Best QT export format for streaming video

I have a video clip placed in an iWeb web page which will be viewed (of course) by Windows users.
What's the best format to export and allow the widest compatibility with Windows browsers? I have a laptop running XP (SP 2), have just downloaded and installed the latest available QT for Windows software, and when trying to play the movie I get an alert advising "a component is needed which is not available on the server."
At present the video clip seems to download, and I get a control bar which will play the sound, but no video.
Suggestions?
I have QT Pro.
Ken

Guys,
Thanks for this info. Can I make sure I read right and ask a couple more questions re sharing movies on the web:
1) Exporting
Export: Movie to Quicktime Movie
Use: Streaming-Medium (even if there is no 'streaming'
Options>Video>Settings>Compression Type MPEG-4 .. and leave the other items as is?
Sound: Now I have to ask something here. When I use the defauly AAC it sound like it's being recorded underwater. I have been using Qualcomm Purevoice for no other reason than it suggests that speech comes out better! And it seems to. Please advise. Other settings leave as is?
Prepare for Internet streaming: Select Fast Start-Compressed Header
- interestingly, the big 'Q' often just sits there when you click on the movie so I don't know when and how this setting actually works.
2) Extracting Sound from a QT movie
I am going to take the sound of one movie and apply it to another, using, presumeably, Export: AIFF ... what settings should I use? In this case I want it to be high quality for use in a DVD. The default setting appeared to come up as mono
3) Is there a utility to concatenate QT movies? I found one once on Version Tracker, but it always seemed to fall over.
4) Concatenating QT files. We all know that if you do a copy-paste concatenation, then delete a component file, it screws up (can't find file). Yet, if you merely change the length of one of the component files, it isn't reflected in the concatenated file ... also, if you cut a piece out of a QT movie and then merely save it (cmd-S) it does not reduce the overall size of the file by that amount unless you save as self-contained to another name... how the dickens do you work most efficiently with them? Are there all these rogue pieces of unreferenced, excess movie clips now littering my hard drive?
Really appreciate your help.

  • What is the best final export Format?

    Hello everybody,
I just my first short movie using Red Camera. And I made my editing and color correction using Adobe premiere & After effect.
But, as I am a beginner in editing, I need your help about the exporting format that I can choose to have the final video of the movie.
I already tried to export in full HD quality (without any compression), but the result, of course, was too much big to be played.
I exported to H264, but after what I red, it make too much compression and it's made for web streaming.
I know that DCP would be helpful for a cinema screening, but I want to have a video with the best quality so I can show it to Producers and TV broadcasters.
So what is the best final export format I can have with adobe premiere Pro?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

The question is HOW do you want to share it with people? Will you email it to them, play it on your laptop or a tablet, website, what? H.264 is a good codec for sharing - it's the same codec used for Blu-ray, so it is NOT a "web quality" necessarily, all depends on the encoding settings used. H.264 is pretty universal as far as playback, versus other formats and codecs.

  • List Export Format for Prospects

    Hi,
I am looking for a list export format for Prospects in Siebel Marketing. An example load format was provided and I am able to load prospects successfully but I need the list export format for Prospects to be able to launch. The OBI version used is 10.1.3.4.1 and while this provides example export formats for Accounts and Contacts it doesn't for Prospects. Does anyone know if there is such an export format for Prospects or would I need to create my own list format and subject are?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
I solved the problem myself. It was caused by the source (S_PRSP_CONTACT) for the logical table OLTP Prospects in the business model Marketing Contact List being inactive by default.

If you are using your phone as a hotspot for you to connect your iPad to for streaming then YOU will be charged for data... not your carrier.

Neither one is particularly advantageous. Streaming video will take a considerable amount of power, meaning you'll probably want to keep a MBP's power adapter connected.

You have it currently installed? Can you go to the System Profiler and click on Applications (will take a while to populate) - take a look at your FCP and check what it says on the right - Universal, Intel, or PPC? It'll look like this:
If it's Universal or Intel, it'll run in Lion. However, the installer may or may not be PPC - that you may not know until you try to install. If you have it currently installed, then you could do what I did - move over all the files manually. I have a list of files for FCE and would assume they'd be the same with FCP: copy them from the old Mac and insert them in the very same spots on the new one.
Here is the list for FCE:

    Hi naturalfemale,
As mentioned in the referring article, closed captioning content has to be specifically added/enabled to a video for closed captioning to function:
    Additional Information
Not all videos include caption or subtitle tracks. Check the documentation for the video you are using to see if it includes these features.

At the moment, I do not believe there is an option for universal captioning.

