Best option for best display without DVD

I've been reading all the b/g threads as research...
I have a 1920x1080 project timeline, 23 mins total time. Source material 1080i mixed with some other soure material. I export as Quicktime Conversion, choose NTSC 720x480 16:9 (853x480) to burn to a DVD in iDVD (max 480 lines). Part of my timeline has a high res graphic overlay, like a super in the corner over all video in the timeline. When I export at 1280x720 QT, it looks great in my external (DVI out) computer monitor. When I burn the 853x480 QT movie to iDVD and play in the (brand new) scalable Sony DVD, I choose the HDMI source (1080p) option and the image appears less than stellar, the graphic is smudgy and the titles are not brilliant sharp. Then I switch over my source over to VIdeo 1 (480 lines - composite) on the DVD player and the image looks pretty much the same, smudgy and not as sharp as I was hoping. It is playing full screen 16:9 but I'm a little disappointed in the quality of 480.
I have to play this video at a convention in a hall, with LCD panels and a large projector. Here's what I'm thinking. Why use DVD at all. Wouldn't I just want want to hookup laptops with VGA output to to go LCD panels instead of DVD players that limit the quality. QT player has the option to loop video. Same with computer out to projector via VGA. Is this the solution? Or will 720p choke on a PC laptop.
On a Mac, DVI to VGA to 40" LCD panel? HD display?

Thanks for the hedzup on VGA devices on PC laptops. So the substitue would be to insist on MacBook Pro for playback as they have DVI out, which would give me what I want on an LCD panel for quality video at 1280x720 or 1920x1080i or p? The video is only 22 min long.
But you have suggested another option as well? I didn't know this is possible. I have my MacBook Pro DVD burner, and my DVD player is Blu-ray compatible at HDMI 1080p with HDMI cable. Can I really burn a Blu-ray video with Roxio Toast to 1280x720 on my MacBook, and it will play at 720p in the DVD player, bypassing the limitations of iDVD? I understood Blu-ray was a completely different laser technology with unique DVD disks.

Selection options for field display text instead of key

Hi All,
In the selection screen in my reports, when the user clicks on the selection options for one the fields to display the possible values they can use. Instead of the key the pop up box only displays the text for that field. This is an issue because one of the fields is equipment number and the user needs to be able to see the key not the descriptions. This is occurring in multiple reports and for multiple fields. I haven't been able to find anything in the infoobject properties or the query properties to change this.

Designing for Retina Display without dealing with the retina.js addition

Is it possible for me, as the designer, to create a website in muse and then have someone more tech saavy apply the retina.js stuff at the end? I am starting a webstie and have negative amounts of ability when it comes to the tech stuff. I would like to just design the site and 1x and @2x artwork/graphics (when they are needed) and then let someone else figure out the retina.js later. Is this possible or do I need to set up my new Muse site document with this in the very beginning?
I am new to the "community" so if I am breaking any unwritten rules with this post or question please be patient with me but feel free to tell me exactly what I did wrong and how I should do it next time.

Why doesn't itunes have an simple upload option for putting CDs and DVDs into my ipod touch library?

I have movies and CDs I don't want to have to purchase again through itunes that I would like to put on my ipod touch without a lot of complicated hassles. I don't understand why it isn't a simple point and click and it happens option on my itunes library list of options. I have four kids and a ton of work and don't have time or expertise to spend figuring out how to make that work by reading through manuals. I don't see the point in buying the same music or movies or books twice. I work in a job that allows me to listen to my ipod while I work. This is a huge perk for an otherwise tedious and boring job, but I don't have time or money to spend buying extra movies or reading a ton of technical information trying to figure this all out. If they can do all the other stuff they do with an ipod touch I don't see why this request should be a serious challenge.
I took a guess on my operating system. I don't know. Do you see the huge list of operating systems? That seems like a lot. It seems to me that everything should be compatible with everything else or people like me that expect to be able to do what other systems can do get really frustrated and irritated when we realize that we can't because capabilities and limitations where not emphasized in the advertising.

