Best Option For Playing Multiple Videos

(CS3 AS2.0)
Hi,
I'm tweaking a flash website for a freind and he wants to have some videos play from a page. There are 25 files and ideally I want to achieve the 'Lightbox' look so that the browser window dims and the video plays over the top. After looking around I haven't found any easy solutions.
What is the best way to achieve this, bearing in mind I shall have all these buttons on a page and want to have the video 'float' on top of the actual site?
I'm relatively new to this although a long standing flash user when it comes to animation etc - not great on scripting.
If you could point me to a link or help with the terminology I need that would be great. All my video files are FLV and ready to go. Need to know how to link in with the buttons I already have in place.
Help greatly appreciated!
K.

Here's a link to what I'm after but the solution is in CS4 with AS 3.o and I'm using the previous versions

  • What is good practice for playing multiple video's in a single swf?

    Hello,
    I have build in the past a video wall with video's inside. After building this i came across some problems.
    If you have too many video players loading at once it takes a lot of processing and the tweens in the
    page while loading the video's where not moving fluidly, but more in a stuttering way.
    After lot's of test i found a good working solution.  I imported the flv video's into flash en exported them on the timeline
    as a embedded swf.  Then i externally loaded these swf files and that performed much better.
    Is it even good practice to load multiple video instances at once? I used this time the LoaderMax of greensock but the video's
    only play after it's completely loaded. I would like to find a way to progressive play all video's at.
    Does someone has experience with this?
    Regards,
    Chris.

    How about an XML file which supplies the title for each movie and the location or source of the video to be played?  Simple version below.
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    - <playlist>
    <video src="Gfx/video/Alex1.f4v" title="John Deere 330" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Benni1.f4v" title="Hitachi Z240F" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Scotti1.f4v" title="Hitachi Z350F" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Scotti2.f4v" title="Hitachi Z350F" />

  • Best technique for playing back video through LCD projectors

    I recently created a  15 minute project in CS4.  I burned it to a DVD and it plays smoothly on a computer and DVD player.  I had a auditorium full of people and used a laptop to play the DVD to the LCD projector and the video was stuttery - fast motion, correct motion, and back again.  It was not horrible, but I noticed it.  What is the best workflow to output the highest qualtiy and best playback to projector?  I started with HDV footage and downsampled it to MPEG-DVD.  I customized the preset to max at 8 and target at 5.  Would flash look and work better?  I don't know what make and model the projector was because it was mounted to the ceiling.  I noticed this behavior once before on a different projector, same laptop.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Target at 5 is pretty low, unless you are over 110 minutes duration. Since you mentioned only 15 minutes it is definitely too low.
    Did you use this DVD-HQ  Bitrate & GOP calculator ? That will give you much better quality.

  • What is the best option for generating .wmv video working on Mac?

    I am working on a mac. I need to generate my output in .wmv. I am exporting as .mov then using MacX converter to convert to .wmv. The quality degrades too much. What is the best way to generate .wmv?
    Thanks in advance.

    YOur statement is way too generic and vague. You have not provided any exact settings,  version info, details about the footage etc. That asude WMV is a compressed format and wil always degrade.

  • Best option for video conferencing in ios app ?

    I want to implement video conferencing in ios app. what is the best option for this?

    There are several: Fuze, Webex, are a few. These two also have desktop components. Try looking in the app store and googling to see if you can also find reviews/suggestions and other options on the web.

    I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

    Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

  • Best options for uncompressed HD master?

