Best procedure to avoid phishing

Accessing certain sites like banks and others vulnerable to phishing, which are the best and correct steps to take to avoid it ? Just clearing cache is enough ?
I noticed that the famous lock showing a secure site is not shown in my Safari pages ? How to do that ?
Thanks

HI,
The "lock" icon to right in the Safari window will only appear when you visit sites that are secure and only AFTER you login. You will see something similar to this:
Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G2 VeriSign Class 3 Secure Server Ca - G2
*You can view the details of a secure site by right or control clicking the lock icon.*
For information regarding phishing on Snow Leopard: Mac OS X Has you Covered
I empty the browser cache after I visit a secure site... mostly out of habit but it won't hurt.

  • What is the best procedure to update from Leopard (or Snow Leopard) to Mavericks?

    The pacient:
    Macbook Pro A1278
Running 10.5.8 -- but have an Update DVD to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    Got slower in start-up
Very slow in power-off (takes lot of time on shut-down!)
What is the BEST procedure to update it from Leopard to Mavericks?
    A) update & clean
Backup to Time Machine (in Leopard)
Update from 10.5.8 to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    Update 10.6 to 10.6.8
    Donwnload and Update to Maverics
Do any kind of clean to increase speed in start-up / shut-down - Any suggestions?
    or
    B) fresh install & update & recover Time Machine
    Backup to Time Machine
    Reinstall a fresh 10.5.8 (Leopard) - should increase speed in start-up / shut-down ??
Update from 10.5.8 to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    Update 10.6 to 10.6.8
    Donwnload and Update to Maverics
Recover users data & config from Time Machine
I am thrilled to heard your advices!!
PS. Aditional suggestions to make a faster boot / power-down , before or after updating are very welcome ;!)

Go to  Menu > About this Mac > and tell us Version, Processor & Memory specs on your Mac. Also available hard disk space, by choosing your Macintosh HD and "Get Info" (cmd-i)
If you're having issues now with slow sratup and shutdown, it's probably a third party item. If it is, then it may limited to your user account. If that's the case and you do a clean install, then migrate you will wind up migrating it right back.
The first thing to check would be to boot into your Guest account and test, or try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items.
Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours. Then log out and back in or restart and test.
If the problem is sorted, be sure to make a new backup before proceeding. Since the problem is sorted and you have a backup without the offending items, then there's no reason not to use the simple upgrade method you outlined in A. With the exception of "cleaning". The only cleaning your Mac should need is with a soft cloth. Stay away from so-called cleaning/optomizing utilities.

  • Best Procedure to Validate data in Xlsx

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where we have to build an ETL  to load xlsx files into my SQL Database. Before loading to my target table i would need to validate the data.
I have Two Procedures to validate the data
    1) Import every thing into SQL, validate it  load to Target Table
    2) Validate the xlsx in ssis using the data conversion task, conditional split task etc.
My Question is which is the best procedure to validate.
I have 15 columns (Mostly numeric, date, money) and two validation scenarios check for null? check the length?
    Thanks in Advance.
    kuk

I would prefer doing this in SQL unless there are any complicated steps like RegexMatch which may be much better dealt with using SCript Task in SSIS by using .NET functions.

  • Best procedure to downgrade a SQL Server 2012 SP2 installation from Enterprise edition to Standard edition

    Hi,
following a purpose change for a database server, I need to downgrade the SQL Server 2012 SP 2 installation from Enterprise to Standard edition.
Does it exist the best procedure to do it in a secure manner with a low impact?
    Many thanks

Please note that while you are downgrading by uninstalling and reinstalling and then restoring backup  taken from 2012 enterprise to standard , if backup contains data about used enterprise features you would not be able to restore the backup so BE
    CAREFUL.
You should , if possible, get a new box install SQL Server standard and try restoring backup if it fails disable enterprise features and again take backup and then you would be able to restore.

  • Best procedure to delete all data in my iMac etc

Selling or trading in an iMac which is best procedure to completely erase all data ?
Also procedure to transfer data from external disk with saved data from entire system using TM ?
Thanks so much Happy New Year

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
    1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
    2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
    4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
    6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either. The buyer will have to purchase them.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • Best way to avoid an interface?

