Best quality external mic adaptor for iPod

I am looking at two external mic adaptors for a fourth generation iPod. One is iTalk and iTalk Pro from Griffin. The other is the Universal Mic Adapter for iPod by Belkin. If anyone with a fourth generation iPod has any experience with either of these adapters they would like to share with me, I would love to hear from you. If anyone with my model iPod has a good experience with another mic adapter I would also love to hear about that.
I tried a M-Audio and was not happy. I tried a Sony digital recorder and was not happy. So this is my next attempt to get a simple small recording device for quick song sketches and the like. I use my video for anything serious.
Thanks.

I think you mean the 4G iPod's internal mic is poor.
Most mics and headphone/mic combos that plug into the headphone jack work just fine.  Apple seles one.

  • What is the best way to format Videos for ipod touch?

What is the best way to format Videos for ipod touch? Used Quicktime Pro/ Export (iPhone setting). Videos aren't as crisp as downloaded Videos. Compressors /ipod video Setting also looks crapy (with bitrate med & High). What should I use?

Visualhub is a transcoder with multiple input and output formats with specific setting for iPod,iPod touch. Costs around $19-used to work great but recently everything I convert suffers audio crash than closes out the player. Hopefully they will fix it.
Elgato H.264 hardware transcoder is $99 dollars(USB stick that plugs in to Mac)-speeds up encoding of any file quicktime can handle, settings for apple tv, iphone/touch, ipod,Sony PSP. Worth the cost if you transcode a lot of video for the Touch or own an elgato HD tuner. Files work flawlessly and look great.
Mpeg streamclip-free. Works great, has presets or can customize the output.

  • What do I need for the best quality external display?

    Greetings all,
I purchased the Intel i5 15inch Macbook Pro around July this year and I am wanting to use my external ldc monitor, which happens to be a Samsung Syncmaster 226cw, to act as my main display for the system. I tried asking an individual at Best Buy what would be the best quality way to ensure that my Macbook Pro will effectively use my monitor's native max resolution of 1680x1050, and he seemed rather clueless. So here I am. I know there are a lot of other users who have a lot of experience with this sort of thing and I'm placing myself in your hands for help and guidance.
If it helps, here is the factory description of my monitor I am wanting to use:
    http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/lcd-monitor/LS 22MEXSFV/XSS/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
If anyone can point me into the right direction I'd be very appreciative!

The specs say DVI-D so your best bet is the minidisplay port to DVI adapter then the appropriate DVI-D male to male cable.
    http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB570Z/A (the adapter)
    http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=363050 (the cable)
Note your display is only 1050 high so you wont get a full HD image - my LCD HD monitor (BenQ 24") is 1920 x 1080 pixels which is "full size".

  • 12w adaptor for ipod classic 80gb (2007)

just bought a 12w adaptor for my ipod classic 80gb (2007) but it doesn't display the charging icon when it's plugged in. i thought it was the adaptor that was faulty but it acually charges my ipad3. just wondering, can an iPod charge without displaying the charging icon? because the battery has definitely increased or at least, it displays more than half 50% more battery than when i first plugged it in. anyone knows why?!?!?

Same problem with mine. Has to be a firmware issue. I want to roll back to previous release of the ipod firmware (1.1.1?).

  • Does anyone know if replacement adaptors for ipod docks are available suitable for latest nano?

I have just got a replacement ipod and it's the latest 6th gen little square one with a clip on the back. This means it doesn't fit my JBL dock anymore - it's too fat.  JBL say they will send me a new set of adaptors but were uncertain that this new ipod would fit.
Does anyone know where to find an up to date set of adaptors for the nano and my iphone 3gs?
    Veronica

The iPhone is not user servicable. You can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for $149. If you open the phone yourself, you forfeit the ability to do this.

  • Best Recommended External Hard Drive For IMac 3.1Ghz i5 Core

    Hi Guys!
I'm in need of a external hard drive for my iMac,
I have never used a external hard drive for a Mac but i have for Windows PC's
I need something Fast & Easy to use,
    Thanks in advance!

Before you buy, find out what brand drive is installed. Stay away from Seagate. They appear to be turning out junk now. An external drive is not specific to any iMac model.
You can also just buy the same empty enclosure from OWC and get a decent deal on a bare drive from Newegg.com. Takes twenty minutes or less to DIY. How to video on the OWC site. Needs just a phillips screwdriver.
You want a 3.5" SATA drive. If from Newegg, it will need to be reformatted for Mac. Mac OS extended Journaled. Partition Map Scheme: GUID.

