Best Portable USM HDD for K450 hot-swap bay

I have read suggestions for the best portable USM HDD for K430 hot-swap bay, but I'm not sure if the K450 has the exact same hot-swap bay as the K430.  Are the drives suggested for the K430 the same ones that would be best for the K450?  I haven't even received my Lenovo K450 yet. I ordered it on Thursday and it will arrive on Monday Oct. 14, 2013. I just want to understand the hot-swap bay because I thought there was a way I could use a hard drive out of my old computer and put it in an external drive case and plug it right in.  After reading the literature here in the community posts, that doesn't appear to be the purpose of the bay.  I wish it would work that way because I wanted to easily offload some documents that are saved on my 500 GB Western Digital 3.5" hard drive that I would have liked to move to my new computer easily.  My old computer is not working at all anymore, so I can't just drag and drop them from my extra 500 GB drive from that computer onto the new one.
Solved!

I purchased this same drive and it works great!!  It is too bad that Lenovo didn't tell me this when I contacted their support team.  It would have saved me a lot of time!!

  • Best Portable USM HDD for K430 hot swap bay?

Browsed around for awhile and haven't found any products for the bay on front of the K430s we purchased?
    any suggetions? tnxs.

The Seagate Backup Plus, which comes with a USB 3.0 connector, works fine in the Lenovo front mounted USM bay.  Just remove the USB 3.0 connector and slide it in.  It does not take excessive force, but it is somewhat firm.
I bought a 1 TB model at Best Buy and it worked fine when using the USB connector but did not work when inserted in the USM bay.  I took it back to the store and tried it in a Lenovo on the floor and it did not work there either.  Best Buy replaced it with another unit which works perfectly.  I keep mine permanently in the USM bay and use it to back up files (using the Win 8 File History feature).  I also keep about 400 GB of video files on the USM drive so that they do take up space on the C: drive.
I have been very satisfied with mine -- use it in a Lenovo K430.  The Seagate Backup Plus can be found in most online stores which carry external hard drives.  Price is reasonable.

Any suggestions about the best portable hard drive for my mac lap;top.

There is no "best."  Everyone has their favorite manufacturer.
My suggestion to you is to do research for the HD that you are interested in.  Read its reviews.

What is the best portable hard drive for my mac?

A lot depends on the size you want...physical size, I mean...see what they have at OWC, http://www.macsales.com I have thee of there drives and they are great...compatible and already formatted out-of-the-box.  But it is still better to format and partition yourself to set them up your way.

    There is no best.
Look at OWC for some options.  http://www.macsales.com/

I had good luck with DiskGo Edge in the past.

  • Which TS430 models come with SATA hot swap bays?

I'm trying to figure out which TS430 models come with what bays installed.
I can't find any specs on the Lenovo websites that tell me what the difference is between the different units.
Some specs I've found on the web say that the TS430 0393 comes with 8 - 3.5"  hot swap bays.  Others say 4.
Is there a table that shows which hot-swap options come with what models?
Ideally I am looking for a server with 8 3.5" SATA hot-swap trays installed.

  • What are the best portable Bluetooth keyboards for 3rd G and 4G iPod Touch?

I have both a 32 Gb 3G iPod Touch and a new 8 Gb 4G iPod Touch which I am trying to determine the best choices of a portable (folding or otherwise) Bluetooth keyboard to facilitate faster typing than using that on the iPod.  I have reviewed similar excellent threads for recommendations for folding boards for the iPad, but these threads are two years old with last entries in 2010, so I am opening this thread in hopes that additonal product recommendations might be available.
My purpose is to select a good quality one that functions well for a touch typist (moderately skilled).  I am thinking that the Apple one is a bit bulky to carry around, but also I realize the folding models also have limitations for touch typists.  One I have been considering recently is the Verbatum  Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Folding Keyboard for various later model Apple products for iPhone, IPod, and IPad that is currently selling around $50.
I would appreciate any experience and recommendations that people that have use this product or others that they would reccomend.

  • Best portable hard drive for MacBook Pro late 2011

Looking for a portable hard drive, 1TB USB 2.0 I think.  I googled the model details below and it said it had USB 2.0
    EtreCheck version: 1.9.12 (48)

    Hardware Information:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (Verified)
      MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro8,1
      1 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU: 2 cores
      4 GB RAM
Have never backed up before and not too bothered about it being super fast.  Would like to get one for under £50.  Tried looking myself but getting very confused, USB, FireWire ????
    Can anyone help?

USB 3 hard drives will work with your MacBook but only at USB 2 speeds. FireWire 800 is your best option for fast data transfers at this point, unless you want to get a new computer.
    Best of luck.

