Best Place to design a slideshow to burn and view off a CD

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. In the old format there used to be a place to choose questions regarding the Creative Suite in general. Can't find it. So if this is wrong, please advise where I should be.  Thanks.
I have a client that wants me to design a slideshow for her son's wedding. She will be playing it on her MAC at the event. Having the whole suite CS5 extended) and realize that you can do almost anything in many places, where is the best place to assemble, and burn the CD.  I will be making custom slides (maybe 100). They will have photos and text on them (not just an iphoto picture slideshow...I don't think, or don't want to rely on a person's computer having iphoto). I was thinking maybe Acrobat or InDesign? Thoughts?
Thanks

Here's how to do it using Acrobat:
You will want to consider the aspect ratio of the projector or TV and make your multi page PDF match.
1. In Acrobat, go to Advanced> Document Processing> Page transitions> (Fade), auto flip, all pages.
2. File> Properties> Initial view> Open in full screen mode, save. (open the PDF once and say remember this choice, or something like that, save).
3. Acrobat> Preferences> General> Full Screen> loop after last page. You will need to explain this last part to the person who will be playing the CD.

Where is the best place to make a slideshow with pictures and music on Macbook Pro?

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

    Hi,
I would suggest that is going to be an involved and complex process.
I would personally look into some of the invoicing and time scheduling software available and see if any fit your needs.

  • Ken Burns and viewing full image

I am a very new Mac users as well as a new imovie user. I put all of my images on imovie to make a slideshow. I added music to the slideshow from itunes as well. I thought I was doing pretty good When I played the slideshow using the Ken Burns slideshow feature, the whole image was not visible. The image slowly moved on the screen but the whole image was never visible. It generally cut off the image before it was finished showing all of it. I hope this makes sense. How do I get the whole image to appear?
I did find the crop feature, and the boxes that say Start and End. When I tried this, it just made the image bigger and scanned the photo, never really showing the whole image all at once. I am quite confused.
Also, when I am finished with this slideshow, what is the easiest way to put it on a DVD as well as on Facebook.
I would appreciate any help that you can offer me! Thank you!

“...not use Ken Burns with vertically oriented photos...” -- WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! You’re kidding, right?
...I’m sorry, but personally, after Apple made the Ken Burn Effect completely USELESS for “portrait” oriented photos, I was both astonished and outraged, and have been hoping for a TRUE fix ever since. Sure, for video, later versions of iMovie do some nice things, but why on earth would Apple all of a sudden have made the Ken Burn Effect viable for only half of my photographs?!? I’ve created several DVD slideshows, most of them containing 80-90% still photos, and I am insulted by the suggestion that “padding” photographs (adding black to the sides of every “portrait” photo), via Automator or not, is the answer -- that is utter ridiculousness -- that feature should never have been removed in the first place!!! (ADD features Apple, don’t REMOVE them!!!) The only thing that would entice me to upgrade to iLife 11 would be having this simple, but to me, absolutely necessary functionality back.
...So, can you tell me if the Ken Burns Effect has been fixed in the latest iLife 11 version of iMovie to treat ALL photos equally?

  • IWeb: changing the slideshow image scale and viewing time

I moved my iWeb sites over to another server (iPage) and went through the sites to observe for inconsistencies and problems.  While doing this, I noted that my image galleries, when placed into the slides show mode, were very small on my iPad 2 and that they cycled through at a very high speed.  I thought this was odd and I wondered if anyone else has observed the same thing?  It sounds to me that an HTML under-the-hood modification may be required or a bug fix to the iWeb code is in order, to change the sideshow image scale and viewing time/slide value.  Comments?  [I suspect that Apple does not hold iWeb bug fixes at or near to the top of its software development to-does priority list.  Sounds like I need to change web authoring software.]

Why do you think it's a bug?
    Anyway :
Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?
I use my own show :

  • What is the best way to export a slideshow .I like to show my slideshows via appleTV on my TV

What is the best way to export a slideshow.I like to view  the show trough AppleTV on my television.

You don't really give us a lot of information to work with, and assume we know something about this mdeia player. The only way to get the slideshow to a media player is to export it from iPhoto. To where? Depends on the media player. Will iTunes work? Depends on the media player. Does the media player have a DVD drive? If so, then burning it to DVD with iDVD will work, but it will be standard def not HD.

  • 2 HD laptop setup - Best place to put Catalog, Cache, and Images??

If I have two 500GB 7200rpm hard drives in my MBP, what is the best place for LR3, the catalog/previews, ACRcache, and the image files themselves?
    SATA3 connection for both HDs
Should the boot drive hold the app and cache, while the second drive hold the files and catalog?
Should the catalog and cache always stay on the same drive?
Does it matter at all where the image (raw) files sit?
    Thanks!!

