Best settings for best movie export?

I would like to export my Keynote presentations as QT movies, full size, best quality. But when I do the transitions are very choppy.
Any suggestions on exporting so that the transitions are smooth and it looks more professional?

I've done quite a bit of work with Keynote, and use it in conjunction with iMovie and iDVD. I assume you would want widescreen? HD720p is the format that gives the best result. Set your document size to reflect this, at 1280x720 pixels. Export to QuickTime at 'Full Quality, Large'. Make sure you have set you export for PAL or NTSC depending on need, and make sure the info in the settings panel reflect your choice. If they don't, choose 'Custom Settings'. Make sure you use 'Apple Intermediate Codec' and change the frame rate to suit, 25 for PAL and 29.7 for NTSC. I've found this gives me exceptional quality, but they will look and play better in iMovie than the QuickTime player for some reason.

ON a Mac or a PC?
WMV for the PC but learning how to embed is a function of learning how to use Ppoerpoint, not FCP's tools.
H.264? Dunno, what does the manual for PP say about compatible movie filetypes?
If you are handing these movies off to an experience PP producer, they will be able to give precise specs. If your'e doing this yourself, give yourself some extra time to work out the screwups. We have two wiseguys who insist on doing their own PP instead of letting our PP wonks do the jobs. They have never been able to figure out how to embed or link to movies and they do not understand why we tell them to have the movines in the same folder as the PP files.

Use the largest file, pixel wise, that you can. The books are printed at 300 dpi so the largest size the better to insure you'll get as close to that dpi for the largest page picture possible.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Best settings for iPhoto Slideshow Export

My aim is to export an iPhoto slideshow (iPhoto ‘11 v9.3.1) and import into the FCP7 sequence with the best possible quality.
Original video source - Sony camcorder - DV PAL (16.9 anamorphic) imported into FCP7 with a sequence preset of DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (720 x 576)
Stills for slideshow - 3648 x 2736 Jpeg
I realise I will lose significant quality to fit the restraints of the DV sequence and so after some tests the best result was through a custom export from iPhoto
Compression - H.264
Frame rate changed to 25
Keyframes & data rate - Automatic
Quality - Best
Encoding - Best Quality (multi-pass)
Size - 768 x 576 SD
A few thoughts -
Are there other settings for better results?
The resulting QT movie had a slightly inferior quality inside Final Cut than when played outside with Quicktime Player
Any movement over the stills created a strobing/flickering effect inside Final Cut - I have never been able to sort this problem out and now no longer set keyframes to move over stills.
I have tried a third party software (Industrial Revolution CoverFlux2) with no great improvement re flickering problem and general quality
The sequence is 16.9 but any attempt to export the slideshow to fit (eg 720 x 576 16.9) stretches the images.

You're already in FCP7 so why go to iPhoto and then back to FCP? That just adds layers of encoding which will reduce the final image quality. As TD pointed out keep it in FCP

What are the best settings for Quicktime movies on the web?

I've created a movie and exported it from IMovie. One version is 7.3 megs, and loads fairly quickly when I have it on a web page. I used broadband medium settings from IMovie to create it. I also created a file that is 19.3 megs using broadband high settings from IMovie. That file is way too big to load in a reasonable amount of time. Thing is, I can't stretch the 7.3 meg version (or don't know how) to make it any bigger. Is there a way I can make it bigger in the web page? Maybe that's a Dreamweaver question. Thanks.

You would need to add a few lines of code to your Web page and that depends on which html "style" you've used.
For the "object/embed" style code you would change your dimensions from those found in the source file to those you want to use in your page. Then add scale="tofit" in the embed tag code and param name="scale" value="tofit" in the object tag.
Don't forget to add 16 pixels to the height to show the movie controller (if used).

Best settings for h.264 export in HD

Hello, i have been reading a lot about h.264 in these forums and on the internet and im a bit stumped on how i should export my video. i shot it in 1080p 29.97 on a canon sx10 is. the file imports fine and exports no problems, but the ending quality is pretty bad. BTW im using FCE 4. first, the video in FCE looks great. i know it converts it to AIC and that part is high quality and fine. if i export it to a self contained movie, it crops it but it is still pretty high quality. my problem is i want to store the file and wont edit it again so i dont want a huge AIC file. i want the resultant file to be mp4 with h.264 and AAC audio. i dont care too much what the filesize is for the mp4 but no matter what i do i cant seem to get as good quality as the AIC, no matter the bit rate, or any other settings i change. can someone point me in the right direction as to what the highest quality output for h.264 would look like in FCE 4? thank you!

