BEST PERFORMANCE SIS AGP DRIVER

Which one do you guys think performs the best??
I'm guessing 1.09F cause i tried 1.09M and 1.09F gave me a higher score in 3dmark.
How about 1.08d?

I downloaded the 110's and went from 89xx to 93xx (can't remember exact numbers).  I was using 109f.

  • Can't update my AGP driver MSI 648 Max-L

Hello, I have the MSI 648 Max-L (SiS 648 motherboard).
When I try to update the SiS AGP driver from 1.13 to anything newer (the latest is 1.16a), nothing happens. The installer fails to run.
    What seems to be wrong?
    Specs:
    WinXP SP1
    MSI 648
    512MB PC2700
    Radeon 9700Pro
    Thanks in advance!

  • MSI 648F NEO SiS AGP trouble/wont detect nvidia FX5200

    Hi!
I recently did an emergency build using the 648F Neo (my old syntax board died).  Everything went well, but when I went online I noticed my graphics were very choppy.  I checked my Display settings and noticed that my nvidia fx5200 wasn't even being recognized!
I went to the Device Manager, and saw that the 5200 wasnt listed their, either.  However, I did notice that under "System Devices" there was a listing for "SiS Accelerated Graphics Port", and this listing had the yellow-dot-with-an-exclamation-point warning attached to it.  However, when I right clicked on it, and checked the driver, it listed the driver as "5.1.2600.2180" , with a driver date of "12/9/2004".  I used the driver off the Cd, and off the MSI website, but with no different result.
The device manager also provides me with this info: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
When I try to download the nvidia driver, it informs that it could not detect any drivers that are compatible with my current hardware.
    Any suggestions?

    Here's where we stand:
I got rid of of the drivers i had installed, both AGP and Nvidia.
I started in safe mode, and reinstalled SiS AGP driver ver. 1.21
I then tried to install the nivida drivers.
Same result: "could not find drivers compatible with hardware" etc.,
My device driver screen shows that the Sis Accelerated Graphics Port fails to start ANYTIME I have 1.21 loaded up.  Should I try an older version?  Even if i dont try to install the nvidia drivers, I still get the exclamation point warning that the SiS AGP failed to start.

  • Optimizing system for best performance/stability and a custom kernel

I have ArchLinux running on a MacBook 4.1 (early 2008), and it's running very well so far. But I would like to optimize it for best performance and stability (but not at the cost of losing 'graphical interface' quality). I want to compile a custom kernel, and I actually did once, but didn't do it well (and removed it), so I need some help from experts to tell me what should I disable or enable when compiling a custom kernel.
I will post dmesg and lspci (and rc.conf) here, but if you need any other information, please tell me.
    Thanks.

When it comes to performance, you won't gain much by compiling linux by yourself! Just use the linux package from [core] or if you want a bit more performance, install the ck-kernel from
    [repo-ck]
    Server = http://repo-ck.com/$arch
(this has to go to the bottom of /etc/pacman.conf)
(use that one which is best for your cpu (in your case this might be the package linux-ck-corex).
Hmmm, Linux-ck-corex doesn't even load.. I am now trying to install the generic one. Hope it works.

  • AGPGART, SiS-AGP, Nvidia = Computer Lock

Whenever i have agpgart loaded as a module with sis-agp and nvidia driver set and i startx the computer freezes.. When i use nv it doesnt.. How to solve?

There are several things you can try.  The "easiest" would be to change the AGP rate you are currently using, from 8x to 4x or even 2x.  The README file NVIDIA supplies gives instructions on how to do that, while using the kernel agpgart, not NVIDIA(s) since the 760 is not supported at this time like you say.
If that doesn't work, try changing the AGP rate in your BIOS.
If that fails, can you change the "AGP drive strength" in your BIOS?  Apparently, settings of "0xEA and 0xEE" on VIA based motherboards seem to work best (str8 from the README).
If you're still intent on using the 6629 driver, try recompiling the kernel without the framebuffer entirely.  Turn it off.
Outside of that, I've ran across many an SiS related problem on the NVIDIA forums.  Some have had good luck by using a driver version before 6106.  Try grabbing an older NVIDIA driver and see if that helps.  All the newer NVIDIA versions rarely provide any performance gain at all, but are mainly targeted at the newer NVIDIA GPUs.  If you're using an older FX or even MX chipset, you won't gain anything from the newer NVIDIA drivers anyway.  On my Ti-4600, I've yet to see any performance gain from 4191.

  • What's the best specifications for 27" iMac in order to run Windows for best performance?