I'd just keep the images on a different drive with a 2 internal drive setup.

  • Where is the best place to buy iPad2 in Chicago/Illinois ?

i have been getting up early everyday and going to apple store okabrook, woodfield, and northbrook and i still cant get an iPad. If you got an iPad2 in the Chicago area can you tell me the best way to make sure I can get an iPad2?

Best place? It is purely random, timing, and luck. Any store you can find one is the best place right now unfortunately due to the high demand. Me, I'd be doing the rounds to every Apple, AT&T, Wal-Mart, Target, every day in the hopes I walked in at the right time.

  • Best place to begin design of old HTML pages with Web Dynpro

I am new to web dynpro (and the Netweaver environment).  I just took the EP150 course so I have an idea of how to create pages with both Visual Composer (although I doubt I'll use that much) and in java projects in NWDS.
My first application is to be an online purchase requisition application to replace one written in Lotus Domino (this will NOT be integrated with R/3- we will have a seperate DB for these documents outside of R/3).  I have taken the HTML main page from that application and coded it as a JSP but I am getting the impression that the overall design/coding may be simpler if I do the project as a web dynpro.  I want to find some sort of a primer that describes the various controls that go on the web dynpro view in order to figure out how I can take my HTML design and bring it into a web dynpro project.  Can anyone point me to a resource that does this?  I've checked the help and SDN and not found anything that is too helpful yet.
Can anyone tell me if it would be worthwhile for me to attend the JA310 Web Dynpro course?  I have done a couple of the tutorials posted on SDN for web dynpro but haven't done much else with it as of yet.
    Thanks.

I don't know such a migration guide, but here are some general remarks:
The Web Dynpro programming model does not use tag-libs, markup, scripting etc. as you might have used in JSP or BSP applications.
Instead, you create your view layout using the NWDS view designer (or the runtime API) and place UI elements like tables, input fields etc. inside containers.
Containers have layouts (e.g. MatrixLayout, RowLayout, FlowLayout) and UI elements placed inside a container have layout data for setting individual layout constraints. This is similar to programming in non-Web frameworks like Java Foundation Classes (Swing).
The UI elements get their data from the view controller context by data binding. There is a hierarchy of controllers (view, custom, component) and the corresponding controllers may be mapped, giving an automatic data flow through the controller hierarchy.
The complete details of markup (e.g. HTML), client-side scripting, CSS etc. is provided by the client-specific framework part and the application is completely shielded from these technical details.
This has the additional benefit that a Web Dynpro application can be run on completely different clients without change.
Example: If tomorrow it will be hip to run your business application inside some other UI technology, e.g. Adobe Flex, SAP will provide a new Web Dynpro client and all Web Dynpro applications will run without change inside this  environment. (Replace Adobe Flex by any other relevant framework).
Compare this to a programming model, that directly uses HTML, Javascript etc. Good luck rewriting several thousand user interfaces!
So in your concrete use case, look at your UIs from such a perspective and identify the Web Dynpro concepts. This should help in the migration process.

  • How can I make a slideshow with music and burn it to a disk?

I need to make a photo slideshow with music and burn it to a disk. I am able to make the slideshow but I cant figure out how to save it or burn it to a disk.

How do you want to play the slideshow?  On another computer or on a TV set?
If it's the former export the slideshow as a QT movie file to the desktop and burn that file to a disk with the Finder.
If you want to create a video DVD of the slideshow so that it can be viewed on a TV set, use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option.  That will export the slideshow into iDVD where you can complete the menu and project design.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.  To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Hi... I am looking for an inexpensive app for my macbook pro that I can put pictures and videos together into a slideshow with captions and music WITHOUT a watermark and that also will burn the slideshow to a DVD in its own app. Help?

The issue with the A1400 is that like most economy compact cameras, they will not have very fast focus times in indoor lighting situations. Many people have gone to entry level DSLR's (Canon T3i) or micro 4/3 cameras. They are fairly expensive, but a late model refurbished T3i can sometimes be found with a kit lens for about $300.00. With Auto and scene modes, as well as full manual modes, these are very versatile cameras that focus very quickly, even in lower lighting situations. Canon is not really into the micro 4/3 cameras, instead they are focusing on the new G7x and G1x cameras, which are way out of your price range. The A720 is still available used at some places such as KEH camera, but you'll need to check often as their stock changes constantly. Obviously the DSLR's don't use AA batteries, but the T3i is good for about 600 photos (or more) per charge.
My refurbished DSLR was practically brand new condition when I got it. I could not find any sign of wear at all, so I feel they are a real bargain. These are rugged cameras that are made to last. The A1400 is a $99.00 camera, so it's not intended for heavy usage, plus the image quality of a DSLR (even entry level) is far better than the A1400. That would be my recommendation.