Here are some basics....
FMLE creates RTMP protocol streams that PCs and Macs watch with Flash players. iOS devices don't understand RTMP (Flash), only HLS delivery of 10 second chuncks of downloaded video playback. Both systems understand H.264 video, but iOS wants to see AAC audio not MP3.
You didn't state how you are live streaming, meaning what bandwidth delivery service you are using. Live streaming only via RTMP won't get you to successful iPad and iPhone HTTP Live Stream. On-demand delivery to iOS devices normally requires .mp4 video files to be hosted, which Macs and PCs also understand via RTMP delivery. But unless your delivery service can convert .f4v or .flv files to .mp4 on the fly there is no easy way to to get to iOS via the direct file output of FMLE as of today. Sometimes we upload live encoded project files to our www.Wistia.com account for PC, Mac and iOS delivery. This is a YouTube / Vimeo paid type hosting service for on-demand only.
Some commercial CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) today allow an inbound live RTMP into their system using FMLE. Then they re-mux that RTMP stream into HLS delivery for iOS. Some work well using the native MP3 audio codec (Internap), but most require FMLE to have the AAC audio codec installed from Main Concept for $200. Or people use Wirecast from Telestream which is $500 per license to be able to run two instances on that one license.
In my 15 years of being a big commercial webcaster here in Silcion Valley, I have yet to find the perfect simple and easy and affordable RTMP to HLS live and on-demand delivery system. We currently do it different ways with multiple providers depending on the job. More offerings are coming out now and we try them all as they come down the pike.

What are the best settings for inporting and exporting PE 12?   I use a Canon HDV VIXIA HV40 - HDV 1080i . Viewing the videos on this Canon are in HD quality but no HD quality wiyh Adobe PE12.[I have WINDOWS 8.1]

I have tried all the different settings, but my videos do not have HD quality, why?
P.S. - Videos turn out better (but not HD quality) with PE 12 when I do not use RENDER .
When I watch the video on my camera they have HD quality.

To capture HDV video, you should connect the camcorder to your computer via FireWire cable and then use Premiere Elements' Add Media/From Flip or Cameras to get the video from the camcorder to your computer.
If you've done this, the video should load into the program at full hi-def quality and your should have a smooth editing experience.

Best Settings for Exporting DVD Footage in a Movie File

I've been trying to find the best settings for exporting DVD footage into a movie file from Adobe Premiere CS6.
I recently have been using my Magnavox DVD recorder for recording VHS tapes that I made long ago for shows and various other things, and no matter what, my footage doesn't come out as it needs to be.

I'm not expecting HD footage, I know these are tapes, but I'm playing the raw footage on my Xbox 360, and it looks better than this. I had to directly use the VOB files on the DVD for this, as trying to rip the files into an AVI or any other format with a DVD ripper didn't do anything, in fact it degraded the quality and made the audio not play in Premiere.
So what would be some good settings for exporting a sequence with DVD footage that is from a VHS into a movie file, preferably one that wouldn't degrade the quality?

First, read Why not edit mpeg http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/edit.html to get a general idea of why a VOB makes a very poor source file (which is a renamed MPG, with some other stuff like menu screens)

Once you have a DVD compliant VOB on your timeline, and understanding that a standalone DVD recorder sometimes plays fast-n-loose with "compliance" per the DVD specification, about all you can do is export to standard or widescreen DV AVI and accept the fact that re-encoding an already compressed file is just not going to give great results

As the title says, which are the best settings for exporting comps from AE to Pr.Pro and then edit them?
Let me explain: I have two comps in AE (intro and outro) and want to export them in Pr.Pro for edditing along with a fottage i shot.
When i render them the size of the files are huge (30 sec= 7GB).
Which is the best method (and settings) i can export the intro and outro to a 'normal' file size and then put them in Pr.Pro without loosing any quality??

If you're rendering and exporting an intermediate video file to go from After Effects to any other piece of post-production software (such as Premiere Pro), you want to make sure that you're not losing any quality.
Most compression methods, which make movies smaller, also lose some of the image data---i.e., quality. There are a few compression methods that don't lose any image data; these are "lossless" codecs. These lossless codecs do decrease the size of a video file, but they're nowhere near as effective at decreasing size as the lossy codecs are. But file size isn't important when you're doing post-production work. Big files are a fact of life in post-production.
Examples of lossless codecs include the PNG codec and the Animation codec at the highest quality settings, both of which can be used in a QuickTime (.mov) container. I prefer the PNG codec; it's more efficient for photorealistic images, whereas Animation is more efficient for things like cartoons. There are lots of other lossless and nearly lossless codecs. A lot of people that do video editing like the Lagarith codec, but that is something that you'd have to go and get; it's not part of a standard CS5 or QuickTime installation.

By the way, keep in mind that you don't always need to render and export an intermediate movie to go from After Effects to Premiere Pro. There are other ways to move data back and forth between these applications, including Dynamic Link. Which is best depends on the specific circumstance. What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Mac?
Export your Timeline content to a .mp4 file, using export settings which have been customized under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the export's preset.
See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and .mp4 category. The exported file is then uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
If you post the properties of your source video and project settings, I will suggest the settings for the Timeline content export to file saved to the computer
hard drive for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site.

Need advise on best settings for FCP 7!

