Best Portable Computer for me?

Hi all.
Just wondering what is the best apple portable computor for me?
I'll be using it for college work, downloading/watching videos & music & making videos.
I have the Iphone 4 & i love it!
Thanks,
Rob.

First of all if you. Are really gonna follow my advise then I must tell you that there is no cd drive in any of the MacBook air though in this times we use less CD but we still stumble across them also the graphic card is no good for games and the camera is not HD  but if you are not harmed by this disadvantages you can take a 13 inch model because if has a big screen with 720 resolution and it also has more memory It also has an sd card slot so this MacBook is perfect for you
If you feel I gave less info you can always go to http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_air/select
And by the way you can take a portable cd drive for the MacBook but then you will end up haveing many stuff

  • Best Apple Computer for Video Editing (when you're on a budget)?

I shoot video on a Canon XL2 and edit with Final Cut Express. I am looking to get a more powerful computer to edit as I currently edit on a 2007/8 MacBook with 120GB hard drive. It gets the job done but rendering takes forever and I can tell my MacBook is slowing down. What is the best apple computer for video editing? And, what would you recommend if you're on a budget? iMac? MacBook Pro? Thanks for any and all help.

    Well, depending on budget...
Today, this would be my personal choice...

  • Best Mac Computer for Movies and Music

Hi, I am about to go into college as a music major and I am interested in buying a mac! I was wondering what would be the best Mac computer to buy to have the best music listening, creating, and mixing experience I could have. I am also interested in film. Is there a Mac that focuses just on certain creating aspects?

    Hi Superman,
If you are going to college, you should check to see if your school has a computer deal with Apple. Some times you can get a pretty decent discount. If I were you, I'd lean towards the new MacBook Pro. Most up to date computer in the Apple laptop line, and as powerful as the G5 towers, just not as "upgradeable" (memory maxs out at 2 gigs I think). Garageband is a great program, but Logic Pro is 1000 times better (and has the learning curve to prove it). iMovie is a great video editing app for trters, but Final Cut Pro is the way to go on that end. External hard drives (at least 72900rpms) can improve your performance using any of these apps. In short, newest computer, maxed out RAM, external FW drive, and the best apps you can afford.
    Have fun Superman!

  • Best portable speakers for macbook?

Any sugguestions for portable speaker for my new MacBook?  I just got a BIGJambox but I'm very disappointed.  It sounds tinny and won't stay connected via bluetooth.  Don't necessarily need bluetooth but quality sound would be nice.

As sound is a very subjective thing, it's hard to say which sound best but if you're looking for portable speakers, I would say either TravelSound 400 or TravelSound 250. I prefer the TravelSound 400 over the 250 model.

  • Best portable charger for phone and tablet

What is the best portable charger

Agreed - the best depends on what you want, like and need to charge.
I got one from Huuman (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJY11RK)
And I love it. I like that it's slim so I can put it in my pocket. I found most high capacity chargers are chunky and for me, that's not the best. Plus the color is gorgous gotta look good right? lol - it charges my ipod6 and my ipad mini super fast.
I found out there's a deal if you buy it from their website:  http://store.imhuuman.com/collections/frontpage/products/maxx-portable-external- battery-charger
the promo is for 10% off till end of Dec. Try this code: HIHUMN10

    15" or 17" MacBook Pro with anti-glare screen/high-res option.
1: Performance for video, playback and generation.
2: Anti-glare option as you can see the whole screen outside, inside, in classes, in the car, on the plane, bus etc nearly all of the time.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X0wo6dIsMU
    (warning: sound spike!)
    3: The high res option on the 17" only, offers a true 1920 x 1080 (1080i) viewing on it's 1920 x 1200 pixel screen.

  • Whats the best portable drive for use with iMovie?

I use iMovie on my macbook on my long commute to and from work. I have read that the best solution is to edit movies on an external drive and not the one on the mac.
What is the minimum drive speed (rpm) and minimum transfer (firewire 400 ? usb 2?) for this to work.
All the drives on the online apple store talk about transfering documents, photos and using them as backup devices and I am trying to be cautious about what I buy given a limited budget.
For example is the "Iomega 160GB Portable Hard Drive with Dual Interface" suitable ?
    All advice gratefully received, thanks

    I haven't seen that point.
I worked on my old iMac using just the hard drive for a while. Performance is not the issue, but space can be, which is why I moved to an external drive.
Drive performance is complicated. If you have enough memory, your internal drive will probably have better performance than an external drive. The SATA bus is a lot faster than the FireWire or USB buses.
On the other hand, if you are memory constrained and are using other i/o intensive applications at the same time, the external may perform better. You definitely want to avoid excessive swapping of your virtual memory while using iMovie or anything else. (and this is best handled by having sufficient RAM. I have 2GB.
In iMovie 08, once you have your video imported into an event, you can edit away, because iMovie is just writing pointers in the project file to the source files in the EVENT. Disk performance is more critical on import (front end) and sharing or rendering (back-end), but internal drives are more than up to this task.
Space is the issue. If you are shooting high definition footage, you can get event files of 20GB to 40GB+. That can eat up a laptop real quick.

