Best MP3/4 player with a big screen???

Hi,
I want to buy an MP3/4 player for my disabled son.  I need the largest screen possible to capture his attention (I've seen one that is 3", are there any larger than that?) and would love one with the option of external speakers or ear plugs. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I looked at this unit but the price is fairly high, and it does a lot of stuff that I don't need (like television, internet, media club).  I prefer to stay around the $100.  price range and use it for watching videos or video clips (my son's attention span is very, very short) plus put his music on the unit.  It would be used for him to be entertained on airplanes, long car trips and when it is necessary for him to sit quietly.
Is there anything like the Archos 5 but in a smaller price range?

  • Creative mp3/mp4 player with video aut conex

Hello, first of all, sorry for my English... but I?m from Spain. I visited your creative website, and I see most of the mp3/4 players of for page. The new Zen with 2,5" screen is increible. I searching for a player with the following specifications:?- Audio and video player. - At least 2,5" screen. - Ampliable memory by any memory card format. - And the most important for me, a external audio/video conexion, for conect it with a TV. I see the specifications of the Zen vision W. And all I need is in it. But the Zen vision W is to big for me, I?m searching something more portable, like dimensions of new Zen.
With product, have all of these specifications? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Philipp
    Okay, that worked, thanx!! :)
And well, not having HTML5 video playback is not a big issue I think. I mean, till now I only encountered low(er) quality playback when HTML5 is used. At least, my 1080 HD vids on YouTube are low quality on high settings when played with HTML5 enabled.

  • I want this defective ZEN player with a white screen replaced.

I purchased a Creative Labs 4GB Zen Player on January 3th of 2009 at Walmart for $.45 including a extra one year protection plan. I used this player for a couple of months and it sat in a drawer for the remainder of the year. I pull it out of the drawer last week to discover it has what the web describes as the "white screen of death". This player functions but the screen is blank. I have been through your automated recovery/firmware update procedure and it was no help what so ever. So here I have a product I got basically 60days of service from that went bad sitting in a drawer.
Bottom line: I want this defecti've unit replaced.

This is a user forum.:smileyindifferent: Has nothing to do with Customer Service. If you purchased your extended warranty thru Walmart then that is who you would need to contact.

  • Best Data rate and format for Big Screen Playback

I am a video producer supplying content for a tradeshow display consisting of 18 flat screens oriented vertically, 8 over 8. Very heavy duty Windows playback machine, with 3 graphics cards, 1 for each set of 6 monitors. The total pixel size is 3240x 1280 px. We have produced a number of full screen and smaller movies that the interactive programmer is trying to intergrate into a Flash program where some videos will play full screen, and others in smaller windows (those were produced in 1920x1080). All videos were mastered at the specified pixel count, square pixels, progressive, and output in Pro Res 422, 44.1K audio. Flash is being used to create the interface, and I am transcoding to .F4V at lower bit rates like 4, 6, and 9 Mbps. They are having trouble playing these movies back smoothly. We have done similar projects in the past with Director without issue. Of course they are blaming the video, I am offering to encode in any format at any data rate they suggest. Can anyone suggest a direction here?

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • New Mini (HDMI) with CRT Big Screen TV (RP)

Is anyone using the new Mini with a CRT TV. I have a Mitsubishi WS-65813 rear projection TV that I'd like to connect to the New Mini using HDMI to DVI. I had one of the older Mini's and the problem was the screen on the TV was not full screen or it was over-scanned, depending on the option I picked.
My question is if I connect the New Mini (HDMI-DVI) to MY TV will it fit native, meaning will it fit the screen without the above mentioned? I'd love to have the ability to watch HULU.
PS. I'd love to get a new LCD TV but the WS-65813 has a superior picture, and it has a 65 inch screen. Only 1080i, 480p, 480i, and Firewire. NO 720p.

    D/FW wrote:
So there's and overscan and a underscan now? Is this different from previous generation Mini's?
They actually removed the overscan function. I'm not sure how many people were using it. Very few I suspect (thus why it was removed).
The underscan function is implemented as a slider. You move it to the right until you can just see the perimeter of the Mac desktop.
Ideally, it should be all the way to the left, in a perfect world. Because you are losing resolution by using the underscan function.
But obviously many TVs do require it. And Apple kindly lets you adjust it to just the level that you need for your particular display device.
I don't know if the the underscan function is limited to only certain screen resolutions. I can't test it right now. But I will when I can. Or perhaps someone else in this discussion will have an opportunity to do so and share their findings.

