Best Practice Building Block Library not accessible in Firefox

Hello SAP Documentation Team,
I've just get aware of the <a href="http://help.sap.com/bp_bblibrary/500/BBlibrary_start.htm">Best Practice Building Block Library</a>. Unfortunately it can't be used with Firefox 1.5.0.4 because of a script error. I see the dropdown lists but when I select for example Country "Germany" nothing happens. In IE it works perfect.
Regards
Gregor

Hope that this will change with later Best Practice releases.

  • Best Practices for Keeping Library Size Minimal

My library file sizes are getting out of control. I have multiple library's that are now over 3TB in size!
My question is, what are the best practices in keeping these to a manageable size?
    I am using FCPX 10.2. I have three camera's (2x Sony Handycam PJ540 and 1x GoPro Hero 4 Black).
When I import my PJ540 videos they are imported as compressed mp4 files. I have always chosen to transcode the videos when I import them. Obviously this is why my library sizes are getting out of hand. How do people deal with this? Do they simply import the videos and choose not to transcode them and only transcode them when they need to work on them? Do they leave the files compressed and work with them that way and then transcoding happens when exporting your final project?
How do you deal with this?
As for getting my existing library sizes down, should I just "show package contents" of my library's and start deleting the transcoded versions or is there a safer way to do this within FCPX?
Thank you in advance for you help.

No. Video isn't compressed like compressing a document. When you compress a document you're just packing the data more tightly. When you compress video you do it basically by throwing information away. Once a video file is compressed, and all video files are heavily compressed in the camera, that's not recoverable. That information is gone. The best you can do is make it into a format that while not deteriorate further as the file is recompressed. Every time you compress a file, especially to heavily compressed formats, more and more information is discarded. The more you do this the worse the image gets. Transcoding converts the media to a high resolution, high data rate format that can be manipulated considerably without loss, and go through multiple generations without loss. You can't go to second generation H.264 MPEG-4 without discernible loss in quality.

  • Best practice when upstream does not provide version number

I'm currently preparing a package for the game Dreamfall Chapters, unfortunately the Developer does not (yet) provide a Version number.
What is the best practice for this? Just count the releases and set epoch when they finally provide one themselves?
    thanks in advance!

If you are missing a version number, you could use the date. Prefix it with "r" in case you want to avoid epoch when upstream decides to start versioning.
    pkgver=r20140122
If you have another release on the same day, increment another subversion
    pkgver=r20140122.1
Counting the releases by hand is poor practice (you could miss one). Do it only if upstream provides the count.
Edit: To tie the version stronger to the release, you can also add a part of the archive hash, e.g. +m###### with the first 6 characters of the md5sum.
    pkgver=r20140122+m23df1e
Edit: r as prefix is better, thanks rumpelsepp.

  • Best practice building custom navigation menu

    Greetings to the community!
Now there are different ways to build a navigation with APEX. 1) the default functionalities, 2) using JS-pugins, maybe others, I dont know of.
    3) I have now build one via html generated in a stored function, based on table-data, output with htp.p(functionHTMLMenu); in an pl/sql-region and formatted with css, according to the common html markup: <ul><li><a...>text</a></li>...</ul>. ...nothing special Is this a good practice? - Considering other functionalities that apex may offer?
I have recently read on Ask Tom, that he woudlnt use htp.p nowadays. I have looked around a lot for a description on the different htp-functions: .p, .prn, .anchor... and not really found anything usefull. What really are the differenced? (edit: finally found the right documentation ;) )
Why I dont use the build-in functionalities for navigation? first, I want to style them a bit nicer, and 2nd and more relevant: the generation and selection of the individual navigation items will strongly depend on user access authorisation and will be very flexible.
So, would you build a navigation as descriped above, sending a fat varchar2-string into the page? Or are there more elegant ways, like using page-zero proccesses, app-list-items or the like (which I am not so familiar with as of yet).
Thanks for any advice and tips,
    so long,
    tobi

Dynamic lists are the obvious "more elegant way" you're apparently not aware of. Custom list templates enable them to be styled however you want. However you've failed to provide the APEX version you are using, so we don't know if this 4.1 feature is available to you. If not, then a report with a custom template is a close approximation in earlier versions.
Given suitably complex requirements I have no problem with using a PL/SQL region to generate navigation options output using <tt>htp.p</tt>. I think you're safe in that this would be covered by TK's +"...every now and then in a snippet of code in APEX maybe..."+ ;-)
Whether list, report or PL/SQL, also consider if caching the region to improve performance is possible.

  • Aperture Library not accessible (Aperture 2.1)

    Hello
Aperture 2.1 on Intel-Mac suddenly ignores completely the content of my Aperture Library! The file ApertureLibary.aplibrary is there and with Finder I can see that my photos are included, but within Aperture I get an empty set - no photos are shown anymore. I can't remeber to have changed anything on my Mac so it is a complete mysterium why Aperture is not showing me my photos. I tried to delete preferences of Aperture but without success. It's very strange. Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    Gian-Reto.

Than you for this hint. It helped - at least, my pictures are shown again.
But now, Aperture is rebuilding my projects each time I start the application (without option/command pressed, of course). That's not very comfortable, because starting time is much, much longer now.

  • Best Practice to Mothball Library against future need

we have a StorageTek L20 library with an Ultrium 3 drive
We've basically stopped using it, because we're using Backup-to-Disk now, but of course we have a lot of history on tape, which we may need to restore some time in the future.
What's the best thing to do with the Drive & the Library?
    Should we:
power the whole thing down & store in a cool place in an airtight bag with desiccant
leave it all powered up so it's dry
leave it all powered up & do a test restore from time to time
the chances are that we'll never need it, however one can never be sure.
and - should we - if we can - keep it on Maintenance?
    Dave

    Theres several aspects to this.
    Large lists:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc262813%28v=office.14%29.aspx
A blog summarising large databases here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/pandrew/archive/2011/07/08/articles-about-scaling-sharepoint-to-large-content-database-capacity.aspx
    Boundaries and limits:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787%28v=office.14%29.aspx#ContentDB
If at all possible make your web service clever enough to split content over multiple site collections to allow you to have smaller individual databases.
It can be done but you need to do a lot of reading on this to do it well. You'll also need a good DBA team to maintain the environment.

  • Metachain - after activation, is it best practice to schedule or not to

Metachain-type process chains do not need to be scheduled to run when they are called.  As long as they have been activated, metachains wil run when they are called by another chain.  Nonetheless, it has been my personal practice to schedule metachains after activation.  This appears to allow run parameters to be set, such as priority and server.  It also schedules included processes, such as interrupts.  The metachain still will not run until it is called from another process chain.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to scheduling metachains after activation?

  • Any best practices sharing iPhoto library between iMac and MacBook Pro

I have my iPhoto library on my iMac, but I would also like to view and edit keywords, etc on my MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions on how to do this?

    Larry
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running. On the other machine enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machies for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto ion both machines.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

    Hi Juleslovesmusic,
If you are receiving an error message about the itunes.itl (iTunes Library) file being created by a newer version of iTunes, you may want to make sure that you are installing the most recent version available. You can download the most recent version directly from the link in the following article:
