Best output out of Logic Pro Technical Annlylist

Hi, we are currently running the Tascam Fw1884 mixer in one of our studios and wanted to know if there is a better alternative audio interface that can preview sounds from the application better.
We are running Mac G5 with Logic pro and use headphones from time to time to listen and create our mixes. So from the application (logic pro) to the Tascam Fw1884 to our headphones (Sennheiser 280 pro) to our ears, is this the best possible alternative output from the 1884 or should get something else?
I know there are many different mixers/audio interfaces on the market today but as far as getting "the best possible output sound from the application" is there any additional equipment upgrades we should explore or update to?
our connection from the fw is monster cabel firewire.
please let us know your technical analyst.
cheers

Hi,
What, specifically, is wrong or lacking in your current setup?
Monitoring on headphones on pretty much any interface will yield about the same results. Changing an interface to go on headphones again on the next one is not exactly a good idea. It is akin to changing your old VW car to a Ferrari, only to keep driving at 25mph. In other words, a total waste of money.
So, here goes yet another answer of "no you don't need to"...
Cheers

What's the best Mac to run Logic Pro 9 and above with no issues?

Any Mac that can happily run OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9.1.5.....
Note: Newer Macs cannot run Snow Leopard because SL doesn't provide hardware support for the newer hardware found in these newer Macs....
Next best combo for newer Macs is Mavericks 10.9.5 and Logic Pro 9.1.8... but it is nowhere near as efficient a combo as the previous one mentioned...

I brought my mini to a mac genius to fix a ram problem but now logic pro only comes out of the hdmi T.V. garage band and youtube work great
one thing I did notice is logic pro does'nt have the usual red yellow green dots on the left top but a dot - + in the circles??? I tried reboot and I tried all audio options.

When you say you tried all of the audio options... what do you mean?

  • Best workflow for editing Logic Pro 8 regions/tracks in Soundtrack Pro?

I've searched for a solution for the below question in several forums and to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help!
What is the easiest workflow for editing Logic Pro 8 audio files with Soundtrack Pro 2? And I'm thinking of a process very similar to the Final Cut Pro timeline audio-to- Soundtrack Pro Audio File project workflow.
I'd imagine that a good amount of the time, I'd be editing regions rather than full audio files -- as in, once in a while, while mixing sessions that another engineer has tracked, I'll hear clicks and pops from pre-amps clipping; or I'll hear an air conditioner blower running or something.
Basically, I occasionally hear noise in the arrange window while mixing that I'd like to edit out with Soundtrack Pro, and I need to know the easiest way to send that audio clip to Soundtrack Pro and then back to Final Cut Pro.

Connecting your FS Mobile to powered speakers will not increase latency. Latency is simply the fixed amount of time it takes for your computer to process sounds. Once the sound is processed and available at the outputs of the FS Mobile, it can go anywhere; to a PA mixer, a separate monitor mixer, headphones, etc. One thing you will want to consider when playing live is to have a personal monitor very close to you and pretty loud. The reason being is that the physical distance between you and the main PA speakers will itself induce a type of latency since sound travels at about 1126 ft/sec or 1000 msec of delay for every 1126 feet. Adding this delay to your latency could make holding a groove or pitch for that matter nearly impossible. The delays add up pretty quickly. For example, if your speakers are say 50 feet away from you, you would likely have around 20 msec of delay right there. Add this to your system latency of 20 msec and your up to 40 msec which is like trying to play a rubber guitar underwater. Even if your PA speakers are closer, the delays add up quickly. So having that nice loud monitor right up next to you will insure that you only have to get the feel of your system latency.

  • When installing Logic Pro 8, "skip" is enabled/greyed out on Logic Pro Box

    Hey all
I'm trying to install Logic Pro 8 for the first time on on iMac, however when i get to the custom install options, the "skip" box next to Logic Pro is enabled, and greyed out, and i can't change it, therefore i can't actually install Logic. I can install main stage, compressor etc, but not logic.
Any ideas? I have no trace of previous installations on my system as its never been installed with this set up of snow leopard, but i have double checked everywhere in my prefs, application support etc.
I'm confused and its very frustrating!

Use Pacifist to install it manually.

  • No Midi In or Out from Logic Pro on MacBook Pro. Worked fine on my G5...

Hi, I've recently bought a Macbook Pro (Unibody) to replace my old G5. I've reinstalled Logic Pro 7 and the Midi drivers for my MIDISPORT 4x4.
The Midisport active LED pulses as it should when idle, and the LEDS on the MIDISPORT flash when receiving MIDI in but I can't hear anything in Logic. Logic has also stopped transmitting MIDI out. So as it is I can't play any virtual instruments on the Mac, nor can I even play my hardware gear, there is just nothing!
I've checked and rechecked the settings but no luck. It all worked fine on the G5.
This is really frustrating as I need the Mac to do some live gigs and at the moment I've got a £900 paperweight. Any advice gratefully received.

Have you reinstalled the drivers on your Macbook?

Oh yeah, scrap that, it says you did.
Also are you trying to power it from the laptop, if it has an ac adapter port, you may need to plug that in too, it might not be getting enough power from the laptop.
Actually scrap that too, I've just had a look it's solely USB

What's the best way to run logic from external hard drive

Logic is designed to run from your Applications folder. I suspect if Logic was moved to an external drive, it might not be able to locate its assets, like loops and libraries.
As long the necessary files are in the correct places on the boot disc, you can run the Logic application itself fom wherever you like. It would not be recommended however, and there would be very little benefit (if any) in doing so.