    I've just finished my first feature-length project in HDV on FCP, and I have some questions about output. In the past I've always been editing SD DV under 60 mins, so master output was always easy. But between the HDV and the 90 min. run time, things are a little more complicated.
    We shot and edited in native HDV 1080/60i. We've rendered our final master sequence in HD ProRes, but I don't know where to go from here. These are my main questions:
    1. My primary distribution is going to be SD DVD, but I want to keep an uncompressed HD master file backed up on multiple hard drives. What's my best output option for such a file? Can I just export a self-contained QT in sequence settings? Will that apply compression I don't want? Is there a better output option in Compressor?
    2. Keep interlaced or deinterlace? Again, most people will be seeing this as an SD DVD.
    3. I'd also like to get a local video outfit to make an HD tape master for more secure long-term archiving. What tape format is recommended?
    4. Question I should have asked but didn't? Please, do tell.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    The absolute best quality that you are going to get is by exporting a QT movie using current settings and making it self contained. Since you shot and edited in an HDV sequence this will add no further compression (remember that HDV is already heavily compressed).
    Uh-oh. That's not actually correct.
    HDV is relatively unusual as shooting formats go, in that it's a GOP format, as opposed to an I-frame format. In I-frame formats, each frame of footage (or pair of fields, if you're shooting interlaced) is compressed all by itself, independently of all other frames (or field-pairs). But in a GOP format, a number of frames are compressed together — that's what "GOP" means: "group of pictures." The first frame is compressed independently, then the next frame is described in terms of what's different from the previous frame.
    When you edit HDV +and then export it as HDV again,+ whether to videotape or to a Quicktime, the GOPs must be "conformed." As you edit, you make cuts that break the GOP structure, so the timeline cuts from the middle of one GOP to the middle of another without including the first frame on which that second GOP depends. So when you export or lay off, Final Cut has to go through and convert a bunch of I-frames to B- or P-frames, and convert a bunch of B- or P-frames to I-frames.
    In essence, exporting or laying off HDV imposes a compression hit. You will reduce the quality of your footage.
    Since the question was about the best option for mastering, HDV is +definitely not it.+ Would it be okay? That depends on the footage, and on how picky you are. But it's not the best option. The best option is to master to a (ha ha) mastering format. Uncompressed 8-bit, Uncompressed 10-bit and ProRes are good choices here.
    As for tape … that's tougher. You can absolutely send an uncompressed or ProRes Quicktime file to a dubbing house and get it laid off to videotape, but the question is to what format? HDV is a poor choice, because of the aforementioned compression hit you take when conforming the GOPs. DVCPRO HD would actually be a step down for you, because it would downsample your 1440x1080 native footage (or your 1920x1080 master, if you chose to upres) to 1280x1080.
    That leaves HDCAM and HDCAM SR. If you've done things like color correction or compositing in a 10-bit color space — or even long-slow dissolves to or from black, which is one of the places where 8-bit really falls apart on you — choose HDCAM SR. HDCAM is an 8-bit format only, and you'll lose color precision if you go to that format. But if you stayed 8-bit all the way through your workflow, then you can go to HDCAM without any real problems.
    Note that both HDCAM and HDCAM SR +are compressed formats.+ Your only option for uncompressed HD videotape is D6, and good luck finding a Voodoo recorder nearby. But HDCAM and SR are good enough for professional mastering, so they'll surely be good enough for you as well. And they're both available in 94- and 124-minute lengths, so you can master your whole feature on a single tape.
    (While you're at it, consider getting your uncompressed or ProRes master file dubbed off to a data tape format as well. You worked really hard on this project, so it makes sense to be a little paranoid about preserving the fruit of your labors.)

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

    I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
    Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
    So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
    First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
    All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
    Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
    All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
    Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

    I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • Best option for optical au

    Hey guys,
    just a query - i have an audigy 2 ZS currently, and a high end yamaha 7. amplifier.
    what im wanting to do is connect this up via optical .. its currently connected via RCA and it seems to get confused as to which is the sub and which is the centre, despite me trying all combinations of cabling.
    so i thought an optical wire from soundcard to amplifier would be the best way ?
    i've read somewhere that if i do this, and play 2. audio (mp3s), my rear channel will be disabled ? surely thats not true ? - reason for saying this is i've seen home theatre setups where a CD player is hooked up to an amp via optical, and it still produces audio through the rear channels.
    whats the best option to run this via optical ? do i need to purchase a new sound card ? if so, what is the best option for me ?
    id rather quality than cheaping out on something that 'will do the job', but options are always welcome
    mostly i listen to music with a bit of bass, i dont do a whole heap of gaming, so i guess music is the focus.
    Thanks !

    ReaperZ,
    The center is on the nominally-left-channel RCA, so the likely-red-coded, nominally-right-channel RCA is your subwoofer connector.
    I don't have the same soundcard model, and I can't give you blow-by-blow detail, but try looking in the Bass Management tab of the Speaker Settings control, or you may find something in the THX Setup Console, for bass redirection. You should at least find subwoofer volume and crossover-frequency sliders, and you also might find a center volume control. I'm a proponent of running all soundcard volumes at 00% and controlling listening volume and speaker balance at the amp, since this maximizes the digital SNR, but it can also be less convenient.
    Run through the receiver manual's troubleshooting section for "No sound from the center speaker" and "No sound from the subwoofer" just to rule out a setting problem on the receiver side.
    Then use "Manually adjusting speaker levels" on pg 45 of the receiver manual, with? MULTI CH IN selected on the remote control, to max the SWFR level (+0dB). Most receivers have separate level settings for their multi-channel input, so it is usually advantageous to provide the +0dB boost this way so it is in effect only when using the soundcard. This boost can be increased further by lowering all of the other settings the same number of dB's: if you subtract dB from all of the others, the effect is to increase the relati've subwoofer volume by dB.
    Try using this information and let us know what happens.

