    Hi all
is there a best practice for auto update flex web applications, much in the same way AIR applications have an auto update mechanism?
can you please point me to the right direction?
    cheers
    Yariv

    Hey drkstr
I'm talking about a more complex mechanism that can handle updates to modules being loaded into the application ect...
I can always query the server for the verion and prevent loading from cach when a module needs to be updated
but I was hoping for something easy like the AIR auto update feature

  • Best practices for Refreshing Unv Structure for SAP based universes

This may sound basic and I apologize for asking this, but the refresh structure in SAP based universes is somewhat different from noraml universes.
Here is what i'd like to do:
    - Hide all the L00 objects.
    - Rename all the L01 objects and move them to a new Class.
    - Change some of the detail (attribute) objects to dimension objects.
    - Hide the format and Unit for key figures.
    - Hide all of the classes/subclasses  that get automatically generated when a SAP based universe is created.
I have noticed that when I do the above and refresh the universe, it assumes that all these objects have gone missing from the original classes and adds them back to the universe.
I also want to make sure that if the select of an object gets updated and the object is re-named, then it should automatically pick up the change.
Lastly, I have some reports which were built prior to this renaming. I want to make sure that the reports do not break.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    This thread is really old.
Yes it was a common problem back in the earlier XI 3.x days . a lot of bugs in this area were eliminated by the time of XI 3.1 SP03 FP3.x   -  you don't quote your version.
Actually, you need to be aware that a refresh structure is often not needed, and can corrupt the olap universe . Pls check out Note 1278216 - What are the best practices for OLAP Universe Change Management when using SAP Integration Kit?
    in essence :
Only use 'Refresh Structure' functionality If:
    - A new Object (Dimension/Characteristic) has been added to the BEx query (Rows/Columns/Free Characteristics)
    - A new Variable Restriction has been added to the Bex query Filters
Do not use 'Refresh Structure' functionality after:
    - Having modified a STRUCTURE in BEx. i.e. 'Detail view of Formula' or 'Details of Selection', or changing the General Description of structure members.
    - Doing manual actions on objects/classes in the OLAP Universe like:  Move ; Cut/Paste ; Drag/Drop ; Hide ; Delete.
(because these workflow can lead to corruption)

Which is a best practice for accomplish our goal?
Many thanks in advance. Best regards,
      Imanol

    Hi Simon and Amir
My name is Connie and I work at Accenture GRC practice (and a colleague of Imanolu2019s). I have been reading this thread and I would like to ask you a question that is related to this topic. We have a case where a Global Rule Set u201CLogic Systemu201D and we may also require to create a Specific Rule Set. Is there a document (from SAP or from best practices) that indicate the potential impact (regarding risk analysis, system performance, process execution time, etc) caused by implementing both type of rule sets in a production environment? Are there any special considerations to be aware? Have you ever implemented this type of scenario?
I would really appreciate your help and if you could point me to specific documentation could be of great assistance. Thanks in advance and best regards,

  • Best Practice for Expired updates cleanup in SCCM 2012 SP1 R2

    Hello,
I am looking for assistance in finding a best practice method for dealing with expired updates in SCCM SP1 R2. I have read a blog post: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/04/12/software-update-content-cleanup-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager.aspx
I have been led to believe there may be a better method, or a more up to date best practice process in dealing with expired updates.
On one side I was hoping to keep a software update group intact, to have a history of what was deployed, but also wanting to keep things clean and avoid issues down the road as i used to in 2007 with expired updates.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sean

The best idea is still to remove expired updates from software update groups. The process describes in that post is still how it works. That also means that if you don't remove the expired updates from your software update groups the expired updates will
    still show...
To automatically remove the expired updates from a software update group, have a look at this script:

  • Best Practice for CQ Updates in complex installations (clustering, replication)?

