We have recently redesigned our website at http://www.aljoufilaw.com/ar/ and inserted photos in the homepage and its sub-pages.
Our concern is that we want to have the photos in the best quality and with high resolution. What is the best photo format to achieve this? We had converted our photos in Photoshop to JPEG and PNG.
Does increasing the resolution in Photoshop by going to image>image size>resolution, helps the quality of the photo in the website?

No. Resolution is a print concept which has no real meaning on the web. What matters on the web is height & width in pixels (500 x 325).
Even if you save images at 300 dpi for print, they will be displayed in web browsers at 72 ppi (or slightly higher in HiDef displays).
Higher bandwidth (file size) just makes your images load very slowly with no significant gain in quality.
In Photoshop, use File | Save for Web & use the 4-up tab to compare file size with image quality. Rule of thumb on the web is to use optimized JPGs for photos and select the smallest file size you can get away with, then back off a tad.

Is there a "best" photo editing app for mac that may do a little more than iphoto? I'm interested in helping my photos to look a little better as far as lighting, contrast, etc. but not fake stuff like photoshop effects. I'm a newbie at this. Maybe I should just stick with iphoto?

I am looking for a comprehensive photo editor app.
I have downloaded FX Photo Studio Pro, but I am very unsatisfied: the actual editing tools are very limited.
I don't care about effects or frames: I need tools to reduce image size, select parts of an image, copy, paste, etc.

yes, oddly enough, I suggest FOTOR, and its FREE , ..go figure, very highly rated.
The best "almost as good as photoshop but not as complicated and easy to use" is PERFECT PHOTO SUITE 7
Pixelmator is probably the best cheap "does it all great photo APP" and many agree on that.
Acorn and Graphics converter are close runners up.
In this order
1. FOTOR (free and awesome)
2. Pixelmator
3. Graphics converter / or Acorn
4. only #4 due to cost, but great stuff,...is PERFECT PHOTO SUITE 7
The best of course is Photoshop, but its expensive and takes 100 years to learn all its functions.

I'm migrating to HDTV, and I would like to know what is the best setting to resize and do other adjustments on digital photos in PSEL.
This photos will be arranged as a slideshow and will be burned in a Blu-Ray disc and played in a HD player as a HD movie.
This is a relative new technology to consumer market and I'm having difficulties to find a good tutorial to make HD slideshows.

Here's my workflow to produce Blu-ray format DVD:
I shoot in HDV and edit into a 1080i60 AIC sequence.
Save the movie to quicktime.
Drop the movie into toast 9 with the HD plugin installed...(Toast 10 is available now)

I burn a maximum of 20 minutes on a single layer DVD at 1080p in blu-ray tab in toast on my G5 2.3 dual 4.5 Go Ram, dual layer factory installed DVD burner.
Sorry, menus are designed by roxio and there is issue with them and the looping feature, so stay with the autoplay no menu.
I play the blu-ray DVD on a Playstation 3 perfectly.
You can also burn DiVX format in toast, but the res is limited to 720p. I encountered some playback problems with this format, but it is okay on PS3.

How to disable photo-downloader for ever ?

Hi there,
after installing Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 my PC always shows an active downloader icon in the systray. I don't want this program to run for ever (or at each startup). Even deactivating is only valid until the next reboot.
How can I disable this program ?

Hi Casik,
You can disable the downloader by right clicking the icon and selecting disable. After this the icon is still visible in system tray but Downloader doe snot launch automatically.
There have been some posts in the past about removing the icon from system tray. However I have not tried the suggestions and cannot tell you for sure whether we they work.

Best photo printer for home use

My HP 3180 does not agree with the iMac, and I'm finished fighting it. I need a printer/scanner, hopefully under $200, and the most important function for me is photo printing. Speed is not a priority. Just really good photo quality. I've read Epson and Canon work well, and done hours of homework on ratings, but if anyone out there has suggestions....

Even though I have used Epson printers exclusively, for a long time, I will have to agree, somewhat, with RTF3. I have consistently had real problems trying to get the fine image I see on screen. The times when I thought I had it figured out, seemed to be answered by using the recommended Epson paper. If I used an off brand, terrible results would occur.
I now have a stylus 1400, which, by the way, is NOT listed as a supported model for the Gutenprint driver software...so I guess I'm outta luck trying that.
Yes, I agree, it is way to difficult to get great prints of photos out of the Epson, however, that does not make sense, given the fact that Epson is a top selling brand. Are all the thousands of customers unhappy with their Epson printer? Are all these issues dependant on the driver? Or the paper? Or the calibration of the monitor? Or all that stuff?
There should be a consise help page that describes how to print what you see on the screen. It should be simple, to the point, and step by step.

which is being lost due to the alternating scanline

You can't trust any YouTube downloader.
YouTube posters own the rights to their content, or at least they're assumed to. If they give permission for it to be downloaded, there will be a "Download" link on the YT page. If they don't give permission, downloading the content is copyright infringement. Any software that helps you to do something unlawful is inherently untrustworthy. If you make a habit of using such software, you're practically certain to be infected with malware, no matter what else you do.