  • Flash MP3 player with AM and FM rad

Why is it that the only MP3 players I see with AM and FM are CD based? Some people have a great desire to listen to AM radio for sporting events, news, or talk radio. It is so annoying for me to have to carry a separate radio with my n200 so that I can have my music as well as AM radio. The funny thing is that I listen to AM radio much more than FM. I usually like to either listen to my music or to AM radio. I also have an MP3 cd player with AM and FM, however that is even larger than both the n200 plus a small separate radio. Since I don't want to constantly swap the earphones from the n200 to the radio and back, I am also carrying two sets of earphones.
My ideal flash mp3 player would be
    ) At least 4 gigs
    2) have both AM and FM radio
    3) Run on a AA battery.
AA batteries hold 2.5 times the power of a AAA yet are often lower in price.
    4) have a decent sized display.
    5) Have a separate button that with one press switches from mp3 music to the radio or back.
    6) Supports subscription music
    7) has a built in clock with the time constantly displayed, even when the player is off.
While such a player would be slightly larger than the Nano Plus, it would be so much more functional.. There are still some who want the smallest possible player so I wouldn't want to see such a player replace the Nano Plus, however it would be nice if such a player would replace the TX FM which is too similar to the Nano Plus(who really cares whether the USB plug is on the player itself?).

I think the reason you don't see AM radios in 00% digital products (such as MP3 players) is not enough demand to tackle two significant technical issues:
The ferrite-coil antennas used by most portable AM radios take up a lot of room on circuit boards; some MP3 players are too small for them, while others simply can't give up valuable circuit-board real estate for a feature used by so few people. OTOH, most portable FM radios use the headphone cord as an antenna, so they can be smaller.</LI>
AM frequencies and channel spacing vary around the world in ways that make a "one size fits all" digital solution very hard to implement. The US AM band runs from 535-705 kHz with 0-kHz spacing (540, 550, ... , 700); in other parts of the world it still runs from 535-605 kHz, and/or uses 9-kHz spacing which is incompatible. OTOH, nearly all major countries, except Japan, have adopted FM bands in the 87.5 (88 in the US) to 08 MHz range, and all spacing schemes are multiples of the narrowest one, 50 kHz (it's 00 kHz in most countries, 200 kHz in the US), so a digital FM tuner covering 87.5-08 MHz with 50-kHz spacing will work everywhere but Japan.</LI>
Also, digital-radio considerations in the US may inhibit the sale of new AM radios here. The US digital-radio standard is an IBOC (in-band, on-channel) system, where the analog and digital broadcasts share the same frequency and signal. Though this is supposed to allow simultaneous analog and digital broadcasts as long as broadcasters want them (unlike DAB systems in other countries and digital TV even in the US, where the digital signal is separate and broadcasters must eventually give up their analog spectrum), even IBOC broadcasters will eventually go all-digital. Since the bandwidth of digital AM is so limited (at present it only promises "FM quality" while digital FM promises "CD quality") and digital limits analog sound quality (especially on AM where it's poor to begin with), it's likely AM will want to go 00% digital long before FM does. Limiting analog AM radios now makes it easier for AM to make that painful transition.

  • Nokia Big Screen has Small Resolution

Am using Nokia Phone Broswer 2 together with Nokia Big Screen for HDMI connectio to TV set. This produces low-resolution iamges on the TV screen, as if the phone browser choses a resolution for its own screen and is not aware of the Big Screen.
I suggest Nokia to improve the integration between these 2 apps

It's not possible to use BigScreen to browse the internet on a TV. It currently only supports videos, pictures and music.
    All the best.

  • Best setting for a big screen projection?

    Hey,
I'm working on a project that is supposed to be screened on a big screen (I assume something like a small movie theater screen) and I was wondering - what would be the best settings when exporting for something like that? If I compressed it with h.264 but still kept it HD 1440x1080 would that be good enough for a big screen projection or would it be too compressed? I am working in Apple ProRes, the video is about 4 minutes long and when I export it with current settings - it comes out to be about 5.5GB (most of the footage I used was old archived videos though) and I'm trying to get it down to about 2GB so I can send it over the internet.
Anyone out there ever exported a movie for a movie theater before?