    Hi everybody,
we are planning a production setup of CQ 5.5 with an authoring cluster replicating to 4 publisher instances. We were wondering what the best update process looks like in a scenario like this. Let's say, we need to install the latest CQ 5 Update - which we actually have to -:
Do we need to do this on every single instance, or can replication be utilized to distribute updates?
If updating a cluster - same question: one instance at a time? Just one, and the cluster does the rest?
The question is really: can update packages (official or custom) be automatically distributed to multiple instances? If yes, is there a "best practice" way to do this?
Thanks for any help on this!
    Henning

    Hi Henning,
The CQ5.5 servicepacks are distributed as CRX packages. You can replicate these packages and on the publishs they are unpacked and installed.
In a cluster the situation is different: You have only 1 repository. So when you have installed the servicepack on one node, the new versions of bundles and other stuff is unpacked to the repository (most likely to /libs). Then the magic (essentially the JcrInstaller) takes care, that the bundles are extracted to started.
I would not recommend to activate the service pack in a production environment, because then all publishs will be updated the same time. And as a restart is required, you might encounter downtimes. Of course you can make it work when you play with the replication agents :-)
    cheers,
    Jörg

I couldnt find any best practices available in help.sap.com
    Please advise..

    Dear Goud
    Thank you.
But here the requirement is a resource can be billed based on time sheets. So to create a value contract & based on contract create  a sales order may not satisfy the process.
But my concern is a person is billled based on times sheets, how the cost of the person fetched in the sales order?

  • Best practices for package directory structure?

I've only compiled a few java programs & while I find the language itself very easy to adapt to from C++ and Javascript, I get confused about the directory structure and classpaths & such.
My main method of operation is to build small tools and test projects, and I would like to follow good practices for organizing my directory structure, so it will (a) work well with java, and (b) work well with my source control software.
    Let's say I am developing packages named "com.example.test.test1", "com.example.test.test2", "com.example.tools.flapper", and "com.example.tools.spinner".
I know I can use this structure:
    /java/test/test1/com/example/test/test1/* (files for com.example.test.test1 including test1.java)
    /java/test/test2/com/example/test/test2/* (files for com.example.test.test2 including test2.java)
    /java/tools/flapper/com/example/tools/flapper/* (files for com.example.tools.flapper including flapper.java)
    /java/tools/spinner/com/example/tools/spinner/* (files for com.example.tools.spinner including spinner.java)
But the directories seem unnecessarily deep & lead to a hassle in source control that makes it difficult to browse.
Can I use this? and if so, how do I run "javac" and "jar" properly to compile/jar-ify each package?
    /java/com/example/test/test1/* (files for com.example.test.test1)
    /java/com/example/test/test2/* (files for com.example.test.test2)
    /java/com/example/tools/flapper/* (files for com.example.tools.flapper)
    /java/com/example/tools/spinner/* (files for com.example.tools.spinner)
also is it recommended to leave the .class files in the same dirs as the .java files, or better to have a separate tree for compiled .class files?

hmm, there's a lot to absorb here...
I found these articles online that seem good:
    http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2003/12/17/ant_bestpractices.html
    http://www.kevinboone.com/classpath.html
I'd like to use ant if possible & understand it; I've had troubles with IDEs in the past and would like to just stick with basic build mechanisms.
I guess as a practical example let's say I have two different applications that use the serial port, that I want to release separately, each in separate .jar files. One is called com.example.applications.serial1 and the other is com.example.applications.serial2. They both use rxtx.org's gnu.io.* libraries. Serial1 uses some packages that I have developed: com.example.tools.spinner and com.example.tools.flapper, whereas Serial2 uses com.example.tools.spinner and com.example.tools.flopper
I think I want to organize things this way: (everything below under /java/src/)
    com
    example
    applications
    serial1
    serial1.java
    serial2
    serial2.java
    tools
    spinner
    spinner.java
    flapper
    flapper.java
    flopper
    flopper.java
and I think I want to compile to /java/classes/:
    com
    example
    applications
    serial1
    serial1.class
    serial2
    serial2.class
    tools
    spinner
    spinner.class
    flapper
    flapper.class
    flopper
    flopper.class
but I'm sort of lost on where to put the ant buildfiles, which directories to be in to run javac, and how to get the jar files right. From what I've searched for online, the external libraries (RXTX's jar files & .dlls for windows) are "interesting", and the easiest thing is to tell users of my .jar files to put the rxtx libs in the same library as the .jar files so I can set the Class-Path: in the .jar manifest to point to them.

  • Best Forum for Software Update Installation Installation

What is the (better or best) forum for discussing problems involving the failure to install Microsoft updates (for IE 11, .NET Framework 3.5.1, and Windows 7)? (Not sure why I am getting security updates for .NET Framework 3.5.1 when I have 4.5.1 installed

I'd probably ask them over here.

