Best sequence setting for use with images?

Hey all.
I'll be working on a project that will be dealing with mostly images. I have them in their original RAW format as well as jpgs. After messing around in Final Cut with the images, I've noticed that the Viewer will display the image crisp and clear and once displayed on the Canvas window, the image is slightly blurred and the quality is decreased slightly which I'm assuming is because of sequence setting? Basically I'm wondering what my settings should be to produce the highest quality images when displayed in a quicktime movie when I export it.
Examples of high quality images in a quicktime movie of what I'm looking for:

Any input would be appreciated.

a project that will be dealing with mostly images...
And what will the other stuff be, video? What format?
The viewer always presents the image as is. When you place it on the Timeline, it takes on the attributes of the Sequence setting.
Your images might be 4000x3000 pixels, but that's not a video standard. Blowing up any video to those pixel dimensions will make it look awful.

I have pdf files in European languages and want to be able to enter non-English characters in the "find" function. How does one install other character sets for use with Acrobat Pro XI?

Have you tried applying the update by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop Lightroom?  The update should be using the same licensing?  Did you perhaps customize the installation location?  Finally which operating system are you using?

What is the best POS system for use with Mac?  Using Quickbooks and paper invoices and inventory.  Would like to upgrade to POS system.

Ideally it is best to have seperate (discreet) EHD's for a PC and Mac due to their differences in HD formatting. However, this is not always feasable but there are alternative solutions availble. Among those are:
Creating and useing a Dropbox account that can be shared by PCs, Macs, IOS and Android devices. Dropbox allows for 2GB of free storage and additional storage is available for a small monthly fee.
Another possiblity is formating an EHD so that it may be shared by both a PC and Mac, this format is FAT 32. The downside of doing this is the size of the files written to the HD are limited to 4GB.

  • Best wireless router for use with Powerbook 15"

Not everyone uses the Apple Airport, and some who do have mixed feelings about the various models.
What is the best wireless router, from any manufacturer, for use with an AlBook? What has the least problems, most reliable, strongest signal, fewest drops, best range, etc in your experience.

    Joeski,
I'll have to get back to you on what card my wifes laptop is using. I think it's a 802.11a/g, but I will confirm. My Powerbook 1.67 has the built in wireless card and to be honest, I have never looked to see what it uses.
We have our D-Link router set up for WPA2.
Neither her or I have had any issues when we have had to connect anywhere to any other wireless network and when I come home, I can connect back to my router automatically since my network is set up on my Powerbook as my 1st network of choice in connecting.
As far as replacing the antenna, I really dont know. It's has 3 antennas on it and I get a great signal, so I never thought about replacing it.
Hope this information is helpful to you!

  • Best hard drive for use with Time Machine

    Hi,
Has anyone determined what the best external hard drive is for use with Time Machine? Is there a particular one that works exceptionally well with Time Machine, or is it much of a muchness?
I'm looking for a Firewire 400 & Firewire 800 drive that STAYS ON all the time, and doesn't automatically spin down or spin up like the rubbish WD My Book drives do.

I can't tell you if it is the "best" hard drive for you to use with TM, but I'm quite happy with the 500 GB Buffalo Technology DriveStation Combo TurboUSB I bought recently. It is quiet, quite inexpensive for the capacity (I paid about $120 for one on sale at Fry's), & completely compatible with OS X & TM.
Best of all for me, it automatically powers down when my iMac sleeps. It also spins down after a time if the Mac's Energy Saver preference "Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is checked; otherwise it remains spun up until the Mac is put to sleep or switched off.
It comes with "Turbo" USB & Memeo "AutoBackup" software, neither of which I installed. (The box didn't claim these extras came in a Mac version but both Mac & Windows versions were included on the CD.) Out-of-the-box, I reformatted the drive with the Apple Partition Map scheme & two partitions, a 160 GB one for cloning my internal drive & the rest for TM. The drive works perfectly for both uses & seems quite fast, as one would expect from a 7200 rpm SATA drive.

  • Best drum loops for use with Logic? Ease of use, usability, etc.

    Hi,
I have BFD2 but find it slow to load and sometimes clumsy auditioning loops within Logic. I love the Apple Loops library but I wondered if people are importing MIDI drum files for use with Logic. Do all drum files use the same MIDI mapping? If I drop a BFD2 loop into a Logic drum virtual instrument will it work? I bought a few packs from Groove Monkee but have yet to use them with Logic. I only use them within BFD2.
I'm basically looking for a seamless way to stay within Logic to improve my workflow. It's taken me days sometimes to get a drum track right by going back and forth with BFD2. Is there a concept I'm missing that would make it easier?

