Best photo scanner for MacBookk and iPhoto 6?

My winter project is to scan my old photos. Which scanner do folks recommend? I will mainly be scanning color photos? Thank you!

I've had good results with inexpensive Canon scanners.

Photos is a completely new designed photo application, designed for Yosemite and the MacOS X versions to come. Many differences are under the hood. It uses the new system libraries and frameworks for more efficient image processing on the new powerful macs, like the mac pro, it is extensible by app extensions, if other developers will add functionality, and most important, it brings integration with iCloud Photo Library. With Photos you can store your photo library in iCloud and sync it across all devices.
Some features are still missing however, and you can continue to use iPhoto, if you like. Or create a small Photos library for testing and explore Photos, while keeping your main libraries in iPhoto.

  • What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive?

What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive? I have a "somewhat" older version of iPhoto (5.0.4), and it doesn't seem to offer anything like that except during the importing phase of syncing my phone...

I wonder, is there room to transfer them to your phone, & then back to filter them?

  • I have all my photos but for some reason iphoto cannot read them?

I recently backed up all my photos and reinstalled Mac OS X 10.5.6. iphoto would not launch so I installed the iphoto Library Manager. now I can get iphoto to run but when I try to add my photos or direct it to a iphoto library I get the error message...
The following files could not be imported (they may be unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)
    I have also gotten...
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
I have gone in and tried to change the settings of the files to read/write and put in my password but then I get the " The following files could not be imported (they may be unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)" error message?
Please help. I have all my photos but for some reason iphoto cannot read them? They are jpg files.

I recently backed up all my photos
    How did you do this?
These Unable to Import and Locked Library messages are common symptoms of a damaged database file. As iPhoto Library Manager is unable to rectify the situation you'll need to do a Manual Rebuild as described in this article

  • IPhoto for iMac and iPhoto for iPad "Integration".

    Hi
I think I may have answered my own question already but as the answer is exactly what I was hoping it wouldn't be I think I'd better get it checked.
I'm on an iMac running Mavericks and the latest version iPhoto (9.5 - 902.7), I spent some time adding descriptions to a lot of the photographs and also adding quite a few keywords. I recently acquired an iPad and have installed the latest version of iPhoto for the iPad. My assumption was that if I synced my iMac iPhoto library to my iPad iPhoto library the photo descriptions and keywords (tags in the iPad version) would be replicated on the iPad.
I was staggered to find that after syncing a load of photos over to the iPad that there were no descriptions or tags/keywords transferred.
Can someone who knows about these things confirm that this is how things are supposed to work? If this is what is supposed to happen it seems to me that there is a gaping hole in the synchronisation function.
    Thanks,
    Quentin.

There is no syncing between iPhoto for Mac and iPhoto for iOS. The only thing they share is a name.
    Gaping hole seems an understatement.
iPhoto Menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Oh, and the latest version of iPhoto is 9.5.1.

  • I have updates for iMovie and iPhoto but when i try to update them i'm told To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." even though i bought it and it is on my iMac!

I have updates for iMovie and iPhoto but when I try to update them through App Store I'm told that "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." even though I bought it and it is on my iMac! Any suggestions on what I need to do?

    Hi...
Delete both apps using this utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
That will delete the apps and all associated files.
Then re download the apps. That will download the most recent version updates included.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Can i sync my mac pro with my mac book?  i mainly want to do this for iTunes and iPhoto?  I also have an iPhone and an iPad.

can i sync my mac pro with my mac book?  i mainly want to do this for iTunes and iPhoto?  I also have an iPad and an iPhone.

Do you have a local network setup either wired or wireless? If so, then have both computers connected to the network. Enable File Sharing on both computers in Sharing preferences. Select the startup drive on each computer. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and check the box labeled, Shared Folder.
You can now keep both computers in sync by using a third-party backup/sync utility that will work with a network setup such as:
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    Silver Keeper
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    Synchronize Pro! X
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Best photo scanner/printers and camcorders for MacBooks using iPhoto and iMovie

I have been trying to scan slides, first to my husband's MacBook (running 10.6.8 - our older laptop) and also to my MacBook (running 10.8.2).  Before upgrading to the newer OSs, I did this successfully a number of years ago.  I have been using my Epson Photo Stylus RX600 with it's slide template, but it scans the slides as they look in the template, not as actual photos.  I've tried searching for solutions and have read the manual carefully, but the screens I should be seeing on my MacBook are not coming up as they used to.  I fear the scanner/printer is just not compatible with the OS systems beyond Tiger.  If you have had similar problems, do you have a solution.  If this really is an incompatibility issue, what photo scanner/printers would you recommend?  I have over 5000 slides to digitalize.  I am also wanting to get a camcorder with the following features:  HD (1080i), 10 X zoom or greater, low light performance, manual exposure and focus controls, an articulating LCD screen, HDMI port, USB, and perhaps a built-in hd but SD memory too -- for under $1000.  Any recommendations?

Epson does have updates for the RX600 to run under OS X 10.7, and possible OS X 10.8. To download, you need to attach the RX600 to your MacBook, turn it on, make sure the system sees it (print a page), then run Software Update.
If that doesn't work, and you need a new all-in-one, I've had good success with Canon products for many years. They have solid operating system drivers, and a good selection of models with individual ink tanks, so I can replace a color that's empty and not throw out a 3-in-1 ink tank when one color is out.
On the camcorder, you might want to ask the question in the iMovie or Final Cut discussions.

  • Have latest updates for mac and iPhoto.  several of "events" now show as grey squares with a plan tree, no thumbnails when scrolling over as before.  Photos show when clicking on icon but not visible as a group.  What gives?

