Best practice for "Quantity" field in Asset Master

Hi
I want to know what is the best practice for "Quantity field" in asset master. It should be made displayed only or required field in Asset Master creation.
Initially I made this field as required entry. So user entered 1 quantity. At the time of posting F-90, he again entered quantity. So my quantity in asset master got increased. Hence i decided to make that field display only in asset master creation.
Now i made that field as display only in asset master creation. At the time of posting F-90, that quantity field is not coming only. I check my field status group for posting key as well as GL account. Its optional field. Inspite of that user is able to make entry in F-90. Now quantity field is '0' only in asset master even though there is some value in asset.
Please help what is the best practice wrt quantity field. Should be open in asset master or it should be display only.

Hi:
SAP Standard does not recommend you to update quantity field in asset master data.  Just leave the Qty Field Blank , just mention the Unit of Measure as EA. While you post acquisition through F-90 or MIGO this field will get updated in Asset master data automatically. Hope this will help you.

  • Best practice for linking fields from multiple entity objects

I am currently transitioning from PHP to ADF. I'm looking for the best practice for linking data from multiple entity objects.
    Example:
EO 'REQUESTS' has fields: req_id, name, dt, his_stat_id, her_stat_id
EO 'STATUSES' has fields: stat_id, short_txt_descr
'REQUESTS' is linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.his_status_id
'REQUESTS' is also linked to EO 'STATUSES' on: STATUSES.stat_id = REQUESTS.her_status_id
    REQUESTS.his_status_id is independent of REQUESTS.her_status_id
    When I create a VO for REQUESTS, I want to display: REQUESTS.name, REQUESTS.dt, STATUSES.short_txt_descr (for his_stat_id), STATUS.short_txt_descr (for her_stat_id)
What is the best practice for accomplishing this? It appears I could do it a few different ways:
    1. Create the REQUESTS VO with a LOV for his_stat_id and her_stat_id
    2. Create the REQUESTS VO with the join to STATUSES performed within the query for the VO. This would require joining on the STATUSES EO twice (his_stat_id, her_stat_id)
    3. I just started reading about View Links - would that somehow do what I'm looking for?
I also need to be able to update his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr from a dropdown.
Any suggestions on how to approach such a stupidly simple task?
Using jDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0 if that makes a difference in the solution.
    Thanks ahead of time,
    CJ

    CJ,
I vote for solution 1 as it's just your use case. As you said you what to update the his_status_id and her_status_id through the by selecting a STATUSES.short_txt_descr by a drop down. This is exactly the LOV solution.
ViewLinks are used fro master detail navigation (which you don't do here) and Joining the data make it difficult to update (and you still need a LOV for the drop down box.

  • Quantity field in Asset Master

    Dear All,
We have created one Asset e.g. "Drawframe" which includes the total acqusition value of 10 Drawframes i.e. if 1 drawframe is of 1000 Rs/- then we have included 10,000 Rs (1000*10) in single asset "Drawframe".
    Now my query is:
When I sell one drawframe then how would I be able account it in Asset accounting, because I have a single asset with combined drawframe values.
I saw quantity field in the Asset Master. Please let me know if the use of this field in my case.
    Regards

    hi
check out this SAP explanation for that field
    Quantity
Quantity that the system manages on the asset
    Use
For assets in which a base unit of measure is entered, you can enter a quantity when you post acquisitions and retirements. The system then updates the asset according to this quantity when you post, based on the debit/credit flag of the transaction posted.
In addition, you can already specify a quantity when you create a new asset master record. However, any quantity you enter in master data maintenance (such as 1) is added to any quantity that is entered in the acquisition posting.

