Best pc utility to manage the iphone 4

Hi there,
just trying to find a good utility to manage my iphone 4s because I am a pc and not a mac user really.
I mean something which help me to transfer contact from my old phone etc.

iTunes is the number one utility for managing your iPhone. You'll need to get the contact information from your old phone in to whatever contact manager you use on your computer. Then, you can set up syncing to your iPhone with iTunes.

how dead is your computer?
Did the system drive survive? You could get try to remove the drive from the mac and have it put into an enclosue, so you can use it as an external drive.
But if the system drive is dead as well, I do not see a way to read the data on your dead computer.

Best part about VZW getting the iPhone

The best part about VZW getting the iPhone is now when it is time for me to get a new phone I will not have to worry about any backorder for the Android phone of my choice since half the people on smart phones will want an iPhone for some unknown reason.
The bad part will be that I can never step foot in a VZW store again because it will be filled with people that have either never owned an iPhone and will eventually realize they are not any better than other phones now a days but will demand to know where the magic is or people who have owned one before and find out it wasn’t just AT&T’s network that was the problem it truly was the phone as well.
Of course not stepping foot in a store again is really not that bad.

Best practices for Email on the iPhone

As a new iPhone user, before I do something disastrous (I once wiped out an email account completely when trying to use IMAP after delete stuff in one place and having the effect synched everywhere), I am wonder how best to use email on my iPhone.
I use Mail.app on my Mac. If I want to check for new email, and possibly respond, but not affect my usual Mac email downloads later on, is there a best way to set things up so I retrieve my email but leave it on the server for later download when I'm at my Mac? I am hesitant about switching everything to IMAP.
Or... is there a better way? How do most people set it up?

One followup point regarding this. I didn't set up my Gmail account via the iPhones Mail client. It was set up automatically for me when I did my first synch and I said it was ok to synch email accounts.
However, my Gmail account on my Mac inside Mail.app is NOT set for IMAP - it is POP3.
So it appears that the iPhone not only sets your Gmail account as IMAP when setting up in the client by choosing the Gmail option, but that it also OVERRIDES the settings when synching the account information from your Mac, turning a POP3 account into an IMAP account.
I guess the only way of turning it back to POP3 would be to delete that account on the iPhone and create another one via the "Other" account setting.
But it seems to be working well as is.
I think it is safer to have one "master" account (like on my main computer) that is POP3 and doesn't synch with all the other accounts. I had a disastrous experience once with IMAP and lost all of an account's email because of the synching. Since then I prefer to use POP3 on my main account and keep all my email offline - and also constantly backed up with Time Machine.
I also have my main mail set to "archive when downloaded" from Gmail, so there is yet another backup that way.

The BEST solution for gmail on the iPhone

OK, so after much poking around, I finally figured out the best solution for using gmail on the iPhone: IMAP support.
While I think Google is still rolling this out to all users, once you get it, USE IT! It basically keeps your mail app synced with gmail, and even supports the use of folders/labels.
To see if your gmail account is ready for IMAP, go to the settings option in gmail and see if one of the tabs says "Forwarding and POP/IMAP." If you don't have IMAP available on your account yet, it won't say IMAP.

I hope this helps out everyone as much as it's helped me. I was a little frustrated before using POP, but gotta love IMAP! I'm not too sure the impact that this has on your battery life, but so far it's working well for me. Enjoy!

Gmail and IMAP have totally change my tune about the iPhone's email abilities. I was getting frustrated with the inability to reliably get mail (Message has not been downloaded...), sync (have to delete mail from both iPhone and desktop Mac), etc., but now I have all my POP email accounts automatically forward to my Gmail account, and I only check Gmail with the iPhone and MacPro. So far, it's a whole new iPhone experience! No more errors - ALL mail comes through perfectly - and no need to manually sync!
Note that, when setting up the Gmail/IMAP accounts, do NOT simply update your old POP Gmail settings on your Mac or iPhone! Start with a FRESH new account. I couldn't get either the iPhone or Mac to work until I started with a fresh account.
Also, I was unable to send mail from the iPhone using the smtp.gmail address, so I had changed the outgoing mail setting to use my regular ISP's smtp address. But, at some point (a few minutes later or a few hours, I don't know) when I checked the Gmail settings on the iPhone, it had magically changed itself to smtp.gmail, with the port number, and it has been working perfectly ever since! Maybe IMAP can atomatically correct this info? Not sure.

