  • Best Practiced SAP Netweaver Portal

    Hi All,
We are trying to determine what should be the breaking point between what the portal dev team handles and what becomes SAP Securities responsibility. We are thinking that security should take it over when assigning IViews to Roles and then Roles to Groups and lastly groups to users. This is a very high view and welcome as much detailed information as you can provide.
    Thanks,
    Mary Sims

    Hi Mary,
I fully agree with John. Portal roles are used to build up navigation. Therefor they define, what a user would see (if he/she would have read permission).
The mapping between user groups and portal roles, the assignment of users to roles and the setting of read permissions on certain iViews (pages) or folders in KM is a different thing. This is a security issue and should be done by security department.
We face this responsibility discussion in all our portal projects. You just have to rethink the word 'role', which normally isn't used for structuring content. This helps clearing up things. But at the end of the day, its an organizational discussion which depends on your internal organization.
At least, I made the experience, that it's best if you assign portal roles to portal groups but use the groups for setting the access control list - not the roles.
    Maybe another cent,
    Carsten

  • Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal

    Hi,
We are implementing EP for ECC 5.0 and we have to web enable some FI transactions like FB50/fb60 etc. We want to use standard business package for this. The only business package that caters this requirement is "Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal 60.1". When i checked the data source for this business package, the specification is for "SAP R/3 4.6B and above". Does this work for ECC 5.0 as well? In general does the R/3 specific business packages work for ECC versions? Please let me know. Thanks for the help.  I promise rewards.
    Regards
    Hari

    Hari,
When you download the BPO via Portal Content Portfolio,
each bpo has additional information on the release.
    For example for the one you are inquiring about - Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal, the additional release information is provided on the following links;

  • Best practice for moving portal solution using content db from UAT to PROD

    Hi,
Would like to know can we backup the database from UAT env. and restore the  same to  PROD. if all of my functionality is working fine in UAT env.
I have event receivers[web level features], site collection level features, custom web parts, custom permissions, saved site templates, custom discussion forums etc.
Assuming that I have my custom solution deployed on the Prod. which will activate features for those web parts and my custom application page features.
Is there any issues I can anticipate in PROD.env, if i perform this activity.
    or
Is this approach not recommended by Microsoft ? if yes , whats the best approach for deploying portal solution in PROD?
Should I create teh web application, site collections, everything in PROD.from scratch.
any links regarding this approach and the bext practices / helpful info is appreciated.

    Thanks Trveor for the reply.
so, I can go ahead and  create the web applns, site collections and  deploy my web parts, item event receivers, appln pages and my timer jobs in UAT and take the  backup of the same and restore it in PROD env.
But, i ahve a doubt here , as I have few site pages created it in my site template and when i take the backupof this web apppln's content db --- [ i think i can take the backup of web appln content db through power shell] ----
will the site pages also be part of this backup?
I had some experience in prev.version of SP, wherein i have few site pages and saved site template I have taken the backup of the  web appln and  restore it in another farm and  associate the restored content db to the
newly created web appln in the targeted farm.
But when I navigated to thsoe restored site pages, it gave me "resource not found /file not found " error.
I had  deployed the custom web parts as a custom wsp and added into those site pages.
and it failed to load those web parts UI.
I was not sute whether this happened because of backup or restore from source  spfarm to the  targeted sp farm .

  • Best practice for weblogic portal

While creating a portal application , what is the best approach, use jsp or jsr-168 portlets and minimum proprietary tags from weblogic or should use all those custom controls and stuff from weblogic

    Hi,
There is no such best practices given by the Bea Systems. But if you are creating a weblogic portal application and you want to have portlet rendered on the portal, the pageFlow portlet is the best way to render your web application on the portal. There are advantanges of the pageFlow:
(1)Easy in development of web application
    (2)Graphical view of your navigation
(3)J2EE Resources can be accessed easily with use of controls.
(4)Can use Behive Netui tags which is having lots of tags which can be used without writing complex logic.
(5)Complex j2ee logic can be written in the form of Annotation which can help the developer to write complex j2ee coding
    Thx