    Hi,
    Thank you all,
Isn't it too much 200G for Windows as i will on ly install VMWARE Workstation 9 for lab purposes and possibly a few softwares.
VMWARE installed on Windows will require 2 GB + 1 GB per host (i will use approximatively 15 hosts).
Checkpoint products will be installed on VMWARE that is installed in Windows :
    - disk space needed for 3 Checkpoint gateways: 3*37 GB
    - disk space needed for 2 Checkpoint gateways management servers: 2*10 GB
On Linux I'll install GNS3 with 10 GB disk space required and a few softwares.
I've got a Toshiba stellite computer with Windows 8 pre-installed.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @2.5 Ghz
    RAM: 8 Go
    64 bits OS, processor x64
    See below the screenshot
I've taken screenshot of my partition (below).
    * Don't take into account the disk 1 (E) partition
Can u confirm that in Disk o, partitions with 450 Mo, 260 Mo and 9.48 Go are for recovery system?
I am planning to let the recovery partition as it is and divide the TI30985500A (C) partition (688 Gb) into:
    - 200 Gb windows partition
    -100 Gb Linux partition
    -388 Gb data partition
What do you think about this partionning regarding the informations i've provided above?

  • Possible for Esata hot swap on MSI P55?

I'm using an esata bracket which connects 2 sata ports from my P55m-GD41 to 2 esata ports since this motherboard doesn't have esata.
Is there any way to do an "eject disk" when an external esata drive is connected?
The method I'm doing right now is to uninstall the drive from device manager.

    Hello,

I found information for the P55-GD80 that says two ports support port multiplier
Where did you find that information?  By whom was it given?  Can you provide a link?
The thing is, that this is not really a question that should be asked about the board as such but rather about its particular SATA Controller/Controllers.
The eSATA-Port of both the P55-GD65 and the P55-GD80 are controlled by the same type of chipset:  JMicron 363.  The specs for the JMicron 363 are summarized here:

    • Supports 2-port 3.0Gbps SATA II interface
    • Supports two independent SATA II channels (separate logic and FIFO)
    • Supports Native Command Queue (NCQ) on SATA II port
    • Supports Hot Plugging like USB on SATA II port
    • Supports SATA II Gen1m and Gen2m (External SATA Connection, eSATA)
    • Supports Port Multiplier with Command-based Switching on SATA II port
    • Supports up to UDMA6 transfer mode of PATA
    • Supports up to 4 storage device connection
    • Supports up to 0,1,0+1,JBOD RAID function

  • What is the best USB 3.0 (small) ext HDD for recording my music on

    Hello everybody!
    i start with saying...........
    A Happy Newyear!!!!!
I wish you all the very best and love.
    Now for my question.
I would like to know what is the best portable usb 3.0 external HDD for recording my music on.
Because since today i am a very happy new owner of the new Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz, with 8 GB of Ram and 256 GB of Flash.
.... and yes it has the Samsung Retina Display
Since 8 years i use Logic Pro and because the flash is only 256 Gb i want to record on a external drive
and not on the internal storage (and especially now with usb 3.0).
But i would like to know what is the best portible external HDD for this function.
500 GB is enough for me because i have 2x a 2 TB for my Mac Pro and Macbook pro where i make back ups from all my music (2 back ups just to be safe).
    Some Examples i saw:
    - WD My passport USB 3.0 - 500 GB harde schijf
    - G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE Slim USB 3.0-harde schijf
    - LaCie 500GB Rugged Triple USB 3.0 externe harde schijf
    - Freecom Mobile drive mg 500 GB harde schijf
    - Western Digital My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 500 GB harde schijf
I would really like some good advise in this.
Hope you guys can help me out with this.

I cannot speak specifically about any of those Ext HDs because i don't own any of them..
    But...
Make sure the external drive is 7200rpm.... and not 5400rpm or a 'green' drive with something called "varipower' or a similar name...

  • Definition of "hot swap"

I am looking at a SATA enclosure with Hot Swap bays. I believe that means I can pull out a drive without powering down the whole enclosure, but do I still have to unmount the drive from my desktop?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, John & Dave!
I read (at the Wiebetech site) that it still may be good practice to power off a hot-swap device beforehand when it's practicable to do so, to preclude the possiblility of arcing across the wrong pins at the connection point, which is suspected to be one of the many causes of FireWire port failure, for example, even though FireWire devices are indeed hot-swapable. It might not be essential, but instead, perhaps, it's just prudent.

    Gary

  • TS430 hot swap drive tray options

I purchased a TS430 without any hard drives and need the drive trays to get it operational. IBM/Lenovo is out of the trays for the hot swap drive bay. There's a long wait 2-3 months to get these parts, either 03X3835 or 03X3696. Found a third party selling these pieces but he's asking $80-85 for each, way too expensive.
Is there a third party product that'll be compatible instead? Anyone using a tray for another IBM/Lenovo model or just a generic tray that works on TS430? Please let me know. Thanks!

No 03x3835 in-stock at the IBM Parts Sales number you posted above, possibly months for more; and while I specifically asked about alternative/replacement frus, server tech support (in Atlanta, GA, and seems to be staffed with very few knowledgable people) said there weren't any active ones. Lenovo only sells through the channel, no direct sales for server parts, so presumably one of their distributors (Ingram, Synnex, Supercom, Tech Data, D&H, Hartco) have them...
As an authorized reseller, I just brought in a TS430 0441-11U for a customer, but now I cannot find any drive trays for the 8 drives we're using.
It seems every time I try and sell/service something Lenovo, I have this 10+ phone call run around trying to get something done that should be easy enough.