Have the latest updates on my iMac and iphoto.  Recently several "Event" folders have turned to grey with a palm tree in the corner.  Before there was a "key" photo to help identify the event.  The event title is still at the bottom of the square but no key photo.  When i click on the icon, the photos that it contained show up, but when closed again disappear.  How do I correct this annoyance?
Also:  One event that contains about 12 photos has a problem---some of the photos when clicked will enlarge and show individually on the screen and print out, while others when clicken on show a black background with an exclamation mark and will not print.  Thoughts?

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Best file formats for graphics and photos for iWeb

What is the best format to transfer files from PDF's, JPEGS, Illustrator CS3 & InDesign for best resolution display in iWeb

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. JPEGS should have the sRGB color profile. I don't know of anything special for PDFs. You might compress them to make them load quicker when viewed but those that I've added I've not done anything to them. For Illistrator and InDesign it probably would be best to take screenshots of them and use those. I don't think iWeb can import those formats but since I don't use either I could be mistaken. All graphics in web sites are displayed at 72 dpi so having large graphic files are not needed. Resize to approximately the size you want to display on the web page at 72 dpi and use that.

  • Time Capsule best to dedicate for backup and usb external for other data or partition TC for dual

I have lots of video and photo and have 2TB drive on my iMAC and want to use TC for backup.
    1) Since alot of video and photo, can plug in via ethernet or "cable/usb" vs. wireless to back up my main iMAC?  Otherwise very slow via wireless and perhaps better to get Seagate Go Flex or WD and go Firewire right?
    2) I do need and like to share other data shared vs. just TC to Time Machine Backup, reading this community input, can I confirm that best practice is to let TC have as much dedicated space as possible for Backup and mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC?
    Here's my use case:
    1) Time Machine tied to TC for the 2TB via wired to main machine iMAC - I only have this 1 iMAC.
    2) Like to share data with iPhone and iPAD some pictures, etc...  so do this with USB port and see data on the shared drive via iPhone and iPAD - no need to backup - just viewing - but need wireless - how does iPhone and iPAD detect this device - do I need app or something to view shared drive stuff?
    3) Like to share and light backup for couple PC Win7 laptops just to get files back and forth or share things between family member - nothing intense - but can PC win7 laptops see the shared drive via IP setup or something like that?
Sorry for multi questions - my first iMAC so still stumbling around to see what works best for me.
    Thanks,

If I understand your question, depending on the signal strength, backing up over Wi-Fi can be rather slow.  An Ethernet connection would be much faster, particularly for the first backup, which will the the largest.  Backing up to a locally-connected disk will be faster still.
    2) I do need and like to share other data shared vs. just TC to Time Machine Backup, reading this community input, can I confirm that best practice is to let TC have as much dedicated space as possible for Backup and mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC?
I'm not sure what you mean by "mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC".  It's not recommended to share the same volume for Time Machine output and other things.
need wireless - how does iPhone and iPAD detect this device - do I need app or something to view shared drive stuff?
If you mean that you need wireless to give an iPhone or iPad access to the Internet, a Time Capsule would do that.  If you want to give those devices access to content on a Time Capsule, that's still an immature technology, although things may improve with iOS 5 or updates beyond that.
    3) Like to share and light backup for couple PC Win7 laptops just to get files back and forth or share things between family member - nothing intense - but can PC win7 laptops see the shared drive via IP setup or something like that?
A WIn7 computer will be able to see files on the drive(s) of a Time Capsule.  I haven't tried that, but instructions are available.

  • Music and photos transferred into itunes and iphoto from external hard drive on to my new hard drive installed in my 2007 macbook

I just installed a new 250 GB SATA hard drive on to my 2007 macbook computer as the old one failed.  I had backed up my old hard drive on to a 250 GB external hard drive using time machine via a USB cord.  I am having trouble locating my music and photo files to transfer them into itunes and iphoto on my new hard drive.  I have signed in to my itunes account, where it shows my app and book purchases, but not my music purchases.  I have over 1,000 songs purchased.  Any help would be appreciated- Thanks!

    Hi aourada,
Since you have a current Time Machine backup of your computer you should be able to use the Migration Assistant to recover your music and photos.

  • Sharing Photo's between Aperture and iPhoto and syncing to iPads, etc

    Here is my problem.
I have 5 Macs (1 iMac, 4 laptops.) There are 4 people in my family and we have the family pack of iLife. The iMac is where everything sits with a time capsule and Drobo hanging off of it - about 6 TB's of data. Each Mac sync's with a variety of iPods, iTouchs and iPads. All linked to a user. So for example, all my oldest son's devices sync with only his laptop.
Well, I finally fixed my media (songs, movies, TV shows, etc) problem by leveraging home share in iTunes and authorizing all my Macs. But not so lucky yet for Photo's.
Here is the my photo dilemma.
I like Aperture for the editing and ability to handle large libraries better. So I have Aperture installed on the iMac where everything sits. iPhoto is also installed on the iMac and iPhoto is on all 4 other laptops. Prior to moving to Aperture, sharing photo's between computers was relatively easy using sharing in iPhoto - although it appears sharing in iPhoto is different than home share in iTunes. I converted my iPhoto library on the iMac to Aperture - now sharing is a pain in the neck.
Ideally, a Home Share like feature would be built into Aperture and iPhoto with another feature that would allow you to "check for new photos" on the laptops and pull them into Aperture - but wishful thinking right now.
So my while my 2 new iPads are awesome - they are basically useless for Photo's as they are synced to 2 laptops that use iPhoto, but all my Photos are in Aperture on the iMac.
    Thoughts anyone????
    Thanks

    What was the question?