  • Best Practice for Impairment Of Fixed Assets

    Dear friends,
I have seen lots of thread about impairment of fixed assets. However, lots of it have different solutions and some resulted in need to use different depreciation area too.
Since IFRS is so common to all countries nowadays, I believe SAP should have a standard solution for treatment of impairment for fixed assets. Basically, it should affect only depreciation area 01 so that asset history sheet will show all movement of fixed assets in one sheet, show reduced the depreciation calculated IMMEDIATELY (not only in new fiscal year when using unplanned depreciation),  and also be able to reverse that impairment accordingly subjected to limitation of earlier impairment value and what taken out via reduced depreciation.
What is the BEST standard practice that all consultants can use as long as that country follow IFRS? Other packages already have a fixed solution but in SAP, we are still disputing which is the right one.
    Thanks,
    Stephen Siew

    Hi  Stephen,
How you set it up is based on your bussiness requirements, (paralel ledgers, currencies,...) In the most cases you have more depreciation area's some are creating posting other ones are statistical.
I think in the most cases you will have a minimum from 3 depreciation areas
01 Local books  Real-on that create postins
02 Tax book      Based on the local tax rules
10 IFRS            Create postings or not
When you use IFRS you have to think about the transaction AR29N - Post Revaluation and New Valuation (see the help there).
With this transaction you can upload (new) values  from am excel file Search on this forum with AR29N, Marcus give some tips about it
You can use idexes to for doing the revaluation

  • Best practice for handling local external assets in Air?

When setting up a project (as3 mobile not flex framework ideally), where and how might one place their runtime-loaded application assets?
Especially, does anyone have example code for referencing local files such that it works across android, iOS and the local debugger/local playback?
    Thanks,

Just have a folder to collect your assets and call with an relative path. Because you'r going to attach the files and folder while packaging which is refered by your app.

We are in the process of bringing data over from our GRC AC 5.3 environment to GRC AC 10 and have ran into issues during Migrations. My company has a requirement to produce a report with variable output, based upon a keyword search of our CRM Request Notes data.  Example:  The business wants a report return of all Service Requests where the Notes field contains the word "pay" or "payee" or "payment".  As part of the report output, the business wants to freely select the output fields meant to accompany the notes data.  Can anyone please advise to SAP's Best Practice for meeting a report requirement such as this.  Is a custom ABAP application built?  Does data get moved to BW for Reporting (how are notes handles)?  Is data moved to separate system?

  • What is the best practice for creating master pages and styles with translated text?

I format translated text all the time for my company. I want to create a set of master pages and styles for each language and then import those styles into future translated documents. That way, the formatting can be done quickly and easily.
What are the best practices for doing this? As a company this has been tried in the past, but without success. I'd like to know what other people are doing in this regard.
    Thank you!

I create a master template that is usually void of content, with the exception I define as many of the paragraph styles I believe can/will be used with examples of their use in the body of the document--a style guide for that client. When beginning a new document for that client, I import those styles from the paragraph styles panel.
Exception to this is when in a rush I begin documentation first, then begin new work. Then in the new work, I still pull in those defined paragraph and or object styles via their panels into the new work.
There are times I need new styles. If they have broader applicability than a one-off instance or publication, then I open the style template for that client and import that style(s) from the publication containing the new style(s) and create example paragraphs and usage instructions.
    Take care, Mike

  • Best practices for using the 'cost details' fields

    Hi
Please could you advise us to the best practices for using the 'cost details' field within Pricing. Currently I cannot find the way to surface the individual Cost Details fields within the Next Generation UI, even with the tick box for 'display both cost and price' ticked. It seems that these get surfaced when the Next Generation UI is turned off, but cannot find them when it is turned on. We can see the 'Pricing Summary' field but this does not fulfill our needs, as some of our services have both recurring and one-off costs.
Attached are some screenshots to further explain the situation.
    Many thanks,
    Richard Thornton

    Hi Richard,
If you need to configure dynamic pricing that may vary by tenant and/or if you want to set up cost drivers that are service item attributes, you should configure Billing Tables in the Demand Management module in 10.0.
The cost detail functionality in 9.4 will likely be changed to merged with the new pricing feature in 10.0.  The current plan is not to bring cost detail into the Service Catalog module.