Hey there. I'm based in the UK and in the process of saving up for my first ever iMac (the new 27" model starting from £1699) after years of owning PC's and laptops, but now I'm finally fed up with Windows-based machines, they just don't cut it when it comes to performance and workload...etc.
I wanted to pick iMac users on the community to get clear advice on what the ideal specifications I should consider configuring my iMac when I finally get round to placing my order in March/April. I aim to run Windows 7/ or 8 via Parallels as I hear it's very good and from what video tutorials of it I've seen on YouTube it appears impressive to think the iMac can handle this at the same time as running Mountain Lion.
The ram I plan on upgrading myself manually, yes - I've sussed that one that very quickly due to Apple's extensive £400 fee to simply upgrade the iMac to 32GB, Crucial here I come!
...I digress a little. I'm torn between the Quad-core i5 and i7 as I don't want to get something that won't deliver best performance when it comes to running Windows in parallel (or coherence mode as I hear it's called). Below are some specs I've configured on 2 saved iMacs in my saved baskets.
    CONFIGURATION #1
3.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    1TB Fusion Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
    Order total: £2,019
    CONFIGURATION #2
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    3TB Fusion Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
    Order total: £2,299
I'd appreciate anybody's time and patience on this little matter. Thank you.

You don't need to go overboard on your hardware to run windows effectively.  I bootcamp win7 on a late 2008 MacBook Pro with no issues. However, for an intense windows game I boot straight into windows.  If you do not plan on gaming other than an occasional instance by your brother than this should be an acceptable solution.
One caveat is ram which you have already stated your are upgrading.
A general rule of thumb I live by is get the best you can afford now and it will prolong the need to upgrade in the future.  That being said...  The choices you have provided are all good choices.  Preference on screen size will dictate your overall decision, of course.   The need for i5 vs i7 CPU is normally not a factor for the majority of users.  If you need to save some money then by all means choose the lesser configuration as it will handle windows fine.
One place you should consider the upgrade is the video card.  Since you cannot upgrade this after purchase it is advisable to do this now.  Also, the differences between the 675mx and the 680mx are far greater than what the naming implies.
Also, as mentioned in a previous post, the 3TB fusion drive can't bootcamp windows.  There is a hack for the non-fusion version, but I have not heard of anyone getting that hack to work on the fusion drive.   There are other creative options you can implement to make this work, however, it will require an additional investment in some 3rd party hardware.  For a novice Mac user I would recommend the smaller fusion drive and external thunderbolt/USB storage as dictated by your needs in the future.

  • Best practice for # of drives for Oracle on a Windows 2003 server

I need to know what the best practice is concerning the # of drives that should be built on a Windows 2003 server to ensure best performance and most effective back up and recovery, for both the application itself and the data base.
I'm not certain, but it may be only a 32 bit machine. I'll update this once I know for sure.

We are in the process of migrating our Oracle 10 database (20G) to a new maschine.
How should we configure our disks (8 in total)?
    1. SAME: "Stripe and mirror everything"?
    2. Doc 30286.1 "I/O tuning with different RAID configurations" and 148342.1 "Avoiding I/O disk contention" say:
    database files on RAID01
redo and archive logs on RAID1
    temp on RAID1
So, what is the best practice?

  • How to connect multiple Xserve Raid for Best Performance

I like to get an idea how to connect multiple Xserve Raid to get the best performance for FCP to do multiple stream HD.

Again, for storage (and retrieval), FireWire 400 should be fast enough. If you are encoding video directly to the external drive, then FireWire 800 would probably be beneficial. But as long as the processing of the video is taking place on the fast internal SATA drive, and then you are storing files on the external drive, FireWire 400 should be fine.
Instead of speculating about whether it will work well or not, you need to set it up and try your typical work flow. That is the only way you will know for sure if performance is acceptable or not.
For Time Machine, you should use a single 1.5TB drive. It is likely that by the time your backup needs comes close to exceeding that space, you will be able to buy a 3TB (or larger) single drive for the same cost. Also, I would not trust a RAID where the interaction between the two drives is through two USB cables and a hub. If your primary storage drive fails, you need your backup to be something that is simple and reliable.
Oh, and there should be no problem with the adapter, if you already have it and it works.
Edit: If those two external drives came formatted for Windows, make sure you have use Disk Utility Partition tab to repartition and reformat the drive. When you select the drive in the Disk Utility sidebar, at the bottom of the screen +Partition Map Scheme+ should say *GUID Partition Table*. When you select the volume under the drive in the sidebar, Format should say *Mac OS Extended (Journaled)*.

  • CS4: Best use of SSD drives?

