Best replacement for Palm iii

Please don't laugh!  I am still using my old and trusty Palm III.  I realize generations of new products have passed me by, but at last I am ready to replace my old Palm.  I don't want a phone, just a PDA that I can synch to my PC Windows 7.
What is the best replacement choice and is there a tool to move my address file to the replacement?
Greatly appreciate your advice.  Thanks.

There are no new non-phone Palm OS PDAs.  Hopefully a new webOS tablet will make it out next year.  But your alternatives are to purchase a used or refurbished Palm OS device such as a TX or E2, or a new something else such as an iPod Touch or a Windows Mobile PDA such as an iPaq.
You'd be able to move your contacts one way or the other, possibly by migrating your data to Outlook first if you got something other than a replacement Palm OS device.

  • What is the best replacement for iWeb?

I have been using iWeb for a very long time. I need to move on to something that is being updated. What is the best replacement for iWeb? I see Wordpress needs special software to work on a Mac.
    Thanks!

I have used HostExcellence in the past and they support all the CMS's including WordPress, so you should have no problems there.
The top CMS's that most have heard about and use are Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.
There is probably no best one, but you need to look at them all and use the one that best fits your needs.
I have used all of them in the past, but most recently Joomla and Drupal.  Drupal has a reputation for being quite hard and Drupal 6 was, but with the advent of Drupal 7, things got a lot easier.  There are a lot more themes that you can use and if you want increased functionality in Drupal, then you can download Modules and install them.  You can have a membership site if you want it and this is easy to do - people can sign up for an account and you can restrict their access to certain parts of the site and then limit what they can do.  You can allow people to complete forms on the site itself and the results to be sent to you.  There is a Blog module that you can enable and that comes in Drupal Core with no need to download an extra module.
Joomla is good also and you can have a Blog with it too and there are lots of themes to choose from, but sometimes you have to pay for extras with Joomla - you can download Extensions and Plugins, but they may not always be free.
WordPress was always just thought of as a blogging platform, but it has evolved in to much more than that and you can now create stunning looking websites with blogs - there are a good range of free templates to choose from and if you want your blog on the front page of your site you can have this, or you can change it to another part of your site if you want a static front page.  To extend functionality you can download plugins from inside WordPress itself, most of which are free.  This might be the easiest one for you to use if you just want a website with a built in blog that is relatively easy.
Check out the others though at Drupal.org, Joomla.org and then WordPress.org.

First step before doing anything with OD is to make certain that local DNS services are correct.  To verify that, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities on the test server, and issue the following harmless, diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to enter your administrative password for the sudo to be accepted.
If the output from that command reports no changes are required, then an export from the original OD and an import into the test system would be typical for testing, if you trust what's in the original OD.

  • Mac software for Palm III?

Hello. While I was cleaning out my cupboard, I pulled out my old 3Com Palm III and the HotSync Cradle that I had with it. I was wondering if someone had any software for mac that could communicate with the Palm III. If there is any software, I'll buy a Serial to USB adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The correct version of the Palm Desktop and the HotSync Manager is here.

  • What is the best replacement for iDVD

I just bought a new iMac and found out that iDVD has vanished. What's the best approch for making slide shows from iPhoto and burning to a  DVD?

Sorry, but I haven't found a way to burn a movie directly from iMovie since iMovie HD (6) (note: burn project to disk):
Whereas, there are no options to burn in the current iMovie version:
You can share it to online sites and you can export it, but you can't burn it.

  • Bible Software NIV for Palm III

OK, I know I'm asking for the moon here, and I've searched the web diligently (checked EBay too), to no avail.  So I'm asking you enthusiasts if you have ANY idea of where I might get this software for such a dinosaur (yes, I'm kind of cheap).
I'd really appreciate any help I can get....my husband asked for it last Christmas and I haven't found it yet....then came up with the brilliant idea of checking with you guys....OK, I'm slow and somewhat old!

  • What is the best replacement for Photoshop from the App Store?

One of the things I miss is my ability to use Photoshop with earlier OS versions.  I do keep a MacBook Pro to the side of my desktop iMac so I can still use Photoshop.
My questions is....can anyone suggest a suitable replacement for Photoshop that I can use with the latest versions of OS?  I have already tried Pixelator but it does not have some of the features that I really beed (like drop shadow).
    Thanks in advance.

  • What is the best cover for Palm TX.

