Best Place to Sell PowerBook G4 12-inch

We have a PowerBook G4 12-inch that we're ready to sell. Besides the obvious Craigs List and eBay, is there a good place to list it?
Thanks,
Deborah

Wherever you sell it, be sure to follow the tips on my FAQ*:

  • Where is the best place to sell my old MacBook Pro?

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz which is in need of a new logic board due to a faulty graphics card. Also in need of a new battery. Everything else is in perfect working order.
Is there a market for spare parts for this model?
Where is the best place to list/sell?
What price should I be happy with?
    Cheers.

Unfortunatly with that machine, logicboard/graphics problems are pretty common. Because of that, the only parts that are really in demand are working logicboards. The rest of it isn't in very high demand at all.

  • Where is the best place to sell your macbook pro?

Other places besides ebay and craigslist please

This means there are no good places for selling your Mac (unless you're prepared to lose more than you would like to, that is).
It is not unusual for the seller to overvalue their item and the buyer to undervalue it.  Then they have to come to a compromise in order to consummate a sale.  This has been the case for eons.
    Ciao.

  • Im selling an Ipod dock connector (2003). How much sould I ask for it? Where is the best place to sell it?

It works perfectly all its functions

Best place is eBay.  Do you happen to have any other part/accessories for that era iPod.
I am looking for the original soft pouch that came with the iPod 3rd gen packaging.

  • Thoughts please on using Powerbook for graphics/best place to find 2nd hand

not sure where the best place for this post was so apologies if it's in the wrong spot - I'm thinking of getting a laptop as a 2nd Mac, mainly for graphics work e.g. InDesign, Photoshop etc what are users thoughts on the Powerbook for this kind of usage and/or where is the best place to look in the UK for 2nd hand/refurbished Mac laptops?
    Thanks!

The Aluminum line topped out at 1.67GHz in the 15" model. Combined with newer features, more RAM capacity, faster buses, brighter displays, these are a big step over the Titaniums.
Although the MB and MBP start at 1.83GHz, which doesn't sound much faster, they have dual cores (basically two processors) and are considerably faster, depending on the apps ability to utilize those cores. Of course, you pay for that speed. If I were going to buy a Ti for anywhere near the price of an Al, I'd certainly get the Al. And if I were going to buy an Al for anywhere near the price of a MBP, no doubt I'd get the MBP.
I think it's going to boil down to what you want to spend, with the ranges being low, medium, and high, as described above. I know that unless I was getting a terrific deal on an Al, I wouldn't even be thinking about it, I'd go MBP all the way.

  • Where is best place to get cheap but good condition Powerbook G4 Alum?

I like these and wondered if eBay is the best place, where you just take your chances as to what you're going to get, or if there is a secret Mac supplier for excellent condition Alum P12" powerbooks?
    Oh yeah, cheap, too.

Where are based? I'm selling one.

  • What is the best external hard drive for backup on powerbook g4 17-inch?

i need to get a good external hard drive for backing up my files on my 2004 powerbook g4 17-inch. up till now ive been using thumbdrives, but i have way too much to backup now. i was thinking of getting the time capsule, but i don't have leopard version with time machine.
what would be an advisable backup to get without buying a new mactop yet?
please include model # if possible.
thanks in advance for anyone's input!

What I've done is buy the case and drive separately. The case I use is similar to this one: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEFW91UAL1K/ (looks like they don't offer this case with Firewire 800 anymore), and the hard drive is a Western Digital 3.5" Parallel ATA 320GB which Newegg carries at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136109. The reason I like a combination like this is that the enclosure uses the Oxford 911 chipset, and Oxford chipsets have a good track record working with our macs. The Western Digital drive comes with a 3 year warranty (many pre-packaged hard drives only have a one year warranty). It is very easy to install the drive ... you plug in the power and data connectors to the hard drive, and screw the hard drive to the case.
Whatever external hard drive you get, recommend one with a Firewire connection. Our Powerbooks can boot from a Firewire connection, however, cannot boot from a USB-only connection. Also, be aware that for a USB-only connection, if the external hard drive relies on power from it there may be a problem. This is due to the Powerbook putting minimal power out on USB. There are many people who have found that they've had to either get a dual USB cable, a USB powered hub, or an external power supply for their USB-powered external hard drive. The case I mentioned above has it's own external power supply. Firewire-powered drives don't have this problem.

  • DC-in /Best place to buy replacement parts?

I am still using my powerbook G4, the male part of the plug got stuck in the input , it will cost too much to have apple fix it, so my brother (who is a computer science grad) is going to fix it for me, where is the best place to buy the dc-in part? or any parts? Also I figure now is a good time to replace the battery which has not been working for a year or so, any suggestions??
    Thanks in advance!

    ~carly~
Try OWC ... they are a very reliable Mac supplier. I have purchased batteries, memory, etc. without any problems

another source for parts is iFixit ..... good rep, but no personal experience.

Wow, that's amazing. Sometimes I wonder... (but I won't say anything per TOS).
YES, our 12-inch PowerBooks, the little mighty ultra-portable that could, can be used with 23-inch displays, if you are referring to Part No. M9178LL/A.
    http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
As you said, you just need the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, which should have come in the box with your PowerBook. (I'm sure you know that the other adapter is Mini-DVI to VGA, and will not fit if you tried). If you don't have one, you can get them at Apple (retail and online) for $19.95, or even at Best Buy.
Note that Best Buy sells Apple's adapter, and their own "Dynex" brand which is a bit cheaper. (That is, if your Best Buy has the Apple Shop inside). Or, if you have a CompUSA near you--yes, I know people, they are closing down--you might be able to get one at a discount.

  • Where's the Best Place....

    Hello once again,
I have yet to purchase my MBP, and I am wondering from all of your experiences, where is the best place to buy a 1gig 3rd party RAM. Paying all that money for Apple's RAM isn't that way I want to go, but if there's no recommended 3rd party companies, I may need to cough over the bucks...
    thanks,

Fair enough. I wasn't actually suggesting buying from Crucial. The best source for the 1gb Crucial was Newegg.com at $150 - but this is also for a chip that Apple are supplying as original ram so it's not a bad price. I didn't know Crucial sold Samsung - seems a bit odd as they are owned by Micron who also supply Apple as OEM. Business makes for strange bedfellows:)
OWC sell their own branded ram for $112 or so and Samsung M470T295CZ3-CE6 (as also supplied by Apple) for $170. What I was saying was that this Samsung chip,
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Samsung/53SDR2SAM1GB/
can be found for as little as $120 - so OWC are a tad expensive for this particular chip if that is the one you were thinking of buying.
It sounds like you're going for the OWC own brand, so I can't recommend a cheaper source for that and they know a thing or two about ,macs so there's no reason to not trust their judgement.
    Best of luck
    Cheers.

  • Problem with Powerbook G4 - 15 inch, machine ins currently connected to the

Problem with Powerbook G4 - 15 inch, machine ins currently connected to the DVI/AVI adapter so I can use the powerbook with a monitor attached, and have been doing so for about 3 months so far, with no problems, now, it wont boot up without giving me the grey screen with the "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc". I did the power management reset, take out battery - even though battery dead, and remove adapter, hold down button for 5 seconds etc... it worked, finally booted up, but the DVI/AVI monitor adapter stuff was not connected when it booted up. When i put them back on, and tried to restart, i get the same "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc" what do you think could be happening, could it be the DVI/AVI adapter or something a lot more serious

    Thanks and noted.
I'd suggest you post in the PowerBook G4 area. This forum is for
older, pre-G3 PowerBooks and so is probably not the
most likely place for you to get help with your G4.
    Good luck.

I been waiting to buy an ipod nano for a long time but I cant figure out where I want to buy it. I dont know where there is a place that sells it in stock. So if you have any suggestions post them please.

  • Where is the Best Place to Buy Ram???????

I'm looking to expand my ram from 2 gig to 4 gig and would like to get some recomendation about where or where not to go. I searched this Discussion and didn't find anything on this subject. Anyone have any good suggestions as far as price and reliability? Is there one place that is hands down the best?
    Thanks

Apple uses 1.8v memory, that's what I'd get. There are tons of places that sell it cheaply online, and you can even get the exact Samsung that Apple uses for a reasonable price.
I'll be trying a pair of Corsair Value Select 1G modules when my Quad arrives. I got them from Newegg, and they're going back if they're not 100% stable. That pair cost me about $140. Newegg has always been great for me.
A simple place to get Mac RAM is OWC. Their OWC branded RAM is inexpensive, and guaranteed to work. They also sell the exact Samsung part that Apple uses, but it's about 50% more money.