  • Check This Out - from Logic "PRO" Manual

This is taken directly from Logic's manual p. 429/LogicPro7 Reference Manual:
    Consolidate Selected Songs
In These days of big, fast hard disk drives, it's remommended that all files used by a song be stored in a single folder. Within that folder, standardized structure for every song is desirable.
What if one works with 64 tracks at a Sampling Rate of 96KHZ or 192KHZ!!! However, now I know why logic pro 7 has such a bad disk allocation system where one cannot freely define where he wants to record!

settle down, you are being annoying. it bugs me when people get a beef about the word 'pro' and what that words means to them and thus feel legitimised to blither on about a program's weaker areas as though it by rights disqualifies it from being qualified as usable by professionals.
logic, you may have noticed, is not as advanced and solid as a multi-track recording system as a protools HD system. but, you should also have noticed that it's a program primarily intended for other types of use. as far as composition and music production goes, protools makes me laugh. logic is vastly vastly superior in every conceivable way for this purpose. but you'll never hear me complaining that protools is therefore a non-professional platform.

  • Need Recommendations on Best Used Mac for Logic Pro

    Hi --
I am running Logic 8 on a mirrored door G4 (dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC), and am starting to run into some limitations on number of tracks and plug-ins. There is a used Mac outlet near me, and I am considering doing a trade-in, but wanted to know folks opinions on what might be the best bang for my buck on a newer used Mac.
I typically run about 10-15 audio tracks, and a typical/reasonable number of plug-ins (eq, compression, reverb). I was also thinking about using a tower versus a notebook, as I am set up that way now, with my G4 isolated in a closet and cabled out to my mixing station. Fan noise from the computer is a factor, though. (Though I have put up with the noisy G4 for quite awhile!)
    Current used market includes"
    - Power Mac G5/2.0 GHz dual processor (around $1500)
    - Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Quad Core (around $2200)
    - Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Dual Core (refurb for $2000)
Assuming same RAM, any experience-based opinions on what might be a good price-performance choice? Thanks in advance.

    blayzay wrote:
To my knowledge G4 1.25 is far superior than a G5 2.0 any day except for the noise of the fan, which is way better on that G5.
    Fr.BlayZay.
As an owner of both a MDD 1.25x2 and a G5 2x2.0 I have to disagree with blayzay and say that the G5 will give you far far more DSP power than your current G4. The G4 is a good machine but the G5 is in a different league.
You might also want to be aware that the G5 2x2.0 PCI will work happily with your Powercore PCI...you will need to purchase a new Powercore card if you plan to use this with one of the Intel machines.
One other thing you should consider is that you will also have to update all of your apps & plugins if you go for one of the Intel machines. This can be a real pain if you rely on plugs such as Spectrasonics or some of the more esoteric music apps...

  • Best soundcard/comverters for logic pro 7

I am about to switch from pro tools to logic and ive heard there is a bad latency with the mbox and logic. which cards can be recommended as the best ones to use as far as converters and latency go. I dont need preamps because i will be using my own so it must also have adat link.

  • What is the best way to remove Logic Pro 9 after installing X?

That's the question. I did not install all the extra content from the boxed set of Pro 9.
I read once that removing these pro applications wasn't as simple as just dragging the Application icon to the trash.

On my Mac Pro where there really are Logic projects I have left it. On a laptop I have no projects and have one copy of Logic for perusing and learning and toying with. It's that laptop I want to remove Logic 9 from.
Google gets you a list of about 25 things you should manually remove including receipts and god-knows-what.
A call to Apple yesterday got me an agent who really didn't know and sent me an info article she said would tell me exactly. It literally said to remove the Preferences file. It was a troubleshooting document!
But after a little frustration on my part she put me on hold. When she came back she said the new one would use resources of the old and so I should only delete the icon of the Application itself. It's only 800 or so MB as compared to the 30 GB or so of the original install. I thought the sounds in X were new and didn't want so many files hanging around.
But I did only that, I trashed the Application icon only. And it took quite awhile to actually delete with a progress bar going across very slowly. Perhsps it took along many other things. I should have checked the total space remaining before and after.
But really the question is still unanswered. For instance; Logic Node. Do I need that for X only? I'm sure there are many others. It's crazy Apple's tech faked her way through.

  • MOTU 828Mk3 & Logic Pro's default audio outputs

Hello people! Well, I received my MOTU 828Mk3 a couple of days ago and am very pleased with it so far, sonically much better than the Mk2 however I'm slightly frustrated with the default audio out in logic pro. The 828 is set-up fine with the default audio out set to master out, itunes etc all work fine but within logic pro the default output is analog 1-2, the master outputs are 9-10. So every-time I create a new project I have to select 9-10 as the output, I can live with that but if you drag any samples/loops into a project the output of the new track defaults to analog 1-2, bit of a pain. So my question is - Is there any way you can tell logic to use a default pair of outputs?
    Cheers
    Paul

You should be able to set the main outputs to be 1 and 2 in the MOTU setup app. I've done that with my 896mk3 and it works as expected. It just means that the outputs 1-8 on the unit are actually 3-10 in Logic.

  • Multiple output ultrabeat logic pro x

I am currently using Logic Pro X and I was wondering how do you set the multiple output to mono in the ultrabeat.
In Logic Pro 9 there was a mono option under the channel fader but I can't seem to find the mono option for the Ultrabeat in mutliple output mode in Logic Pro X. Can someone help me out with an answer please.

I've been running Mavericks for a while now, and Logic both X and 9 run great. I haven't experienced these specific bugs, so can't guarantee that upgrading will help you, but the word on the street is that Logic runs better in Mavericks. Personally, I'd recommend upgrading to Mavericks. Just my $0.02.
Before upgrading, be sure to backup your drives. Clone your system drive using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. If not that, at least run a full Time Machine backup.
