I can transfer files via bluetooth, the iSync issues make me wish I had some other phone. In fact, the iSync/KRZR issues are probably going to lead me to change to another (known to be supported) phone. Since I'm stuck with Sprint, that won't be easy.
    Good luck!

  • Dual Core with 2 different processors in a Satellite A100-599!!??

    Hello,
    My Satellite A100-599 is a Core 2 Duo T7100 2.00 GHZ.
In Device Manager, under Processors, I have 2 processors:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHZ
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHZ
    Is this normal? Shouldn't I have two T7200 processers @ 2.00GHZ ?
    Thank You.

    Hi mate,
no, its impossible that a dual core CPU has two different cores. I think its rather a software bug which displays the model not correctly. To fix this there is some bugfix from microsoft which should be availble on the microsoft website.
You can also try to update your chipset drivers from the www.intel.com website.
But physically its impossible because the cores are on the same processor casing, so I dont think that intel would sell CPUs with different cores. :)
