Best router for the job

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had a proposition to resolve this situation:
i work in a small office (10 employees, 1 server)
presently, our internet goes trough a linksys router and a linksys switch with power over ethernet
... ITS HORRIBLE... I keep having to reset the router and the internet is not constant (programs such as ichat keep connecting and disconnecting)
my firmware is up to date
does anyone have a better proposition as far as equipement for this type of setup? I was thinking airport extreme maybe? would it be enough?
thanks
JM

I would like to add two more points:
You also need to consider the type of Internet link you have. If you have a slow 1.5Mbit DSL line, even 20 people are downloading large files simultaneously, you are still going to be fine, since your bottleneck is in the slow DSL line. If you have a leased line, and manage some web servers in-house, that could be taxing for the little Apple router.
The other thing you have to consider is what type of office you're going to be covering with the wireless network. Are you in an open floor office (easy) or old brick building (hard)? Apple have always put styling above functionality, and they have always hidden the antennas inside the box. As result, there is very little you can do to shape the radio waveform.
Click Here for a good explaination of different types of antenna and their signal shapes (including the Airport built-in one). As you can see, Apple has a very short range, but it's placement is not very critical. If you need the flexibility of having external antennas, then Apple is not for you either.

  • Is the 'Undercover' app the best app for the job ?

    Hi,
    Is the 'Undercover' app the best app for help finding a lost iPhone/Touch or is there an app that does a better job ?
    Thanks

    Short of getting MobileMe that is probably the best you are going to come up with. You will have to hope that whoever finds the iPhone actually plays the game and that you check for this information close to the time they do so. You also need to hope they don't connect the iPhone to their computer which will wipe the app from the device.

  • Best Router for The new iPad and iPhone 4s?

    I've rescently purchased The new ipad, and since my wifi hasnt been working with my iphone 4s i didnt expect the wifi to last long on the ipad either, so im thinking of purchasing a new router, what would be the best one for these two products? i also own 2 computers

    I love the linksys E4200 ! Its awesome and has a very good rating plus it's top of the line ! It runs just as fast wireless as it does on cat5 ! It's a little pricey but well worth it ! You would not be disappointed.

  • BEST WIRELESS ROUTER FOR THE JOB

    I want to use my wireless router/adsl gateway (Westell Versalink) to send its wireless signal to a bunch of computers I have upstairs. I would like to purchase a router that would pickup that signal (from the Westell) nd relay it to some wired computers. What product would solve this problem? Basically, I don't want to have to wire a connection upstairs.

    WESTELL ADSL GATEWAY))))))))))))((((((((LINKSYS ?--------CPU(ETHERNET)

    i dont need a router...
    what you need is a repeater or an access point. since your not using a linksys router. you can try the access point but i dont promise anything..
    but im pretty sure you dont need a router

  • Best Router for the least interference?

    I am helping a friend out that owns a small bar. She is trying to let a few people in her place have wireless access to her internet connection, so they can help her out with some bookeeping, do some webpage stuff, let her do orders, etc while out at the bar.
    She Had DSL put in that had a wirelss router built in. Somtimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. (the DSL was terrible wired even) She went cable modem, and bought a cheap router from someone else (not my choice!). No one seems to be able to get the wirelss to connect to the thier computer.
    Since this is a bar, there is neon everywehre, coolers, and old wireless phone, a couple of wireless camers, but even with your computer right next to the router, people can't get connected.  With all of the other things, pushing oput signals in the area, it seems that the inerference mught just be to high. Most of the technology is pretty old, so I don't think anything is in the 2.4ghz band , but i could be wrong.
    Could all the neon, etc be cuaing the interference (I tried shutting it off) would  an N router working in the 5.8 ghz make a difference?
    Essentially, what is the best linksys router in an environement like this that would provide the best signal?
    thanks,
    Wirelessless

    As you have mentioned in the post, so many device installed in the bad, its obevious that there will be an interference between the routers wireless signal and other deviceses. I think N series router will be the best suitable router in that environment. I think you can for WRT160N v3 or WRT400N (As this WRT400N is a Duab Band router) and its a Latest router launched by Linksys recently.

  • Best Mac for the Job

    We are looking to upgrade our editing system.
    We produce 1-2 minute motion graphics in After Effects CS4.  We also import miniDV footage and use 'multi-cam edit' in Premier Pro CS4 to produce a 30-min T.V. show.
    We are looking at a Mac Pro.  Give me your recommendations on Processor, Ram, HD, Graphics Card and how to preview on TV video monitor.  We have a 2TB in-house server, so I don't think I need multiple HDs for media storage.
    Thanks in advance.

    Neither Harm nor Jim are correct. I use both platforms and the Mac wins hands down. Regardless of hardware, OS X is far superior to the world of hurt that is Windows. I would recommend getting the base quad-core Mac Pro and adding RAM from a Mac specialized 3rd party supplier (you will save a ton of money this way). The Mac Pro is a great machine and a snap to upgrade. Comparable Windows PCs are actually more expensive than the Mac Pro so it is also a good bargain. The stock graphics card should be good enough for your needs. With a DVI or mini display adapter it should permit you to connect to a TV monitor.

  • Best BIOS for the job? (K8N Neo4f)

    I have, as stated in the subject, a K8N Neo4F mobo and an AMD Venice core CPU.  I have read that there are BIOS specifically tailored for Venice core, and some are not.  Which version of BIOS should I be using to optimize my system?  Honestly, as I am not at home, I'm not even sure which I have, but I believe it is 1.6.  I do seem to be hitting the same walls that I have read other people hit without a BIOS modded for Venice core.  Is there any truth to this?  I am still rather new to all of this, as this is my first build, would it not be advisable to start messing with this stuff?
    Thanks for any help.

