  • PX Best Practice doc for vSphere?

Is there a best practice doc for utilizing the PX devices in a vSphere environment?  Specifically I'm interested in 'Boot from SAN' for two vSphere 5.1 Host servers (RD630's) dual switch iSCSI connected to a PX12-450.
If no Best Practice then perhaps a Config doc?
    Thanks

    Hi neilchapman,
I am not too familiar with vSphere personally or how to boot from SAN, but as far as I know you create the iSCSI LUN on the NAS device and use vSphere to connect to the LUN. Do you need help with setting up the iSCSI LUN or with configuring vSphere? If you need assistance with vSphere, you might want to contact VMware support: http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere/

  • Want the best practices docs on Oracle database Admin provided by Oracle

    Hi there,
I looked at everywhere and didn’t find the best practices docs on Oracle database administration especially on creating db in oracle 10g dbs. I can find bits and pieces here and there. But I didn’t find all incorporated in one. Could somebody direct/provide me on this?

ok, I'm not looking for the oracle provided manual to find out the best practices in db field. I'm looking for the best practices when creating the db in oracle db, for example. I can read all the oracle manual in Oracle tihiti world. But I don't know the most used and practical things to do when creating the db:- If I have to define what should be the best practices when creating the db, here are the checklist:
Here are the best practices when creating the Oracle 10 DBs:
    1.     Create meaningful database name
    2.     Create the directory structure following the Optimal Flexible Architecture(OFA)
    a.     Give suffix for the redo log .LOG
    b.     Give suffix for the data file .DBF
    c.     Give suffix for the Control file .CTL
    3.     Enable Password complexity
    4.     Enable ARCHIVELOG Mode
    5.     Use User Oracle Managed File
    6.     Create separate tablespace for data files and Indexes
    7.     Put archive log in different multiple drives
    8.     Multiplex redo log files, and control file
    etc.
I want to see what other db gurus considers the best practices in the field.

  • Best practice Doc

    Hi,
    I just want to confirm
    AdfFacesContext ctx = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    if
    (!("*d6*").equals(dialogEvent.getComponent().getId().toString()))
    ctx.addPartialTarget(this.getXXXs());
    this.executeXXX();
coding above code in ManagedBean for a .jsff page is a coding standard? Where d6 is an id of a dialog <af:dialog id="d6">
Please share a document or link to support your reply. As per me its not. As id can be changed.
    Thanks,
    Atul

    Hi,
Usually, work with ids is not a best practice, in general development web.
    What is your use case?

  • Typos in Oracle Spatial Best Practices doc by Dan Geringer

    Hi there,
I was looking through Dan Geringer's notes setting up SDO_JOIN to run in parallel here:
    http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/spatial/pdf/oow2010/spatial/spatialoow10_bestpractices.pdf
Anyhow, noticed few boo-boos all having to do with table aliases in the examples. They are not too hard to catch but still might trip up folks.
On page 37, the example is missing a table alias of "a". E.g. it should say
CREATE TABLE result1 NOLOGGING PARALLEL 4 AS
    SELECT a.rowid1 AS risk_zones_rowid,
    a.rowid2 AS parcels_rowid
    FROM TABLE (SDO_JOIN ('RISK_ZONES', 'GEOM',
' PARCELS', 'GEOM')) a;but its missing that final "a".
On page 38, the table aliases are incorrect in the relate statement. E.g. it should be
CREATE TABLE result2 NOLOGGING PARALLEL 4 AS
    SELECT /*+ ordered use_nl (a,b) use_nl (a,c) */
    sdo_geom.relate (b.geom, 'DETERMINE', c.geom, .05) relation,
    b.risk_zone_id, c.parcel_id
    FROM result1 a, risk_zones b, parcels c
    WHERE a.risk_zones_rowid = b.rowid
AND a.parcels_rowid = c.rowid;Nothing too serious but thought I'd point it out.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for pointing out the typos. Will forward them to Oracle Technical Doc group to have them corrected.

