Best set up for interface for garage band

I first off want to thank you for taking the time to read my post and to rant about how great you guys have been with previous questions i've had.
Hi i'm using a eurorack 802b and am not sure how to properly set this up. Should I be running the sound out of the headphone port on the computer into the mixer and then from the mixer back to the line in on the comuter?
Or should I just be using the line in on the computer to process the mic into the macbook?
Either way i'm concerned about what would be the best settings on the computer and mixer to make my vocals sound great. I keep my lows halfway up and my mids up high and my highs halfway up. I keep the gain on the mixer at +10 and then the mic volume halfway up. Now garageband has it's own mic volume.. what should I set that to? I'm not really getting the same results on my macbook I did with my pc, so i'm done trying different setups that haven't worked properly and have elected to ask you more experienced folks.

As far as setting levels, we're dealing with digital recording, so there are not as many rules as far as gain structure. Experiment with preamp gain, and how close you are to the microphone until you find the sound you want to capture, while being careful not to go into clipping. That's the beauty of digital - if you don't like how it turned out, just hit delete and start over. Most people would advise to not use much EQ during the initial recording. The intitial recording is your 'raw material' so it can be beneficial to have a very neutral sound, allowing more freedom to apply EQ and other effects during the mixing process. Force yourself to get the best performance you are capable of, without the benefit of hearing yourself with processing (EQ, reverb, etc). If you can summon a great performance without the help of those things, it will be even better once you apply them during your mixdown. These are just some general suggestions. Above all just have fun recording.

what products are availabe to connect an ipad 4 with electric guitar for use with garage band???

I know this will sound a bit snarky but the best source for information is an Internet search. Typing in "connect guitar to iPad" produced pages of products. This one looked interesting to me...

I don't recall if the iPad 4 has the new lightning connector or not. If it does you'll probably need a  30pin-to-lightening adapter.

  • Using Built-in Audio/Mbox for recording on Garage Band - Need Help!

So I just found out that Pro Tools is not yet compatible with Leopard, so I'm working in Garage Band. I want to use live guitars and mics, and I'm curious about the inputs.
Obviously for guitars all I have is 1/4" cables. If I get an 1/8" converter for it, and put it into the headphone jack on my computer, will Garage Band recognize it?
What other interfaces for 1/4" does anyone suggest? I CANNOT get Mbox to work at all. All I get is 'Error code 28773.' Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks everyone -
    Tim G.

  • Setting up macbook pro with garage band and a mixing desk. NEED HELP ASAP!!

Hi everybody i have an issue which has been an issue for some time now.
i have a Behringer XENYX1222fx mxing desk, and a new macbook pro with the software 10.6.2 i am also using Garage band 09. when using this i am trying to set up my bass guitar through the mixing desk and the DI box which connects through a usb to the mac.
i can not get a signal/level come through to the macbook on garage band. i am getting a signal through on the mixing desk but nothing at all on garage band.
can someone send me the instructions to set it up? is it in system preferences in the input and output i really dont know please can i have as many options as possible.
    Many thanks
    Scott

Scott, I can relate. It's happened to me too!
It's time to play signal chain detective.
First, are you sure you are getting output from your bass? Plug it into an amp and test. (Once I figured out that the battery in my bass had died. New battery: problem solved.)
Once you know you're getting a signal from the bass, then check to be sure the mixer is outputting the signal. Run the outputs from the mixer into an amp.
Once you know your bass and mixer are cooperating, then it is time to engage the interface.
Be sure the preferences for the input to recgonize the interface are set BOTH in GarageBand and the OS generally. The problem is that when you connect an interface, GarageBand will see it and ask if you want to use that or line in. Be sure the interface is selected. For the OS preferences, click on the Apple logo and go to system preferences.
Finally, you might ask a friend to bring over an Apple laptop to eliminate the possibility of something wrong with your MBP, or lug your gear to his or her house, and try it. (Just remember to leave with all the settings restored to how you found them.)
If you live within reach of an Apple store, you can go to the genius bar.
And if nothing works, you can pay for a call to Apple support, or perhaps the support line for the maker of your audio interface.
Good luck. I know it can be frustrating when you want to make music ad you are spending a lot of time horsing around with the technology.

  • What are the best settings to send recordings from garage band to iTunes?

I am recording voice only in garage band. When I send it to itunes to convert to an MP3, I need to know what the best settings are to avoid distortion and background noise.

I think there should be no noises or whatsoever added to what you recorded when it is extracted, but in matters of quality you can export it to your desktop in CD quality, in a format iTunes reads, once in iTunes you can convert to Apple Lossles, or WAV, which are the best for quality, depends what you want to do with it... Apple Losless is small in file size and sounds really great, but works only on apple products, WAV can be played almost anywhere, and sounds just like Apple Losless but it's a very big file size,,, hope this helps

  • How can Roland BK-7M interface with Garage Band?

My MacBook Pro recognizes that there is a midi device connected to it, but in can't sort out what the decice is or receive a signal.  I've tried to upgrade the driver on the Roland but that doesn't seem to be happening either.  What settings do I need to adjust in order to get these two units to communicate with one another?  I need your wisdom.  Many thanks.

  • Corrupted Search For Samples and Hidden Garage Band Samples

in logic if you go to garage band instruments, strings and select basses staccato, it searches for the wrong samples for the instrument. how do i clear what ever searches for exs and garage band samples in logc? also those physical samples used in those garage band instruments are named for example
KBstac_downbow_fA#1.wav if you search your hard drive it will not find those samples. where do they reside? are they hidden and why?
so its a 2 part question. how do i reset searching for samples. i ran onyx on spotlight but i don't think logic uses spotlight to search for samples.
    thanks

ok i found out that you have to modify search function to find those garage band samples. the problem i'm having still is there are some garage band instruments that are referencing wrong samples. how do i reset search function

  • Need help with Garage Band 11 and my TASCAM interface recording Real Instrument

I am using a TASCAM US-122 interface with garage band 11 on a mac at 32 bit running osx 10.6.6.  Garage Band preferences / audio input and output set to TASCAM (which means it recognizes it) , but when using Real Instrument for the TASCAM and the track is armed , etc... the record function works when started except "no sound" from the device I am running thru TASCAM is being detected.
I am getting sound out of the TASCAM and simply running an AKAI mpc beat as a test.  I am sure there is something simple I have yet to do but not sure what it is in Garage Band.
Can you help ?   Thanks. GARY

with the real instrument track selected...
make sure the info pane is showing on the right (click the little "i" on the bottom right to open it; "Real Instrument" should be highlighted in blue on top).
On the bottom of the info pane it says "Input Source" and "Monitor."
Make sure the Input Source is set to the Tascam channel you're using (the channel, mono or stereo, that you've plugged your MPC into).
And if you want to hear it as you record, make sure the Monitor is set to ON.

  • Do I need an audio interface between my roland keyboard, garage band/MAC and Alesis 8.0multitrack mixer, or should I go direct into the USB of the Alesis with my keyboard into the mixer?

Do I need an audio interface between my roland keyboard and alesis 8.0 multitrack mixer when interfacing with Garage Band? Or can I just go direct USB MAC into the Alesis Mixer with keyboard directly into the Mixer? ie, is the interface overkill?

First of all the Alesis 8.0 is a usb audio interface so you already have a interface. Next you could go from the Roland into the Alesis into the Mac. You could also go from the Roland headphone or line out into the Mac Pro audio input. And depending on what Roland keyboard you have, you may be able to use Midi (usb) and use the Macs Midi voices.
