Best phone plan for security system?

When I first got Fios for my home two years ago, the Triple Play bundle was the best value for me at the time. This included Freedom Essentials.  My home phone line is only used for my home's security system.  I don't make any calls on that line. I'm currently paying $50 a month for Freedom Essentials which is ridiculous because I don't need it.  I'm wonder what the cheapest home phone plan from Verizon is that I can subscribe to instead.

Last time I looked, the least expensive Verizon phone was about $10 (as mentioned above) and did come with 25 free calls and then 4 cents per call after that.
The real question is it still POTS-like?
I'm moving to a new house, and per ADTand Brinks (Broadview) their service does not work with some Verizon products. I suspect they mean the VOIP product (Digital Voice), but I'm not really sure. They really want to see a plain old telephone service (POTS), aka twisted copper pair, to be sure the system works. I still don't know if Freedom Essentials looks like POTS.
Getting this stuff coordinated is a pain. I was all set to use Freedom Essentials, but then I was told Digital Voice would save me some money in monthly taxes. Now I'm trying to figure that out.

  • What is the best protection plan for the 5s?

I have VZW, we just upgraded our phones and got a 5s and 5c at Best Buy. I was just curious to see what protection plan you guys recommend? I have 3 choices. We purchased the phones on 12/27/13 so I don't know how much more time we have before the deadline for a plan kicks in. I have 5 choices though.
The Best Buy protection plan, Verizon Wireless TEC plan or AppleCare+, SquareTrade & Protect Your Bubble. What do you think is best?
I currently have the TEC plan from VZW. I had a HTC Rezound and the TEC plan was on that line for $8 I believe. Once I upgraded to the iPhone through BB, my plan changed to the TEC plan for the iPhone which is now $9.99 if I remember correctly. Anyways, I can cancel it anytime. My wife's phone doesn't have the TEC, that it why were trying to figure out what PP to get for our phones.  I've never lost a phone before. My HTC Rezound did break a few times. A few times it was the hardware just not working and I got a refurb sent for free. But I did break the screen 1 time and was happy that I had insurance, I only had to pay $75 versus $200 something. I only broke it once in the 2 1/2 years I had it, but it did happen. God forbid I break the iPhone screen or something, I don't have $800 for a new one.
We currently have AC+ for our iPad Air but it was a spur of the moment buy since I was in the Apple Store.
    Thanks everyone

I know the "basics" of AC, I just didn't know if any of the other insurances come close? I have a few other questions if you don't mind, don't know if you can answer them or not...
    - What are Apples claim guidelines, does the phone have to be non repairable to use a claim? What if the screen is just cracked or there is a giant dent on the side, heavy cosmetic damage? Does AC cover water damage? How does that all work?
    -  I read over at the macrumors forum that Apple can replace your iPhone without using AC? Here is the quote:
"It's worth noting that even without AC, Apple will replace your phone for $250 if you broke it and it is in no more than two pieces." Is there any truth to that statement?
    - Say I break my phone, I pay the $79 deductible, I understand that part but do I have to pay for the replacemt and if so how much? I saw that some insurances require you pay, an example, $50 deductible plus $120 for the replacement.
I know the major downside against AC is that it doesn't cover lost or stolen devices and only a total of 2 claims allowed. I've never lost any of my Android phones but I've heard iPhones are pretty high up on the theft list.
If I did happen to break my iPhone 5s or crack the screen, whatever it may be, I just want to get the fastest service possible and cheap too. I don't want to have wait 3 days or more to get a replacement and I also don't want to pay a huge amontunt of money to get a replacemt either. I have AC on my iPad Air, I bought it because I was in the store and I jumped the gun before checking out other options. Anyways, I'm about to pull the trigger and get AC for my 5s and 5c, it's just that SquareTrade has caught my attention too and I'm torn between them. I saw that ST offer 4 claims and honors lost and stole devices. I didn't think this would be suck a tough decision lol.
Again, thanks for your input and help, much appreciated

  • Best hosting plan for iMac and PC editing?

