Best mouse for FCS

The little ball on the top of my mighty mouse scrolls backwards but not forwards. I find this an indespensible tool for editing and I guess it's time for a new one. Any suggestions for a replacement?

I like the Logitech MX revolution; lots of button options, highly programmable, cordless, and big enough to feel comfortable in the hand.
It even allows you to set programming within an application, so, for example, the left thumbwheel can be programmed to change brush size in Photoshop, and in FCP, to insert with transition. With both apps open, switching from one to the other changes the function of the wheel.
Also, I have three of them in my shop, one for each of 3 macs, and when they were initially set up, they each found their own channel to transmit on, so they won't interfere with the wrong computer.

  • Best mouse for Imac?

I'm really enjoying my Imac but am having trouble with the Mighty Mouse (corded mouse) that came with it. For some reason 25% of the time, the mouse responds as if I hit the secondary-right button. I'm sure it's just the way I am hitting it, but productivity is going down when this happens often enough. Is there another 3rd party mouse that someone can suggest? I love the style of this one and the scroll button, bit the primary and secondary buttons are driving me crazy.

Perhaps an explanation of how the MM works is in order and will help. I have to admit that the MM takes some getting used to and a bit of hand coordination. I got the hang of it quickly and have no issues with it. I think the MM is the best mouse for the iMac.
The exterior of the MM is touch sensitive. It can "feel' your fingers on the exterior and interprets what it senses to determine what it thinks you want to do. I rest my hand on the MM with thumb and ring finger in the area of the side buttons and index finger to the left of the scrollball and the middle finger to the right of the scrollball. The MM is configured in System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Mouse with the Primary click on the left (with my index finger) and the Secondary click on the right (with my middle finger.)
If you click with the index finger to the left of the scrollball, you get a Primary click, with or without the middle finger touching the MM. To get a Secondary click, click with the middle finger to the right of the scrollball, but the index finger must be lifted from the MM.
I use a rocking of my two fingers. When I Primary click my middle finger goes up. When I Secondary click my index finger goes up. (I never could master the side button squeeze, so I turned them off in System Prefs.)
So if you are getting a Secondary click when you are intending a Primary click, your index finger must be lifting off the MM in some way.

  • Best mouse for editing?

Got some down time today. I am just curious, what mouse do the forum folks recommend? Just wondering. And...waiting for my new Mac Pro.
    Cheers.
    Tom

Have to say that the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2 is superb! 4 buttons and a scroll wheel too. The scroll wheel is the new smooth action without the clicks and workd really well.
Perhaps the best benefit of using the Microsoft mouse is that the sideways scroll works!! Yes, you can move along the timeline by applying pressure to the scroll wheel either left or right.
What's more is that you can, via system preferences, tell the mouse what to do when you press down on the scroll wheel (mine is set to undo)!!!
All in all a superb mouse for use with FCP - even if it is from Microsoft!! Now why hasn't Apple designed one of these yet?
    Cheers

  • Best Mouse for my MacBook Pro?

I don't need a mouse for gaming purposes (let's face it Macs are limited in that department), but I do need one that will work well and won't freeze up. Two USB slots get filled pretty quickly, which is why a mouse with Bluetooth capability is preferable.
Any recommendations? I've heard Logitech is not bad, Microsoft either. I'm open to your suggestions. Is there a list that may be compiled of this information already? Oh, and a PC/Mac compatible one would be great too. Thank you!
P.S. Please don't recommend the mighty mouse; right clicking is a must and getting used to its sensors isn't something I'm willing to do for $70.

I might just try that out since the Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 alternative doesn't appeal to me for aesthetic reasons, or I may wait to buy the Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b which is slightly more expensive. I like the design of the latter but I'm not entirely sure if its worth the price tag.

  • Best Mouse for Lightroom 4

I need to buy a new mouse for my Mac to use with Lightroom 4
It also needs to work with Office apps etc
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Jim

Another more expensive option to consider is a Wacom tablet, which adds pressure sensitivity not available using a mouse. Here's a good video on tablet use with Lightroom:

  • Best mouse for a person with trembling hands

My Grandfather recently acquired a new Mac (an iBook) on which I am typing this message.
I didn't want to let him use the integrated track pad because I found it very unpractical, so I ordered an Apple (wired) mouse for him. Unfortunately his hand is often trembling, and he has very little space to move the mouse, so we need to lift the mouse to move it without affecting the pointer's position an be able to move the pointer from the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner of the screen.
All this causes him great difficulty (pointing precisely and lifting the mouse) so I wondered if a mouse with a track ball would be more suitable.
    What do you think ?