  • Importing SECTIONS (not Styles) from ePub Best Practices Sample Doc

I have successfully imported STYLES from the ePub Best Practices Sample Document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4168) into an existing Pages document. However, the Best Practices doc also has defined SECTIONS which you can see by clicking on the sections button in the toolbar.
How can I get those defined Section types (i.e. Table of Contents, Index, etc.) into my other document which does not included those?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
With the sample document and your new Pages document, View > Page Thumnails. Click on a thumbnail in the sample doc, Edit > Copy. Click in the thumbnail pane in the new doc and Edit > Paste. I guess this does the same as selecting and copying the text in the doc window.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Best Practice Document required for MDM

    Hi All,

  • Auto-Anchor Controller's Best Practice

    Hi All,
I got confused with this setup. I have 2 Wlc's.One is the internal controller and another one configured for the anchor controller (different subnet-DMZ zone) for guest traffic. Where do i configure DHCP assignment for this users..? Should Production controller intervine in this dhcp process or shall i direct to Anchor to take care of everything..? which is recommended ?
And also any best practice doc is available for this ..?
    Please help...
    thanks in advance.

    Prasan,
Just keep in mind that there are best practices that are published and best practices that you learn from experience. Being a consultant, I get to implement wireless in various networks and everyone's network is quite different. Also code versions can change a best practice because of bug issues or how a standard might of changed and how that standard was implemented in code. The biggest best practice secret is really working with various client devices, scanner's, laptops, smartphones, etc., and seeing how those change because of newer models and it firmware updates. It's amazing to understand how some devices will require a few checkboxes in the WLAN to be disabled compared to others. Even with anchoring for guest and using a custom WebAuth to make sure the splash page works with various types of browsers.
What I can say is to always try the defaults if possible when you have issues and then enable things one by one.

  • Best practice for number of result objects in webi

    Hello all,
I am just wondering if SAP has any recommendation or best practice document regarding number of fields in Result Objects area for webi. We are currently running on XI 3.1 SP3...one of the end user is running a webi with close to 20 objects/dimensions and 2 measure in result objects. The report is running for 45-60 mins and sometimes timing out. The cube which stores data has around 250K records and the report would return pretty much all the records from the cube.
    Any recommendations/ best practices?
On similar issue - our production system is around 250GB what would be the memory on your server typically...currently we have 8GB memory on the sap instance server.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You mention Cubes so i suspect BW or MS AS .   Yes,  OLAP data access (ODA) to OLAP DataSets is a struggle for WebIntelligence which is best at consuming Relational RowSets.
Inefficient MDX queries can easily be generated by the webi tool, primeraly due to substandard (or excessive) query and document design. Mandatory filters and focused navigation (i.e. targetted BI questions) are the best for success.
Here's an intersting article about "when is a webi doc too big" https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/18706
Here's a best practice doc about webi report design and tuning ontop of BW MDX : https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000750762010E
Optimization of the cube itself, including aggregates and cache warming is important. But especially  use of Suppress Unassigned nodes in the BW hierarchy, and "query stripping" in the webi document.
finally,  patch level of the BW (BW-BEX-OT-MDX) component is critical.  i.e. anything lower than 7.01 SP09 is trouble. (memory management, mdx optimization, functional correctness)

  • BC4J Best Practices

    Hi,
I am looking for any best practices doc from Oracle or anyone on implementing features in BC4J objects. Examples will be "Where a method/feature should go?"
I am facing a choice of writing the insert, update and delete methods in the view objects, but it is equally possible and correct if I have them in the app modules, by obtaining a handle to the view object. But which one is the best practice?
Please add your comments and suggestion to this thread?
    Patrick.

    Hi,
We use only Stateful release modes for application modules, defined in the action mappings in struts-config.xml exactly the same way as in your example. Stateful mode releases the module instance back to the pool and it can be reused by other sessions as well. However, all the code that uses the app modules and view objects, etc, must be written with the assumption that the module or the view object the code is operating on can be a different instance from the one in the previous request in the same session.
The concept of BC4J is that this recycling of modules should be transparent for the users of the app modules, but this is not exactly the case. Some things are not passivated in the am's snapshots and are not activated in case of recycling, for example, custom view object properties or entries in the userData map (or at least were not in 9.0.5, I doubt this is changed in 10.1.2.) These are things that you have to manually passivate and activate if you use them to store some information that is relevant to a particular user session.
All chances are that these strange things that you experience only occur in sessions that use recycled application modules, that is, there was passivation and subsequent activation of vo and am states. I have found it useful as a minimum to test the application with only 1 application module in the pool and at least 2 user sessions, constantly recycling this one am instance. Many of the problems that will surface in a real application usage only when there is a high load can be experienced in this artificial setup.