  • Best Practices for Batch Updates, Inserts and Complex Queries

The approach we have taken for our ALDSP Architecture is to model or DASi as Business Data Objects, each DS joining several (some times many) tables and lookups. This works ok when needing to access individual records for read and update, but when we need to update multiple tables and rows within the same commit, trying to do this with a logical single ds built on tables or other dASi, proves both cumbersome and slow. This is also the case for queries, when we have complex where clauses within a DS built upon two or more multi-table-joined logical DASi.
We tried a DS built on SQL, but that does not allow dml operations. We may have to just use JDBC. Any thoughts on how best to leverage DAS in this respect.

I tried doing this by creating a UO class and using it on a DS built on a sql statement. What we wanted to do here is first read the DS to get a list of ID values that met the conditions of the query and then call submit() and have the UO update all the necessary tables associated with those IDS.
However, we found that U/O never get's called unless you actually update something, not just send submit() after a read. Dis I misunderstand the way this shoudl work?

  • SAP Best Practice for Plant Organizational Structure

    Hi
Can one please suggest us . how we can design the Plant Structure ( Please refer OSS notes if you have ).
    1) Design of a Plant / Storage location if it is located in  different state. We have one manufacturing plant , and six storage ware house in different region within states and two outside states. They will just receive , Issue and do Physical Inventory .
QN : Do we consider (Storage location )this as Plant or Storage Location ?
Can one  one support with valid document from SAP Please
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you are storing the material in 8 storage locations only, no tax related, material price do not change according to storage locations, material valuation only in one plant (manufacturing),In This case you can use two plant. One Plant (P1, Logical Plant) and one Storage location(in ur manufacturing plant) and another plant(P2, Statistical Plant) having your having your 8 storage locations, So that you can get inventory report plant wise, storage location wise with time period.
    Check following OSS notes:

  • Best Practice for Retiring Superseded or Expired Updates

If you want to clear out superseded or expired updates, do you delete them from your update package, the deployment package, or both? Or is there another best practice for this?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Hi Torsten, im reading this article because im actualy planing to solve some kind of the the same problem.
I create Software Update Groups with monthly patches, and then i will deploy this to certain Client Collections.
If there becomes a single Patch, the Status, "expired", out of the Software Update Group, what would be the effect for the whole Software Update Group wich still have an active deployment?
    Thanks for your sugestion.

  • Best practices for updating agents

We're getting ready to do our first system-wide update of agents to fix a critical bug. Our summer vacation is just ending, and teachers and students will be coming back very soon and turning on our Windows 7 computers for the first time in many weeks, although they won't all be turned on the same day. When they are turned on they will be attempting to get various updates, in particular Windows updates, but also Flash Player and Adobe Reader. I need to update the agents as quickly as possible, but I'm concerned about the possibility of the agent update conflicting with another update, especially Windows updates. Isn't it possible that Windows Update could restart a computer while the agent update is happening (or the other way around), leaving the machine in an unstable or unusable state? What are the best practices for dealing with this? I considered the possibility of deploying the agent to a dynamic workstation group whose members all have a certain file or files that indicate that they have already received the latest Windows updates. However, I can't see how to create a dynamic group based on such criteria.
So far I have only updated a few devices at a time using "Deploy System Updates to Selected Devices in the Management Zone". When those updates are done I cancel that deployment because that's the only option I can find that does anything. If you can offer general advice for a better strategy of updating agents I'd appreciate that. Specifically, how would you push an agent update to several hundred computers that will be turned on sometime over the next two weeks?
    Thanks very much.

To be honest, you have to work around your other deploys, etc. The ZCM agent isn't "aware" of other deploys going on. For example, ZPM doesn't care that you're doing Bundles at the same time (you'll get errors in the logs about the fact that only one MSI can run at a time, for example). ZPM usually recovers and picks up where it left off.
Bundles on the other hand, with System Update, are not so forgiving. Especially if you have the agents prior to 11.2.4 MU1 (cache corruption errors).
    We usually:
    a) Halt all software rollouts/patching as best we can
    b) Our software deploys (bundles) are on event: user login Typically the system update is on Device Refresh, OR scheduled time, and are device associated.
IF possible, I'd suggest that you use WOL, system update and voila.
Or, if no WOL available, then tell your users to leave their pc turned on (doesn't have to be logged in), on X night, and setup your system updates for that night, with the auto-reboot enabled. That worked well
But otherwise the 3 components of ZCM (Bundles, ZPM, System Update) don't know/care about each other, AFAIK.