Are you thinking of the VERTICAL Mouse? I read about those, too, and thought one would be ergonomically great . . . So bought one.
I lasted about 3 days and gave up. In theory, they're great. But I don't think they're good unless you have large hands. They sure don't seem to be made for women. I have small hands and where the mouse hits as it rests against my thumb/fleshy area of my hand isn't comfortable and in fact, after a while hurts. I think the mouse is just too big for me. You need a wide hand.
And your arm has to rest on your desk at exactly the right angle or the thing is annoying to work with. I also don't know that it would be so hot for someone with trembling hands, because your hand is in such a specific position, your fingers in fact, could tremble.
Also, because your arm rests on the desk and your hand around the mouse, every time you move or adjust your position, you have to pick up the mouse and reset yourself. And it's clunkier to hold than other mice and sliding it around is clunkier.
I like the idea of the vertical mouse so much and I might use it from time to time as a change of pace, but I can't recommend it unless you know for a fact it will fit your hand comfortably. I bought mine online. Couldn't find anywhere to audition it live.

  • What's the best mouse for heavy video and audio editing?

I do an enormous of audio and video editing.  I'm finally feeling the strange sensations of tightness in my right hand (being right-handed).  I realize now that the typical mouse design is bad for heavy precision work.  When I use my son's Mac flat mouse, I notice that my hand lies flat and somewhat rested while working.
Can anyone recommend a great flat or other mouse for my PC?

I guess it's all a matter of personal preference.
When I got my Mac, the first thing I did was replace that God-awful Mighty Mouse with a nice, generic two-button roller mouse.
They all work about the same. I guess it's mostly about your personal ergonomic comfort.

  • Best mouse for G5

hi, I have a Logitech-MX518 corded mouse which I use with my g5. It works pretty well but much better when I plug it into a PC
Is there a good mouse for mac? I find the apple ones a bit cumbersome
    thanks

I got 3 of these, 1 for my G5 and 1 each for my eMacs.

I didn't like the multi-colour flashing led, so replaced it for a constant blue one.
Life is so much easier with right click. The scroll works as intended and the scroll push down button even works with the odd game of Halo
You don't need to break the bank to have a good mouse.

  • Best Mouse for 9.2.2?

I use 9.2.2 exclusively, and my Apple Optical Mouse just stopped working. I've tried a few cheap mice, but they all have low resolution.
Could you please offer some recommendations regarding which mice work best with 9.2.2?
    Thanks for your time.
    J.C. Westin
    G4   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi, J.C. -
I've used Logitech, Kensington, and Microsoft mouses - all worked well. I've ended up using the MS Intellimouse Explorer models, mainly because of the shape of the mouse - it suits my hand best.
However, I do not use the software that comes with the mouse. Instead, I use USB Overdrive, which provides better control and no conflicts.
One thing to consider when using an optical mouse is the surface. A fine textured or matte surface is better than a smooth, shiny, or patterned surface; a dark surface is better than a light one. Oddly, an old cloth-covered black or dark blue mouse pad is near perfect.

  • Best Mouse for Photoshop

    Hello,
New to this forum.  I appologize if Im not in the correct area, please point me.  Wondering if anyone knew which mouse is best for Photoshop. ie: using magnetic lasso, fine touch up/restoration work etc ?
I have a tablet but my hand shake to much to use it anymore.  So I need a replacement for it.  I used to use a trackball on my pc some time ago but now I use a Macbook pro laptop.
I appreciate any suggestions on mice and I thank you now in advance for your expertise.