  • Best export format for importing into After Effects or even back into Premiere

Please look at this video, work in progress.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49_wbdKALQk
The opening, featuring a ribbon of videos, was created in After Effects, using Digieffects Freeform.
The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the high quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • Best Format for Archiving Video Files

I am importing old VHS and 8mm family videos for my cousin, to both burn them to DVD, and to archive the movies in case he wants to edit them later.
I am planning on purchasing for him, a "write once," external HDD, probably firewire, (though I am open to suggestions), to put both the backup Video TS folders on, as well as the Quicktime movies themselves.
My guess is, the best format for the QT movies would be their original DV-NTSC, but at around 13GB an hour, this can add up pretty fast.
The h264 .mov codec looks great, takes forever to render, and it seems the file size difference to DV-NTSC is nominal at best.
Obviously the future is some kind of HD, so these movies will never look great years from now, but I want them to be preserved for him at the best quality possible, at the smallest file size, if it will not compromise the quality too much.
I know I can render them significantly smaller as h264 .mp4 files, or as DIVX, (which also takes a long time), but I imagine they are of significantly reduced quality that would be visible in future video editing he might do.
If DV-NTSC is the only way to go, so be it. But if not, then any suggestions for what other format I could use to save these QT files, without visible loss of quality is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the advice. And I mean everyone.
    Here is my latest dilemma.
Though 15 years old, the original Vhs's play beautifully. Aside from some (expected) glitches in the beginning or end of some of the shots, the video has not degraded appreciably. This is great news, as my cousin wanted to make back ups before degradation begins.
First, I captured the Vhs movies and corrected some bad color, mostly due to poor white balancing, and on the computer, they looked great in comparison. I burned DVD's and they looked terrible in comparison with the originals. Now I know I am going to lose some resolution when going to DVD, but it seemed harsh, so I ran some tests.
I burned a DVD of the original capture, with no color correction, just the raw footage and the DVD did not look much better, so it wasn't the color correction.
Not satisfied, I made a copy from the FCP timeline straight to Vhs, (I should note, through the ADVC-110.) This looked significantly degraded as well.
Finally, I made a straight dub from Vhs to DVCam, figuring that had to look good, and that also looked significantly degraded, compared to the, (now looking pristine), Vhs original.
As the original Vhs looks so good, what good would a TBC do? Or a proc amp?
Is there some secret to capturing and exporting Vhs that I am missing? Or, will it always look significantly degraded, even straight to DVCam?
+David Murray wrote: There is an industrial way to get good VhS copies but it is extremely expensive+
I don't know what this is, but I am sure it is clearly out of our league, but David M., if you are still following this thread, I'm curious, would this ultra expensive method actually result in a dub that looks like the original? I am actually really shocked at how bad the straight DVCam dub looks. It really does not look much better than the color corrected, computer exported version.
The Vhs tapes of my cousins daughter are as precious to him as anything he has.
As they date back 15 years, he is concerned about the longevity of the tapes.
As there are over forty hours of them, he wants them to be in an editable format, so later he or his daughter can make a highlight reel, or whatever. So thus the QT movie archive/backup on HD.
Whether as Finalcutter said, that this drive, even if unused, and put in a cool dry safe, might not function years down the line, makes it iffy, but what other choice is there for editable versions, unless I break the QT movies up into 20 minute chunks and archive them to over a hundred DVD's instead. Perhaps that is the safest solution, though certainly time consuming.
As failure of the HDD somewhere in the future is likely, though not certain, I am still not sure that the HDD holding all his QT movies for future editing is the wrong way to go.
As it is a digital version, and not an analog copy, I get that a DVCam backup of the originals is the best option. I will suggest to him that we do this as well, even though he does not have DVCam himself. But again, is there something I am missing here? Why does the Vhs to DVCam copy look so degraded? Is there anything I can do to keep the original quality, or will it die with his original Vhs as it slowly degrades over time?

  • HDV: best export format for client viewing?

I am working on a project in HDV 1080i (1440).
What is the best export format to create a sample for a client to view- one that will give the proper aspect ratio.
I've tried everything I can think of, and the export is still squashed 1440 and not full 1920
I am a pretty experienced Motion user.....please give me the video and the output settings.
    thanks!

hemmster- thanks I really appreciate the specific info
I dont mean to be dense but....I don't see those buttons anywhere in Motion 4. When I go to File>export what I see is:
    Export: (quicktime)
    Use: set to current project
When I click on the "options" button I am taken to the export options window with 2 tabs: "Video/audio" and "output"
Can you please translate your settings into those parameters....? I am assuming that under "video/audio" that compressor is H.264. The advanced button lets me set the data rate.
The Output tab lets you choose from a full range of resolutions. I could select "Custom" and set to 1280. No options for deinterlacing to be seen. Interlacing is a big problem with this project....
I have read the complete manual (twice) and the peachpit books. There is little info on this subject to be found there, so I am depending on the kindness of strangers
    Thanks, you are awesome........!

  • Best export settings for HD video playback on computer?

I have shot my video on 1080p witha DSLR and edited it in premiere pro. I exported the video in .mp4 format.
Now i imported the video in after effects and added loads of animation. I want to export it to the best quality for playback ON COMPUTER ONLY. Which is the best export settings for this purpose.
I rendered it in .avi and my 12 minute video had a size of 55GB after render and did not play smoothly in the computer.. PLEASE HELP WITH THE BEST SETTINGS for the above purpose.

You messed up. You should NOT have rendered MP4 out of Premiere to use in AE. You're adding compression and quality loss in between stages. BAD video person!
The easiest thing to do would be to import your Premiere project in AE. That way it can use the original footage too. If, for some reason, you can't do that, you should render a lossless file out of Premiere. Speaking of lossless files, that's what you rendered out of AE. This page explains your large AE file issue.
Anyway, take that large file you render out of AE into the Adobe Media Encoder and render out your final compressed file. Either H.264 or WMV should work well for playback.