  • Best setting for using still images for 16:9 format

When using still images in FCP, what is the best setting to keep the images from stretching or warping when exported to be shown on a 16:9 format?

Put them in a 16:9 sequence (is there any other way?) If they are distorted upon import, you can change their distort settings under "Distort" in the Motion tab of the Viewer. 33.33 is a good number to start with.

  • Best eSata card for use with G-Tech G-Raid mini2?  weibetech no work

    Hi there,
I recently purchased a brand new G-Tech 640GB G-raid mini2. I specifically purchased the drive to take advantage of the esata port. I edit video and need the throughput speeds for HD footage. Currently, I'm using the Weibetech Express/34 esata adapter to run the drive but it's not working. The information I received from the very helpful people at Weibetech, was that Silicon Image who makes the chip that runs the card, are not updating the drivers to work with my operating system. 10.5. Both apple and SI are aware of this issue.
Question I have is what card will work with the computer and the drive? Has anyone had the same or similar issue? Maybe the G-Raid drive isn't the way to go. Anyone have a better suggestion for speed when cutting video on a MBP?
    Thanks

I wonder why the G-Speed Q (From G-Technology) which uses the same 936 chip is benchmarked at a much slower speed using there $300 RAID card. According to G-Tech "The G-SPEED Q write speeds are about 165MB/s, and the reads are about 215MB/s." with RAID 5.
    Hi,
    I have not tested the G-Speed Q.
I can tell you 936QS based enclosures tend to be very performance sensitive to the model of hard disk installed and the eSATA driver used. This is why performance results can be amazingly different when the 936QS is used with various drives and eSATA controllers.
Its not like a direct connect 4-bay enclosure where you see much less difference in hard disk performance when different 3.5" SATA hard disk models are used.
In my tests, the Hitachi 1TB provided some of the best 936QS performance I have recorded. In addition, FirmTek has optimized the SeriTek/2ME4-E driver version 6.0.0fc18 to enhance 936QS performance. This combination is able to maximize the performance available with the 936QS design.
I hope this information is helpful.

  • Recommendation Request: Best flatbed scanner for use with Mac and iPhoto?

I have a flatbed scanner that Mac doesn't recognize. It's 9 years old, does a great job, but only works with Windows. Period. Don't ask what model or anything, I've already done the research, it's hopeless. MOVING ON... I'm tired of BootCamping to Windows, running scans, and then rebooting and hunting down the files...
So, what flatbed scanner do you use, rank it on scale of 1-10, and how much did it cost?
This thread might be useful to many people... FLATBED scanners, only, please. Make another thread for sheetfed scanners if you like.

This site has some good info on many scanners: Scanner Reviews | Flatbed Scanner |.
I'd look for one with high optical resolution. It's akin to the zoom in digital cameras, optical vs digital. FWIW I use a Canon 8600F (now replace by the 8800F) which does slides, film strips as well a photos. What I like about it is that you can scan multiple photos and have each saved to it's own file. Other brands of scanners offer that as well I'm sure but it'sjust a feature to consider. My scanner also came with a bundled copy of Photoshop Elements for Mac. Not the latest version but worked very well. Its replacement also bundles PSE.

  • Best Digital Camera for use with iMovie 09

i'm purchasing an iMac next week and am looking for a digital camera, a major concern is video compatibility. I have found mostly just threads on problems, OKAY, so i know what NOT to get. But i would like to know what TO get. The camera i have found I like most is the Casio Exilim EX-S12bk, but it doesn't play well with iMovie due to the .AVI format it records to, the actual codec is motion jpeg i believe. I'm looking for something with optical zoom in recording mode, hi def video, and of course great photos. Very noobish to cameras so bells and whistles are not as important as usability. But i want to import straight to iMovie, i don't want to get freeware, no conversions, or anything. That's more work than i want to spend. Any help?

yeah, i've upped my dollar level to 380ish tops,
Sony, i've found that the only one i could really get would be the tx1 or wx1, but they don't come out till sept, and october, so too bad there, Or perhaps the Sony W290, that was an option, there was one thing i didn't like about it though, don't remember what it was, hmmm, otherwise i didn't see something i had to have
If i could wait, I think no doubt i would get the tx1 when it came out,
SOOO, I've settled on the Canon SD960, has all the features i believe i want. I was gonna go with the SD970, but the 960 is smaller and a tad cheaper. I was looking at the SD780 for some time, however, the picture quality came into ? as well as video quality. Haven't seen those complaints as far as video is concerned. Of course there are always gonna be naysayers. All the sample images i've seen look great, reviews seem to be good also. So for now, I think I'm going with the SD960.
Further, I was looking really close at the Lumix ZS3, as stated above, but it's too big for my liking, the whole Lumix line seems to be on the large size, compared to other compacts, especially the Sony cyber shot's which seem to be quite small in comparison with other brands. Overall though it seemed like a great camera.
Still not sure why i'm passing on the Sony W290......and am also VERY, tempted to wait altogether and get the WX1 or TX1, but i really don't want to wait, if i take great care of it, perhaps i can still return it after my trip !!! Walmart takes anything back if you say it *****.......