    Hi.
I second Mylenium's emotion. I've been using Logitech programmable mice for 10 years. Currently I'm using the MX Revolution (wireless). Still working after 5 years of heavy use. My previous Logitech mouse was still working fine after 6 years, but didn't like Vista when I got a new computer.
I have big hands, and the MX is a good fit. Righties only, sadly. It's big, heavy, and stable. It has a built in rechargeable battery, which I was leery of at first. But the battery last a long, long time, and it has never been an issue. It recharges in a cradle, and fast, which is good.
It's programmable, the most important feature to me. It has more programmable toggles and buttons than I use, but the ones I do use are golden. In addition to the normal mouse functions in their normal places, I have Shft, Ctrl, & Enter under my index finger. My thumb accesses Alt, Ctrl+Alt, & Ctrl+Alt+Shft under my thumb. The result being my right hand never leaves the mouse, and my left hand works the keyboard. It's fast and efficient, even when I don't know where I'm going. If that sounds too geeky, just program couple of buttons. The new MX is still $100 and is supposed to work with Mac OS® X 10.4 or later.
I know some folks like to keep it simple. Even if you don't program it, it's still a big, heavy, comfortable mouse with great performance.
A critical element in my mousing nirvana is the gel filled wrist pad. It reduces fatigue and the chance of carpel tunnel and such. And just as important, it stabilizes my wrist so my hand movements are more sure. The speed of the mouse is a factor too. My mouse is set to "Fast", with moderate "Acceleration". This way I can reach the whole screen without moving my wrist or lifting the mouse. Saves time and fatigue. And of course a good chair set at the right height and the desk at the right height help.
    FWIW.
    Peace,
    Lee

  • Best Mouse for 10.4, 10.3.7...?

    And not the Mighty Mouse.
I'm looking for something with at least two buttons and a scroll wheel that works well under 10.4 and also must work under 10.3.7.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    All My Best,
    Jeffrey

Logitech is many people's favorite, though with one caveat, the software may not work under the latest 10.4 or later right away. Their driver updates usually are not that quick to follow a system update which may break them. Steer Mouse and USB Overdrive though can be more quick, if the functionality of the multiple buttons built-in to the operating system is not enough for you.

  • Best mouse for Mbp

I am getting a Mbp and I want a good mouse. I will do a little bit of gaming edit pics and just the other usual stuff. What are some mouses

just about any usb mouse will work, Iuse mighty mouse, but that is not offered any more.
Magic mouse or magic track pad from Apple are pretty cool, no wire, plus most Apple stuff was designed specifically for Apple use.
Go try some out and see what feels and works best for what you need to do

  • Which is the best mouse for photo editing in Photoshop CS5?

Hi everyone! Im planning to buy a mouse and can't decide which one would be the best. I have been using Photoshop CS5. Im really into photgraphy, its a new passion of mine. I use a Macbook Pro but I think its time to get a mouse. I know a lot of people think that the tablet is the answer and Im looking into that but I really want to try a mouse first. Thanks for the answers!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I recommend the 15-inch MacBook Pro if you can afford it. That's because Photoshop runs better on a dedicated graphic card, which only the 15-inch MacBook Pro includes, but it should run without any problem on a 13-inch MacBook Pro too

  • Best mouse for severly arthritic

A friend has very bad arthritic hands where the fingers slant. Its hard using the mouse that came with the imac. Are there specific mice available for these conditions? Would a cordless be better? Considering there is the "older generation" using computers how nice it would be to have a mouse designed for people with bad hands.

I have seen on display a wide selection of different Mac compadible mice with side buttons, thumb buttons and thumb wheels at stores like Fry's, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc.... My advice is to get your friend out and see what feels comfortable for there need.

  • Best mouse for InDesign

My company upgraded our operating system to Windows 7 and upgraded InDesign to CS6. Unfortunately my ancient (yet awesome) mouse no longer works due to driver incompatibility. They no longer make this mouse so getting an updated version/driver is not an option. I'm looking for a new one and am hoping I can get some feedback as to what others use with InDesign. I specifically want to be able to scroll horizontally in InDesign. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've been partial to Logitech mice for years and was using an old LX3 untill about 6 months ago when it died. Now using the m510 which is about as basic a wireless full-size mouse as they currently make with a tilt wheel for horizontal scrolling. It's not flawless, however -- there seems to a be a display bug that crops up in ID with Logitech mice that shifts the dispaly from High Quality to typical when you use the scroll wheel sometimes, particularly horizontally. This is fixed easily by holding Alt + Spacebar to get the hand tool and clicking anywhere.