  • Best practice SAP landscape

    Hello all,
I would like to know if there is some kind of best practice regarding SAP landscape in a big company.
For example is it recommended to have in the landscape a SAP Quality Assurance System open for customizing (transaction SCC4) so that quick customizing tests are performed at any moment, instead of customizing in Development system and then transports in QaS. (this can be very frustrating because for solving and testing an issue it's possible that numerous customizing tasks and reset of customzing is neccessary) ?
How SAP compliant would this solution be?
Thank you very much for your help!
    Daniel Nicula

Hmmm, I do not know exactly if the question can be posed here in GRC related threads.
But it seemed to me that it is somehow connected.
Anyway, I agree with you that final customizing should be done in DEV and then transported in QAS.
What i am not sure is if it is against SAP recommendations to have a QAS opened for customizing and try all the solutions for an issue. And in the end when you are sure of what you want to do and to obtain, then you do the customizing also in DEV and follow the normal transport route.
Which can be the risks in case you have a QAS opened for customizing?
    Thank you.

  • Best Practice SAP connection

    Hello All
I am just starting creating reports with CR2008 connected to SAP ECC 6.0.  I am suffering some performance issues when trying to create a report on tables VBAK, VBAP and LIPS. Report performance is extremely slow. I have a few questions on this:
    1. Can anyone point me to some documentation that would help me set up SAP and CR2008 for improved performance when reporting directly on tables.
    2. Performance wise Is it better to report on an Classic Infoset rather than directly on a table in CR2008
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Best Practice - HCM service

    Hi,
The ESS latest package was uploaded initially into the portal. This package consists of mostly the Webdynpro iviews.
Later it was decided to use the Best practice, so it is uploaded. Now all the services provided in the Best practice is available in one common folder, except for the ESS. The iviews available in this Best practice are mostly the transaction iviews.
My query is that, why the HCM (ESS) services are not there under the best practice folder? Is it due to the already uploaded ESS package? What should i do to avail the HCM services of the best practice?
It's urgent. plz help. All useful answers will be rewarded.

Thanks Bharathwaj for the reply. Here is the link.

  • Best Practice for Portal Patches and effort estimation

    Hi ,
One of our client is applying the following patches
    1. ECC 6.0 SP15(currently SP14)
    2. ESS MSS SP15(currently SP14 with some level of functional customization )
    3. EP 7 SP18(currently SP14)
We would like to kwow the best practice for applying portal patches and the effort estimation for redoing the portal devt on the new patch.
o   What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
o   How are all the changes to SAP objects handle?  Do they have to be
         manually re-entered?
o  What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
    Regards,
    Revathi Raju.

    Hi Revathi,
o What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
overall effort to apply the patch is apprx 1/2-1 days for NW7 system. This is exclude the patch files download because it's based on your download speed.
o How are all the changes to SAP objects handle? Do they have to be
    manually re-entered?
Depending on your customization. Normally it wont effect if you created the customzation application apart from SAP standard application
o What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
Any change that related to NWDI, you might be need to re-deployed from NWDI itself.
    Thanks

  • Seaching for Best Practice links that work

    Hi,
past few years I have been able to access SAP Best Practices documents like SAP Best Practices SAP Best Practices for CP and Wholesale Industries
(this one still works and guides me to the building block and process overview documents!).
Recently any link I can find to SAP Industry or Baseline Best Practices ends up with a dead link. See for example trying to get from here SAP Best Practices Baseline packages – SAP Help Portal Page
to Localized for Netherlands V1.607 SAP Best Practices package further below on that page, results in screen shot attached. I have seen that in many more examples (different countries, or in Industry Best Practice Packages instead of Country Baseline packages....)
Does any know whether and how SAP redesigned their access to Best Practices documents (Configuration Guides, eCatts, Scenario Process Overviews etc.?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Thijs

    Hi, Thijs,
There is currently a problem with Best Practices on the Help Portal.  On the home page of the portal (http://help.sap.com/) there is a message that reads "Stay Tuned - There are temporary problems when accessing some content types, for example PDF documents or Best Practices. We are working on a solution."
Our Wholesale Distribution industry group does not manage the Help Portal pages, so, unfortunately, I don't know the status of the problem or when it might be resolved.

