Best settings for ipod video playback on TV

I would like to know which video format is the best for a very good video playback on TV using ipod video ? And which settings choose for the video to have the best possible quality on TV, while still being able to store a lot of videos on the ipod.
I use a 1.67ghz powerbook, and the convertion process is so long, is it normal for it to be that long. I thought that powerbook were suppose to be really fast. Would buying more ram help ?
thank you

If you're using QuickTime Pro's "Movie to iPod", then you're getting very good video quality. The reason why this takes so long is that instead of just compressing the video, it first examines the entire video looking for places that may be a little more difficult to encode (cross fades, cuts, high motion) then spending more time on them in the second pass. So, yeah, it's normal to take that long, but, in this case, that's how you get the best output.
Depending on your source (if it's from a VHS tape or something like that) you might want to download MPEG Streamclip and try H.263 or H.264 with only one pass. It's a bit faster and the results still look pretty good so that may suit you as well.

thats way too vague of a question... best what?  quality? size? playback?
best quality then use high bitrate, small size use low bitrate.

  • Best export settings for HD video playback on computer?

I have shot my video on 1080p witha DSLR and edited it in premiere pro. I exported the video in .mp4 format.
Now i imported the video in after effects and added loads of animation. I want to export it to the best quality for playback ON COMPUTER ONLY. Which is the best export settings for this purpose.
I rendered it in .avi and my 12 minute video had a size of 55GB after render and did not play smoothly in the computer.. PLEASE HELP WITH THE BEST SETTINGS for the above purpose.

You messed up. You should NOT have rendered MP4 out of Premiere to use in AE. You're adding compression and quality loss in between stages. BAD video person!
The easiest thing to do would be to import your Premiere project in AE. That way it can use the original footage too. If, for some reason, you can't do that, you should render a lossless file out of Premiere. Speaking of lossless files, that's what you rendered out of AE. This page explains your large AE file issue.
Anyway, take that large file you render out of AE into the Adobe Media Encoder and render out your final compressed file. Either H.264 or WMV should work well for playback.

  • Best settings for 4k video in Premiere Pro CS6

I am trying to nail this down. I have an (Asus G20AJ Series) ASUS i7 3.6 Ghz with 16GB RAM 64 bit. I now have a drone that uses 4k video. I am pretty sure I have the rendering down but I wanted to ask if you guys can suggest options for all the best settings for setup, playback and export of the video. My drone does video of 4096x2160 @23 fps. When I went to render the 6 minute file, wow, it was going to take more than 4 hours! Is this right? Any info you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

4 hours sounds about right for this source material on such a system. Better hardware may be needed to reduce the exporting time or you have to convert the source material to a less demanding format.

  • [E71 on Linux] Best settings for encoding video?

    Hello all,
I have an E71 and I would like to encode videos on my Linux box for it.
I have a script for that, using MPlayer's MEncode. I'd like to know what are the best settings, i.e.: Resolution, Video Bit rate, Audio Bit rate and Codec / file format.
Also, what is the best video player out there for the Symbian 9.1 3rd., preferably a freeware app...
I have DivX Mobile installed and the built-in Real Player (very poor quality playback - maybe because incorrect encoding?)
    Thanks!

Enough of the data you need is most likely on these two pages:

  • Best Practices for smooth video playback

I'm using a low res. video as a reference movie in a 5.1 project. 23.98 fps, H.264. Video playback is very choppy. In the video playback window the Resolution setting in the pulldown menu is greyed out. It's set to Full Res. How do I change this setting? Also any tips for achieveing smooth video playback?
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, but I can't help you with the video problem. The only time I tried this recently, I couldn't get the damn video to play in Audition at all, so I gave up; fortunately it didn't matter. The only thing I know is that the video engine it uses has been changed at some stage (probably CS5.5) - heaven only knows what the implications of this are.

  • Best settings for web video

I am going to encode some videos of a Dr.'s office I shot with a Canon xh-a1 in widescreen sd to the web. I am thinking 320x240 but do not know what the best type of file to use for the web.  Also I have noticed that there are black borders at the top and bottom when I chose a format even when I have it in 1.333 ratio. Any way around this?  Any file size, compression settings I should keep in mind? These videos will be a part of a website.  Thanks for any help.

As per Jim's comments, I'd start with the intended site to see what their specs were and use those as the starting point. If YouTube, then that would be what I'd go with. Vimeo, the same, and on down the list. Each one might do the best with different settings.
If you are going to the Web on your own site, then your Web designer will have the specs for what is preferred, both in format, and size to fit the design of the page. They can also tell you if you need to embed the material in a player.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Best settings for YouTube video?

I've just finished editing my first video in iMovie and would like to export it to upload to YouTube. The YouTube site asks for MPEG4 at 320x240 pixels, 30fps, with MP3 audio. But what about all the other settings in the advanced export settings? Does anyone know what they should be for best results?
    Thanks in advance.

    This, from Karsten Schlülter (YouTuber):
I recommend in the expert settings:
    mpeg4 as comprossor
    in the options:
    320x240 (youtube's "native" res)
30 fps (for fast action), 15 fps (to generate smaller files for longer movies)
the bitrate slider...- 500kB/sec is an excellent quality for such res (and generates laaarge files), but the conversion at youtube adds a lot of artfifacts...

  • Best settings for converting videos

I have been using Visual Hub to get my videos in the right format for my Apple TV.
When I try to copy these to my iPhone, it says they aren't compatible. What settings should I use to get these videos viewable on my iPhone and when using the new setting, will they still be viewable on my Apple TV and look good?
    Thanks.

I share your grief. I converted all my videos for the Apple TV and now have to re-covert them to the iPod format to get them to play on my iPhone. I am a massive Mac fan, but this has left me a bit po'd. Not to mention it's further bloating up my iTunes library, which has turned into a sloth since adding in all the media for my Apple TV. I'm now at 97+ gigs. The rest of my machine is fast (DUal 2.3 G5 tower with 2.5gb ram) but iTunes is a dog.

  • Export Settings for iPod iTouch

Does anyone know the best settings for exporting video directly from Premiere CS3 to play on my iTouch? Quality? Size 640 x 480? Frame rate 30 fps? Bitrate etc, etc?
I have exported a video to QuickTime but the file won't sync. I've looked on iTunes and I should have an option under Advanced to convert the file to play on my iTouch but for some weird reason, that option isn't there.
I could buy QuickTime Pro which I assume has a preset but it seems silly if I can do it without!

    Hey Jeff,
Thanks for that. You know Jeff, this whole de-interlace thing is like some mystic art to me.
Most times when I render a video, to Flash or MPEG for example, I don't bother. I think I'm right in saying (although I could easily be wrong!) that encoding to Flash does it along the way and most software MPEG players do likewise. QuickTime I'm not sure about.
So why, if you don't mind me asking, do you suggest 'using a high-quality deinterlacer' in this instance?
And is the VirtualDub Smart Deinterlacer 'high quality'?
I think I also remember that someone has recommended a Panasonic plug in for VirtualDub although I've never used it...
And one final question (since you appear to have raised more in my mind than you imagined!), why use the VirtualDub for resizing instead of Pr?

Best thing is to use the Adobe Media Encoder bundled with Flash CS4. Play with the settings until you get the optimum settings and the import the .flv to the stage. Then publish the movie "best".

Have a lot of music on my ipod that I have imported at low quality settings. Am going to take some time re-doing this so would like to know the best settings for the best quality sound. Have plenty of room and would prefer a richer sound rather than more quantity.
    Many thanks.
(I assume I would put the old track in the recycle bin and then import the new track.
