Best possible quality

every sunday, we do announcements for our church using final cut. i've got a master timeline that we put all the different announcements on. this timeline has sequences that range from all graphics to a mix of video and graphics.
the master timeline settings (as well as all the others) are for dv ntsc, i'm wondering if theres a better setting that i can change the master timeline to to really make the graphics pop, like 8-bit uncompressed or whatever. or is there no point and the difference in quality and increased render times be not worth doing?

I play uncompressed 8-bit sequences out through FireWire. I take the standard DV setup and change the codec to "uncompressed 8-bit".
But what I'm getting at the monitor is still DV quality. So in your case, if your only purpose is to play out this way on current equipment, there's no advantage.
If you had a capture card from AJA or Black Magic (or the Matrox MXO) you could be creating and outputting uncompressed video.

Given the fact your PAL movie is only 15 mins. long in terms of QT playback, here are the settings I'd recommend if you're concerned about higher quality playback:
    (3) G4 PM's/(3) S-Drives/Sony TRV900/Nikons/6FWHD's/PS7/iLife06/FCPHD/DVDSP/etc. Mac OS X (10.4.8) My ichatav AIM account is: SDMacuser1 (Please use Text chat prior to video)

  • How to get best possible quality ?

    Hey whats up!
I wonder how can i get a best possible quality out of After Effects? I dont care about size , i just want best quality.
Every time i record PC gameplay then i edit a little bit on After effects , but when i render it it loses some quality and when i upload on Youtube its not even 1080p. I mean i have option in youtube to watch it in 1080p but quality is not 1080p! Any advice?
    Thanks!

At the moment, this isn't about "quality", this is about horizontal and vertical dimensions of the video, and guess what?  You don't even MENTION them! Maybe you ought to try looking up those properties of your video clips and reporting back in.....

  • Best possible quality movie file?

I have a sequence that is DV Pal and my FCP is version 6.0.4
I need to render out with best quality as possible, what´s the best settings to get the best possible quality?
    Thanks

Export as QT movie, same settings, self-contained.
That's the best you can do to preserve best quality and avoid any compression steps.

  • AVCHD Editing - Export - Best possible quality?

    Hi there,
I own the panasonic hdc-sd9 (avchd). I´ve read millions of words regarding the quality, problems, exports, interlace and so on and (although I understand the details very well) after all I´ve been confused indeed.
What I really want to know (a nobody could answer in a clear and simple way) is the following:
    1. I´m able to import 1080p-movies into iMovie 08. Since iMovie only works with 540 lines, what happens to my video files? Does iMovie cut away every second frame? (1080p is not interlace!)
    2. If I use FCE or iMovie HD 06 and do an export of 1080i, applying an deinterlace-filter, how much lines will be exported (1080 or 540) ?
    3. The main problem: In which mode (1080i or 1080p) should I do the record, and how should I export then after editing (iMovie08, iMovie06 HD or FCE) to get the BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY WITHOUT INTERLACE ? That´s the simple question, nobody can answer to me.
    Kind regards

and AVCHD is of no use for iMHD6 too..
we noticed on araise of iM08 some weird effects on export of 'video' from within iM08 Projects (me old dv user, so forgive my ignorance making my test with that old Standard-standard): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1090633
afaik, AVCHD gets automatically converted to AIC to make it editable (=no 'native' AVCHD editor on Mac). what happens to progressive footage on export? No idea.. (lack of AVCHD files......)
that 'cheap' deinterlacer was meant for the QT-Deinterlacer feature: you can double any odd line to create 'progressive'; or, on professional equip, a DI would 'blend' the odd and even lines into two 'inbetween' lines..
Don't hesitate to perform your own tests, free tool JES Deinterlacer http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html - it uses that 'blending' techniqué.. does NOT rely on the Quicktime engine..
so, iMHD6/FCE3.5 is of no use for your device; iM08 could probably do weird things on export.. test it and share your insights, screen shots preferred..

  • How can I export 1080i in best possible quality for internet streaming?

Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about this but I have Final Cut 6.0.4 and use/captured in HD-1080i. What's the best possible way to export this in great quality for internet streaming? What dimensions should I use? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

ok i used h.264 main profile with 10 mbps and i am using multipass and size is 1280x720. i tried 24 and 30 key frames. quality is still lower
iv been experimenting on a 1.5 minute video to save time.  I imported the project from imovie into fcpx and changed nothing.  looking at the file that was created by imovie for the same video it is 1280x720 and uses codecs h.264 and aac the file size is 115 mb the extension is .mov and the color profile is HD (1-1-1) and total bitrate is 10,512 kbps. and the quality is the minimum acceptable for me.
The file i created using your settings above in compressor 4 is 118 mb and of lower quality. codecs used are h.264, aac, and Hint (not sure what hint is but noticed it isn't used with the .mov file) color prile is the same as above. total bitrate is 10,405 kbps.
Im not arguing that compressor 4 should be able to surpass imovie but so far i have only been able to do it by making the file size rediculous (>50 gb for 30 minutes).  I created a movie that was recorded with the same camera (25 mbps) 1080p 1920x1080. imovie made this 40 minute video just under 3 gb and with the same quality as the movie i am experimenting with.
There is a differnce between theory and practice. SO FAR THE RESULTS I AM SEEING IS THAT IMOVIE IS SUPERIOR IN QUALITY TO SIZE RATIO. imovie has very few options but the hd setting has surpassed what i have been able to do with fcpx.
i am willing to try any settings that anyone sugests.
personally i think i will try to export the movie at max quality then take the super large file to my windows laptop and convert to avi.  as in the past i have had much success with that format using divx. i realize that that is not the best method but i don't really want to spend hours re editing this video with imovie since the source footage is about 10 hours.
Thanks for trying still_learning but i am afraid you are still learning.