  • Mic adaptor for touch 3G?

sorry if this has been dealt with before, i did do a search, but it didn't turn up the answer.
i have a nice stereo mic with a minijack connector and i'm wondering if there's an adaptor i can buy for my 3g touch, so i can use it with voice memo etc. there are a few nice mics about specifically for the touch, but it would be much cheaper for me to buy an adaptor and use my existing microphone!

Thanks. Let me see if I get this straight: the reason not to use the iPhone 3G in the universal dock is that the universal dock is so wide that the iPhone 3G might wobble in there and break or bend a pin?
The iPhone 3G DOES work with the UNIVERSAL dock! This dock comes with multiple adaptors to fit various iPods, original iPhone and iPhone 3G. I don't know if it yet comes supplied with the iPhone 3G adaptor, but these can be bought separately from the Apple Store.
And same question for the original iPhone's dock that had a slot for the Bluetooth earpiece: is the reason not to use it that the 30-pin connector won't connect with the old dock's receptacle, or is because the bay is too wide to hold it firmly in place?
The original iPhone dedicated and combo (with BT set) doesn't fit the iPhone 3G and doesn't accept adaptors. Some users have physically modified them to work as described in a earlier post.

  • Quality headphones or earbuds for iPod (obviously :-)

I know there are other topics about this, but I prefer to post a separate one as my question is a little more specific than just "please just recommend me new headphones".
So, I'd like to get new earbuds/headphones for my iPod. I've been recommended Sennheiser's PX 200 headphones by many people. I like them, however, I think I would prefer earbuds if possible. Thus I'm also looking at Shure's E2Cs and Etymotic Research 6i Isolators. They are about twice the price of the Sennheisers.
What do owners of these headphones/earbuds think of them ? Has anyone got both PX 200-like headphones and good quality earbuds, and how do they compare (if I go for the more expensive earbuds, I'd like to benefit from a better sound) ? I've heard that Shure's earbuds were difficult to put into your ears : is it true ?
I'm welcome to any suggestion of good-quality headphones and earbuds, as long as they can be found on the Apple Store online (it's more convenient for me).
Thanks in advance to all of you.

Sorry about that. Please, let me be very clear here... the Sennheiser had great bass and had what I can describe as full sound. The Shures were great, but really lacked bass. I had them fitting very snugly and the sealed quite nicely in my ears; however, the absence of bass was too noticeable for me. Perhaps, if I had never owned the Sennheiser, I would never have noticed, but it is like driving a Yugo your whole life and then trying a Hyundai. It is a huge improvement; however, get a person in a BMW and they will never be able to say that the Hyundai is the best again. I hope that helps.

  • What are the best affordable external drive options for my iMac ?

    Hello,
I am a fairly recent newcomer to Macintosh as my primary personal computing platform. I have recently installed Adobe CS4 Design Premium Student Edition on a late 2006 20in iMac and have several important questions about external hard drives. First of all, everyone knows that using any personal computer (whether you its a Macintosh, or a PC running Windows and/or Linux) without an acceptable way to backup critical data is no different than driving in your car without your seat belt fastened. I need advice for a good external hard disk solution for backup and several other important computing tasks given the following realities
    1. Contrary to what I to originally thought, I do not have Firewire 800, but instead have access to dual firewire 400 ports in addition to USB 2.0. My concern over connection speed in regards to Adobe's recommendation to use RAID 0 arrays for scratch disks used by Photoshop CS4. Adobe also recommends that scratch disks for photoshop CS4 are assigned on a hard disk that is not your startup disk. Nontheless, Adobe has no objection to use your startup disk assuming it has plently of Free space (and mine does w/ 189.53 GB available)
    2. Do really need RAID 0 to achieve the performance I would need? I had prior Mac based training with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign, in High school. I have not used this software in 4 years and am not only trying to refresh my skills but to learn the software. In other words I am still in the beginner stage With practice and patience, I will certainly learn the software and use it to the best of my creative energies. Given the situation if my work becomes complex enough over time how important is RAID 0 when I make purchase of an external hard disk? I known that the disk utility in Mac OS X allows the user to create a Raid array. This seems like the cheapest way to accomplish the job. However, the purchase of an external Hard Drive must be able to safely backup my system and also provide adequate performance.
    3. Speaking of backup, I am one of those users who is still stubbornly clinging to Mac OS X Tiger. However, updating to a new OS has been required ritual for my previous two PCs. That said given that Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard will be out in mere months, I do not see the wisdom now in upgrading to Leopard. After all as a higher education student, money is tight and see Snow Leopard as far more compelling and future-proof upgrade. Snow Leopard is getting better plumbing and will also include Microsoft Exchange Server support (possibly the biggest selling point). I also have interest in using Boot Camp in 10.6 (or 10.5) for running windows software (that are useful for my academics) and games (particularly Half-Life 2 and other Steam games that can run well within my Mac's fairly limited gaming capabilities. If I decide to use Boot Camp I have to partition my internal hard disk. This further complicates finding a very reasonable, affordable, and reliable external disk solution given everything that I have mentioned. Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I don't think you should worry about the RAID stuff. The only way you could create a RAID is by using external drives, or one those external enclosures with two drives inside. Any speed advantage of such a RAID would be mostly negated by the FireWire 400 connection.
Use your internal drive space for speed critical functions. Use a FireWire 400 external drive for additional storage space, where speed is important but not critical, such as storing your existing media (including your things like your iTunes library files). Use a separate cheaper USB 2.0 external drive for your Time Machine (or whatever method) backup archive, where speed is not that important at all (some people even use a network connection for their Time Machine backup).
You can get a FireWire 800 drive and use an adapter to connect to FireWire 400. The connection won't be any faster on your iMac, but you can use the drive later with a Mac that does have FireWire 800. There are drives that have FireWire 400 and 800, and USB 2.0.
I like the drives sold by OWC
    http://www.macsales.com/
I often buy the drive enclosure empty and find a good deal on the hard drive mechanism that I want. OWC sells most of their drives empty. My current Time Machine drive is actually one of these USB adapters
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/U2NV2SPATA/
connected to a Western Digital 750GB SATA drive that I got for about $70. Found that deal through dealmac.com. Couldn't think of a cheaper way to add that large amount of backup space, and it works very well. The internal drive in my iMac is only 160GB, so most of my personal data is on an external FireWire 400 drive; both drives are backed up by Time Machine.