  • How to display field Functional Location Field in Asset Master Data

    Dear Experts,
I really appreciate for your advices on how to display Functional Location Field in Asset Master data.
I have checked the configuration on path IMG:\Financial Accounting->Asset Accounting->Master Data->Screen Layout->Define Screen Layout for Master Data
I have chosen the screen layout and review all Logical Field Groups. And there's no field "Functional Location" is available. I also didn't find "Add New" button to add "Functional Location" field.
    Thank you
    Best regards,
    Frans

    Dear Frans,
I am sorry this is not possible.
    Note 140482:
The field was created as a precaution. However, it is not being used at
present and consequently is not supplied.
In particular, you cannot use the field as a criterion for a selection
in Asset Accounting reporting. This is still true even if this field has
been included in the selection view delivered for the dynamic selections
    by modification.

    Sales and Marketing
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports the following sales and marketingu2013related business processes:
Sales order processing u2013 In this scenario, SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports order entry, delivery, and billing. Chemical industry functions include the following:
u2022 Triggering an available-to-promise (ATP) inventory check on bulk orders after sales order entry and automatically creating a filling order (Note: an ATP check is triggered for packaged material.)
u2022 Selecting batches according to customer requirements:
u2022 Processing internal sales activities that involve different organizational units
Third-party and additional internal processing u2013 In this area, the SAP Best Practices for Chemicals package provides an additional batch production step that can be applied to products previously produced by either continuous or batch processing. The following example is based on further internal processing of plastic granules:
u2022 Purchase order creation, staging, execution, and completion
u2022 In-process and post process control
u2022 Batch assignment from bulk to finished materials
    u2022 Repackaging of bulk material
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals features several tools that help you take advantage of chemical industry best practices. For example, it provides a fully documented and reusable prototype that you can turn into a productive solution quickly. It also provides a variety of tools, descriptions of business scenarios, and proven configuration of SAP software based on more than 35 years of working with the
    Chemical industry.
SAP Functions in Detail u2013 SAP Best Practices for Chemicals
The package can also be used to support external toll processing such as that required for additional treatment or repackaging.
Tank-trailer processing u2013 In this scenario, SAP Best Practices for Chemicals helps handle the selling of bulk material, liquid or granular. It covers the process that automatically adjusts the differences between the original order quantities and the actual quantities filled in the truck. To determine the quantity actually filled, the tank trailer is weighed before and after loading. The delta weight u2013 or quantity filled u2013 is transmitted to the SAP software via an order confirmation. When the delivery for the sales order is created, the software automatically adjusts the order quantity with the confirmed filling quantity. The customer is invoiced for the precise quantity filled and delivered.
    Supply Chain Planning and Execution
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports supply chain planning as well as supply chain execution processes:
Supply and demand planning u2013 Via the SAP Best Practices for Chemicals package, SAP enables complete support for commercial and supply-chain processes in the chemical industry, including support for integrated sales and operations planning, planning strategies for bulk material, and a variety of filling processes with corresponding packaging units. u2022 Quality inspections for raw materials, including sampling requests triggered
    by goods receipt
    Manufacturing Scenarios
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports the following sales and
    Manufacturingu2013related business processes:
Continuous production u2013 In a continuous production scenario, SAP Best Practices for Chemicals typifies the practice used by basic or commodity chemical producers. For example, in the continuous production of plastic granules, production order processing is based on run-schedule headers. • Best Practices for Team Collaboration using Adobe Captivate

With a team of 6 Instructional Designers, how can Adobe Captivate be approached where we can collaborate while producing e-learning material while maintaining a consistent look and feel of the e-learning we produce?
What are the best practices for a team of 6 IDs working and creating e-learning material in Captivate?  Is there anything build-in that allows us to connect to the same libraries, templates, etc to share?
    Please advise.
    Thank you!
    Susanne