  • Keynote to DVD [best possible quality]

Hello everyone. What's the best way to output keynote presentations for DVD playback? Looking to get crisp text and sharp photos. Is this possible? Thank you. Donnie D.

DVD quality is quite less than computer screen resolution like 1024 X 768.
Exporting to Quicktime (full quality large screen) gave me the perfect, crisp presentation as a "player"
mode. That is, all the funky, wild transitions played perfectly and the user could go forward and backward (using the arrow keys on the keyboard). Exporting to Quicktime is the missing "Keynote Viewer." Everything looks and works the same as it does when in Keynote.
So, if you can send people a quicktime instead of a DVD, that might work better. Besides, most people have found they can only go forward in a DVD presentation, and not backward. Not the case in Quicktime.
    Hope that helps,
    bkabat

  • What are the settings for exporting the best possible quality movies?

I'm trying to export movies using imove 11, there are a ton of export setting, im wondering which are the best for exporting top quality movies? assuming file size doesnt matter.

ok so heres what the movie inspector says:
    Format: Photo- JPEG, 1024 x 576, Million Linear PCM, 24 bit little-endian signed integer, 2channels, 44100 Hz
    FPS: 17.80
    Data Rate:9.63 mbit/s
    Current Size:1024 x 576 pixels (actual)
So do i want to somehow duplicate these settings?
The other thing I was thinking about was opening the file in Quicktime and using the "trim" feature to edit it down that way, although its not as neat.  Would this preserve the quality? And would it get rid of the excess footage (which is what I want)? Or would it like keep that footage attached to the file somehow?
    Thanks

  • How to get a jpeg image to a movie with best possible quality

I've got a jpeg image from my 2 megapixel digital camera and I'm playing around with converting it to a movie. Yes, its a one image movie.
+QuickTime Pro+ does a superb job when I choose H.264, 1024 kb/s, but I can't get iMovie 5.0.2 to give me the same quality. This is what I have done:
    1. Create a new movie as type MPEG-4.
    2. Imported the jpeg image and adjust the time from 5 seconds to about 2 seconds.
    3. Select Share, choose H.264, 1024 kb/s from the relevant option and after the movie making happens, the quality is obviously inferior to that from +QT Pro+.
*QUES 1*: Why is the quality inferior?
I have been to iMovie help and noticed this comment:
"When you import clips in a format different from your project, they are converted to the video format of your movie."
*QUES 2*: Is this why my jpeg image is losing quality? Is iMovie converting it to something else?
Further, when the jpeg image is first imported, it is assigned a clip time of 5 seconds. When I move one of the sliders to reduce the time to just a few seconds, I notice that a black band appears at the top of the image in the iMovie window and as I make the time smaller, the image zooms in and the black band becomes wider. Letterboxing at the top seems to be occuring. This I can't fathom.
*QUES 3*: Why does iMovie zoom in when I adjust time?
Any comments most appreciated, especially those that tell me if iMovie can make a movie from jpeg images with the same quality as QT Pro -- and how to do that.

Re the quality -- I think I have answered this one myself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that when I select a video option (DV, HD 1080 and so on), iMovie sets up a frame size to suit, and the frame size that iMovie sets up for MPEG-4 happens to be 640 x 480, thus the poor quality of my jpegs when I selected that option. The poor quality had nothing to do with the MPEG-4 format.
Now the interesting things is, MPEG-4 is not limited to 640 x 480. It can be any size. So my question is:
Ques: Can I set up a movie within iMovie that is any size I want? QT Pro gave better results because it allows any size movie at all, and thus adjusted the movie size to my jpeg size (1800 x 1200 pixels) when I imported an image from my digital camera.
As it stands, not even the highest quality option in +iMovie 5.0.2+ (HD 1080) can handle the images from my piddly-little 2 megapixel camera.

  • Best possible quality PAL video to lowest possible file size

I have sort of a problem with exporting from FCP because the filesize is way to large to accept: I have a 17 minute long film shot in PAL CCIR 601 with stereo sound that I want to export to a videofile to share with friends. I would like to have full resolution but to limit the filesize to at least 500MB. I am now at around 3-4 GB and that's way too large.
And so I tried export the video through Compressor (I don't have that much experience in that program by the way), but all I got there was an extremely slow responding file with m2v file extension. So what I am looking for is a file containing (of course) both video and audio to a file format that they can watch. That'll be .avi, .mov or something. And I really want full resolution because that's what professional video editing is all about - high quality movie and not end up with a picture quality that is lower than when you started.
I also tried - just to mention - the H.264 codec from FCP but the file size didn't help really much. I tried to limit the Data rate to 5000Kbps and lower the resolution to 50% - then I got a 950MB file or so.
    Any help!

