Best Photo Organizer?

Relatively new to Macs but have gone in with both feet and replaced all PCs in the house.
Was using Kodak Gallery - now iPhoto but iPhoto has a ton of limitations.
Ideally I would like to set up a photo repository that could be accessed by all Macs in the house. Would Adobe's PS Elements Organizer allow me to set up a central location to store locally photos (say on a time capsule) - when logging into Adobe's PS Elements Organizer on any of the Macs (on the network) it would point to this device so all Photo Organizers on each PC would be the same? And then could these photos be backed up to Adobe's online presence automatically (I realize it comes with 20GB but would have to pay for more)?
If not, any recomendations?

No, PSE won't do that. There are many, many other digital asset management programs you can look into, though. Adobe carousel is a subscription service, so you pay and pay. I think you are going to have to split the time capsule and the cloud, though. In other words, find a program you like for use on the network drive and then set that for backup to an online service.

  • Photo organization by country

I have thousands of pictures in my library but they are not very well organized, especially my old photos taken with old digital cameras. Some of these pictures have the wrong date stamp so it is not easy to make smart albums to organize by date. I'm thinking it maybe easier to make folders by country since I travel a lot and have many photos from different places.
The problem I'm having is that when I make Folders at the top level then move my projects to these folders, my photos do not show up under the project when I click on on the project, I can only see my photos if my folder is selected, why is that?
My second related question; is there a good work flow on how to best re-organize old photos, I just bought a new external hard drive (4TB) and would like to consolidate all my photos to a managed library with the same folder structure on the HD.

Welcome to the Forum. I, too, tend to move a bit and my library is arranged by Continent>Country>Project. I would be happy to chat with you about organizing your library; my e-mail is always on.
That said, I can't help you with your first question. As I mentioned, in AP3, my top, (blue) folder is Continent (eg., Africa), under that I have Countries (also blue folders)(eg, Djibouti, Cameroon), and finally, under each country come the Projects. I use the roll-of-film metaphor, so each of my Projects is basically a camera unload. Thus they are titled things like 20100704 - 4 July Party or 20091103 - Boale Falls. (The embedded date is probably just an archaic artifact as Aperture does dates automagically.)
Remember, you can use Aperture to correct date stamps. About 30% of my collection is scanned slides and they are date stamped with the day they were scanned, not the day they were taken. I am working my way back through time correcting dates.
On your larger question of overall organization, you need to grab a few Zen-of-Aperture issues. Once you get that, it is stupidly easy to do whatever you want and even change your mind. Rob Boyer ( http://photo.rwboyer.com/ )and Bob Rockefeller ( http://www.bobrockefeller.com/ ) have lots of tactical information on their websites, but you have to decide on your strategy.
On external drives: The Aperture Library has grossly three elements - previews/thumbs/versions, masters, and the indices that hold them together. You want the previews and versions on your fastest, largest drive as these are written and rewritten constantly. Normally, this will be your internal drive. (But on a MacPro, it could be a second internal drive.) Your masters, however are used much less. Kevin Doyle has provided evidence on this forum that they don't even have to be on a very fast drive. So basically, if you have lots of fast disk space, keep Aperture on your fastest internal drive. If not, look into moving your masters (which generally make up about 2/3 of your Library) onto an external drive as "Referenced Masters."
If you use a Managed library, Aperture will arrange them neatly by date of import. Remember - there is absolutely no relationship between the way your images are arranged on disk and the way they appear in Aperture. For those of us who use Managed Libraries, this is fine.
If you use a Referenced library, then your masters are whereever you left them. Again, there is no need to clean them up, Aperture will remember where you put them even if you can't. (Just don't move 'em without telling Aperture.)
If, however, you are a neat freaque, or plan to access your masters directly with other programs, then you probably DO want to organize them. Rob Boyer has a neat post on his website in which he proposes that one of the best ways to do this is, in fact, to import them into Aperture as managed, organize to your heart's content, and then, "relocate" back out on disk as "referenced." You paid for Aperture, let it help you.
    All the best,

  • I currently have iPhoto on my new 27" 17, iMac. What is the best photo editing software. I have photo shop elements on my previous mac which I liked many features.

I currently have an imac 27", i7.  I have iphoto on this computer. What is the best photo editing software to purchase or download?
On my previouw mac I had Photo Shop Elenemts and Photoshop CS3. Both of the later had features that I liked.
I am an amatuer family photographer; What is the best photo editing software. I do not think I need the power and confusion of full version photoshop.

