Best online stores for memory

What are the best and most trusted online stores to buy upgrades for memory and hard drives? Thanks in advance.

I've always been happy with New Egg. I've bought RAM from there many times. In fact I bought my MacBook RAM there. I've also bought various hard drives from there. Never had trouble.
Another place I've bought both the items you're after is OWC.
Can't go wrong with either. OWC knows Macs but you might if you know specifically what you're after find a better price at New Egg.

I'd put them on an external hard drive(s) and burn them to a DVD as well (at least 2 - 3 copies on different drives/media); I prefer having control and a local solution instead of relying on a server and the possibility of someone (who shouldn't be)  downloading my work.

  • Best Online resources for Windows administrators

    Hi,
What are some of the best online resources for Windows administrators[apart from Technet ofcourse]
    Vignesh

    Hi Vignes,
Technet is not a small world, you can find anything and everything, if you have a patience to search for the topics/articles etc. Being a Windows Technician, I recommend you use Technet.
Of-course, there are many 3rd party forums/blog links available, it is up to you and your queries. Use Bing/Google to get the details of other resources.
    Thank you for understanding.

  • Best online backup for iMovie clips?

    Hi,
I shoot a lot of video and make movies using iMovie. I import clips from a video camera using Sandisk memory cards into iMovie.
My question is, I am looking for the best online data storage that would allow me to upload the video clips on the memory card to an online service. Then, in the future if needed, retrieve the clips of my choice and bring them either directly into iMove, or put them back onto the memory card which can be used to import the clips into iMovie.
Any recommendations? Preferably unlimited storage, and would allow me to group clips into differnt folders, ie dates or project names.
    Thanks!

I am using CrashPlan for this.
CrashPlan lets you seed your cloud backup with a 1TB disk drive that they send you, so that you only have to send online new files, or files that will not fit within 1TB.
I currently have about 2 TB backed up to the cloud. I have all my DV, all my h.264, and all my VHS and Hi8 backed up to the cloud. For my AVCHD, I only backup the archive copy from the camera, and the completed movie, because the Apple Intermediate Codec versions of the Events are too large to backup to the cloud on a timely basis. So the Archive copy is fine, and it is the first generation copy anyway. I also backup my documents folder, my iTunes library, and my iPhoto and Aperture libraries to the cloud.
I have a fast internet connection with 50 Mbs download and 10 Mbs upload.
Note: This is only for backup. I keep a local copy too.
If you make camera archives with iMovie, you can import from those. You do not have to move stuff back to the card. See this section of iMovie Help. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov39f84817

  • What is the best online backup for OS 10.5.8? And if I Reinstall OS will I have problems?

My old Mac has had the flashing question mark file on a blue screen. I waited a couple days, turned it back on and it worked. However, in between that time I went and bought a new Macbook Air. I am relieved to have all of my pics and docs back. I need a good online backup. I downloaded BackBlaze Backup but it is taking forever and I am not sure if it's the best choice.
My plan is to backup all of my files and then wipe my computer clean with the install disks and give my computer to my little sister. So, my question is two fold; which is best online backup and will I have any issues wiping clean the computer and doing a reinstall? For example, will all the updates still be available? What is the best thing for me to do?
    Thank you : )

Just understand it gets pretty expensive after you exceed the free space. 2-5 GBs isn't much space.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Best online training for FCP X

I'm looking for good online training for FCP X 10.1.2
For me it's important that you get training videos that are updated (and not show e.g. FCP 10.0).
I'd also like to have access to some exercises, but not documentary material (which is not my thing), but exercises for movies, TV, and story-oriented shorts.

My degree is educational psychology, I've been teaching FCP since version 4, been teaching all of the Final Cut Studio apps since FCS2, been teaching apps for various software companies for 3 decades.  Here's my professional evaluation.
The "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X, Professional Post-Production" by Brendan Boykin is hands down the BEST book on the market.  The eBook version has been updated to version 10.0.2, also.  If you purchase the eBook version from Peachpit Press, you get the EPUB, PDF, and MOBI versions all together, and the updates for the EPUB are free.
Online, the best training will be Ripple Training, by far.

