Best possible (compatible) graphics card?

There are just so many options out there, I'd like to hear some real-person recommendations.
I have a 2.0 GHz 1GB RAM 160GB iMac I bought in August last year. I'm a filmmaker recently getting into Machinima via the Sims 2 game. While the ATI Radeon 9600 it came with provides for good gameplay, the video capture quality within the game is horrible, and I'm looking to upgrade.
Price aside, what is the best possible graphics card compatible with my iMac for the purpose of machinima 3D video capture?
Thank you!

...do you know if the ATI Radeon x1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT would be decent enough for high-quality Sims 2 videos?
Sorry I don't know but I would suspect that you won't have a problem.

I am trying to upgrade my graphics card.  I recently purchased a  Zotac GeForce GTX 760 AMP Edition 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 DVI HDMI DisplayPort SLI Ready Graphics ...  .  I also installed the above mentioned power supply.  I installed both and when I went to start the computer, I got the HP logo blue screen with a message saying to press ESC key for start up menu, however the keyboard was unresponsive.   I updated the bios to this using this link  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-114777-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
The hp logo screen changed but that was about it.  Using the new card, I could get to the first boot screen, and to the hp logo, but then it would stay stuck on the hp logo.  Also if I tried to press f10, ctrl + f or any key, I would just get a black screen and nothing would happen.  I've read that this seems to be a common problem with the HPE models and the 700 series cards and have seen no solution.  I have already arranged to return the card figuring it's either defective or not compatible with my system.
So after all that, I've tried for the last hour to get a list of compatible graphics cards to upgrade my system, and have not found such a list.  I've found lists in the forums for other similar models, but I want to be absolutly sure before I make another purchase and have to go through all this trouble.
Any help would be appreciated and if more info is needed don't hesitate to let me know.

    Hi,
There are graphics card solutions posted on this forum. They may be hard ro find but they are psoted.  It's good that you checked the BIOS settings in the posted HP links as sometimes they get changed thinking that this will work better. However,  in the case for Windows 7 it's just the opposite.
You issue is not a driver problem. Check with the graphics card manufacturer for a remedy. If that particular card is video BIOS enabled for UEFI then you are stuck. You can either return the card or install Windows 8 in UEFI mode.
Another choice would be to try one of the below video cards that run in legacy or UEFI mode.

  • Angelica compatible graphic cards

Does anyone have a list or know  what graphic cards that are compatible with M3970AM-HP(Angelica)?  I'm currently using Asus Radeon HD 7770 Ghz card and Corsair CX600M PSU.  I already know the R series and 700 series and up are not compatible.  I want upgrade to HD 7800 or 7900 series card.

    Hi,
There isn't a list of compatible graphics cards other than what HP may have for the "configure-to-order" models using the same motherboard and BIOS levels.
What BIOS level is your PC running?  It must be version 7 or the NVIDIA 7xx models would have worked.
I suggest that you consider the following graphics cards that will work with a 300 watt power supply. Look for models that do not require an auxillary 6 pin power connector.
MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF . Be sure to get the exact model.
ZOTAC also has a NVIDIA 750 model and this NVIDIA 750 model that are compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1. All of Zotac's NVIDIA 750 models are advertised as backwards compatible to 1.1.
The reality is that there is no a guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs.  Know what the return policy is before you buy.

  • Mac Pro 5,1 (mid 2012) compatible graphic cards

    Hello everyone.
Which graphic cards are compatible with the Mac Pro 5,1 (mid 2012)?
It came with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB but the card presented problem and now need replacing. Its a very hard-to-find model in my city, so might I have other possibilities?
The thing is: the card is turning the computer off in the middle of an video editing process. The cooler is running very slowly... and it's working only with one monitor, displaying in 2 monitors is not possible anymore...
    Configuration:
    Mac Pro 5,1 (mid 2012)
    2x 2,4hz 6 core Intel Xeon
    32 GB DDR3
    OSX 10.9.4
    Thanks in advance!

There are more card options if you look around then what is in that tip.
Check out GeForce GTX 780 6G
A few apps like FCP-X 10.1+ benefit from dual AMD cards. So depends what you use to edit.

  • Compatible graphics cards for old G5s

I have one of the original G5 Dual Core Macs, introduced durring the summer of 2003. Does anyone know what graphics cards are compatible with this machine that are 128mb and above? Preferrably still available somehow...

I also have one of the original Dual G5s from october 2003 and my Radeon 9600 is dying a horrible death and I am utterly disappointed that I cannot find a replacement anywhere. Especially from Apple, of all companies.
ATI's backlog on the 9600 and 9800 are 40+ days and of course the x800 is discontinued totally.
I can't wait possibly 6 weeks for a video card rom anywhere? ROHS ***** but!!!!!!

  • Compatible graphics cards for AE 6.5

I currently am running AE 6.5 and need to change Graphics cards but I don't know what is compatible with it.  Does anyone happen to know?  Thanks for any input.