  • NAC best practices

    Hello --
Is there a best practice doc that explains how best to deploy NAC? Also, is it possible to deploy the NAC agent remotely?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Ohamien

From my experience there are so many configurable parts and ways to approach NAC that it truly will depend on your situation. The best practice I can suggest is to read as many sources as possible. You may also want to check out the latest book on the NAC appliance from the Cisco Press:
Cisco NAC Appliance, Enforcing Host Security with Clean Access by Jamey Heary.
You should check out these links, too:

  • Project Server / Project Pro = Cut and Paste official best practices to avoid corruption

It is pretty common knowledge among Project Server veterans that Cut and Paste between Project Pro files can cause corruption with the assignment table. This leads to Publish and Reporting (Project Publish)
failures. I just went through an upgrade from Project Server 2007 to 2013 and a LOT of files had to be rebuilt from scratch.
I ask my users to not Cut and Paste within or between project files. They do not always listen.
I have looked and cannot find official Microsoft text on the subject or at least some sort of official best practices doc. It would help me prevent some corruption if I had a doc with a Microsoft logo that says “It is not recommended….”
Or “If you do this you will make your admin cry…”
If this doc is right in front of me and I just missed it I apologize in advance.
    Thanks

    John --
To the best of my knowledge, there is no such Best Practice document from Microsoft.  Based on my experience with Project Server from Project Central through Project Server 2013, following are some items that can cause corruption in your project:
Use of special characters in the name of the project.
Cutting/copying/pasting entire task rows within a single enterprise project or between multiple enterprise projects.
Opening an enterprise project on your laptop while connected to a wireless network, then closing the laptop lid, walking to another room in the building when you pass from one wireless access point to another, and then opening the laptop lid again.
I learned this from one of our former clients.
Beyond this, there are some other items that will not corrupt your project, but which will cause problems with saving or publishing a project.  These items include:
Using blank rows in the project.
Using special characters in task names.
Task names that start with a space character (this sometimes happens when copying and pasting from an Excel workbook).
In both Project Server 2010 and 2013, the recommended method for resolving a corrupted project is to use the Save for Sharing feature. Refer to my directions in the following thread on how to use the Save for Sharing feature:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/projectserver/en-US/ec2c5135-f997-40e1-8fe1-80466f86d373/task-default-changing?forum=projectprofessional2010general
Beyond what guidance I have provided, I am hoping other members of this community will add their thoughts as well.  Hope this helps.

  • Best Practice for New Doc Version?

I'm a RH novice who needs to create a V1.1 doc based on the
V1.0 source topics, TOC, and images. I'm using RH HTML X5. What is
my best practice? The previous author left a unclear doc suggesting
    something like the following:
Copy the current V1.xpj, V1.hhc, and V1.hhp files and rename
    them as V1.1.xpj, V1.1.hhc, and V1.1hhp
Place the renamed files in the V1 root directory and open the
    V1.1.xpj file.
    Create and edit new content
Not understanding RH too well, this seemed reasonable. It
appears what he is suggesting will bring everything forward in a
new project, but leave the V1 structure intact. I tried this, and
it seemed to be working but I was confused by RH also making
changes to the OLD V1.cpd and V1.pss (I don't know that those files
    are).
So, apparently the copied files contain references to at
least the old cpd and pss files (and maybe others). I'm concerned
that continuing down this path will corrupt V1 and leave me
mis-matched conventions. Some files being V1, and some being V1.1.
Is there a how-to somewhere that can help me create a new
version and not muddy up the old? Do any X5 gurus remember how they
    did this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith

    Peter,
Hopefully you'll see this. I tried you suggestion. Opened the
old file and renamed the project. About 10 links came up broken
that weren't broken before. Any ideas why this would happen. I
didn't make any changes other than the rename.
    Thanks,
    Keith