  • Best portable mic for podcasting outside

    Hey everyone
I do a couple podcasts. One is a triathlon one and I'm going to Hawaii to cover the Ironman world champs next month. I want to get a portable mic that will record into MP3s. This way I'll be able to interview athletes outside.
Let me know if you have any recommendations.
    Thanks for your time.

I agree with the suggestion that's it's better, easier, and more reliable to use a portable flash recorder and then transfer files to your computer, rather than lugging around your computer with you.
Don't know what your budget is, but if you can afford it, HHB makes a flash recorder stuffed into a microphone that is excellent for field interviews:
    http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FlashMic/
One (superficial, but real) benefit to using it is that if you're doing interviews, it looks like a microphone, so people immediately get what you're doing and respond.
If something like that is out of your budget, I'd try and get a portable flash recorder designed for music rather than voice recording. While the Olympus could work great, it's designed for voice recording (and may be more than sufficient for your needs). However, portable recorders designed for music rather than voice tend to work better for both. Here's a Sweetwater page on popular models. (I like the Sony's, but there are cheaper models that are used and praised all the time for what you are describing):

  • Best Portable HD for MBP?

Appreciate recommendations for a reliable portable HD [ 500G ].
    Thx,
    Steve

If it works its good, if it doesn't its bad.  They all are good and if they come in an enclosure they will have their own sudden motion sensor which is also good, BUT avoid using it as an internal drive drive for your MBP.  There often is a compatibility issue with the MBP SMS.
As an aside, upgrade to Snow Leopard.  It is more efficient than Leopard and is only $29.
    Ciao.

  • Which Portable Computer for Photography?

I couldn't find a "General" or "Watercooler" type forum so I guess this will have to do. If someone has a better idea of where to post this please let me know.
So what one Apple notebook/laptop would a photographer benifit from the most? I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5.
I've been thinking about a MacBook Air, but not sure if they're fast enoough for the software.
I love my MacBook Pro 15" but it's heavy to carry with my gear. I also use a 27" iMac.
I may be on the road a lot in the near future and I'm thinking I really need to get down to one or two devices. Maybe an iPad + MacBook Pro or MacBook AIr combo or something.
Anyone have any experience using a MacBook Air with an Apple Cinema Display?
Retna is not a big deal to me, should it be?
So what are you other photographers doing?
    Thanks for any feedback.

why don't you trust bus-powered models?
    Not always reliable.
    or 2.5" drives?
    Short lives in my experiences.
Which do you prefer? ..... Backup SW or Carbon Copy Cloner? How about their user-friendliness for a neophyte like me when it comes to all of the backup & restore procedures?
Why not download the 30 day free trial of my favorite, Tri-Backup...
    http://www.tri-edre.com/english/tribackup.html
It does so much it's hard to tell if you'd find it complicated, I think it can be easy though.
It can besides every possible means of Backup known practically, be setup to notice you plugged in the Backupo Disk & automatically add new files or whatever you wish!

  • Best Portable USM HDD for K450 hot-swap bay

I have read suggestions for the best portable USM HDD for K430 hot-swap bay, but I'm not sure if the K450 has the exact same hot-swap bay as the K430.  Are the drives suggested for the K430 the same ones that would be best for the K450?  I haven't even received my Lenovo K450 yet. I ordered it on Thursday and it will arrive on Monday Oct. 14, 2013. I just want to understand the hot-swap bay because I thought there was a way I could use a hard drive out of my old computer and put it in an external drive case and plug it right in.  After reading the literature here in the community posts, that doesn't appear to be the purpose of the bay.  I wish it would work that way because I wanted to easily offload some documents that are saved on my 500 GB Western Digital 3.5" hard drive that I would have liked to move to my new computer easily.  My old computer is not working at all anymore, so I can't just drag and drop them from my extra 500 GB drive from that computer onto the new one.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I purchased this same drive and it works great!!  It is too bad that Lenovo didn't tell me this when I contacted their support team.  It would have saved me a lot of time!!

To learn how to defend yourself from the threat of adware read How to install adware.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver movies or other copyrighted content "for free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.