You can use the free [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com] to make H264 videos. It works with the QuickTime codecs you already have so results will be the same.
Experimenting with the data rate settings will display an estimate of the finished file size in the export window. You can also enable the preview window to see how things will look.

  • Best Possible Quality When Exporting?

Hi, I'm using Keynote '09 to make several graphics for a Final Cut Project. If the Final Cut project is set at 1280x720 at 29.97fps, what settings/compression type would render the HIGHEST QUALITY when I export out of Keynote?

There are two answers to this, you can export a file that has the highest technical image quality, or you can export something that your existing Final Cut project can use.
To use a clip in Final cut, the QuickTime  settings  must match exactly the sequence settings in Final Cut.
Therefore you must export from Keynote using the same CODEC and settings that the Final Cut sequence has.
If the quality from the export is not good enough, you will have to change the sequence settings in Final Cut and convert all the other clip settings to match, this procedure is generally not feasible.

  • Getting the best possible output video quality in Premiere 8.0

    Here is my PC information:
    Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Quad Core Q6600 @2.40 Ghz
    4.0 GB of Ram
    My Camera information:
    Kodak Playsport HD
Records videos in HD 720P @ 60 FPS
Saves movies in .MOV format, 1280 x 720 resolution, and H.264 codec
Now I am playing around with the settings but when I edit movies in Premiere Elements and then save it I always lose a lot of quality. I'm not really interested in sharing the videos on the web, I'm just looking for the best possible quality (as close to how it looks in its original form) for viewing on my home computer. Can anybody help me out with decent export settings that will give me the best overall quality?

Hello Bill and thank you for your respone, I appreciate it. I've managed to get the overall quality of the movie a lot better with using different presets at new project. I am now using the preset NTSC-HDV-HDV720p 30 and that seems to be working a lot better. I also save the final movies as a Quicktime file, with a Local Area Network (LAN) and then I go to advanced and bring up the quality to 100, change it to 1280x720, bring the frame rate up to 60, and set the bitrate at 8000.
I am now having a different problem however. It seems that when I add a music to the background the song messes up frequently. What I mean is that when I'm watching the movie I created the video will be playing normally and then at random times the song will skip or get choppy. Then on top of that, with certain transitions between scenes the transition won't even work, it will just freeze for a bit and then skip to the next scene (On a side note, I leave the "Field Type" as "Progressive" and the "Aspect" as "Square Pixels [1.0] simply because I'm not sure what those are for).
I just uploaded this practice video to youtube, if you want to check it out it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVorCPASaGM
Keep in mind I just threw together a couple random pictures and clips just to practice haha. You will be able to notice that the song and video get slightly choppy for some reason.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Creating the Best Video Quality for YouTube Using FCE

Hey guys, have a quick question.  I'm making drum covers for YouTube, and I want the best possible quality for my viewers.  I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on my MacBook Pro, and Log and Transfer the video footage from a HDR-CX160 Sony AVCHD Handycam.   What are my best options?
    Thank you!
    Justin

In every aspect of life there is no such thing as one best option as it all depends on your particular circumstances.
Here is a good starting point for you to decide what suits you best.
When you have edited your project in FCE try these settings:-
    Select File>Export>Using QT Conversion.
Click the "Options"  button and when the the Options window opens you will see  "Size", "Settings" and "Sound" buttons.
Click the Size button and set 1920 x 1080
Click  the Settings button and  select:-
    Compression Type . . . . H.264
    Frame Rate . . . . . . . . . Current
    Key Frames . . . . . . . . . Automatic
    Compressor Quality . . . High
Encoding . . . . . . . . . . "Faster" encode will give almost the same quality as "Best" but is twice as fast - your decision!
    Data Rate . . . . . . . . . . Restrict to 10,000kbps  (Don't use a comma when you enter the number)
Then click the "Audio" button and make sure that AAC has been selected.
These settings should give very good quality results fairly quickly, which should play well. Your file size will be around 5GB per hour.
Some people prefer to use the smaller 1280 x 720, in which case the Data Rate should be 5,000kbps.
I suggest you do a quick test with a film under one minute long to see how it looks as there is nothing worse than spending hours encoding a long project only to find that the settings were unsuitable.

I have one video that I can play on my notebook using QuickTime and iTunes 9.1.0.79; however, AppleTV can not play it because it was encoded at 192 Kbps with resolution higher than 720x432 pixels. The video is in MPEG-4 (.mp4). I'll have to check out handbrake and see if it will re-encode it (lower quality) for AppleTV.
I think you may need to check your video - certainly 720x432 is way below the specifications of the Apple TV. The HD content from the iTunes store at 1280x720 plays perfectly fine on my Apple TV and if I was you I certainly wouldn't even consider re-encoding a movie lower than 720x432 with HandBrake - it will look worse than it probably already does.
P.S. 192 Kbps has nothing to do with your video bit-rate, and as for AVI & WMV I think you may need to move on from your 80's obsession