I teach and have 25 pcs in my lab and with the NJ money problems new pcs
or software are no longer a possibility.  I just remember when we first
bought 6.5 there was an issue with some effects and at that time Adobe
furnished a list of compatible cards.  They no longer have that info and
the documentation appears to be long gone from here.

  • Carmel2 compatible graphics card(s)?

Hi all, The OEM GT520 graphics card in my machine (a p6-2055a) is on its way out, making all sorts of grunting and groaning noises, and generaly getting far hotter than I am comfortable with.   I believe the only issue with the card is the cooling fan, but I have been unable to source a replacement locally (I'm in Canberra, Australia).  I have removed the card and done my best to maintain it, including re-applying thermal paste, and cleaning the card, heat sink, and internals of the fan as best as I could with compressed air, to no avail. I purchased and installed a replacement graphics card - a 2GB Gigabyte GT730.  However, when I boot the machine, it hangs at the HP screen, and beeps, once every 20 secs or so.  After the third beep, I get three very quick beeps, and the screen goes blank, and the box remains powered on.  Checking the forums, this seems to be a fairly common problem, but with no clear resolution for my motherboard. As far as I can tell, the above card should be compatible with the Carmel2 motherboard - it is a PCI-E 2.0 board, with DDR3, which meet the motherboard specs.  I am running version 7.16 of the BIOS, which I believe is the current version. Here are the questions: Are replacement cooling fans available for the GT 520 and, if so, where from?Is the GT730 compatible with the Carmel2 motherboard? If so, some help please, in getting it to work?If not, is there anything I can do to upgrade my system so that it is compatible (presumably, replacing the motherboard being the option...)?If there is no hope for the GT730, what GPUs are compatible with my system, out of the box? Eagerly anticipating your responses. Cheers,

  • Motherboard PTGD-LA Needs new compatible Graphic card

    Hi all,
I think this issue was raised before, but anyway here goes. I bought my desktop in 2005, a t3240.pt with Asus PTGA-LA motherboard with a PCIe 16 slot, P4 3.0 Ghz, 2M of RAM,
I need to install a new graphics cards which was stated in previous post a Nvidia GT240 512MB, does the manufacturar need to be nvidia or can I go for Asus. At the moment on the market I can purchase a
Asus GeForce PCI-E GT240 512Mb DDR3 for a reasonable price. I can purchase a Asus Gforce 8600 GT 512MB, will these be compatible with my MB?
I would also like to know if I purchase a graphics card with more memory?

ATI or NVIDIA does not matter. Some people just have preferences of one over the other. The only trick is knowing the characteristics of the GeForce models.
If you want one with more RAM then you will also need to upgrade your PSU.
The cards with 1GB of VRAM almost invariably have a requirement for  a 450 Watt or better PSU and at least one six-pin PCI Express power connector.
The original PSU (300 Watt) does not have the connector nor the power capacity..
    Best regards,

  • Compatible Graphics Card for M9400F???

I have an HP M9400F Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.  The computer came with a ATI Radeon HD 3650
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107730
I want to run Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 these are the graphics card requirements
    Supported NVIDIA or AMD GPU:
    NVIDIA
Requires a CUDA-enabled GPU and driver 270.xx or later.
GeForce GPUs: GeForce GTX 4xx Series or higher (or GeForce GT 2xx Series or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
Quadro GPUs: Quadro 600 or higher (or Quadro FX 1700 or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA Quadro for professional applications and recommends use of the latest boards based on the Fermi architecture.
    AMD/ATI
Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU. If using a FirePro GPU, FirePro unified driver 8.85 or later is required.
What would be my best upgrade option?  Im leaning Quadro 600 or higher but Im at my wits end trying to find what is compatible, whether I need to upgrade the 350w power supply.
I would like to run dual monitors and have a little more than what I need.  I don't want to have to upgrade again for awhile I guess.
Would the Quadro 600 be compatible?  That would take me from 512mb gpu to 1gb but a guy at Best Buy said it doesn't pay unless I go up to 2gb which takes me up to Quadro 2000D which is $250 more.  I would do that if it doesn't really pay to even get the 600.
Sorry Im lost when it comes to this.  Any advice is greatly appreciated

Quadros and FirePros are business cards, so quite expensive.
A Geforce GT640 would have 2 Gb too and work with a 350W psu.
Compare it with a Quadro FX 3700 or 3800 - it's one step before Q2000.

  • Compatible graphics card/s with 06 Mac Pro, 1,1

My graphics card failed in December 13. The technician suggested the ATI Radeon HD 5770 which I purchased (used) from a supplier. It failed 3 weeks ago so I bought another (identical card, ebay, used). Still no joy so sent to the same technician who confirmed that both cards were faulty. So as well as having an issue with the seller on ebay, I more importantly need to find a replacement card.
This is the card I bought (twice):
The same card is hard to find, although there seem to be variations of this card when I search for it, eg the 2x monitor plugs are on top of each other rather than side by side. I assume this type will fit? Or better still, is there a definitive list of compatible cards which will fit my machine, need to sort it ASAP.
    Very grateful for any help

  • Tips for a CS4 compatible graphic card?

Hi! Time to build a new machine. One of the things that use to mess up is the choice of graphic card. I always pic the wrong one, it seems. It would be great for any tip. The machine is going to be a Asus P6T Deluxe with Intel i7 processor and 6 or 12 Gb Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz memmory. The OS is XP or Vista, it depents. I expect that it still not possible to use more than 4 Gb RAM. I still pic a lot of RAM because I hope for the next windows to solve this...
    Regards / Jimmy

AE isn't really picky (and OpenGL in AE isn't really that critical, it works fine, and sometimes even better, without.)
It used to be that Nvidia cards had better drivers than ATI, but recently Nvidia's drivers have been causing a lot of problems on many systems so that's not such an easy recommendation to make anymore.
I'd avoid the 8800 cards as they have been known to cause the GUI in CS3 to become really slow, something that only occurs on some systems which makes it really hard to track down.
Unless you know you'll be using OpenGL in other programs than AE, I'd get a reasonably priced consumer card. I have the stock 7300 GS that came with my Mac Pro and it works fine even though it's slower than almost anything you can buy today. I occasionally use OpenGL in AE and always in Cinema 4D without a problem, so don't over-spend unless you are doing heavy OpenGL stuff in non-AE programs.

  • Compatible graphics cards for my motherboad?

    Hi guys
I would really appreciate it if someone would tell me what graphics cards I can upgrade to on my PC.
Right now I have intergrated graphics, and would like to remove that one and put in a dedicated graphics card instead.
Also I would like to do this because my x32 version of Windows isn't showing the full 4GB of RAM I just installed and is instead showing 3.49GB of RAM.  (Before I added the two extra RAM cards I had 1.99GB of RAM). And yes all 4 RAM cards are installed in Dual Channel mode. The Bios shows that I currently have 4096MB of RAM, but Windows shows 3.49GB. Anyway,  I'm certain the left over RAM is being allocated to the integrated graphics. I know x32 OS won't make use of the entire RAM installed, but I'm just wondering if this can be fixed if I just remove the on board graphics and replace it with a dedicated one that uses it's own memory?
If that won't get my x32 Windows to show that I have 4.00GB of RAM like it says in my bios screen, then I understand, since it is a x32 OS anyway, but I would still like to know if a dedicated graphics card would fix this.
If it can't fix the RAM issue, then I will just like to change my onboard graphics card to a dedicated one either way. But I would like to know what graphics cards are compatible with my motherboard. I will leave my PC specs and motherboard specs below.
PS: My intergrated graphics card is a PCI card. I would prefer a 'much better' dedicated PCI graphics card. The reason for this is because I only have just 1 PCI-e x16 slot and that is being used by my Asus Wifi card. So PCI graphics cards only guys.
    Thanks
    My PC specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00705316&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

The motherboard RAM issue is moot.  It is a given, all 32bit computers have about 3.3 - 3.6 GB of RAM available when you install 4GB's.  There's no spiriting away of RAM to the video, in most cases.  What you see is really what's there.  OK???
Your request of a PCI graphics card leaves little choice for a maximum situation/remedy.  This card does have a slight hurdle. It's going to need an adapter to get the video to your VGA monitor (guessing).  The DMS output cable provided is a dual DVI-I output. You still need a DVI-I to VGA adapter on one of the two output lends.
Although you've got a 300W PSU (likely rated at 235W sustained), the card adds 19W.   You might get away with it, but the manufacturer implies a 400W PSU per their website.
Someone might offer a rebuttal to the PCIEx16 slot for a wi-fi card, let me remark it's good choice:
The 82945G/82945GC/82945P/82945PL (G)MCH processor contains one 16-lane (x16) PCI Express port intended for an external PCI Express graphics card. The PCI Express port is compliant to the PCI Express* Base Specification, Revision 1.0a.   This is what your computer has, 1.0a        http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/307502.pdf
Overall motherboards designed for v2.0 will work with the other being v1.1 or v1.0a.
PCI Express 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management, support, and troubleshooting systems planned for full implementation in PCI Express 3.0. However, the speed is the same as PCI Express 2.0. Unfortunately, the increase in power from the slot breaks backward compatibility between PCI Express 2.1 cards and some older motherboards with 1.0/1.0a, but most motherboards with PCI Express 1.1 connectors are provided with a BIOS update by their manufacturers through utilities to support backward compatibility of cards with PCIe 2.1.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_1.0a
Now the real issue is your system.  You do know that WIN XP is now in  non-support mode. It has ended its lifecycle. There will be no MS updates.