a data dvd as well just to be safe
How do you know that the playback system will have the codec needed to play your file?
Anyone by any chance know of a free software that can split the 5.5GB across multiple data dvds?
Why not use a dual-layer DVD?
David's suggestion makes sense, but if you really want to know...
You can break up large files into smaller segments using the Terminal command "Split".
In the following example, we will break a short (imaginary) movie, "MyFilm.mov" into 5MB pieces, in this form it could be sent piece by piece via email, without blocking the recipients mailbox for everything else.
Place the file to be split onto the desktop (this keeps it simple, otherwise you will have to "cd" to the directory where your movie resides)
    Open Terminal and...
TYPE: *cd desktop* and press return
TYPE: *split -b 5000k MyFilm.mov* and press return
This will produce a number of files on your desktop named xaa, xab, xac and so on. There is a way to retain the original name or rename the file to something else but I don't have documentation on this at hand.
The "5000k" part of the command is the size of the individual split files (in this case, the file will be broken into pieces of approx. 5MB each
Depending on the files total size you might want to break it into say, 50MB pieces - substitute "50m" for "5000k" in this case. This also saves you from having to type all those zeros!
These days, you are more likely have a movie several Gigabytes in size - as an example, the DV format uses 13GB of disk space for an hour of video. Prepare those files for burning to multiple CDs by typing "650m" after the split -b command.
This may take some time to process, depending on the size of the resulting files, how much RAM you have and the speed of your Mac.
At some point, your emailed or archived files will need to be re-assembled into a viewable movie. So....
Rejoin a set of split files:
Place all the files "xaa", "xab" etc, that are to be rejoined, onto the desktop
    (keep it simple, remember...)
    In Terminal;
TYPE: *cd desktop* and press return
Type *cat x* > MyFilm.mov* and press return. Again, this may take some time, depending on the size of the resulting files.

  • Mp3 player  with  built in speaker

    HI,
I am looking for a basic mp3 player with a built in speaker under $100.
I just want to listen to podcasts that I download on my macbook and then
transfer to an mp3 player. I don't need video or lot of bells and whistles - but a built-in-speaker is crucial as well as being able to marry with a mac.
Simple drag and drop would be ideal.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

MP3 players come in a range of options and prices. iPods are probably the best, but are also among the pricier. You can see a bunch of options here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Audio/iPod-MP3-Players/abcat0201000.c?id=abcat020100 0&searchterm=mp3%20player&searchresults=1
Since this is an iTunes Forum, please be aware that the automatic sync option for iTunes only applies to iPods, and does not work with other players. You can however use your MP3 tracks both in iTunes and in your portable player.

  • Using the mp3 player with various comput

    Hello,
I was wondering if I can use the mp3 player with more than one computer, that's to say, not only with the first one. I'm in the USA now but I li've in Italy, so if I buy it here and use it here to download songs, then will I be able to use it in Italy too? Meaning, will I be able to use it with another computer and download others song on it's
And another question, concerning the battery, what happens when it dies? Because on the mp3 player homepage I read something about replacing it but I would like to know more about it. The battery is a big concern because I'm choosing between Ipod and this one, and on the discussion forums of Ipod, it wasn't very reassuring. While I had heard that Creative's battery is good.
Thank you very much. Please answer soon.

Lithium Ion batteries last on average 3 years at peak performance from date of manufacture. More here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • What is the best Mp3 player from Creat

    Good forum members,
i am looking for a mp3 player with a good fm radio too. That can receive good radio stations.

Best? It depends what your needs are, and what your budget is. For me, I prefer using a player that is powered by a AAA or AA battery, and I carry at least one spare battery. For me the most important thing is not to be without power when I want to listen to my player. For others, a larger storage capacity is more important. Do you want to view photos or video on your player? The players with the largest storage capacity(perhaps 8 gigs or more?) use a hard dri've. Those with a smaller storage capacity use flash memory(except some old models). I would not even consider a player that uses a hard dri've since a hard dri've can easily be damaged by the shock of dropping it, or by vibration.

  • Looking for a MP3 Player with good Bass.

    Hi,
I have a Nokia N73 Music edition phone. The built in MP3 player gives a decent output, but deep bass sounds are not reproduced properly and the overall sound is not very impressive (not crisp). I tested with two pairs of good Philips and Sony head phones, using a 2.5 mm audio converter (problem is not with the headphones).
Is there a good Symbian MP3 player with a good equalizer or special signal processing features to produce deeper bass sounds? (Like Sony Ericsson MegaBase)

Whatever you do to the sound with the processor (or a DSP) will be a compromise if the output stages aren't up to scratch.
The only things you can do are
increase the bass level (causes clipping in loud passages - I'm guessing this is what you tried and didn't like)
compress the bass (bass will be loud enough in quiet passages, but won't be louder in the loud passages - I think this is a bit more processor intensive and complex and doubt there's any software that does it)
    or
reduce the treble and midrange (you will have to turn the volume up, but if you can that's the best option as it should be lower in distortion). I would try this last idea and see how that does.