I've been using iWeb for the past year on my personal site. I love its ease of use, not to mention how great everything looks.
Now I want to start another site with a more commercial flavor. The big difference with this one, though, is that I need to be able to update my site on my iMac at home AND my PC at work. I've yet to find a hosting plan or program that will allow me to do this efficiently. I'm thinking a web-based file manager might be my best option, but maybe there is something else out there that would be better. Would FTP be better? I have some experience with file managers but absolutely no experience with FTP.
This new site will mostly be set up in a blog style (several updates each day, permalinks, etc.), and I also want to be as flexible as possible in posting ads on the site. It seems some blogging software is fairly restrictive when it comes to ad flexibility.
Anybody have suggestions as to what might work best for my circumstances? I would appreciate any help.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    I'm thinking a web-based file
manager might be my best option, but maybe there is
something else out there that would be better. Would
FTP be better? I have some experience with file
managers but absolutely no experience with FTP.
Of course you can't use iWeb for your project, because it doesn't run on PC's, and you can't update an iWeb-created site without the app and the appropriate Domain file. So you presumably need to look at a cross-platform app like Dreamweaver.
As far as uploading technology, web-based file managers provided by the host are usually very limited and not to be recommended. You should use a real ftp client to get the best results, and major apps like Dreamweaver have this built-in.
Here's a list of Mac web editors. You might check to see which other ones have Windows versions.
    http://www.pure-mac.com/webed.html
The host is pretty irrelevant if you go that route.
Another option is to do everything on a site like Blogger, where you create your pages via a browser, rather than using a local web editor.

  • What is the best backup plan for Archive Databases in Exchange 2013?

    Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 with Hybrid setup with O365.
We have On premise exchange 2013 servers with 3 copies of primary Database & Single Copy of Archival DBs.
Now we have to frame backup policy with Symantec Backup Exec which has to backup our primary & Archival DBs
In 2007 exchange, before migration to 2013, we had policy of DBs - Weekly Full backup & Monthly Full Backup
Please suggest what would be the best possible backup strategy we can follow with 2013 DBs.
That too, especially for Archiving DBs
Our Archiving Policy are - 3 category - Any emails older than 6 month OR 1 Year OR 2 Year should go to Archive mailbox.
Keeping this in mind how to design the backup policy ?
    Manju Gowda

    Hi Manju,
you do not find best practice different from the common backup guidelines, as there is no archive db specific behaviour. Your users may move items to their archive at any time as well as your retention policies may move items that machted the retention policies
at any time. The result is frequently changing content to both, mailbox and archive mailbox databases, so you need to backup both the same way. You also may handle archives together with mailboxes together in the mailbox db
Please keep in mind that backup usually means data availability in case of system failure. So you may consider to do a less frequent backup with your archive db with dependency to the "keep deleted items" (/mailboxes) setting on your mailbox database.
    Example:
    keep deleted items: 30 days
backup of archive db: every 14 days
    restore procedure:
    * restore archive DB content
    * add difference from recover deleted items (or Backup Exec single item recovery) for the missing 14 days.
So it depends more on your process than on a backup principle.
    Regards,
    Martin

  • Help with plan for new system

I was hoping to get a little expert advice on the system that I am planning on building. I was looking at picking up the "MSI Z68A-GD80 (B3)" motherboard, along with an Intel 510 SSD 120 gb drive. I am planning on partitioning the SSD into two drives, one for the max 64 gb ISRT cache, and the other with the rest of the space for the win7 prof 64 bit OS drive.
So my question is if the splitting of the SSD is possible like I mentioned?
and next, what should I pick for a data/app drive? I am not sure whether to go with my usual 2 drive raid-0 setup, or simply get one drive since I will be using ISRT. Any suggestions?
Another note, after I read about booting from USB devices, I plan on skipping the floppy drive
    Thank you for any input.

Booting of USB device can be set as a priority in BIOS.
SSD is like any HDD, just do the partitioning during setup.
RAID wise, it is up to your preference. Speed or Mirroring or Balance?