so far i have been able to record my keyboard via midi, my synth through a guitar cable with an attachment at the end that plugs it into the line in (not sure what its called) and same goes for guitar
so what i am wondering if there is a simple cheap way to get a mic plugged in without buying an interface
and if so is there any big quality differences without an interface
i have noticed that some of the garage band effects on my guitar produce some static and i am not sure if its the settings or what
    thanks : )
also if i would be able to plug in a mixer without an interface
so basically what i am asking is
    a. how to plug a mic and mixer into my mac and into garage band without an interface and
    b. is there a quality difference (especially with guitar)

    don1212 wrote:
ok sweet so the mixer will fix clipping
my band is investing in some drum mics and a new vocal mic too so the mixer will be really helpful
as for the guitar effects in garage band do they sounds pretty professional when they arent clipping?
i would really like to use them but i wanna mek sure they sounds quality when recorded
As long as you are contemplating a mixer, you might as well contemplate an interface. So the best answer to your question: The best way to avoid an interface? Is: Don't! You are using your computer to record audio from a variety of sources - guitar, mic, whatever... why get a second rate solution when a first rate solution exists? If budget is an issue, there are cheap interfaces just like there are cheap mixers. They're cheap enough so you could probably afford both if you needed a mixer and an interface, or some interfaces include the functions of both an interface and a mixer so you'd only need one.
I have a feeling that some of your "clipping" issues would go away with a proper interface that is designed to shuttle sound from the outside world into your computer just the way you want.
You might want to check out a major music retailer like www.sweetwater.com which has a very thorough selection of gear on their website. They are also very helpful if you call them, although don't let them sell you anything you don't want!
Oh, and the guitar effects in GB sound surprisingly good!

Uninstall is usually easy on Windows PC machines but there does not seem to be an uninstall utility on a Mac.  Can someone tell me the best procedure for uninstalling LR3 on a Mac?

In order to uninstall the Lightroom from the MAC just remove the Lightroom3.app file from the applications folder.
Once you delete the file its gone and you can reinstall the newer LR 4 or reinstall LR 3 back.

    Thanks.

Hi, when you ask 10 people about the best method to flash BIOS, you will probably get 10 different answers
    Some observations:
    1. Flashing under Windows has become "normal procedure" for boards of most other manufacturers; (I will not use this method for my MSI boards, though, because of the negative opinion on it in this forum. If the comments are correct, then the only conclusion can be that MSI software engineers are at present not able to deliver a Window-based flashing program with which MSI-BIOSes can be flashed into MSI boards in a safe way. I'd rather not find out the exact reason for this  . I have used Windows-based flashing programs numerous times with boards from other manufacturers - Abit, Asus, Soltek, ECS, etc. without any problem).
    2. If the procedure as described by Syar really has significant advantages over "plain flashing", then it means that either the BIOSes are flaky, or the boards are instable. Such precautions have never been necessary and should not be necessary! I can only recommend - just to be on the safe side - that, while flashing, you dance around the computer, carrying two carrots, an onion and chanting "Flash! Flash! Flash!
    3. There is something to say for not flashing from a floppy. Floppies are the oldest part of nowadays computers and the medium is probably the least failsafe part ... Therefore I have reserved a small (100 MB) FAT32 partition on a HDD, BIOS files and most recent flashing program will be copied to that partition. I will start the PC with a W98SE bootflop, go to that partition and flash from there. I have used this method a great number of times over the years, I will never add any switch when running the program.
    Additional Info
    Regards
    Hans
    Hi hansh,
thanks for that. I'll boot with a Win98 bootCD (NTFS support included) and thinking about flashing with an Iomega USB pen drive (FAT32). Any comments here?
And, blazing storm, thanks again for your valuable reply.

  • Best practice to avoid Firefox cache collision

    Hi everybody.
Reading through this page of Google Developers
    https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/best-practices/caching#LeverageBrowserCaching
I found this line that I can't figure out the exact meaning:
"avoid the Firefox hash collision issue by ensuring that your application generates URLs that differ on more than 8-character boundaries".
Can you please explain this with practical examples ?
For example, are this two strings different enough?
    "hello123hello"
    "hello456hello"
    or these
    "1aaaaaa1"
    "2aaaaaa2"
Also, what version of firefox does have this problem?
    Thank you

Personally, I would work out the application design before you consider performance settings. There are so many variables involved that to try to do it upfront is going to be difficult.
That being said each developer has their own preferred approach and some will automatically add certain expressions into the Essbase.cfg file, set certain application level settings via EAS (Index Cache, Data Cache, Data File Cache).
There are many posts discussing these topics in this forum so suggest you do a search and gather some opinions.

  • Importing my iPhoto library into Aperture.  Best way to avoid duplicates?