  • Diff Between Best Practices  &  Business Packages

    Dear Master
Can u give a brief difference between
                           Best Practices  &  Business Packages?
    thankx

    Hi,
Best Practices : SAP Best Practices provide a toolset that helps IT and functional project team members to quickly deploy functionality in SAP solutions - from SAP NetWeaver, to core SAP applications. This toolset comprises a mix of step-by-step instructions, preconfiguration, sample master data, code samples (where applicable) and end-user training - organized by technical or business scenarios that you might want to implement in your landscape.
    http://help.sap.com/content/bestpractices/crossindustry/bestp_based_netweaver.htm
Business Packages : The SAP NetWeaver Portal offers a state-of-the-art portal solution. However, to make a portal useful to all the people it seeks to serve, it must not only provide general portal capabilities, but also content designed specifically to serve users in various industries and business areas.
SAP provides such pre-assembled content bundled as business packages for completing business tasks. In essence, the business packages provide out-of-the-box portal applications that can be easily modified to suit a customer's needs.

  • Is it Risky to Customize DeskTop InnerPage???? Best Practices pls!!

    Hi Friends,
I would like to know, Is it advicable to modify the Desktop inner page??? I mean by modify/customize in the sense of changing the layout.
Is there any best practice on customization of desktop inner page?
If we want to customize/modify the desktop innerpage, It would be enough to work on a Copy - Delta Linked desktop innerpage rt? OR do i need to take the non-delta link desktop innerpage to work on it?
Please advice me with any best practices on the customization/modification of Desktop Inner Page.
Thanks in advance for your time!!!
    - Raghavendra Pothula

    Hi Raghvendra,
There is no harm in modifying the desktop inner page.
We have customized the desktop inner page according to our needs with a new layout. Make sure you make a copy of the original and not a "delta link". In the copied desktop make the changes that you want e.g. customized layout, change in detailed nav etc etc and then assign this desktop to the framework page.
There is a best practice guide for portal branding but this deos not talk about desktop inner pages.

  • Best Practices for standardizing long text for EP GUI version

Hello, I have a question that is related to standardizing best practices for all portal applications that use EP
    1) The portal team has recommended activating the GUI version from portal to allow the long text to have the same features as the standard GUI.  Since this solution is per transaction, we will need to identify what transactions need to have this temporary solution built in.  Also, business users will need to remember which transactions they will access via portal or GUI.
    (2) Even though the long text function is activated via GUI per transaction, the system will prompt a message of u201CRuntime Error!  Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXEu201D.  This may create frustrations to the users each time they maintain the long text.  The risk of this may be losing the use of long text throughout the maintenance orders, production orders, notifications, material masters, equipment masters, maintenance task lists, production routings, etc.
    All feedback welcomed
    Thanks Mark

I found the solution, make everything in Illustrator (well text anyway) at a big size then bring it ibto Photoshop in a dicument 1024 x 576 (so no widescreen pixel ratio) then when saving document bring size of Image to 720 x 576 then you get great anti aliased pictures.
    Solved.

  • Goods return best practice

    Hi,
Kindly help me out in following senario
I raise a purchase order for 100 qty of goods at $2. I do a MIGO and receive all the quantity in to my Inspection stock (QM is activated). 80 items are OK and 20 not. So 80 of them are transfer posted to unrestricted stock and rejected 20 is transfer posted to restricted stock.
My question is what is the best practice SAP business process I need to follow in order to
    1) return the rejected 20 back to the vendor and then
    2) replace them with another 20 items from the same vendor?
    3) what reports can I run to see the goods return information in SAP?

    To answer the question :
    1) return the rejected 20 back to the vendor and then
You can go to MIGO transaction, and choose "return delivery", and state the amount of money that will be returned
    2) replace them with another 20 items from the same vendor?
Basically you can do several good receipts to a purchase order. So after you return delivery do a good receipt with reference to the same PO number
    3) what reports can I run to see the goods return information in SAP?
What kind of reports do you want? if you want to see the material for each material document number, report using MB51 would be the best option. Either way, you can create a custom report for more specific kind of report
    Hope it helps