Only some tips, never collaborated with someone else, being the solo teacher. You didn't mention which version you are using, what I write here is meant for CP7.
Be sure to prepare a theme and/or a template that will be used by everyone. A theme consists of master slides, object styles, skin editor. Master slides can have custom navigation shape buttons.  In a template you can eventually also prepare different slides with placeholders, and eventually advanced actions etc. For CP6 and earlier that is the only way to reuse advanced actions, in Captivate 7 you can export shared actions that can be imported in any project for reuse.
A feature that few users know about are the external libraries. You can open the library of any project as an external library in another project. That is a good idea to store assets that you want to use in different projects: images, audio clips, video clips, eventually equations. The shared actions in a library can not (yet?) be used in another project however.
If you are on CP7 you have automatically the roundtripping with source Adobe Photoshop files and source Audition files, both from CC. That can also make collaboration lot easier if those assets are prepared in those applications. Will not expand on that, because I'm not sure you have the Creative Cloud applications.
    Those are my two cents.

  • Best Practices for Using Photoshop (and Computing in General)

I've been seeing some threads that lead me to realize that not everyone knows the best practices for doing Photoshop on a computer, and in doing conscientious computing in general.  I thought it might be a good idea for those of us with some exprience to contribute and discuss best practices for making the Photoshop and computing experience more reliable and enjoyable.
It'd be great if everyone would contribute their ideas, and especially their personal experience.
Here are some of my thoughts on data integrity (this shouldn't be the only subject of this thread):
Consider paying more for good hardware. Computers have almost become commodities, and price shopping abounds, but there are some areas where spending a few dollars more can be beneficial.  For example, the difference in price between a top-of-the-line high performance enterprise class hard drive and the cheapest model around with, say, a 1 TB capacity is less than a hundred bucks!  Disk drives do fail!  They're not all created equal.  What would it cost you in aggravation and time to lose your data?  Imagine it happening at the worst possible time, because that's exactly when failures occur.
Use an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).  Unexpected power outages are TERRIBLE for both computer software and hardware.  Lost files and burned out hardware are a possibility.  A UPS that will power the computer and monitor can be found at the local high tech store and doesn't cost much.  The modern ones will even communicate with the computer via USB to perform an orderly shutdown if the power failure goes on too long for the batteries to keep going.  Again, how much is it worth to you to have a computer outage and loss of data?
Work locally, copy files elsewhere.  Photoshop likes to be run on files on the local hard drive(s).  If you are working in an environment where you have networking, rather than opening a file right off the network, then saving it back there, consider copying the file to your local hard drive then working on it there.  This way an unexpected network outage or error won't cause you to lose work.
Never save over your original files.  You may have a library of original images you have captured with your camera or created.  Sometimes these are in formats that can be re-saved.  If you're going to work on one of those files (e.g., to prepare it for some use, such as printing), and it's a file type that can be overwritten (e.g., JPEG), as soon as you open the file save the document in another location, e.g., in Photoshop .psd format.
Save your master files in several places.  While you are working in Photoshop, especially if you've done a lot of work on one document, remember to save your work regularly, and you may want to save it in several different places (or copy the file after you have saved it to a backup folder, or save it in a version management system).  Things can go wrong and it's nice to be able to go back to a prior saved version without losing too much work.
Make Backups.  Back up your computer files, including your Photoshop work, ideally to external media.  Windows now ships with a quite good backup system, and external USB drives with surprisingly high capacity (e.g., Western Digital MyBook) are very inexpensive.  The external drives aren't that fast, but a backup you've set up to run late at night can finish by morning, and if/when you have a failure or loss of data.  And if you're really concerned with backup integrity, you can unplug an external drive and take it to another location.
This stuff is kind of "motherhood and apple pie" but it's worth getting the word out I think.
    Your ideas?
    -Noel

APC Back-UPS XS 1300.  $169.99 at Best Buy.
Our power outages here are usually only a few seconds; this should give my server about 20 or 25 minutes run-time.
I'm setting up the PowerChute software now to shut down the computer when 5 minutes of power is left.  The load with the monitor sleeping is 171 watts.
This has surge protection and other nice features as well.