    Hi,
I'm a new Mac user.  I have been in the very slow and tedious process of transferring my photos from my HP hard drive to my Mac.  I used iPhoto for a very brief time before purchasing Aperture 3.  (I've used photoshop for years.)  I haven't yet Imported or consolidated or whatever the correct term would be the iPhoto library into the Aperture library.  I've been avoiding it because I know there are some duplicates.  Mainly just a few "Events" from the last few weeks before starting using Aperture.  Now with the new update, it seems like it's a great time to get it all consolidated into an Aperture library that I can use in both iPhoto and Aperture.  What's the easiest way for me to proceed?  I'm sorry for my lack of proper Mac terms....I'm learning!
Thanks so much for your help!
    Christy

    Clear as mud??
If you want to see all your images - those now in your Aperture Library and those in your iPhoto Library- then you need to merge both Libraries into one Library - I'd import your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library.
This combined Library will be compatible with both Applications.
To merge your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library do the following:
Make a backup of your current iPhoto library (libraries)
Upgrade to iPhoto 9.3, if you have not already done so.
Open your iPhoto Library at least once in Photo 9.3 to upgrade the Library.
Unhide all hidden images. You cannot unhide them when viewing the Library in Aperture.
    Quit iPhoto.
If you have not already upgraded to Aperture 3.3, do it like this:
    Backup your current Aperture library.
Rebuild the Aperture Database using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools: Launch Aperture with the cmd-options-key combination (⌘⌥) firmly held down, then select  "Rebuild Database".
After rebuilding upgrade to Aperture 3.3 and launch Aperture to upgrade the Aperture Library.
With Aperture still open, double click your iPhoto Library. Aperture will prompt you, if you want to add or merge your iPhoto Library - choose "Merge". This will avoid importing duplicate images, as far as Aperture can tell that those are the same images - same filename.
You will have to weed out some duplicates yourself - this is best be done by sorting the images by capture date, then duplicate shots will appear side by side.
Post back, if you have more questions.
    Regards

  • HTTP Web Response and Request Best Practices to Avoid Common Errors

I am currently investigating an issue with our web authentication server not working for a small subset of users. My investigating led to attempting to figure out the best practices for web responses.
The code below allows me to get a HTTP status code for a website.
    string statusCode;
    CookieContainer cookieContainer = new CookieContainer();
    HttpWebRequest myHttpWebRequest = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(url);
    // Allow auto-redirect
    myHttpWebRequest.AllowAutoRedirect = true;
// make sure you have a cookie container setup.
// Probably not saving cookies and getting caught
    // in a redirect loop.
    myHttpWebRequest.CookieContainer = cookieContainer;
    WebResponse webResponse = myHttpWebRequest.GetResponse();
    statusCode = "Status Code: " + (int)((HttpWebResponse)webResponse).StatusCode + ", " + ((HttpWebResponse)webResponse).StatusDescription;
Through out my investigation, I encountered some error status codes, for example, the "Too
many automatic redirections were attempted" error. I fixed this by having a Cookie Container, as you can see above.
My question is - what are the best practices for requesting and responding to HTTP requests?
I know my hypothesis that I'm missing crucial web request methods (such as implementing a cookie container) is correct, because that
    fixed the redirect error.
I suspect my customers are having the same issue as a result of using our software to authenticate with our server/URL. I would like to avoid as many web request issues as much as possible.
    Thank you.

  • Plz tell me best procedure to administor Sun Java sys Messaging server

    Hi there,
I am working on Sun java sys messaging server( am new stuff) .Can you tell me the best approach from your expirience how to manage (Administor Sun java messeging server which uses LDAP directory server).please if possible daily check procedures including commands.
    hope hear you soon,
    best regards
    [email protected]

There's very little daily stuff to do. You will need to monitor disk usage, to make sure nothing runs out of space. Areas that grow include the mail store itself, the mboxlist directory (check for number of transaction logs, files with the name starting with "log"), and the log directory. Most of the log files "rotate", and so won't grow, except the "mail.log" file.
Every day, we take the "mail.log_yesterday", and add it to the "mail.log". We then take the "mail.log_current", and move it to replace the "mail.log_yesterday". And start a new "mail.log_current". We never purge the "mail.log". It's up to you to handle that, occasionally.
Other than checking for disk space, Messaging Server pretty much just runs.

  • 'Best practice' for avoiding duplicate inserts?

Just wondering if there's a 'best practice' approach for
handling potential duplicate database inserts in CF. At the moment,
I query the db first to work out if what I'm about to insert
already exists. I figure I could also just send the SQL and catch
the error, which would then tell me the data's already in there,
but that seemed a bit dodgy to me. Which is the 'proper' way to
    handle this kind of thing?

i wouldn't consider letting the db handle this as "dodgy". if
    you're seeing the
majority of inserts as "ok" then you're saving at least 1 db
    interaction per
insert which can add up in high transaction environments.