  • Not happy with slideshows / Ken Burns effects / lesser quality in iDVD

I am a new iPhoto user, having created my first slideshow of old photos to play at my mother's 80th birthday party this week. The whole process of arranging photos, testing visual effects and adding music went swimmingly! BUT (!!!!) I am hugely disappointed now that I've rendered the show through iDVD.
-- The Ken Burns effects keep changing! Once a slideshow was created and the Burns effects seemed perfect, I sent that show to iDVD. But viewing the project once burned to DVD, I see that the cropping, zooming, etc. are all different. Is there a way to "save" a show and maintain the effects?
-- Moreover, the crystal clear image sharpness and clean edges seen when viewing a slideshow in iPhoto are "dumbed down" once the show is sent to and rendered in iDVD. Even at the "quality" setting, moving effects look raggedy-edged. This really makes me unhappy.
Any thoughts or ideas to share on this? Thanks.....

    SixPack:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As TD pointed out, making a QT movie file of a slideshow involves rendering which is then encoded once again in iDVD. IMO, the best image quality for a slideshow is obtained when you create the slideshow entirely within iDVD. Of course there's no KB effect.
If you create the show in iMovie you can get around the double encoding by closing iMovie once the slideshow is finished. Then open the iMovie project file/package (Option-click on the project file and select Show Package Contents option), find the iDVD folder and drag the .mov file in it into the open iDVD window. This will let iDVD do the rendering of the various transitions and special effects and provide a better final product.
You must remember that iDVD's final resolution is only 640 x 480.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I have created a 12 minutes slideshow on imovies and on idvd.  I want to show it to my relatives in Europe.  What is the best way for me to do this? utube?

I have created a 12 minute slideshow on imovies and burned it through idvd.  I would like to share it with my relatives in Europe. what would be the best means of doing this? uTube? any other ideas?

You could put it on Youtube, but then they don't have a cop saved to their drive. You could also upload it to your Dropbox and make it public. Note the size of the file, Dropbox and Youtube can only handle such big files, and if your family has a good internet connection (download/playback speeed over bandwith).

  • Best Process for making DVD slideshows w/iDVD

Hasn't someone made a Sticky about this yet??
I just perused the forum for this answer and it seems the user "Shippley" has provided the most help in this area. I'm hoping they can help in this case. For making a dvd slideshow using ONLY iMovie, iPhoto and or iDVD what process has been determined to provide the best visual quality on playback in a DVD player?
I've read that for best results in putting a slideshow onto a DVD is to make the slideshow in iPhoto or iMovie first, and then send it on to iDVD.
But I need more information, and in one location-
Should the iPhoto/iMovie slideshow be WITHOUT any transitions for best quality?
In iPhoto, should we organize our slideshow in an Event then Share > Send to iDVD for best results, or is there a better way?
Does iMovie HD (6.0.4) or iMovie '08 (7.1.4) make a difference in quality? Otherwise I want the easiest.
When the iMovie slideshow is being sent to iDVD, should we use Share>Export Movie for the best quality when sending to iDVD? Or is there another/better way?
My photo's are scanned from slides and are small file sizes, if they were large (like from a digital camera) do I have to resize them for optimum DVD viewing?
What about the settings for widescreen or standard, either one better?
iDVD encoding, Best/High/Professional, which one for best clarity?
Like most other infrequent DVD makers, I do not want a fancy slideshow, I don't care if it has transitions if it means I can have better clarity in the DVD player. I have old slides that I simply want to burn to a DVD.
    Thanks for your help!

Here is a quote from a post of F Shippley on March 8, 2010 that I am referring to. Bengt, you also responded to this post. The post is titled "poor picture quality with DVD slideshow".
Thus my confusion as to the best practice. I may look into Fotomagico, but like others, I don't want to have to pay for another application that may only be used once or twice a year! Thank you for your responses.
F Shippley writes, "As I told you in your other message yhread:
The easiest way to improve the quality of slideshows for use with iDVD is to create them as movies in iPhoto or iMovie! Creating slideshows in iDVD has MANY drawbacks (as you have probably found). It's 'quick and dirty' easy for a few slides, but that's about all I use it for.
BTW, for PAL DVDs use 768x576 pixel images for standard video and use 1024x576 pixel images for widescreen video. That's all the resolution a DVD supports. "