Hi, I know you are going to think this is a stupid question, but here goes.  I love my Palm TX.  It has replaced my laptop for most purposes.  I take it every where I go, carrying it in my breast pocket of my shirt.  When I bought it, it came with a little flip cover that had kind of an anti-slip surface that helped to keep it from slipping out of my pocket when I bend over.  After lots of bending back and forth the flip cover finally broke off.  I bought a leather case for it but that made it to bulky to fit in my shirt pocket.  Now I carry it without any cover but it slips out easily.  I have looked all over for another anti-slip flip cover like the one that came with it, but I can't find one anywhere.  There are tons of covers out there, but it is hard to tell if they will be right for the way I use my palm tx.  What I am looking for is a slim cover that has an anti-slip surface so it won't fall out of my pocket.  Anybody here know where I can find something like this?  Thanks for the help.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

As HBZ indicated, the flip cover is mounted to a rail that slides into a channel on the side of the TX.  It slides out through the bottom end of the TX.
Just push, it has a slight detent in it (a bump) that holds it in place in the channel.

  • Best replacement for G4 Powerbook Titanium AC adapter?

    Hi all,
My AC adapter has gone kaput, and I am looking for a replacement. (Don't have AppleCare Protection). They are selling for $79 at the Apple Store, and there's a few on eBay. But, I found this generic thing over at macally.com
Does anyone have experience with the macally power adapter? Is it trustworthy?
    TIA-
    Matt

My preferences are for Seagate and Hitachi drives due to the reliability I've had, especially with Seagate, in 10+ years. However other people here have expressed preferences for Samsung and/or Western Digital. There have also been plenty of people against Toshiba drives (many reports of drive failures).
Not all drives offer the same features. For example, some have shock protection whilst others have encryption or may be ultra quiet. Others offer longer warranties etc.
The 80-120GB range should give you plenty of scope. A 5400RPM drive will be a good all-rounder, whilst a 7200RPM offers ultimate speed. Unless you are going to be using disk intensive apps, the 5400RPM should be sufficient. It's also worth looking out for drives with at least 8MB cache.
If you are going to buy an external enclosure then try to get a FireWire or FW/USB combo version. Don't buy a USB-only enclosure as it will not be able to boot up your PowerBook. Having a bootable external drive will give you more and better options when troubleshooting (or if there's a problem with the internal).

  • DVDRW replacement for GCC-4481B

I currently have a Combo drive (GCC-4481B) in my G5 and would like to upgrade my system to a superdrive/DVDRW.
What is the best replacement for this drive?
I would like to avoid having to switch bezels etc and would like to just swap one drive out for another.
    Can you give any recommendations?

You probably won't get a choice. They will replace it with what they have in stock at that time. I have had a UJ857 in mine for 6 months and have no problems with it.
Your other choice, which would void the warranty, is to have someone replace it for you. Here in the states it is about 250 US dollars for a dual layer dvd drive with installation.

  • Need a method for importing Palm III data into a Palm Centro

I just bought a Palm Centro (Verizon), with the expectation of importing data from my old Palm III.  From the Palm III Desktop, I exported Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos into separate folders (this was done on a Windows XP PC) and copied the resulting folders & files onto a flash drive.  But when I try to import these files into the Palm Centro desktop (on a new Mac Pro with OSX), the backup files are not in a "recognized format."  Does anyone have a process for reliably getting the Palm III data into the Palm Centro?  Also, is there an easy way to purge unwanted Contacts/Calendar events from the Palm Centro handheld?  With all the trial and error, its accumulating a lot of garbage.  Thanks...

  • Best option for protecting the palm wrest area from staining?

My new white MacBook is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I currently use a blackbook. Anyway, I have kind of oily skin, and I'm worried about staining on the white plastic on the new computer where my palms rest during use.
What's the best option for protecting this area? I've seen the Marware protection pack, but I've read quite a few bad reviews on it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Dave

I use Mareware's product on my WhiteBook and it is sold at the Apple Store and Apple online. It also comes with a keyboard cover cloth to put on when the Book is closed to protect the screen. The cloth doubles as a soft wipe for the screen. The palm rest is custom fitted for the palm area and is removable. I have removed it twice and stuck it back on. • What's the best replacement program for idvd to burn dvd's, what's the best replacement program for idvd to burn dvd's

What is the best dvd burning program to replace idvd? i'm trying to burn good quality DVD's from imovie.

There is no truly "best" replacement - I haven't found one that can do what iDVD can (customizable menus/themes).
You can still purchase the retail iLife 11 disk which includes iDVD from online resellers, ebay, and Amazon. I've seen it there for as little as $25; Apple no longer offers it - I'm assuming they ran out of stock. I purchased it because I use it extensively and wanted to make sure I can reinstall if necessary.
The closest alternative would be Roxio Toast ($$); excellent burning app (plus a slew of other things), I use it, but its' menu choices are not acceptable to me.