You know that they aren't secure unless you change them every six months. Do you realize how many different computer systems and programs I have to engage in work and for personal use?! Limited options for VGA display

When I connect my new intel MBP to a monitor it does not give me the resolution options to fill the screen fully. On my older G4 Mini Mac, and an earlier model intel MBP (running 10.4) I was able to set the resolution to 1440 by 900 and it would give me a full screen on the laptop and the TV.
On this MBP I can only set it up to 1280 by 960 at 60 hz, which creates bars on the side of the laptop screen and cuts off the edges of the screen on the computer.

Options for post 1st time DVD is played?

I remember reading somewhere that it's possible for DVD players to tell if a certain DVD was inserted previously, and behave differently. For example not playing certain Intro features.

No, there is nothing in the DVD specs for this, and there is nothing you can add to the disc to make this happen. This is entirely dependent on the actual DVD player to do this. The problem is that not all DVD players have this ability, and it is entirely up to the end user to utilize this if they even have this feature.

Need "collapse" option for folder display

My email works great on ipad, but filing emails into folders is a Nightmare for now! Can apple please look at what clever blackberry has done where:
A) you can "collapse" folders so i dont have to scroll past about 50 subfolders to find the folder i need to file my email in, and
B) it even allows you to start typing the key word on the email and finds the right folder for it! Yah! So awesome!
Email on apple ipad (and previously ipad) is really slow and annoying for filing emails by comparism.
I really look forward to a patch or version of mail for ipad i can download or something to fix this please?
I would even pay for it as ab app that integrates to the ipad email if need be as the slow process is really Driving me insane!
I will only continue to buy apple as long as it really is convenient to use. For now, on that point, the work blackberry is saving me much more time!

Options for upgrading phone without new contract

I currently have an I-phone4 and my contract is up. I want to get a Samsung Galaxy note 2 or 3. Can I buy a used phone, either from Verizon or elsewhere, and stay on my current plan, which offers unlimited data. Would Verizon buy back my I-phone 4?

Yes, you can 'bring your own phone' and keep your current plan. Just ensure that the phone is Verizon branded with a clean ESN. Verizon has a trade-in program, but you probably would do better selling your phone on ebay or swappa.

Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).

Will Blu-ray be an option for Ideapad U series?

Considering an Ideapad U series, but want to have the option to go Blu-ray either now or relatively soon. Does anyone know if the graphics will support it and if this will be an option?

You ask for Blu-ray (which definately will be an option for models that have DVD-ROMs inside) but then you mean graphics? What are you exactly asking about? If you're asking if videocards are powerfull enough to handle 1080p H264, answer is positive - all new videocards have decoding options for that. Be sure - every model ending *30 (for example, U330) will handle HD-video without a whistle.
I'm not a native speaker and for that can take something wrong.

Different scaling for different displays

Hi, so recently I moved into windows ten hoping that this issue be fixed, apparently, there is still no way to set different display scaling options for different displays, I have a 4k display, which I use with 200% scaling, but I also have a 1080p monitor.
Is there any way to set 200% scaling for the 4k, and then no scaling on the 1080p one?? This is the only reason I moved to windows ten and I would hope that this is supported, given that it is touted to have a lot better scaling support.

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

Best options for exporting a sequence and making a DVD

I have a sequence that is 79 minutes long with the following properties:
Vid Rate - 29.97 fps
Frame Size - 1440 x 1080
Compressor - Apple Int. Codec
Pixel Aspect - HD (1440x1080)
This project began with the intention of being a short video, which is my background, and I can usually deal with exporting issues for short videos. However, it is no longer a small project. This was unexpected, and I frequently find myself in over my head. I am at the point where I need to give small theaters copies to view for consideration for a real screening, and would like to ask the folks here some questions:
How would you export this sequence for viewing on a DVD? Export through QuickTime Movie (not conversion)? Wouldn't that make a file too large to create a DVD with iDVD? DVD is only SD, yes? How is that (watching on a DVD) taken care of, if at a later time I would want a DVD of this sequence to be in the best quality possible?
This is a lot of questions, and I hope not too vague. Thank you for your time, and thanks in advance for any help.

• Disable Screen and Energy saver
• IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
• Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
• Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
• Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
• NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
Encoding
• I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
• I use Verbatim
• I use DVD-R (plays on more even older DVD-players)
Burn speed set
• I set down this to x4 (or x1)
iDVD BUG
• One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
Use of Chapters
• I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
• NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
• No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
Material used to build movie
• video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
• audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
• photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
If problems:
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.

May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving
