Best place to get replacement hard drive?

Looking to replace the dead hard drive in my ipod.
Looking for NEW 20 gig or up drive.
I am in Canada and would like to buy local if possible.
Where is a good place to buy new drives for these units?

  • Cheapest place to get new hard drive

When buying a new hard drive for my power book G4, where is the cheapest place to do it?
Also the cheapest way to have it installed?
The apple store would cost $500 to $600 they said.
I do NOT want to pay that.

I installed a new HD on an iBook once and it wasn't that bad. Lots of screws to keep track off, I recomend drawing a diagram on a large piece of paper and placing the screws on it so you remember, and also make sure you have ample time.

tons of info here, if you want to tackle it yourself. Othwise, get one of those really tiny external drives

  • Best Place For Sata UK Hard Drive

I've been looking around the Internet for a new hard drive.
    Basically either:
    100GB 7200RPM
    or
    120GB 5400RPM
I don't care about the brand, just the cheapest price. Remember UK only.
    THANKS

Any experience on comparing 5400 Seagate 120GB to the HItachi 7K100 at 100GB but 7200? I guess question is whether the speed makes much real difference and thus the extra 20Gb is the better option for general use (as both are more or less the same price).
My HD has the problem where when hot it starts behaving "sticky" and every 2-3 minutes processes start to hang as does disc access for about 30secs-1minute (as this happens EVERY 2-3 minutes i becomes unusable...) - there are some threads showing this is typified by some earlier Macbooks (like mine) and a few people have found changing HD solves it.....so have a 100GB in already from Apple but may have to dump it - key thing is the drive is reliable and will work on hot days and nights, unlike the current one!

You will need to use third-party software to transfer music from your phone to the iTunes Library. I recommend Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac | Macroplant.com.

  • I have an iMac 21.5 inch purchased in 2011 with a failing 1TB Seagate hard drive. Can I get a replacement hard drive?

I have an iMac 21.5 inch purchased in 2011 with a failing 1TB Seagate hard drive. Can I get a replacement hard drive thru the Apple Replacement Program? I did purchase the Applecare Plan but it expired in Dec. 2013.

FWIW, if you purchased the iMac in 2011 and purchased Applecare, you are covered for a total of 3 years. You mentioned yours expired in December 2013 - that cannot be unless you bought yours in 2010. If you bought it in December 2011, you should still be covered until December 2014 - if so, contact Apple/make a Genius Bar appointment quickly so the replacement is covered by the warranty. The hard drive replacement program might have expired, but as long as you're covered by Applecare, a drive replacement is covered.

If you registered your product, you should be able to find the download and serial number from your Adobe account.
    https://www.adobe.com/account.html
    Otherwise:
Download Adobe CS5.5 Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant or Manager) | ProDesignTools
You might still have to contact Customer Support to reset your Activations, unless you managed to deactivate the original installation.

  • What is the easiest way to tell if your time capsule has backed up your hard drive, as my mac has been recalled for a replacement hard drive

Your views would be appreciatted, my imac has recently been recalled for a replacement hard drive, would it be easier just to purchase a external hard drive to be on the safe side for backing up my photos etc?
I have a 1GB time capsule but to be honest not sure how it operates it states it oldest back up is the 11th October
201GB of 998 available or would it best to buy a external hard drive and back up using this.
    thanks
    Benjoe08

    You are very wise.. !!
It can be awfully hard restoring the Mac from TM.. as many posters here have discovered.
IMHO.. for certainty.. get an external drive.. they are not expensive.. do a full backup to it.
I would even download superduper and make a clone of the existing drive and boot from it.. this means when the Mac is returned if all else fails.. you can use the external clone as a boot and have exact OS as you have right now.

  • I have a 4th gen 20G ipod whose hard drive has died.  Are replacement hard drives available through the apple store?

I have a 4th gen 20G ipod whose hard drive has died.  Are replacement hard drives available through the apple store?

I don't think Apple will do that repair for you, because the iPod is too old.  I believe the hard drive type used in 4th gen and older iPods is no longer produced.  There may be non-Apple shops who can do the repair, but they may be using a working part salvaged from a used iPod.
If you want to do the repair work yourself, and you are good at such things, this web site has repair guides
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
(There are probably also YouTube videos on the topic.)
NOTE:  There are two hard drive physical sizes.  The thick version has two platters, and corresponds to the "thick" iPods (with double storage capacity).  A 4th gen 20GB model should be the thin version.  The hard drive used in iPods up to 4th gen should work interchangeably, but 5th gen and later iPods use a different type.
I have a 4th gen iPod that started out as a 20GB.  The hard drive failed, so I put a compact flash card on an adapter in there.  The adapter is like this one (I bought it a few years ago so it's probably not the same seller)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Compact-Flash-CF-SSD-To-Toshiba-IPod-1-8-inch-Adapte r-Black-/121174875639
The compact flash card is standard; I bought the cheapest one.  I currently have an 8GB card in there, but prices have come down, so I may get a 64GB card soon.  It works great with the 8GB card.  No more hard drive spin-up delay.  Battery lasts longer.  It's lighter.  And it should be more shock resistant.
The only mod I needed to make on the adapter was to bend over two pins 90º, where you place a jumper to set the drive to "master."  The adapter plus CF card is actually smaller and thinner than just original 1.8-inch Toshiba hard drive; I used some thin foam packing material (cut to the right shape) to take up the excess space and ensure the adapter and card did not become disconnected.
The 4th gen iPod has excellent sound, compared to some later iPods.

  • Replaced hard drive- will not reboot

Replaced hard drive on hp compaq mini cq10- 120ca because it quit working and the diagnostics said the hard drive was no good. Had a back up flash drive, but when I tried to reboot it says the bootmgr is missing. The mini did not come with any back up cd. What can I do to remedy this, and how can I verify the flash drive  is bootable. When I connect the flash drive to another computer it looks like all of the backup files are there. It had windows xp home on it.  Thank you.

    Hi Tomilly,
The easiest way is to get a recovery image from HP, please call HP call center and request a recovery image either via USB drive or CD type depends on your configuration.
If your original HDD is still workable, please re-install this HDD back.  Boot up the system and locate the HP recovery manager, there shall be an option to create recovery media which can store all your image including the OS to the media.
    Best rgds,

  • IPod 4th Gen Click Wheel replaced hard drive; problems

Ok, So I replaced the 20gb hard drive with a new EXACT replacement hard drive, no other problems with iPod. But iTunes will not recognize it because the hard drive is not formatted. I tried formating it with Disk Utility but keep getting error messages. Im not sure what format to use. When the 4th gen came out Intel processors werent here so Im sure I need to simply format as Mac OS Extended. There is no HFS= format in Disk Utility. Im lost as to what to do. Please help??!

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • What is the best USB powered portable 1TB hard drive for a macbook pro that allows Time machine to work, windows (thru Parallels software) and mac storage and is available in Australia?

What is the best USB powered portable 1TB hard drive for a macbook pro that allows Time machine to work, windows (thru Parallels software) and mac storage and is available in Australia?

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive.  But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

Looks like it's either the mid 2007 or late 2007 model. Apple's site can't tell from the serial. Either way, it comes on, I can hear the hard drive spinning, and it'll even get quite warm. But the only thing that appears to come on is the power light