  • Getting the best quality out of iMovie for Photo Slideshows

Hi, Finally I got my iMac the other day and have been playing around and trying to get the best out of it and was hoping to get some help from here. I have been playing with ilife on a friends mac for a while but never had a go in anger and now need some proper answers. Its quite simple. I create photo dvd slideshows and need to find the best way to do it. As far as I can tell there are a few ways. I can use imovie to get the running order - add the Ken Burns effects (that I DO need) - add music - add transitions and "share" to a .mov file and drag this into iDVD to put a menu on. Ok - this works but I get some MPEG artifacts (I know this is to be expected - I have been doing this for years on a PC). I can drag photos into iDVD but as far as I can tell I cannot have Ken Burns so this is out. I can use iPhoto to make a .mov file and again import this into iDVD. Am I missing something here? iMovie08 seems great and the .mov file is good enough quality to re-render in iDVD without losing too much quality so I guess this is the way to go but is there no way to go without rendering the .mov file and then going into iDVD? I have also used iMovie06 before and it had better transitions between photos - have these been lost in iMovie08?? I have set the quality in iMovie08 to "Profesional" but there stil seems to be a bit of artifacting. Should I try Toast?
Apologies for the long post but am really keen to get this sorted. I have posted before on here and got great responses but just want to get it right 100% before putting lots of effort in. I have next week off work to perfect the photos to DVD slideshow before I start to try to sell these things! many many thanks.Ben

    Hi,
Many thanks for the post. It seems to be that iDVD is giving me the render quality issues. I am going to try toast to see what thats like. Thanks for the help with imovie06. I have been using it but it has a bug when you fade music out so cannot use it unfortunately!

  • X220 - Headset and Mic Adaptor for combo port

Hello, I want to be able to record my external microphone along with hearing using the headphones on this laptop. Because the connection is a combo port, It means I need an adaptor of some sorts.
    I've tried this one:
    http://www.theheadsetbuddy.com/PC-Headset-to-35mm-Phone_c36.htm
And I'm not sure if its the cable or the pc - It's very picky, with me able to record at low levels... With funny behaviour like heading part of the microphone in my headphones, and it takes me twisting the connection to get a balance between appearing as "not connected" and somehow working, to putting out a loud static noise and appearing as connected.
    Running an 4286CTO - X220 i7 2620m, 4gig Ram, 320gig HDD. 6 Cell battery
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

found the problem. In the Smart audio settings, the speaker "tab" has an option for classic stream, or multi stream. The multistream in its description seems to be for having sound independant in the speakers and headphone. It also messes up the microphone, perhaps combining the two (internal and external?)
Changing that to classic, enabled all of the cables to work properly. Woohoo!

It will NOT work with the 2nd Gen Shuffle...think about HOW the Shuffle is connected to a powersource: through the headphone jack on its dock, thus rendering the headphone jack useless for connecting headphones to it. Some vendor MAY provide a new accessory which provides an audio out as well as a power source in teh future...
