Best screen color calibration software?

It has recently become apparent that I desperately need to calibrate my screen for correct color. I inherited my current computer when starting a new job and have been working my way through updating programs, file, etc.
My questions is, what is the best software to buy to calibrate my screen? Any suggestions?

Besides hardware callibration, you need good screen that is made for graphic. You can't calibrate some low-cost screens. I suggest you Eizo screens, for example Eizo FlexScan S2433W (http://www.eizo.com/global/products/flexscan/s2433w/index.html) or Eizo ColorEdge CG241W (http://www.eizo.com/global/products/coloredge/cg241w/index.html) They are little expencive, but you will get the best.
Forgot to mention that you can buy Calibrator with screen also.
Hope that helps.

  • Best Professional Color Calibration Device?

I'm looking to upgrade my Pantone huey to a more professional color calibration device that will also incorporate my printing equipment. I've been looking at the Colormunki. Does anyone have any experience with the Colormunki? Also, what's the difference between the Colormunki Design and Photo?
    Thanks!

I purchased X-Rite ColorMunki Photo last week and has been very pleased with my decision. I had a bad experience with Pantone Huey Pro. Don't use this or even considering to invest into it. I had Pantone Huey Pro a year ago or so. I also own a X-Rite ColorMunki Create, too.
As for 'best' professional color calibration device, there are different types of calibration devices. Some only for printer calibration only. Other calibration device is done for monitor only. In the case of X-Rite ColorMunki Photo, it is capable of calibrating monitor, printer calibration and projector calibration. It is ideally designed for busy photographers who want to spend lot of time photo shooting rather than spend lot of time on computer and lot of time with calibration, this is for photographers or pronsumers.
As for the very best professional calibration device, you are talking about calibration devices costs more than a grand or two or higher. For printing large format, fine art prints on high-end format printer, more specialized and more expensive calibration to do just for this purpose.
While for X-Rite ColorMunki Design, it is ideally designed for graphic designers or creative professionals.
Also, X-Rite ColorMunki Photo and Design has pretty nice short training DVD (or downloaded flash file from X-Rite after registration and activation).
    Hope that helps.

    Mark,
Pantone has dropped the Spyder 2 if that tells you anything (I found it very slow, the white point too warm never matching what I asked for). PANTONE is now carrying the Huey (for the novice) and eye-one display 2, both from GretagMacbeth.
I have tested all 3 of them on my 23" ACD and found the Eye-One and X-Rite's MonacoOPTIX-XR PRO very close. I prefer the OPTIX for it's 3D profiles and advanced tracking features to evaluate performance over time.

  • W520 External Color Calibrator stopped working with updated Pantone v1.1 software

Can someone from Lenovo help me with this issue? Lenovo updated the color calibrator software in Aug 2012. They broke an external color calibrator working. L1/2 has been completely unhelpful. I also escalated to customer service with little result except that they say it is not Lenovo software and they do not have to support it! Unacceptable, the software isprovided by Lenovo. Lenovo doc also says an external color calibrator is supported. Lenovo needs to take responsibility for fixing this. Here are the email chains. I really want a refund or someone to ensure this package that Lenovo distributes is fixed!
     Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kelli,
I do not want this case closed and disagree. This is Lenovo provided software and according to Lenovo an external calibrator is supported. I want someone to take responsibility for getting this fixed. Lenovo has provided this software and needs to work with the vendor to ensure it works. Who do I need to speak to in management? I do not appreciate the way support has just shuttled this around and nothing has gotten done.
    Sincerely,

    Mr Lang,
Please be advised that I have taken this case assigned to Doris. Lenovo is not able help you with this issue, We cannot provide support for a third party product.  The calibrator you are using is supported by X-Rite; any issues with the device need to be addressed by them,
I am sorry for your frustration however Lenovo has exhausted all means to help with a non-hardware issue. At this time Lenovo is closing this case.

Error with latest update to Pantone Color Calibrator Software (v1.1) and Eye one external calibrator   09-19-201211:39 AM - edited 09-20-201209:10 AM Hi. Can someone have a look at the Pantone 1.1 package. I am using an eye one display calibrator with the updated Pantone software and the calibration does not work. I get an error about an 8 bit image missing (have attached a screenshot). The calibration is not correct and Windows Photoviewer is pink. This was working OK with the v1.0 of the software (no longer on the w520 driver page). The error message is "There was an error loading the specified profile. Please make sure the image has an embedded profile and it is an 8-bit image." This was working fine before the update to v1.1. Thanks

    I am getting the runaround!!!
    Hi Doris,
I just left you a voice mail. One of the reasons I bought this laptop was for 3d photography. If I cannot use an external color calibrator and display then the laptop is not fit for purpose for the reasons I bought it. This software is ONLY available from Lenovo. According to Lenovo’s own doc, and the software’s doc, an external color calibrator is SUPPORTED. Lenovo needs to step to the plate and fix this. Not ME. If Lenovo needs to go to Pantone, or x-rite, then they Need to do that. Lenovo provided software that is not available to the public from x-rite or Pantone, and the software is to support Lenovo provided hardware (least so far as the internal calibrator), this software ALSO supports an external calibrator for use with an external display. The software supports both internal and external, and I would like to use my external display for 3d photography. This needs to be fixed please.
What are we going to do to resolve this? At his point of the runaround I’ve been getting I would like a complete refund.
    Thanks,
    Christopher