Follow these directions exactly. This is a necessary set of steps in order to make your iPhone and Mac sync correctly, so that trashed mail on the iPhone will go in the trash on your desktop Mac, etc. It's pretty freaky to check email on the iPhone, and then go to your Mac Mail a few minutes later, and see all the newly trashed (or saved/read) emails perfectly synched up!
A final note. Once this is all working and synching, remember that if you delete an email on your iPhone, it gets deleted on the desktop Mac Mail as well (and vice-versa)... which is exactly what you want to happen, but I find that I have to remember to keep the mail that I want to save on the iPhone's inbox until I get back to my desktop Mac. Otherwise, I have to manually remove it from the trash to save it!

I would like to write a utility similar to "iPhone Configuration Utility". This would be slightly customized for our enterprise. I tried to look for APIs in iPhone but it is not possible to do it from an iPhone app. I tried to search for APIs and objects that the iPhone Configuration Utility or iTunes uses, But when I try to see details of that it asks for user name and password.
Can someone tell me is it possible to access the methods that iPhone Configuration Utility uses ?
What subscription/program do I require to do this?
Do I need to sign up for Mac OS developer program?

All you need to create iPhone configuration profiles is the *Enterprise Deployment Guide's* *Appendix B*: *Configuration Profile Format*. Since the .mobileconfig is just another plist/XML formatted file, you should be able to use any programming language and IDE to take user input and write it out as a compliant XML file. After that you can use any of the methods listed in the Enterprise Deployment Guide to push it to the phone, i.e. post it on a (properly secured) web site, send it by email or use the Config Utility to apply it. There's also the OTA deployment method as described, albeit it tersely, in the EDG.

After looking around at many brick and mortars and online stores, I settled on a Sena Hampton Flip in tan leather. Looks GREAT with the white 4S. I'm really happy with the purchase but can think of a couple minor modifications I'd like to see they incorporate into the case to make it work even better.

Sounds like you are a bit confused with version numbers.
Latest AirPort Utility version for the iPhone / iPad is 1.3.3. There is no option or capability to export/import settings on the iOS version(s) of AirPort Utility.....although you could take a series of screen shots and save them for future reference.
AirPort Utility 6.3.x is found on a Mac.....not on iPhone / iPad. Export and Import options are found under the File menu in 6.3.x.

Problem with wired headsets is that there is not std for mic in headsets so if its not 100 % made for iphones it will not work

The best free mac video converter for iphone please?

So far i used to add my avi files to my itunes library on my mac using movie2itunes. then i would right click on the movies and choose 'create iphone version'. i was expecting the video size to go down as the resolution and screen size of the iphone is much smaller compared to the resolution of the original avi file and the screen size of my macbook. so for all reasons it had to encode lesser data into the new file. instead, it keeps the same resolution! and while the original size is a mere 300mbs for 60 minutes of videos the new encoded file is a 550 mbs!
so i think using itunes for video conversion is not a very smart way of utilizing space on the iphone. can u recommend me some good, preferably free, video conversion software for mac which is smart enough to convert movies (especially avi) to iphone format and also NOT increase the size, if not decrease it!

Mpeg Streamclip is nice because of options and its free, but I would use iSquint. Its FREE and it converts in very nice quality, with basic options. Trust me it will cover your converting needs. But if you wanna download vids from Youtube and stuff, I would use mpeg streamclip too. Both together are a nice converint combo. I hope I helped:)?

I just realized I can get the iPhone 4S...

I am with Verizon and my contract is up. I am also due for what they have or used to have caled New Every Two, which on my line is a $50 credit. I do not think I can get applecare through verizon. I saw today that I can get the iPhone 4S 64GB at the Apple Store and get Applecare. I probably will not get the $50 discount, but dealing with Verizon is not worth it. Has anybody who is with Verizon specifically (although you can do this with ATT, Springt, & Verizon) done this? Was it a good expereince? On the website Apple makes it sound like they will do anything for your business, but I am really sick of Verizon's crap.

so with the applecare for the iPhone they still charge $49 service fee? That seems odd since applecare is so expensive. They should not charge a service fee and just leave it at up to 2 incidents. A friend of mine went in to Best Buy and got the iPhone 4S and a really good price on the plan. I forgot to ask how much they charged her for the phone, but I think Sprint has the best plan with the unlimited and after reading the fine print it looks like Sprint gives the most "unlimited"data,texts, etc. Verizon gives the least this would be a case wwhere since it is not a 4G LTE service, Sprint by be the best plan to get for the iPhone. with anything 4G I think Verizon has done a great job with their network but they charge so much for anything 4GLTE.
I was going to get one of those 4G mobile hotspots like the Verizon MIFI and I think they have a Samsong device too. I had their MiFI2200 3g and that was really cool when you would travel on a road trip, hook your MacBook up to this device and surf the web. I heard their 4G LTE using one of those devices in most place is blazing fast.

Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