I take it you are looking for replacements for the apps you used on a previous Mac?
I do not have Photoshop Elements, so I do not know about compatibility. But this site will tell you:
    http://roaringapps.com
Photoshop CS3 does run in OS 10.9.1. (I use it just about everyday.) You do not have to give it up.
And there is Gimp, which is free and powerful.

  • When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library.
When transferring multiple albums or a single album, the photos in the albums below are not duplicated as in taking double the storage capacity for the photos. Photos in an album or albums below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library.
This way you can view the photos in an album only by selecting the album, or all photos in all albums by selecting Photo Library. Makes more sense when transferring multiple photo albums from your computer but the same applies when transferring a single album or folder of photos.
The same applies to iTunes playlists. A song placed in a playlist is not duplicated.

  • Adobe Tools - Best Photo Format for Web Content

    Hi,
We have recently redesigned our website at http://www.aljoufilaw.com/ar/ and inserted photos in the homepage and its sub-pages.
Our concern is that we want to have the photos in the best quality and with high resolution. What is the best photo format to achieve this? We had converted our photos in Photoshop to JPEG and PNG.
Does increasing the resolution in Photoshop by going to image>image size>resolution, helps the quality of the photo in the website?
We appreciate your expert advice and opinion on this.

No.  Resolution is a print concept which has no real meaning on the web.  What matters on the web is height & width in pixels (500 x 325).
Even if you save images at 300 dpi for print, they will be displayed in web browsers at 72 ppi (or slightly higher in HiDef displays).
Higher bandwidth (file size) just makes your images load very slowly with no significant gain in quality.
In Photoshop, use File | Save for Web  & use the 4-up tab to compare file size with image quality.  Rule of thumb on the web is to use optimized JPGs for photos and select the smallest file size you can get away with, then back off a tad.
    See screenshot from Photoshop.

  • Best photo editing for mac

Is there a "best" photo editing app for mac that may do a little more than iphoto? I'm interested in helping my photos to look a little better as far as lighting, contrast, etc. but not fake stuff like photoshop effects. I'm a newbie at this. Maybe I should just stick with iphoto?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • My computer updated to Windows 8.1 and now photo organizer won't open in my Elements 12.

Windows automatically updated to 8.1 and now, the Elements 12 that I bought to work with windows 8 won't load the Photo Organizer at all.

I  have exactly the same problem!
I am attempting to run Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer on a Windows 8.1 OS and have entered the "DirectX is installed but cannot be initialized" HELL!  Per the suggestions of many, many other users apparently residing in this HELL with me I have a) clicked "off" and reclicked "on" the "Turn Windows Feature On & Off / Legacy Systems / Direct Play" option and b) verified that "Windows / System 32 / quartz.dll" seems to be a legitimate file at 1.49MB and c) rebooted my computer so many times my boots are getting worn out and d) uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Elements twice.  Does anyone here have any other suggestion or fixes for this apparently common and widespread Adobe problem that renders Photoshop Elements about 50% unusable?  Thanks.

  • Photo organization in iPhoto

I am a new Mac user from PC. I have used ACDSee as a photo organizer on the PC. All my photos are organized simply in folders with subfolders and sub-subfolders. I cannot see anyway to have a similar organization in iphoto, nor can I find a third party software similar to ACDSee for the Mac. Anybody have any suggestions/solutions? Thanks!

iPhoto has two principle organisation methods: Events and Albums.
Events are very basic and unsophisticated: they are based solely on date and time. The advantage is that this is automatic. For my money, Events are for folks who don't want to organise their pics.
Albums are where the database in iPhoto shines. You can create albums easily, put them into folders, nest folders of albums inside other folders. Add keywords to the mix and you can create smart albums and use them in the same way as other albums.
all photos (now residing in finder) were orgainized into categories with subcategories (i.e. a certain trip with subfolders showing different aspects of the trip, or photos of my family with a subcategory for different family members/pets.)
    Some methods to approach this:
    1. Start at the bottom of your folder hierarchy and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane in iPhoto. iPhoto will create an album (and Event) of the pics. File -> New Folder and name it. Drag the album to the Folder... in this way you can quickly re-create the system you have now in iPhoto.
    2. Import the pics and keyword them. Use a Who, What, Where basis. John and Mary at the swimming will yield: John, Mary, Sea, Swimming, for instance, perhaps the name of the Beach too. Doing this you can easily find all the pics you have of
    John (alone)
    John (with Mary)
    John (Swimming, alone, with Mary)
    John not swimming
    Sea
    Mary (alone)... and so on...
Add ratings, and you can quickly create albums of
    All you Favourites
    Your Favourites of John
Your favourites of Mary... and so on
You can save these into Smart Albums. (File -> New Smart Album, there are a wealth of criteria available for making Smart Albums)
Then the real plus: A single pic can be in 1, 10 or 100 albums with no wasted disk space. Albums reference the file on the HD.
This organisational power is the advantage of iPhoto. Along with preserving your original pics, lossless editing, books, calendars, slideshow and the integration throughout the Operating System.
    Regards
    TD