I'm considering adding an SSD or two to the mix and am wondering where I'll get the best performance bang for the buck in a NLE situation. The current box is Vista, but I may be moving to faster ponies on a 64 bit 7 box soon. Doubt there's a difference in recommendations between the two but thought I'd mention it just in case.
First, a tangent. On my Premiere Pro CS4 discs I don't see any indication of 32 / 64 bit versions, but my understanding is that both are available from the DVDs. Can anyone confirm this?
As to the SSDs, the general wisdom for overal performance is to use them as the boot / system drive to boost app load and boot time. For NLE, there are other drive considerations that come into play - the drive(s) where the source footage to be edited resides and the drive(s) that are used for temporary I/O in rendering, playback, etc. There may be other considerations as well, these are just the ones that immediately come to mind.
I'm less concerned about how long the computer takes to boot (it stays up 24/7) or how long an application takes to load, and more focused on the performance of Premiere and After Effects during eding, playback and rendering.
With that in mind, if I bought only one SSD, where would be the best place for it to serve? And if I threw caution and credit cards to the winds and bought two, where would the second one do me the most good?
As always, thanks for any insights you might offer.
    Chris

    Hi, Harm.
Reading the disk article as we speak, thanks.
Regarding CS4 being 32 bit, I recall you saying the other day that a minimum realistic system would be 12 gigs fo memory. Given the 4 gig limit in the 32 bit architecture, were you referring to CS5? Not sure how CS4 would benefit from > 4 gigs.

  • 15" Titanium PB best performance:  tiger leopard?

I recently inherited a 15" Titanium PB (Tiger, 1GHz, 512MB, 60GB HD). The computer shipped with Panther, and was upgraded to Tiger several years ago. I have the option of upgrading it to Leopard (I already have the family license for Leopard for several other computers). Obviously, the computer barely meets the specs for Leopard (memory in particular.) If I installed Leopard, I would at least give it an additional 256MB of memory.
Even considering the extra memory, would it be pointless to move to Leopard, in the big picture? My priority is to have the best performance possible either way -- the features in Leopard would be great, but I don't desperately need them. I want to start fresh completely fresh with this computer, so no backups are necessary, eliminating any upgrade-related hassles in that area. In fact, erasing the hard drive would be a great thing to do in the upgrade, if I could. Is that possible?
    Which way should I go?
    Thanks

Before you start erasing the drive to do anything consider that the computer barely meets the needs for running either Tiger or Leopard. I would look to increase RAM to the computer's maximum. There are a couple of PB models that were available with 1 GHz processors. Open System Profiler and check the machine ID. If it's 3,5 then you can expand RAM to 1 GB. If the ID is 5,2 then the maximum is 2 GBs. 1 GB would be usable with Tiger. Leopard should have at least 2 GBs.
You will also need to put in a larger and faster hard drive.
If you want to erase the hard drive then boot the computer from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer or a retail version of Tiger compatible with the model you have or a Leopard DVD installer. When you get to the section for selecting a target click on your hard drive then click on the Options button. Select Erase and Install then click on the OK button. Complete the installation.

  • What is the best choice of hard drives?

My G4 AGP.350MHz with 1.3 GHz upgrade needs an additional internal hard drive for backup. It currently has an 80 GB and 160 GB. I am moving out the 80 GB HDD to my G3 Beige. I am thinking about getting a 80-120 GB for replacement. What is the best choice of hard drives?
Will the 80 GB hard drive, with Mac OS 10.4.4 installed, run in my G3 Beige 233MHz with G4 500MHz upgrade?
    Thanks.
    Robert

"What is the best choice of hard drives?"
I'm thinking of adding a drive to my G4. I will probably put a 150 MB SATA PCI card in and get a SATA drive. Going from the ATA66 interface to the 150 SATA should be a noticeable improvement.
"Will the 80 GB hard drive, with Mac OS 10.4.4 installed, run in my G3 Beige 233MHz with G4 500MHz upgrade?"
As long as it's an IDE drive, it should work fine. Be sure you have only one of the drives set as the master, if you have more than one drive.

Using this driver causes my system to hang (the mouse pauses and would not move) for about 1 sec every time there's heavy disk activity, very annoying. This applies to the latest Sis IDE driver on their website and the same is true for their earlier driver
Also using Sandra benchmark the WinXP IDE driver outperforms the one by SiS

My "mouse hesitation" went away after I updated to the latest BIOS ver 3.2 which supports AGP fast write and replace my AGP with a better AGP video card which supports FW.
Now I don;t know if the BIOS fixes it or putting in a new AGP card does but I haven't seen the 1-second mouse hesitation anymore
Also the new BIOS fixes a screen corruption problem which I previously had with the better AGP card