    Hi Kelli,
As you know the ‘software’ purchase is by virtue of purchasing the laptop with the color calibrator. Are you saying you will refund my cost for the calibrator? I don’t think you quite get how much time I have spent with support with this laptop. I have had multiple issues with the it. The calibrator, failed BT adapter, Sudden Shutdown syndrome (where the machine would just shutoff on its own –well documented in the Lenovo forums and I have at least a dozen emails on this issue) as well as many issues with the Displayport connection and an external 3d display for which I spent months working with Nvidia to resolve. This laptop has wasted a huge amount of my time. The support has been atrocious.
I would like a refund for 1. The laptop 2. The external color calibrator I cannot use because the software from Lenovo does not work (this package is NOT available from x-rite as well –It is sold to Lenovo). I have a receipt for the color calibrator and would be happy to provide that.
    Thank you,
    Christopher

  • U2413 Color Calibration "Verify USB Connection"

I am trying to use the Dell Ultrasharp Color Calibration Solution with an x-rite i1 Display Pro.
Can't get beyond "Verify USB Connection". The USB cable between the monitor and computer is connected (tried both a USB 3.0 and a 2.0 port). The USB hub on the monitor is working. E.g. a USB stick connected to it can be read. The hub also appears in Device Manager.
But the Color Calibration software insists that there is no connection.
I made sure that nothing was connected to the hub. Installed the driver as suggested by Chris in "http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19618874". So far nothing works.

The monitor is connected via HDMI to a Radeon HD 7900 card. I am not sure what you mean by "upstream" and "downstream", but there is a single USB cable connected to the back of the monitor to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. (I tried a USB 2.0 port as well.) The USB hub is working (tested with a USB stick). When I tried to use the calibration software nothing was connected to the hub (apart from when I tested with the x-rite i1Display connected to the hub).
Other USB ports on the computer are connected to: keyboard, mouse, HardLock dongle (also tested without the dongle).
The monitor was reset to Factory Defaults.
    Only one monitor is connected.
    DP 1.2 is disabled.
I tried the x-rite device connected directly to the computer and on both of the USB ports on the side of the monitor. X-rite's own Profiler software always recognizes the device, no matter to which port it is connected.

  • X-Rite i1 Pro and color calibration

Will the X-rite i1 Pro work with the X-Rite color calibration software?
    Cheers,
    Steve

It will work with DCCS version 1.5 or higher (it should, and it has been reported to work), but it will have less accuracy than an i1DisplayPro while dealing with GB-LEDs (like these Dells).
This last statement is not Xrite or Dell's software fault, it will happen with any good calibration software and GB-LED monitors, its just a matter of Xrite's spectrophotometers hardware limitations.

    why ?
because, it is not only a 'grabber', but it includes an 'editor', drop-dead-simple as iMovie, which includes many features ESPECIALLY made for tutorials - e.g. you can zoom-in after recording without quality-loss, you can change cursor-size, highlite, 'print' pressed keys on screen, add a pic-in-pic (if you like your face in your tuts ) ..
    side-note: screen-grabs are off the standards, iM or FinalCut/express support! so, a built-in editor is a ++ ! (the exports/uploads from a SF-project are superb!)

  • Screen color settings changes when certain software is launched.

Since today I noticed the screen color settings of my Macbook Pro 17" (beginning 2011 model — Running OSX 10.8.4) is changing when certain software is launched. In this case, Indesign CS6.0 gives a strange blue hue over my screen, but when I check my screen color settings, nothing has changed, everything is set the same as when I don't run the softwares that change my screen color settings. I don't recall changing any settings that could have triggered this action. I didn't change any settings in Indesign CS6.0. I do regularly use CleanMyMac 2 to clean out my computer, maybe this has changed some settings? How can I change this back to normal? Google didn't help me neither.

Ah right, don;t use laptops much and always forget about that one, good catch. Switching graphics cards would definitely have an effect.
Just remember with that unchecked you will decrease battery run time so you might want to switch it back on when you are not doing graphics and you are on battery.

  • Color Calibrator can't work properly due to display not filling screen.

I have a Thinkpad W520 with the HD 1920x1080 display and the color sensor. I tried to run the Color Calibrator application but it always runs to completion but cannot process the measurements. So I opened the lid in the middle of a calibration and discovered that the color screen that is supposed to be viewed by the sensor is not full screen, thereby preventing the sensor from measuring the color. How can I set the graphics so that this app will display full screen when it runs? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes I am. But I just solved the problem. I had adjusted my display to show text, icons, etc at 150% of normal resolution. Somehow it was causing the application to display only a partial screen. I set the magnification to 125% and now the color calibrator works fine.

  • Best Color Calibration Device?

What's the best color calibration device for the Mac?

forgive me if i'm wrong, but i don't believe Apple displays are categorized as "wide gamut". i don't think the apple 20" is wide gamut. also, apple displays use CMYK as a unit of measurement, not RGB, so its a bit confusing trying to calculate the percentage of that color space the monitor covers. i believe that Apple's 30 incher covers like 95% of the CMYK color space, and the 20" covers like 70%. also, i read that this on the internet not long ago,
+"when using a wide gamut monitor you must be in a color managed application or your colors are going to be too saturated. Color will be unreliable if you are using applications that are not color managed"+
if you don't know, applications like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc are color managed applications.

Do you mean screen grapper software  - or screen video capture software??
I have been searching for months for screen video capture software. It's perfectly legal if done sensibly.
You can view streaming video, from approved websites, but you can't record it, unless you can download from a Freeview Video Tuner, which in my case is not always possible.
Microsoft did have screen video capture software for Windows XP, but there's nothing that works for Windows 7.....
Even the Windows 7 Pro demo (limited) version does not work for me.