  • Photo Organizer app

Hi, can anyone recommend a photo organizer app they have used (particularly since the IOS6 update).   I know about Photo Manager Pro but I just want a simple app that allows me to put my photos in folders and there are tons of apps but can anyone recommend one in particular?
I guess with Photo Manager Pro, and some others that are similar, it duplicates your photos increasing space used and also makes it difficult to delete a photo from camera roll.  All I want to do is put my photos in folders.
    Thanks.

After importing all my photos to Photo Manager Pro, I deleted everything in Camera Roll.
    There's no duplication.
Note: My photos were originally transferred to Camera Roll using the Camera Connection Kit; no problem deleting them.

  • Import images into Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer from Safari

    Hi,
I recently bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac. Safari is my default browser. I wonder, has anyone seen an extension or add-on to Apple Safari 5.0 that creates a context dialog that would allow one to import an image from a web page into the Adobe Elements 9 Photo Organizer. Currently, the process of importing into Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer is both elaborate and tedious. Alternatively, am I simply unaware of some simple drag and drop method to import an image from the web into Photoshop Elements 9 Photo Organizer?

    Hi Jack
It’s just not possible on the MAC even with the better Firefox open source Web Browser.

Can anyone plz send me a best Photo editor link.. For my nokia C5 05..

    hai
Actually File to IDOC scenario is very simple.
1.Go to Integration repository,Create a Software Component Version.
2.Under that SWCV Create a Data structure for Source(File).
3.Create a Message Type, Message interface,Message mapping,Interface mapping for the file.
4.Get the IDOC structure from SAP objects Using import objects.
5.Using a sample file u can test it in the message mapping.
6.Activate all these things then and there.
    Go to Configuration
1.Create Sender Communication Channel,Sender Agreement,Receiver Determination,Interface Determination and Receiver Agreement.
2.Use File Adapter for File and IDOC adapter for Receiver in the communication channel u specified.
3.Activate all these things then and there.
4.Just create a sample file Using mapping in design and u can see a output file.
    Just look at this link:

  • Best photos across multiple catalogues

Because I have 35k photos, I have divided my collection into multiple catalogues (if I put all the photos in one catalogue everything grinds to a halt).  Is there some way to keep an album of the best photos from each catalogue on one of of my catalogues? Maybe export copies of the "best shots" album to a subdirectory and then import those files into one of my catalogues?  Or maybe combine the best shots (from multiple catalogues) into a single online album?

Some time back I had also felt a need of Catalog of Catalogs - http://bit.ly/HJ9ZQG

  • Best photo sharing site to use with aperture?

what is the best photo-sharing site to use with aperture?
    flickr and flickr export?
or are there more capable alternatives?
is there any solution to sync tags and keywords between aperture and the photo sharing site?
    thanks for any advice

i was wondering what the best service is in combination with aperture, the best service on its own for me is flickr, i like there online interface a lot.
so there is no way to have the same functionality with aperture as with iphoto from ilife08?
the demo on the .mac website shows they simply upload a gallery to .mac web gallery like here: http://gallery.mac.com/emily_parker
now when i export a web gallery from aperture its just a stupid web page with none of the interactive functions of a web gallery
but unless aperture can publish to .mac like iphoto can i will probably stick with flickr, flickr export for aperture seems also the most capable plug in for the moment compared to the export plugins for smugmug or other services.
i was really hoping to be able to use .mac like advertised with iphoto or have someone here suggest some other great service to use with aperture, i would especially like to be able to sync keywords both ways.