  • Best Practice/Standard for Securing and Attaching Files in a Web Service

    Thanks in advance.
Being new to Web Services as well as most of my team. I would like to know what is the best practice for transporting files via a Web Service. I know of several methods and one that seems to be the standard, but you can't really tell in this ever changing world of Web Services. Below are the options that I have found.
    1. MIME encoded the file and embed in the payload of the SOAP message
    2. SwA (SOAP with Attachments) which applies MIME attachments to SOAP. I think this is similiar to the way emails are handled.
    3. DIME (Direct Internet Message Encapsulation) similiar to MIME encoding but is more efficient
    4. MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) I really not understand this method, but it seems that this is the NEW standard. I just don't understand why.
    5. Utilize HTTPS and download the file from an accessible file server w/ a login id and password.
Is there someone out there that understands this problem and can assist me in understanding the pros and cons of these methods? Or maybe there is a method that I'm overlooking altogether.
    Thanks

JWSDP supports securing of attachments [1]and will soon support securing MTOM attachments too. [1]http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/2.0/xws-security/ReleaseNotes.html

  • Best CC Plan for 10 person graphic design class for 4 months

    Hi all,
Just wondering what the best plan would be for a 10 person graphic design class I will be teaching next semester.  We will need Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for 2-4 months only.  What would be the best deal?
I was looking at the student/teacher special offer for $19.99/month, but I can't figure out if that is just per user, or if that works for the whole classroom (which would be fantastic if that's the case).
    Thanks for your advice!

  • HEY APPLE! What are upgrade policy plans for new systems shipping with 10.4

I just ordered a brand new Xserver, thinking that there would be some policy in place for brand new computers shipping with 10.4, to get the new version of OSX Leopard Server (without having to buy a retail copy) - however to my surprise, there is nothing currently in place.
Will there be an upgrade policy soon for users who have just ordered new computers, currently shipping with 10.4??? Or should we return recently ordered items, and stop ordering new systems until they start shipping with 10.5?

Assumptions such as this one are often a recipe for disappointment and/or for extra expenses; I've certainly learned to be cautious with these.
In this case, there is a policy that has been in place (AFAIK) since the Leopard announcement.
For details on and requirements of the Leopard upgrade policy, do read the [Mac OS X Up To Date|http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate> web site.
Those folks outside the Leopard upgrade window that are upgrading to Leopard (and that don't have a separately-purchased Right-to-Upgrade) will be purchasing and ordering the upgrade. You may end up purchasing an iLife upgrade, too — if you're using it, and not already at the current release — as Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server upgrades apparently do not include an iLife upgrade.

  • Best CC plan for 21-student, high school classroom, for 2 months

    Hello everyone.
I am a high school student in a school in Slovenia, Europe. In my class, we are about to start a project where each student has to use different tools. The teacher suggested we make a small research about different possibilities, and my idea was a Creative Clout plan. I have examined the plans that Adobe offers, but none really suit this situation.
Since this project will last for about 2 months, an anual plan would be a waste of money. Also, different students would choose different tools, and the full plan would be a good choice I suppose.
There is 21 students, but probably not all of the students will join, but those who do will pay a part of the price.
My goal now is to find the cheapest way this can be done, so if you have a sollution please share it
    Thank you in advance.

  • Best care practices for macbook pro

Hi I would like to be more active in preventing issues on my macbook.  I use it constantly for school and work, and I rely on it heavily, and so I want to keep it running as best as possible for as long as possible, understanding that while some degradation is inevitable, there is a lot that is preventable.  I apologize if there is another thread like this, i did search, but didnt find anything.  thanks in advance for any feedback from those much more knowledgeable than myself.  I'm runnin:
    MacBookPro8,1
    Os 10.7.2
    2.7 ghz Intel Core i7
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B24
    SMC Version (system):          1.68f98
I'm basically looking for tips on the best diagnostics software for my system, and the best implementation of the software (run it off an external? etc) and best practices for the keeping the computer running smoothly. Thanks again. -dL

Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off-site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine.
Keep your software up to date. Software Update can be set to notify you automatically of updates to the Mac OS. Some third-party applications have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Don't install crapware, such as "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cache cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of software is useless, or worse than useless. The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be junk. The only software you should install is that which (a) directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for: creating and editing documents, communicating, playing, and so on; and (b) does not modify the way other software works. Never install third-party software of any kind unless you know how to uninstall it.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although not needed by everyone, may be useful under some circumstances, such as being on a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until recently, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous. There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it -- the attackers are always one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness -- not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable. Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. If a web page seems deceptive, it is deceptive. Any page that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a known corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. Any website that tells you that you have a “virus” or that something is wrong with your computer is rogue.
Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users, specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” “rebuilding the directory,” or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are for solving problems as they arise, not for preventive maintenance. The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party utility called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Don’t waste money on Disk Warrior or anything like it.