    Is there any problem with your hardware? If you don't have any problems do not flashed it as it might cause you problem unless it has a problem then you have no choice to flashed it. Many ppl used Ver 1.9 while other's don't. You may look into this forums where you have the same spec's of yours.See from my sig as it might help you how to flashed the bios. Gd luck.

  • What is the best router for mugs connectivity

                       i am looking for best networking institute in India, for optical networking please suggest, have heard about Networkers Zone (http://networkerszone.com/) , however needs suggestion and what is the best router for mugs connectivity.

    For training on the Cisco Optical I would rrecommend Fastlane http://www.fastlane.si/ they would be able to fullfill your training requirements either in India or at another location even at the Cisco Factory in Monza, they can tailor courses to your specific requirements and also do switching and routing courses too, I have know one of the instructors for over 10 years they are very good.
    As far as recommending the best router, that all depends on the application, not what you mean by mugs connectivity, I know what mugs is in English but not sure if thats what you mean or if it is an acronym for something else   in any case if you post in the router section of Net-Pro with your specific requirements I'm sure someone woule be able to help/advise accordingly.

  • Help - Best router for netflix streaming?

    Hello,
    I tried a Netgear wrn3500 and Linksys 610n before buying an Airport Extreme.
    I seem to get choppy video from netflix using the Airport Extreme than I did with the other two.
    Can someone recommend the best router for Video and gaming?
    I am using cable internet (Time Warner)
    Thanks
    Frank

    If online gaming is the most important requirement, you will want to go with routers that support UPnP. All the major game console vendors support sites list compatible routers for their respective versions of online gaming access.
    For streaming you will want a router with both Gigabit Ethernet (WAN & LAN-side) and offers 802.11n that operates in the 5 GHz radio band with wide-channels.
    Finally, if you want to support both gaming and streaming at the same time, I suggest that you look at routers that can operate in both the 2.4 & 5 GHz bands simultaneously.

  • Best router for my network

    Hi, I have a PowerMac G4 (dual processor) with no wireless option and a PowerBookG4 with airport card, I've been told to get a router in order to have both computers working with Internet at the same time. I bought an Airport Express, but definitely, I need a router, I know that. I just want if somebody can tell me what is the best router for my computers. I've been reading about them, they are G Routers, N Routers, wireless, wired, etc. Before I buy one, I want to be sure I am buying a right one.
    Thanks a lot.

    Duane,
    You have lost me now.
    DSL modem from Interent provider is setup as a bridge.
    The ethernet cable can be connected directly to the Express and provides me with network and Internet.
    1. Create a wireless Network
    2. There is a choice in the Express to "Connect using Ethernet".
    3. Connection Sharing set to "Share a Public IP Address"
    4. Manually put in the IP, Subnet, and Router address assigned by your ISP.
    Works just fine for me. I have been doing this for many years.
    I also have set it up like I mentioned above.
    Cheap hub. Plug in the DSL modem in bridge mode to the hub. Plug in the Express to the hub.
    Setup the Express as outlined above. Same thing with an Extreme or a TC...
    Again, works for me..
    You say NO DHCP service for Ethernet Clients. OK... Put in a static IP and you shouldn't have any problems.

  • BODS 3.1 : How to trigger an email alert for the jobs on BODS server ?

    Hi All.
    I have this request.
    BODS 3.1 : How to trigger an email alert for the jobs on BODS server ?
    We have jobs scheduled on BODS running smoothly and absolutely fine.
    But to check, i am logging into the admin console and check for the jobs status.
    I would like to have an email to be received from BODS after each job is finished.
    It could succuessful. Or it could fail.
    Whatsoever, i wish to receive an email alert as soon as a job is finished.
    Can anyone advise me as to whether this could be made possible.
    And if yes, how this could be done.
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    In BOE CMC / for webi / schedule / we find an option to send email for a job success or a job failure.
    Is there any option similar to that in BODS ?
    Also would like to know :
    how to use the smtp_to or mail_to functions ?
    how to set up the smtp server for this ?
    thanks

    Hi.
    Since am new to this BODS. I need some help.
    I already have many jobs which are running absolutely fine.
    And when a job runs, and finishes, am able to see the trace saying
    e.g. :
    Job_abc is completed successfully.
    We got the smtp service activated for our test server.
    and we hae a group email id.
    I have put the details of the smtp server / ip address / and said apply restarted.
    The i created a simple test script as below :
    print (' Before email ' );
    smtp_to('abc@company_name.com', 'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has FAILED',
    ' the job has failed', 0, 0);
    print('After Email ');
    It does send a email to as per smtp_to whatever email is specified.
    But how to differentiate between a job success
    And a job which has failed.
    I wish to have a mail which says on the subject :
    'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has completed successfully'
    ==> IF it is a success
    OR
    'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has failed'
    ==> if it has failed
    How to make the system identify, whether
    to send a success message or a error message whatever
    Could anyone advise.
    thanks

    Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.
    5. No special drivers are needed.

    Hi,
    There was a serious BIOS/UEFI problem with that SSD . Perhaps this thread will save you some headaches. Someone is recomending shutting off Rapid Boot in the setup, which would probable mean little with a SSD, anyway.
    I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.