  • Best HTML generators for use with Framemaker

    Hi,
I'm currently evaluating the latest version of the technical communications suite, but I am now
concentrating on Framemaker with other ouput generators and would be interested to know
what other people's experiences are. I really like Framemaker and think that the quality
of the PDF is great. However, RoboHelp is unlikely to work for us, based on the poor
quality of the images that it produces in the html ouput.
What do other people use to produce html, Jhelp, wikis etc from Framemaker?
Someone mentioned a product from Omni systems which I will probably tryout.
I used Webworks Quadralay myself, but over 7 years ago so have no idea about the
    latest product.
I'd be particularly interested in responses from people taking screenshots with lots of
details in them as our images have to be quite clear in the final html output.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Karen

    Karen,
You don’t mention any version numbers and from my experience any decision depends on many parameters which are hard to discuss in a forum like this. I did not say "impossible".
I like to concentrate on your task to display screenshots with lots of detail.
You see, a pixel is a pixel. A screenshot is just a collection of pixels and some things are just one pixel wide, e.g. the stems of letters. Assuming you have a 1024 × 768 size screenshot. If you print that with a width of 7" on paper, this gives you 1024 / 7 = 146 pixels / inch, so even a simple laser printer with a resolution of 600 dpi has no problems.
But on screen it is totally different: You can achieve perfect display quality only if you display screen shots at the original resolution. A pixel is a pixel. You just can not display 1024 pixels in the space of 600 pixels without losing information.
You could try to rely on certain built-in downsampling algorithms but they differ between OSs and browsers.
    My advice is:
Solve the problem by avoiding it. Is it really necessary to show screenshots in HTML? If this is only help the user is likely to see the original screen anyway.
If you have to show them, do the downsampling in a separate process, don’t rely on automatic solution and try to stick to easy fractions like 4/5, 3/4 or 2/3 to avoid moiré effects in patterns.

  • Whats the best portable drive for use with iMovie?

I use iMovie on my macbook on my long commute to and from work. I have read that the best solution is to edit movies on an external drive and not the one on the mac.
What is the minimum drive speed (rpm) and minimum transfer (firewire 400 ? usb 2?) for this to work.
All the drives on the online apple store talk about transfering documents, photos and using them as backup devices and I am trying to be cautious about what I buy given a limited budget.
For example is the "Iomega 160GB Portable Hard Drive with Dual Interface" suitable ?
    All advice gratefully received, thanks

    I haven't seen that point.
I worked on my old iMac using just the hard drive for a while. Performance is not the issue, but space can be, which is why I moved to an external drive.
Drive performance is complicated. If you have enough memory, your internal drive will probably have better performance than an external drive. The SATA bus is a lot faster than the FireWire or USB buses.
On the other hand, if you are memory constrained and are using other i/o intensive applications at the same time, the external may perform better. You definitely want to avoid excessive swapping of your virtual memory while using iMovie or anything else. (and this is best handled by having sufficient RAM. I have 2GB.
In iMovie 08, once you have your video imported into an event, you can edit away, because iMovie is just writing pointers in the project file to the source files in the EVENT. Disk performance is more critical on import (front end) and sharing or rendering (back-end), but internal drives are more than up to this task.
Space is the issue. If you are shooting high definition footage, you can get event files of 20GB to 40GB+. That can eat up a laptop real quick.

  • What are the best storage devices for use with Time Machine?

My backup and storage requirements are minimal but still important to me.  What storage devices do my Apple using Compatriots find the best for data storage.  I do think that the Time Machine is a more than adequate program for my needs but would be happy to hear any other suggestions.  All input will be appreciated.

It's been moved and seconded. Any discussion? Yes:
Buy two external drives. Use one for Time Machine. Be sure this drive is at least twice the capacity of your computer's hard drive. Use the second drive as a bootable clone of your computer's hard drive. Should something happen you can immediately get the computer up and running from the clone until your restore from the Time Machine backup. This is what is called redundancy. Should either backup drive fail, there's another to take its place. Backup redundancy is very important. You can never have too many backups.