  • Best option for remote downlinking

    I am going to be streaming video/audio to some clients all over the US, all of which will be using PC's.
    90% of the time they are going to be in locations where a hardline to the internet isn't possible.
    What is the best option for them to access my stream as well as provide me back a webcam feed?
    Is a cell phone card as good as it gets now?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Your options here are entirely and completely dependent on the local network services. This could include cellular data packet networks (and there are various flavors), WISP, satellite data (Iridium, GlobalStar and such), dial-up at speeds anywhere from roughly 50 kilobaud down to unusable, local WiFi networks, or otherwise.
    Satellite networks are the most pervasive, though do have technical limits and do have among the highest of the high prices. I'd not want to stream video (on a budget) on such networks.
    If these clients are going to be located are fixed sites or specific geographic areas, you can potentially set up backhaul wireless networks. If local network coverage is bad (and the local terrain allows it), you can potentially set up your own WISP, and provide coverage for yourself and potentially others.
    If this is the United States, you're going to encounter some rather severe limitations and network fragmentation outside the metropolitan areas. Inside the metropolitan areas, there are almost always options. Outside those areas, you'll find that some countries will tend to have more pervasive network services, and better wireless coverage. (DSL and cellular data coverage is very far from pervasive locally, and this is located in one of the most populous counties in a small US state. And the local geography is not particularly amenable to a WISP operating on a budget.)

  • Using ControlBarSample to Play Multiple Videos

    I'm trying to modify the ControlBarSample to play multiple videos and I'm running into a wall. I've made a few simple modifications to the control bar sample to try to play a second video file. The problem I'm having is the control bar doesn't have a reference to the new video I play and therefore can't update it's view. I'd like to be able to remove the video element playing in the ParallelElement and add a new child MediaElement and have the controlbar refresh it's reference to the new target. Also the controlbar shouldn't have to reload itself, but should stay right where it is in the display list and in the root parallel element. Can someone guide through this? Here is my simple modification to the ControlBarSample class as a starting point.

              //private static const pluginResource:URLResource = new URLResource("http://mediapm.edgesuite.net/osmf/swf/ControlBarPlugin.swf");
              private static const pluginResource:PluginInfoResource = new PluginInfoResource(new ControlBarPlugin().pluginInfo);

    It appears that this may be accomplished more easily if I do something similar to the StrobeMediaPlayback implementation. Looking at the StrobeMediaPlayback source code it looks like Adobe has done something a little different than their ControlBarPlugin, placing the controlbar and root media element inside separate MediaContainers and then adding those containers to the display list. Is this recommended over using the frameworks ParallelElements? If so, is communication between the control bar and root media element still a matter of just updating the target reference via metadata?

  • Best Practice for using multiple models

    Hi Buddies,
         Can u tell me the best practices for using multiple models in single WD application?
        Means --> I am using 3 RFCs on single application for my function. Each time i am importing that RFC model under
        WD --->Models and i did model binding seperately to Component Controller. Is this is the right way to impliment  multiple            models  in single application ?

    It very much depends on your design, but One RFC per model is definitely a no no.
    Refer to this document to understand how should you use the model in most efficient way.

  • Best practice for running multiple sites on 1 CF install?

    Hi-
    I'm setting up a new hosting environment (Windows Server 2008 Standard 64 bit VPS  configuration, MySQL, IIS 7, CF 9)

    Given this environment, is anyone aware of any gotchas within the setup of CF 9 on IIS 7?
    Thank you in advance,

    There's nothing wrong with that approach. You can run as many IIS sites as you like against a single CF install.
    As for installing CF on IIS 7, I recommend that you do the following: install CF 9 without connecting it to IIS, then installing the 9.0.1 upgrade and any hotfixes, then connecting CF to IIS using the web server configuration utility. This will keep you from having to install the IIS 6 compatibility layer that's needed with CF 9 but not with CF 9.0.1.

  • Best setup for playback of video in Keynote?

    I use keynote on a daily basis and find inserting video elements can cause sputtery playback and even flash frames?!! which can be a bit of a problem on a 14meter screen!!
    What is the ideal set-up for playing back video in keynote? I see that the video plays fine in quicktime but as soon as you inbed in keynote you get splutters and the odd flash frame.
    Is there a recommended codec - max size/dimensions - prefured system configuration - hardware recomendations... I see I'm not the only one to have these problems...
    Keynote is a great advancement over powerpoint and should be developed further, even a “designer” edition with more complex design/motion features for us that would like to push the bound’s…. THINK AFTER EFFECTS...
    Thanks,

    I had this problem and it drove me batty. Went to Apple store and 'stumped the stars' with the issue. We tried changing compression to make video smaller, etc to no avail. Sometime video would even lock up.
    I found the solution on this discussion board. Can't recall who to thank. I put the Keynote on an external drive to my MacBookPro. Now it worked much better. Occasionally I will get a short milli-second flash, but no sputtering or no locking up. So I just carry a 80GB external drive with me with my lecture on it an it works great. If you figure out how to get rid of the random flash let me know, on your 14 meter screen it will look like a nuclear test!
    I think what happens when you drive an external projector, in addition to showing the instructors version on your MBP, it is simply too much for either RAM or hard drive to deal with fast enough. So when you put the presentation on an external drive it takes that load off your internal drive. Maybe that is not what really happens but sort of sounds logical. Let me know if it works for you, and let me know if you get (and later solve) the random flash