I am looking for some advice on the best settings for FCP 7 when I am syncing sound using pluraleyes, exporting into quicktime as one file and then importing that new file into FCP 7 for editing. I have noticed that sometimes my Quicktime files are very large (20 gb) and sometimes they are much smaller (130 MB), but I never changed the settings.
I am working on FCP 7 and shot using my Panasonic GH3 at 24 fps (which comes to 23.98). My frame size is 1920x1080. Compressor is H.264. Data rate: 8.6 MB/sec. Audio rate: 48.0 KHz. I have heard that FCP 7 does not properly deal with H.264. So, I am wondering, what should my settings be? Should I set to "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48 kHz"? Is there anything I need to know when I export to Quicktime 7 Pro in order to not reduce the quality of the video? Should I be changing my video files first before I even start to work on them?
I haven't edited in almost ten years so I am desperate need of some guidance!

Thanks for your help. So, I already synced all of my interviews in FCP 7 (using pluraleyes) before I changed the video to ProRess 422. Can I just go into FCP (in the same project) and compress the video footage, import the new video files and throw it into the timeline? Or will this cause issues? I tried this as a test and it seems to be okay but I just want to check that there aren't any issues that I am not considering.
Also, when I do compress, it seems to take forever (sometimes two hours). Is there any way to make this move along faster?

Best Settings for Audigy 2 ZS Recording Out to S-VHS or DVD Recor

I?m recording some very machine intensi've video & sound to outboard devices. I'm using these outboard devices so that the recording process itself does not impact the demonstration performance.
Concerning the sound out, I?m using the line & 2 out of the card, and running it through a pro level audio board (Mackie) for any adjustments & monitoring before taking the line out of the board into the recording device. When returning the sound for monitoring, I?m also running from the external device directly to the board and directly from there to either headphones or control room monitors. Thus, I?m using the Audigy for initial sound generation. So far, I've not really made any ajustments at the board other than level or balance. I like to keep things pretty flat in recording.
I?ve looked around for recommendations as to the best settings for the Audigy card from its internal software for this situation, but find no ready reference. My concern is that I have the ?hottest? signal from this device, while being very concerned with audio quality. I?m looking for both ?punch? and ?clarity? of signal.
Is there a document or source that would give me this direction? While I can move from this SB card to other more studio based cards, I?d like to keep the demo product in line with what the actual target audience would have in their machines, and be able to replicate at their workstation.
For example, does the card function best at 00% (0db) output, or 50% (-5db) output?
Or some setting in between...most likely...
Or, is there some other setting I?m not aware of?
I have what I believe are the latest card drivers and software suite, XP Pro, with every possible OS and other machine hardware update available.

Best settings for Sharp Aquos 32" LCD

Hi all,
I have a MBP 1.83 and just hooked it up to my Sharp 32" LCD and I am underwhelmed by the outcome. I am switching back to mac after 15 years and have been using a windows machine attached to this display with better results. Is there a way to tweak the settings to get better results?
Also, what do you recommend for creating a new using user for using each profile? I would like to have all of my files available for both users, just the settings separate (dock size, font size, etc.).

What is the native resolution of the Sharp Display? For optimal quality you should set your mac to output at the Native resolution of the Sharp LCD (this is true of any LCD). See System Preferences> Display Preferences to change screen resolution. Also make sure your sharp's built in screen settings (not the ones you adjust from the Macs display preferences) are set properly. For example, through the remote you can choose settings for "PC", "Movie", "TV", etc. I usually find that the Sharps "PC" default settings are very bad... too much contrast, bad color reproduction. so I have to manually tweak them (also done through the remote). Best of luck. I am confident you can get an excellent image out of your Sharp.
Regarding creating multiple user accounts, I highly recommend you start a separate post on that topic since it is so unrelated to your sharp lcd issue. I am confident you will get lots of responses to a post about that. Try to provide as much detail as you can about what you want, and why you think you need multiple user accounts (for example, "I want to share music, but I don't want my kids mucking about with my files" )... and you might want to consider posting that thread in the OS X topic area (here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=752)
But for the record, I really try to avoid setting up multiple user accounts if possible because it is a pain to share iTunes music and movies (though its possible). I think the only reason to set up multiple users is when you have kids and you want to prevent them from messing up your own settings and files. If it is two adults sharing the same computer, I think it is best to just compromise on how you configure the doc, and to agree to save files in different folders inside documents. work arounds for email can also be done from one acount. best of luck

Best settings for 4k video in Premiere Pro CS6

I am trying to nail this down. I have an (Asus G20AJ Series) ASUS i7 3.6 Ghz with 16GB RAM 64 bit. I now have a drone that uses 4k video. I am pretty sure I have the rendering down but I wanted to ask if you guys can suggest options for all the best settings for setup, playback and export of the video. My drone does video of 4096x2160 @23 fps. When I went to render the 6 minute file, wow, it was going to take more than 4 hours! Is this right? Any info you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!

4 hours sounds about right for this source material on such a system. Better hardware may be needed to reduce the exporting time or you have to convert the source material to a less demanding format.