  • Best online game for low specs

    Hello everyone,
I wonder what is the best online game one can play with an integrated intel chipset?
I have tried quakelive which has a good community and it also run smoothly (~80 fps) on my computer. What else could you think of?
Thanks a lot for your help !

Oh my gosh I've been following this thread from it's creation and I still have NO IDEA what it's about.
Are you talking about video games that are embedded in a web browser? Or, video games that connect to other plays via the Internet? What is "low specs"? Do emulated games count? How about games in an emulator that runs in a web browser? What genre do you want? How about THE COLLOSAL CAVE ADVENTURE? That can be played online and the system requirements are pretty much any toaster that runs NetBSD.
Whatever. It doesn't matter. The answer to your question is "Tux Racer". In any thread about Linux gaming the answer is always Tux Racer.

  • Anyone have a Online Store for sale?

I would like buy a online store, better than the one in packaged Apps..
    Does anyone have one available?
It would be used internally, to sell recycled goods within our company, but hopefully in time expanded to internet.
    Tx
    Dean

    Hi Dean,
I have developed an online store at http://www.genghisvinyl.co.uk
The ordering process is quite straightforward
    - Select items you want to purchase
    - Items are added to the shopping cart
    - Confirm order and enter customer and delivery details
    - Pay for the goods via Paypal
    - Order sent to you via email
    - Payment receipt received from Paypal
    - Marry the order and the payment then ship the goods
Is this the sort of thing you're looking for? I could of course modify it to suit your requirements. I could also apply your corporate look and feel to it.
If you'd prefer to take this discussion offline, please email me at [email protected]

  • Can anyone recommend the best ONLINE backup for Mac's

Hello, I have a new Macbook Pro, and would like to take an extra step and backup
my pictures, my files, my i-tunes library, onto an online service. Does anyone use one
now or have you had any experience with using an online service? Thanks

While MobileMe does offer up cloud storage, I wouldn't say it's a great backup service as such. You have to manually copy stuff etc. It's not automated - of course there are ways to automate it of course.
Also, you need to consider the amount you need to store. 20Gb standard with MobileMe, beyond that you pay to upgrade?
Personally I prefer to use automated services. My current favourite is Mozy - you can read about my experiences here: http://www.markc.me.uk/MarkC/Blog/Entries/2009/7/15Online_Backups_-Mozy.html
I've the best part of 1Tb of uploaded backed up data on there now, all for 50ish dollars/year. Bargain, and works well.

  • Best online backup for open files?

Recommended online backup service for "open" files?

Time Machine is excellent and is part of the applications provided.  This link explains all aspects of Time Machine:

    If you are looking for a slightly different approach, Carbon Copy Cloner is a third party application that also is used extensively in the Mac community;

  • Best online resource for HD workflow

I'll be working in NTSC but don't know if the production company is shooting at 23.98, 24, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60. Is there a site that covers all the possibilities from off-line to on-line?

For HD, you can always check out the FAQ at hdforindies.com.
But I don't know of one site that covers every possibility on the face of the planet.
You can click on Underdog for my blog on working with DVCPRO HD...

  • Best online backup for MacbookPro bought in Jan 2010?

Going travelling and need to have photos files etc safely stored at the end of every day in case my Mac goes astray.  I'm overwhelmed with software learning and forgetful so want super simple and automatic if possible.  Any suggestions?  Is the new iCloud good enuf?

    Dropbox possibly.
iCloud doesn't work with 10.6 fully, only portions, only full with 10.7
Slower too. Have to buy all new software versions and hardware drivers.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Since you can't get Internet everywhere, some places it's too slow to do anything, and power is a problem, best to backup to portable drives on your person.
Heck even DVD's are good, get them nearly everywhere too.
IMO stick with 10.6, you know it works and use DVD's and a portable hard drive or two well protected

  • Best Online Backup for Tiger...

I'm looking to get this service in addition to my daily backup to an external drive.
I've tried IDrive and after spending DAYS backing up about 45GB of my files, I find their software inconsistent and unreliable.... Carbonite seems great, but it's not Tiger-compatible. Dropbox seems great, but it seems like I have to manually drop files to be backed up, I don't see how I can schedule it to update automatically my backed up files.
So what else is there for us, Tiger users?
    Thanks.....

OK, great, let us know how it goes, but I think I saw unlimited space & bandwidth for $4...
